I found this place because I was looking for the closest storage facility to my house. It turns out that they are the cheapest and friendliest storage place in San Mateo. Every time I call or go into the office to make a payment, they are really nice and helpful. The only reason it gets 4 stars is that there is no bathroom, which makes if inconvenient if you have to go. There is a bar/restaurant next door though. They also don't provide garbage cans, but I can understand that they don't want people to dump things and have to get rid of it for you. read more

I have been using Security Public Storage for six months and find it super easy and reasonably priced. The facility is clean and easy to go in and out of. My space is inside on the second floor and it feels as easy as being outside on the first floor (okay, maybe not quite that easy). But the elevators and dollies are always available and the hallways are nice and wide. I also like the security features where you have to key in to open the gate and turn off your unit's alarm. Once you key in for exiting, your unit's alarm is reset. Very secure. The parking is always available and the staff is courteous and professional. Definitely recommend if you live in San Mateo and need storage. read more

I have been a tenant with them for 2 yrs. Initially I was attracted to being able to get a free moving truck by mentioning the yelp ad. They have gone under new management in the middle of my stay but even with each management I have not had a bad experience. One experience was when one of the temporary personnel tipped me off. I believe he was just making rounds in the hall while I was in my storage & noticed it was half empty. He polked his head in & said "Would you like to down size & save money?" Well that was a no brainer! 2nd time I down sized, I came in to make my monthly payment. When I came in Desiree was there & she asked how I was & while looking up my account she simply asked "How's your weekend?" I told her going well, & Im pooped! Then I brought up how I just had a yard sale with 1/2 of the stuff in my unit. Then like a Lightbulb she said Really? If you like before you make a payment I can walk with you to your unit & see if you are eligible for a downsize. This place was recommended to my by a lifelong friend. When I called for availability and price I was greeted with prompt courteous attention. Marianne and John have to be some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I was moving and not knowing my next step in life they set me up with a great introduction price on my unit. They gave me exactly what I needed. Always took care me. I always felt my belongings were well protected and safe. They have alarms on each unit. And a truck to help you get your things there. When it came time to leave they were very accommodating and as nice as when I came. I would tell anyone wanting or needing a storage unit come here and you won't be disappointed !!! read more

I love Security Public Storage! I can't say enough about the friendly and very helpful staff. I also can't say enough about the clean, dry and easy access facility. I live on the San Mateo coast and for years used the storage places available over there and it was ultimately a waste of money as I had to throw most things away because of mildew. I have rented a storage unit from security Public Storage for about a year now. I am very pleased with their operations the staff for running the storage unit. The only complaint I have is I feel they are are a bit pricey but we live in the peninsula area and that's the prices in the peninsula. Contacted them base on Yelp reviews and my need to store some items long term. Spoke with Joan and she was very nice. Said she would email me some info. Sounds great. Asked her if I could come by and check out some of the units. She said yes. Went by that same day at 4:30, stood around for 15-20 minutes. Where is everybody?? No one was there...for 20 minutes! Ok, whatever. Went home to check my email, um, nothing came. Called again, Joan said she will re-send. Um, nothing came and yes, I checked my spam folder too. Gave her a week or so then called and spoke to Mike, he apologized, took my name and number and said he will find out what happened and will email me. Each time I provided my email address, the same one I've had for ages. And again, no call no email. I give up. How does it go? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... So shame on me for trying 3 times to rent a unit and give these folks money on a monthly basis for the next year or two. I think I may do better a public storage. Can't be worse than being ignored 3 times. Boo! Boo! read more

This place is very convenient for us and very secure as advertised. I found this out quite by accident when someone entered the storage facility in front of me. I thought I was saving time by not having to key in my code to open the gate. When I opened my storage unit, an alarm went off and the caretaker responded immediately. It was at that point that I realized that keying in your code before entering the facility actually clears your storage unit to be opened. Likewise, keying in your code prior to leaving re arms the alarm. The only complaint I have about this place is that they should have a dumpster available for renters' use. They charge enough to be able to provide that service. read more

- I went to my storage space on the weekend only to learn that the elevator to the entire half of the building was not working. Very frustrating. (They only have two elevators). They should have offered a discount to the customers to make up for the inconvenience. No, instead I received a note saying that they were hiking up the rent. - They often close on holidays. While I understand that some holidays are more important than others, and that employees need days off, I think for this industry of storage...having access to your things on these holiday weekends is very important. In other words, if you have a storage business, you should have a plan to give access to your existing customers, so they can access their belongings. read more

Travis and Steve are absolute champs. They put up with an extremely high maintenance client (me), and go out of their way to be accommodative. The place is kept spotless and I have never seen so much as a gum wrapper on the premises. Moving sucks...there is nothing you can do to change that fact. However, Travis and Steve at Security Public Storage have been a rare bright spot during our months of moving madness. Yeah I store my stuff here. I got the 5x10 unit 1/2 price for the first two months deal. I'm now getting into the third month and it's still cheaper than most of the other options in the area. The staff is friendly and attentive. Basically what you'd expect out of a quality storage facility. They even offered up their 6 year old kid to help me lift my couch...but I didn't end up needing his assistance :) I guess the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the carts are worse to maneuver than a full shopping cart at Safeway with 2 immobile front wheels. Also, they have motion sensor lights (which is good, go green, save power, save the environment, etc.) but the lights go out on me while I'm rummaging through my stuff inside my storage unit, and I have to go all the way down the long hallway to get them to turn back on. I store a flashlight now. read more
