I go here once a month for my monthly frozen dim sum stock up! If you're looking for cheap dim sum, you might want to try grocery store frozen dim sum. At this store, you're looking around a dollar a piece- you get what you paid for. I would say their dim sum is on par with many dim sum restaurants! I've also heard rumours that they supply to some restaurants.

Great assortment of frozen dim sums, some are packaged with name and instructions to cook, some you should just know apparently! This is the place many friends swear by, even though it's in a plaza with many similar options, this one is the busiest. The parking is tough, narrow plaza and limited but you're quick running in. It's cash or debit only, buy over $100 and you get a big cold bag for your purchases and for their flashy advertising. Steamed some up for dinner and breakfast and so far happy with quality.

I have been craving dim sum for awhile, but felt like getting take-out defeats the purpose - no ones likes cold dim sum and re-steaming the dim sum felt like too much work, especially after paying prices that is more or less equivalent to dining in. I had Fu Kee Dim Sum bookmarked for a few years, but forgot about it until I recently saw some Instagram photos. Came here on a Saturday and got regular shrimp siu mai, beef siu mai, pork stuffed bean curd roll and charcoal lava custard buns. Shrimp siu mai is my favourite dish and is what I use to judge restuarants by. I really enjoy Fu Kee's siu mai. I like how it was bite size (just like the ones you get in Hong Kong), had a small piece or 2 of shrimp so you are not eating a pork meatball. A lot of dim sum restaurants don't serve beef siu mai in the GTA, so I surprise to see it here! The yellow wrapper looked a bit odd to me (I am used to see a white wrapper in Hong Kong), but obviously it didn't affect the flavour. For the bean curd roll, remember to steam it in a separate plate/bowl because they come with a bit of frozen sauce (jelly like) stuck to it. Their attention to detail made the dish taste restaurant quality! I got the custard bun because my boyfriend is a fan of it. However, I found that the bun to custard ratio was a bit high. I had approx 2 bites of the bun before I hit the custard part. Also, the custard was super runny, more sauce like than "lava". I'll definitely come back to try their other dishes, their wonton and Canton style dumplings look really good! I think I should get a refer bonus, as 1 friend and 1 colleague already went to get frozen dim sum after I showed them the pictures last week.

My wife is scoping out this dim sum wholesaler that also sells to the general public. The parking lot was busy and I volunteered to stay outside to guard the vehicle and social distance with myself. Anyhow, she came back after 15 minutes and said there was a great selection and the pricing was the same as a similar smaller dim sum store in the same industrial plaza (which I Yelped about). The most notable difference here are product labels which include how to prepare the food, plus an ingredients list! That's a good thing right? Most people would like to know that something isn't going to make them ill before ingesting. Staff were friendly and helpful in explaining things, if you had any questions. Cash is king but debit is accepted here. No to credit cards. We will be back again...and I'm going in next time! Other notables: Not rated Accessible. The parking lot is a zoo/very busy. So is the store as it seemed an excess of customers for the store size.

I saw a line outside waiting to get it and this is one of the bigger stores in the area, I guess a lot of people like them. I went there to get siu mai because they have a variety of siu mai that many places don't offer. I think their fish siu mai (街邊燒賣) is awful, tasted chalky. But other flavours were pretty decent, I have never seen some of the flavours in regular dim sum places, wonder where they ship it to. Other than dim sum their walnut buns were also quite good, a bit too sweet but it tasted good. My advice will be to avoid anything with seafood, you can taste the frozen food flavours from all their seafood, just don't get them. But everything else is good for the price.

Fu Kee Bao Dim is a Dim Sum place but it is not a restaurant. They only have frozen dim sum packages. I find there prices to be reasonable and the ingredients fresh. I also tried their dishes. I bough a dish with ribs and lotus roots. Note their dishes are frozen and raw. So we needed to cook the ribs and lotus roots separately. Other than that, the food tasted really good. Thanks

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Tea's a humble $1.50 a person, softening the blow of slightly higher food prices. So, what's so special about Tak Fu? Start with the siu mai or steamed pork dumpling ($7.99). Most places pulverize the pork into springy meatballs. Not here. The pork is hand-chopped, juicy, and tender, breaking apart easily with each bite. Finely diced mushrooms add a hit of umami, while a plump shrimp crowns the top instead of being hidden inside - simple, balanced, and traditional. Then there's the har gow or De fu steamed shrimp dumpling ($8.99). The shrimp are properly cleaned and not over-tenderized, keeping their natural flavour and crunch. They're cooked just right, encased in a slightly thick but satisfyingly elastic wrapper. The steamed bean curd roll with satay sauce ($7.99) is dense and hearty... half a roll will do. Its filling leans pork-and-cabbage heavy, more like a spring roll in taste, so it's not as exciting flavour-wise but still comforting. For a contrast, the steamed rice noodle roll with fried dough in special style ($7.99). The hot, crunchy fritter wrapped in silky rice noodle is spot-on texturally, though the hoisin and sesame sauces could be thicker. Maybe they're thinned out for easier pouring? The steamed rice noodle roll with BBQ pork ($7.99) is stuffed to the gills with big chunks of meat and nothing else. Pair any rice roll with the congee with preserved egg and pork ($8.99) and you've got a hearty solo meal. The pork's properly seasoned, the preserved egg plentiful, and the texture rich and smooth. For something lighter, go for the dried scallop & seafood dumpling in soup ($8.99). It takes time, but arrives piping hot with a massive dumpling stuffed with shrimp, octopus, scallop, mushrooms, and BBQ pork - generous and satisfying. The deep-fried squid ($9.99) might just be the best I've had: crisp, tender, and barely battered. There's also plenty of it to go around. Say what you will, Tak Fu doesn't skimp on portions. Even their fried rice noodle with beef ($13.99) impresses. Sliced beef, bean sprouts, and onions get a good kiss of wok hay, and those caramelized onion bits add a hit of flavour. A solid, classic version. If you can wait half an hour, end with the steamed milk ($7.99) for dessert. Lightly sweet, perfumed with ginger, it's a silky, nostalgic treat you won't find in many places anymore.

The restaurant was very accommodating with the size of our group. We were to be 17 but changed to 13 people at the last minute. Our reservation was for 5:00pm. They offered a large table to seat 10 and the table beside to seat up to 7. We decided to squeeze all 13 onto the table for ten. It was a tight squeeze but we would be able to see everyone. Our friends did the ordering for the meal. We had a ton of dishes coming out with several dishes coming at the same time and no space left on the lazy susan for all the food. We had to leave a few of the dishes on another vacant table behind our table until there was space for those dishes of food. We wanted to order the oysters but that was already sold out. We had a total of 17 dishes ordered and no leftovers (wow!) My favourite dishes of the evening: - [ ] Peking duck. The wraps were super soft and thin. The duck skin was crispy which I really enjoy. - [ ] Salt pepper fried calamari - [ ] Dry lobster - [ ] Lobster on E-Fu noodles - [ ] Stir fried spicy calamari with vegetables, in a crisp noodle basket, crunchy snap peas - [ ] Snow pea tips topped with bean curd sheets I gave the restaurant a 4* overall because of our dinner experience and service. Note: There is a bottle fee of $15 for every two bottles of wine. We actually wanted to attend for the crab dinner special but it is only offered Monday to Friday. The restaurant was very relaxed about letting our group stay to almost 9pm. Parking is available right outside of the entrance and around the side of the restaurant.

Just like today is going to be "review day" (shooting for 5, on the heels of the bunch I wrote last…read morenight), Saturday, Feb.22nd '20 was the unofficial "Parent nostalgia day" in Toronto, where, for lunch, we went to Very Fair - a place my wife's father used to frequent so much, they knew him by name - and for dinner we went to a place my parents favored when they were living. Very Fair is ostensibly a "seafood restaurant", as are many of the Chinese restaurants that want to appear respectable: fresh, swimming, seafood is highly favored by snobbish Chinese foodies, especially those hailing from Hong Kong. As such, this "hole-in-the-ground" restaurant (literally, since you have to go down to the basement) boasts tanks of live fish, lobsters, crabs... right in the dining area. There are a few private dining rooms, ideal for majong players, but the dining area is small for a "regular" Chinese restaurant - I'd guess the open area seats maybe 120. They have been around for a long, long time: Agnes' dad passed away in 2005, and back then Very Fair was considered an "old establishment"! And it feels old. Not sure if they've actually refurbished the place in the recent decade or longer, but if you have to guess... Well anyway. Our late lunch found a very empty place. We were going to go with dim sum and skedaddle, but their special of lobster with noodles caught our eye - who can resist a lobster dish for less than $15 USD? It came OK, definitely on the greasy side. While it didn't taste bad or anything, it may or may not have been swimming right up till the time it drew its last breath. But it was a whole lobster (or close to it - we did not try putting the chopped up pieces together, forensics-like), and I'd guess pound-and-a-quarter. We tried a few dim sum too. The har gau LOOKED very presentable, but upon sampling, we discovered it to be quite un-Trump-like (meaning, it was not thin-skinned). The tea was decent.
