Vicky (and Stephanie) were very helpful with quick communication when I lost my keys and gave procedure - which is you get a locksmith to come and drill the lock. Similar to other reviews I had a price increase communicated to me with about a month notice and that was within 4 months of starting... I went from 153 to 203 per month. All in all, ok overall. I am furious with Public Storage in San Carlos. They will increase the price on you after few months, for me it was 32% and after reading reviews I can see others have had it worse. I haven't even been with them a full year. This location is right next to a dump and smells like rotting trash every time you go there. There are rat traps everywhere and dust and dirt gets blown into my unit. They claimed the increase was due to market value, LOL. They will instantly ask you for a review right when you are done getting your move in done and that is how they rank up the good reviews elsewhere. STAY AWAY From this storage place. Their customer service is also horrible. When I called and asked for information as to why the rate increase they offered to transfer me to sales department. Do yourself a favor and please don't fall for their marketing tactics. read more

Awful don't go there.... My daughter rented space there for two years. They jacked up the rent from $360 to 530 without telling her over two years then tried to steal her unit when she lost a credit card and tried to replace it. I DO NOT recommend storing at this place. Customer service is horrible and rates doubled in price within one year . Went to move out on the 31st of July, rented a truck and had help of my buddy's arrive at 8:30am. Went to open my unit and someone had broken off a key in the lock so I could not open my unit . I waited until the office opened at 9:30 and spoke with the un-accommodating rep at the office . She told Me I had to hire a locksmith on my own dime to unlock and that I could not drill the lock myself that I owned and bought from public storage. I was a sitting duck for two hours with no help from them at all and at one point she started to ignore me as she typed on her computer . This service is unacceptable and will never give my business to another public storage again . DO NOT rent from this location . They seem great up front but in the end are horrible. read more

Today I attended the Publiic Storage Facility at 145 Shoreway Road San Carlos, CA 94070. At the reception, Vickie the employee met me. She had running nose and she did not wear the mask. I asked, why she does not take the mask. She responded, she will never do that during the pandemy and the mask is false. At the same time her nose was running and probably she had a corona virus. While she can do that at home, I believe it is improper for her to neglect safety standards for employees during pandemy. Apart from that, she was very rude and disrespectful. I insisted on mask and she responded me in a very rude way. I asked to cal her supervisor and she denied, she told that she is supervisor of herself. Finally I went out for the paper copy of car registration because I had electronic copy only. I attended another facility and finally changed my mind to run away from public storage with such disrespectful employees. read more

If it were not for the moving out experience and them raising the rate randomly this would have been a nice place in terms of initial price. Although in the summer it gets fairly unpleasant smelling due to the trash processing plant right next door. Also the gates that you use to get in break down often. Long story short, be careful if you get one of the units that has a shared space with another tenant. I was charged $200 for "Damages" to the unit because the tenant next to me had modified the electrical in the shared unit. When I tried to dispute this I had to contact their regional manager, Tim T (This guy did not answer my three phone calls and voicemail messages). It took me having to actually figure out who this guy's boss was (Helen) and giving her a phone call to let her know that my issue was not resolved in order to get any kind of response. When I finally got him to call me back after about 2 weeks he was extremely rude and inconsiderate. He said that the charge was final and that the tenant next to my unit had denied making electrical modifications to the unit (The tenant next to my unit was of course lying because he knew what he had done would have caused him to get the fine instead). My advice, take many pictures before and after you move out so you have ammunition against them if they try and pull something like this on you. read more

I was at the San Carlos Public Storage at 375 Shoreway Rd. San Carlos today, Margie was so helpful we had a Pod delivered and it needed to be picked up. I was running late, she let them in and allowed the driver to wait for me. Since I had already been there once today, she was a big help. Also we had a few questions regarding changes with our lockers, she handled our problems quickly and efficiently. So nice to work with someone so compendent and pleasant. read more

If I could give no stars, I would! My husband and I have had the worst service since we first rented a storage space with them. We have had nonstop issues, their customer service sucks like no other. We never get any kind of return call or assistance from them. They kept making the same mistakes over and over again, this is doing their damn job for them by contacting their regional manager to get things corrected. We are getting our stuff outta there ASAP and moving it elsewhere where we're valued as customers and with a company that actually responds to their clients. There is poop all over a table I was going to sell as well as on the floor. They even got into a whole box of non food items and pooped everywhere so I had to throw it out. Since my mother rented a unit they denied me the 1$ first month promo. They only allow one motorcycle per unit so in order to store three dirt bikes I need three units. So instead of signing another unit I'm taking my business elsewhere. Vickie treats customers as inferior people and like she has no time for them. Overall extremely unpleasant experience. I got along with the site manager very well. It didn't take me long to realize that even she was kept in the dark about rate increases. Within two years I had two rate increases. PS's motto is "such them in" with the dollar deal and then stick it to them in the rear. I agree with other customers about their rental costs. Once you're in, within a short time the rent increases often while newcomers get a much lower rate....for a while that is. Not a good place to go at night the lighting is very poor, it's cold and very dark once the sun goes down all year. It is advertised as being kept very clean. This is true, however once you open your unit, all the dirt and leaves are inside your storage, which made me realize the cleaner uses a blower and blows dirt and leaves under the roll up door into your space. You will need to clean before adding or removing property within approx. the first 3 ft or so. I've been a customer for many years however I'll be moving to a much cleaner and well kept place with comparable rents very shortly.. read more

I currently have a storage unit at this facility. The electronic gate has not worked properly for months, and at the time of this review, one gate does not work at all, and the other can only be opened from the keypad on the outside. The property is right next to the Recology transfer station, so the stench of rotting garbage is either annoying or just plain intolerable, depending on the direction of the wind. There are a lot of lights which do not work, so forget about going there after dark. The restroom facility consists of a porta-potty at the fence adjacent to the dump, and the company's customers and female employees must drive to the next nearest Public Storage facility to enjoy a restroom break with running water. A previous reviewer mentioned frequent price increases and an obsession on the part of Public Storage management with squeezing extra money out of the customers. I agree with both of these observations. I recently tried on two occasions to pay my bill, but found no one in the office. On the third attempt I found an employee in the office, but by then my account had been assessed a late fee of almost $60, and repeated contacts with the Public Storage customer relations were fruitless in resolving this matter. There are a lot of choices available to people who are needing to store things, and I would not recommend this facility, except as a last resort, and only for the minimum period of time. read more

We rented a unit to temporarily store our stuff while our house is undergoing remodeling. The site manager, Vickie, is extremely nice, patience and knowledgeable. She clearly explained the storage options, their rental conditions and cost, access time and the vacate process. When she heard that we are storing mattresses, she recommends us to use mattress cover. Our voicemails are also promptly replied. Excellent customer service.
