Awful service from Vickie, just rude, callous and arrogant. They put a lien on my daughters unit despite her being a client for two years after she was unable to enter a new card to pay for the unit from Spain. She called, e-mailed and left messages with no response and then was told that she needs to hand over a $1300 chsiers check or her belongings would be auctioned off. This in tandem with them indiscriminately and without notice jacking up her monthly rent by over 70%. In addition her rent is now 50% more than what they are offering people for the same units. Awful experience. Will pay the fees and then move everything out. Stay away for this place as it's atrocious. read more

This place is filthy and has awful customer service. No employee is ever on-site. If you have question or request you can call a phone number for an off-site employee or to leave a message. We spent years, literally, trying to get a door handle repaired - it was not done despite repeated requests. Any time we visited we found a new layer of dirt and dust covering the contents. If you use this facility, inertia will keep you there for longer than you'd like. Save a step and go elsewhere. read more

Public Storage is a predatory company profiting upon misfortune. They claim to "help people", but "people" to them are their profiteers. PS customers instead are not even human but cash cows, and our storage contents are widgets to offer other parasitic opportunists via their side biz, PublicStorageAuctions.com. PS hires whatever sad soul they can find to "manage" facilities - someone in need of BOTH a place to live and work, maybe after being clean for a few months and working up the ranks of a Chick-Fil-A location. Their "managers" live just above the curb themselves and yet will *willfully imperil* what's left of someone else's earthly estate. I guess souls sell very cheap these days - but not MINE. In a world of victim culture, anyone with a real gripe who stands up for themselves are labeled an "a$$hole", are left ALONE and VOICELESS defending their own honor, and then predators like PS get us into their trap, play soul-less games with you under the guise of "customer service", and hold part of your world hostage. If you're facing tough circumstances - or even if you store for business - DO NOT STORE with PS. So what's MY gripe, why so personal? Though I've been living for decades with PTSD and Gulf War Syndrome - officially disabled but refusing to be sidelined - I've maintained a career in software engineering since the mid-90s and being at the top of my game brought me to Silicon Valley where the list of Fortune-list companies I've served grew to 9. The reason you see this is not for any shortage of American engineers - this is part of that "war on the middle class" you've heard about. What's more (or less), wages paid for my specialty have since 2008 gone DOWN EVERY YEAR to where today, nobody offers more than I earned in 1997, when I had only 1/5 the skills and less than 10% the experience. Ever wonder why tech has NO UNIONS? If we did, THIS couldn't happen. Are Americans expected to live in bunk beds, 10 to a bedroom, like the "imported talent" are doing in the Bay Area while driving down the "market rates" not for being better but ONLY CHEAPER? Whatever the case, my landlady never increased my rent, enabling me to stay in Foster City for 10 years, yet working all day, EVERY DAY, ruining what's left of my health. By the time of her death, rents MORE THAN DOUBLED here, leaving me few options other than to store the best of what I decided to keep. Moving into a PS space on the 20th of the month, do they begin bill cycles then? No - they adamantly insist on the 1st. Why? Late fees! They KNOW theirs is not the ONLY bill due on the 1st. And then after JUST 14 days, if you haven't paid yet, they slap A LIEN on your unit. Yep. That fast! Just getting you ready for their AUCTION side-biz! And those nagging "courtesy" calls on the 9th or 10th to "remind" you - do they REALLY think you'd forget that your earthly estate is being primed for auction in just 5 more weeks? No. Their legal team MANDATES this CYA ruse so they appear to be "helpful". How do I know? For one, they WON'T RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS but yet will *accidentally* call me anyway when going through their list! It's part of their game! They ALREADY KNOW I'm on a FIXED INCOME and **cannot pay until the 20th*. Once they determined I was "trapped" into their arrangements, on May 2018, I get notice that my rate would increase **25%**. That's not all - the late fee went up too, and when added to the new monthly rate, **the payment due is 50% MORE than the previous monthly rate**. Why so much? Was I identified as a juicy candidate for auction, given my payment schedule? They couldn't care less when informing them that their increase cuts deeply into my FOOD & FUEL budget and only assures them I am potentially captive to their whims. THIS IS PRICE GOUGING AT ITS BEST! When I asked their "manager" Chris to kindly revert my rate, given NO INCREASE TO THE COST OF SERVING ME, he only says he'll have his District Manager, Tim Teriwell(sp?) call me, which he never does. I've been trying to reach Tim myself FOR OVER SIX MONTHS AND HE HAS NEVER ANSWERED, which is why I finally wrote this review. Last time Chris gave me one of his obligatory nag-and-nanny calls, I demanded to know WHY they play games with their customers, WHY they have no conscience - WHY THEY CAN'T JUST HONOR MY SIMPLE REQUEST instead playing this "call Tim" game for 6 months? These guys are awful. They auctioned my unit by mistake and I wasn't even late. In the process of suing but nothing we can do to recover what we lost. We lost antiques passed through my family for sevaral generations, lots of keepsakes that belonged to my deceased parents and grandparents, many things that cannot be replaced incl. family photos. They sold away personal files and business records with financial information that can cause great damage to our lives and livelihood in the wrong hands. These people have no customer service except for when you move in and avoid you when they make a mistake. Always told to call an offsite manager who never answers or returns calls. Corporations have more rights than people do anymore and this is a company that thrives off of this. You can sue and do all you can in response to something damaging like this but you can never recover something like this and you lose time, energy and expense. The suffering it causes is not different from burglary or fire. There is no dollar amount you can put on the damage Public Storage did to my life, my business snd my famly. read more

Sometimes life gets busy; and things sneak up on you. Our move was one if those "things" I was able to rent a storage unit, and get a great price all in the same day. The storage area is clean and feels safe. The door to the unit could use a bit of grease as it's slightly hard to open/close. Chris was super helpful in getting me set up with my storage units, and in checking me out after I moved out. He made it fast, easy and pleasant. The units themselves were clean and easy to access. All in all a good storage experience. Why only 4 stars? My only gripe is with Public Storage and their sketchy marketing offers. There's a big sign out front that says $1 for the first month of storage. Woohoo! Great deal! ... actually BS! Chris had to inform me that the offer actually isn't available at this facility. We stored our stuff here for a month between moves. The property was well maintained, and the unit they gave us was clean. My email inquiry was responded to very quickly, and all the staff that we came in contact with we're knowledgable and professional. It's a very convenient location and we loved being able to drive right up to the unit. The only thing I didn't like was having to get out of my car to put in the security code. As everyone has said, Chris is awesome and very helpful as so was Jenny. This review is not against him or Jenny, although they are the reason why I am even gaving them 2 stars. This review is based on my overall experience and lack of information or misinformation that I received. This post is to give everyone the information that I did not receive when renting my unit. Based off the prior reviews, my experience looks to be out of the ordinary--Chris was out during my move in and I ended up speaking to 5 different people in my first month and the information I received were not consistent. Also note that two of the people I spoke to were on their way out of the organization and one was brand new. 1. Promotional move-in rates are not always $1. I received only 50% off my first locker. 2. Promotional move-in rates do not apply when you have an existing locker. This makes sense as people would be able to abuse this by switching lockers every month. This ruins it for all of us renters that are not out to get one over on Public Storage. In my situation, I originally went for a smaller unit as my decision was based off a conversation that I had with the person that signed me up. I asked if there were any downsides about upgrading/moving into a larger locker later on and I was told there was not any. 3. A $25 administration fee will any time you sign up for a new locker. When you first sign up for a locker you get charged $25. If you decide to move into a new locker, you get charged another $25. 4. A lock is required when moving in. When I first moved in, I brought a lock for my original unit only to find out that this unit only uses a proprietary cylinder lock. The lock was approximately $25. 5. When I upgraded to the larger unit, I did not have a lock and I was told that I am required to have a lock when signing up. I was under the impression that I could just move my lock over but found out that unit used a different type of lock--the kind I originally brought. To get the locker without having to go back home to get my lock, I was forced to purchase another $25 lock. 6. When moving out of my initial unit, I was told by another gentleman that I would receive a prorated rate back if I moved out by a certain date. During my move-in, I paid an additional prorated rate amount to get my payment date to match up to the beginning of month since when moved in in the middle of the month. After speaking to another employee when vacating the original locker, I was told that this was not the case. Over all horrible experience due to the misinformation. I ended up spending about $300 for my first month of storage--which is ridiculous. You could get an indoor, temperature controlled storage unit for this price elsewere. If I was told the right information in the first place, I would have been okay with this or have went with the larger locker in the first place. Side note: Prices come down from corporate and change frequently based on availability and location. If you are looking for a unit and research great price, jump on it as it may not be there next week. TIP: Check internet price for better pricing. read more

My unit also needed the door fixed, and he was able to provide me with all the answers, accomodate my needs, and provide me with updates until it got fixed. The service staff were nice enough, but I found the facilities to be in pretty bad shape. No video surveillance, and security was poor. (One unit they showed me had a door made of particle board; another had a thin metal sheet door, but even when locked I could have pulled it open with one strong pull.) But I had a problem with my access code, apparently due to some random computer glitch, and the manager, Chris, took care of the problem right away. EZ freeway access too. 4 stars only because of a few irritating company policies, such as requiring that you buy their insurance (which is not in the quoted price), and not fully pro-rating partial months when you're moving to another space in the same facility (iow, if you switch spaces on, say, the 10th of the month, then you get the new space pro-rated for 20-21 days, but no refund for the 20-21 days you didn't use the old space). You also don't get pro-rated for a partial month if you move out before the end of the month, but that's pretty common practice. read more

We use them to store our office equipment and have found them to be great. The storage areas are the true size unlike some other places we looked at which we're smaller. I had a very poor experience with Public Storage. I rented a 5x10 space for a year. About 2 months ago I found my storage unit was broken into, nearly $1500 worth of prperty taken, and a fire extinguisher sprayed over everything. Although the manager had found the mess outside of my unit 2 months prior, he did not call me so that I could check on things. Because the lock was picked, or a master key was use, and there were no outside signs of damage, the insurance company they have you pay for with the unit would not cover my loss. The security is poor, there is no lighting int he units, and once you are victimized, they will not cover your loss. Go somewhere else. read more
