Avoid. Horrible. Run by liars and cheats. No electricity to the light bulb. They said that the bulb must be burned out and they would replace it, but once I move in I discover that there is actually no electricity running to the single lighting fixture in the storage unit. The only "security" is a single camera at the entrance recording who comes in and who goes out. This does nothing to stop someone who comes in, cuts off your lock, empties out your storage unit, and then leaves with all your things. Units that are advertised and rented as 10' x 20' are actually 9.5' x 17.5'. That's a pretty big discrepancy! Finally, the unit that I rented was filled with dirt all over the floor. It's obvious they care NOTHING about their customers. You can do better. read more

Be forewarned! They will give you a great price and then three months later once all your stuff is in their storage unit they'll raise it by a lot. I signed up for $1 for the first month and $224 per month after that. Exactly three months later they raised it to $270. That's a 20% increase. Ps. I almost never post negative reviews. read more

I had $30k of collectibles in a big expensive safe. On June 15th @ 8:11 AM, someone just casually walked out with my safe and my laser printer and drove it to Oakland. The lock was secured when I got there. Either they came in through a side wall or they had a key. I know where it is because I'm currently tracking it as I write this review. This place incredibly doesn't have cameras inside the building, only outside. Leasing manager wouldn't pick up the phone for 8 hours, and when I finally caught him in person, he said he was just heading out to lunch (at 2:15pm) and left nervously saying I should to talk to the insurance company. I'd give negative stars if possible! After reading my review, look at all the others that say they've had their unit broken into and cleared out over night and never got justice. People on Next Door app are also talking horribly about this location. They take no accountability for the fact that they so obviously have a huge problem and it's obvious it's an inside job! This place is by far the worst place you could ever pick to store your property and valuables. There has been 50+ unit break ins in the past 6 months and they do nothing about it. They have no cameras in the buildings and only one posted outside the entrance which youd think would catch people breaking in but somehow the footage is never accessed. There is a woman that works there who has a horrible temper and coincidentally she lives on site. The main reason storage units have people live on site is to report break ins after hours in real time yet all these break ins happen on her watch and she hasn't reported a single one. I and many other people believe she's behind the break ins. It would be very easy for her to let a crew in after hours where they'd have free range of the place and all she'd have to do was delete the footage from the camera outside the building. She threatened my mom and I after she had and attitude while we were in the rental office and my mom said something to her about her being rude. a few weeks later my unit is broken into.. my lock was smashed off and all my bins were rummaged through. they stole a bunch of collectible Jordan shoes and expensive clothes. I'm moving out and have been warning as many people as possible to not rent a unit there. when I reported the break in to the office they tried very hard to not do their job and take pictures of the unit or even report it through the proper channels. I reported it to the police and they said they'll meet me there to take finger prints in my unit. when I brought it up to the rental office workers, the employee in question imm got flustered and stepped out to make a phone call and was watching me through the office window until I left. please save yourself a headache and do not rent there. I don't know how she's even an employee at any workplace with how unprofessional, rude, and angry she is. I honestly hope they catch her. read more

I tried to get footage from the owners and surprise surprise they don't have cameras inside the indoor storages. its as if they don't want people to see the thieves breaking into units. DO NOT RENT PARKING SPOTS - I had an RV spot at this location for about 4 years. After years of property damage and logistic issues, I finally had enough. The last issue that pushed me over the edge was when they decided to squeeze 3 large RVs next to each other with 5 inches of clearance on each side. I was not able to access my RV for nearly a month and had to spend thousands renting an RV for a vacation I had planned. The area manager said that everything was ok because "everyone was parked inside their lines". I spent weeks trying to get them to move the RV next to mine so I could access the door to move it. The area manager decided to ignore my calls until the day of my trip, finally called me back and informed me I had 20 minutes to come and get it. I live 45 minutes away and was actively in a meeting when he made this demand- he then proceeded to blame me that I should have been ready at his beckon call. There's a thing called "planning" that he seemed allergic to. Other issues during my tenure here: - They didn't catch that someone moved in a tiny house next to our RV which they then proceeded to scratch and tear up the side of our RV when they had it towed. - Another neighbor couldn't navigate the tight space and broke our side mirror. - A random car in our spot when we came back from a trip and had to wait two weeks before we could finally park it again. read more

So far so good with this place. It's my first time using a public storage and this place is close to my parents house. I was able to reserve with such ease using my phone. The day before we were going to move stuff in I went to see where the storage space was and make sure everything worked. Sergio was at the front and told me exactly what to do. I was able to find my spot after a few minutes because that place is HUGE. I took the plastic off the knob but the door wouldn't opened and I realized I didn't have a lock and key either. I went back downstairs overwhelmed and Sergio came to my rescue. He got a lock and key but assured me that there's one in the storage once we opened it. He opened the door with ease which just proved I need to workout and there was my original lock and key to use. Sergio even swept my storage unit for me. I would have been a frantic mess without Sergio! I went back today to move stuff in and the person at the front was even very helpful and friendly. Our unit was broken into. Thousands of dollars stolen. No cameras. Just in the parking lot. Not even in the elevators or hallway. The insurance claims it was a "mystery disappearance" so of course they're not going to pay. When we send pictures and videos of the locking mechanism broken. Yet somehow it's a mystery how our things "disappeared" when we had called the police they were quick to let us know that this location has the worse reputation for break ins. I hate to say it... BUT my renting here for past 2-3 years (through COVID) - I'd have marked lower than 1 star. Initially we had a large (10x20) space- That started out good- but during the fall (moved in at summer time)- there were water leak issues: I should have taken more conscious effort to the warning I had been given by another tenant : beware of the flooding and ants. Stayed in that space - A building, for a short time- biggest complaints I have there were: Facility grounds were always littered with stray metal, wires, broken glass, pieces of wood and miscellaneous junk. There were always LARGE 20++ foot long trucks, which always park longwise across the parking spaces in front of A & B buildings. The front/outside of B Bldg is occupied by what one would call collectors of clothing/shoes or second hand items???. Because they always take many hours to unload trucks - they always leave trash (listed earlier) all over the entryway- plus they always are there for hours at a time - being rude by blocking spaces : especially the Handicapped spaces. We moved out of A bldg, about 1.5 years ago into B Bldg- 2nd floor into a smaller space: because of excessive moisture... and ants..... Then got into a 2nd large space in B Bldg on the first floor this past April 2022- because of a necessity to change housing - which lasted until The beginning of this Nov ('22). In both of these units- this spring & summer - things really got out of hand: I made several calls & reached out to the office, BUT as of today, I haven't been contacted. Suspicious things happened: My locks on at least 5 occasions were tampered with: the issues locks were moved from the spot we'd placed them. The locks were turned around on the gates. Things inside of our storage units were out of place, boxes were torn, missing and sloppy/rummaged through. And then I found a lock with a key broken inside the lock, discarded inside my storage. I then added different locks onto the storages May of '22. In July/august/sept (2022)- several tenants/customers were moving out and I overheard - as well as spoke to a few, who were so upset that their storage spaces had been broken into & things were stolen: they were adamant that it was done by staff as well as a group of burglars: the reason was they spoke to others that had stuff stolen ; locks were unlocked by keys (U-Haul locks) - which was a big reason for there being a huge turnover of staff at the property: as well as apparently a ring of organized burglars was at work in the area... maybe mostly COVID & poor/laced security measures . I found that my 2nd floor unit lock mechanism had been severely damaged, but both locks were on the gate. COVID was bad enough & especially the last few months of madness re: housing, health, surgeries, family & other significantly difficult issues had transpired: I just thought i was mentally so fatigued and wiped out that I was being extremely forgetful. It was bad that the grounds of the property were always completely overgrown (until sept '22)- There is always rotten/smelly/chemical odors in and around the B Bldg: not only from the street/sewer but the fact that there are so many Gardening/lawn businesses which, store all of their mechanical devices in the spaces: so it's always filled with nauseous odors - Between may -July '22 - I had 3 flat tires from screws & nails: plus other metal pieces in our tires. I have taken the last many weeks to try and get my head around what was taken - papers, valuables, electronics and documents. And more so- important papers and things that can't be replaced.. My biggest part of being upset, was that I haven't had any contact from the property management re: ALL these issues. I'd look at another facility until this one gets its act together: I even read some others reviews who also have had some of these same issues I'm mentioning- read more

This was a great storage unit for me for nearly 20 years. However, the rent kept getting higher and higher, until I was finally forced out. It is a shame that being a good tenant doesn't afford the same privileges as being a new renter, who will now have my space for nearly half what I was expected to pay. Unfortunately I lost my job and my wife did to so we have to move from the ever so expensive San Francisco area. I called public storage today to see if I could move out on June 2 and not be charged an entire month they told me absolutely not if your stuff is not out by the last day of May you will be charged a full month in June. A public storage where's your heart people are living in a pandemic and you are more concerned about your dollars then your customers I highly recommend that nobody uses this company to store their goods. If you need public storage in the San Mateo area do yourself a favor and do not stop at this place of business they are rude they are worthless and they are way too expensive to even consider. And to the lady that I spoke to today you are by far the worst customer service representation of a company I've ever talk to if I could give public storage zero stars I would actually give them -0 stars Public Storage needs to follow Xfinity's business model where they care about consumers and are willing to help in a time of need! For service this location easily gets 5 stars. I had a excellent experience downsizing to a smaller unit, Nicole at the front desk was incredibly helpful and made the process supremely easy. The facility is also very clean and well kept with regular inspection walk throughs. It's slightly more expensive than other storage locations but you really do get what you pay for. read more

This review is specifically for the Public Storage location on 2222 S Delaware St in San Mateo. I imagine other locations don't handle things the same way! I opened an account with them and they followed up to make sure I was going to make the appointment, which was nice. I got to see the space and was told to bring my own padlock, which was no issue. So when I went there to bring my stuff to storage I found a public storage padlock on the unit. Having driven multiple hours to get my things and knowing I'd have to bring them back again obviously did not make me happy... I left a message on their messaging system, but never heard back from them, even days later. When I went to speak to them in person, they offered to remove the padlock but didn't offer an apology or an explanation why they would not let me know that they would put a lock on my rented unit without informing me. I canceled then and there and I'm out the money it cost me for the month, but at least I don't have to talk to them again. read more

The service at this location leaves a lot to be desired. The lady who works st the front desk is nice and friendly....when she is there!!! In order to use q Dolley, you need to sign out the key from the desk. On the last 4 occassions that I came, the office was locked DURING BUSINESS HOURS! I could not use the cart. I would give 0 stars if I could. DO NOT RENT HERE. My storage was broken into and stolen from. The lock was completely ruined and I couldn't get into my storage unit. Nicole told me someone would have to come and cut the door open for me and that it would happen within an hour and they would call me when someone got there. Over an hour went by with no call and I finally called myself when it started getting late. Nicole made no apologies and didn't give me any information about when they would be coming. I obviously wanted to be there to see what was stolen from me. I had to go check myself the next day to find a new lock on the door. When I spoke to Nicole she started being rude to me once I requested a refund and told her I was going to file a claim with insurance. There have been multiple times when I went to the storage and the gate was wide open with people biking around inside. No staff in sight. Where my unit is there are no extra security measures for going in or any cameras inside that area. Very unsafe. The police officer I filed a report with even told me he would never have rented a unit there and I should get my things out immediately. I had a fee added to my account and talked to someone in the customer service office who said that only the manager could waive the fee. When I spoke to her (Her name was Alisha or something that sounds like it) she tried to deny this and I told her I would call the customer service number back and get to the bottom of it, she started speaking to me condescendingly and laughed then hung up on me. read more

We had a terrible experience with Carrie while attempting to move into the storage unit. We followed the contract instructions and showed up with ample time to move our storage items into the unit. After hiring movers and taking the time out of our schedule to move, Carrie refused to serve us. Even though the unit did not close for an additional hour, she left us full of moving trucks, unable to move into the unit. Would NOT recommend for anyone who is looking for a pleasant moving experience. Extremely poor customer service. read more

In one year they increased the price 3 times and now at $496 Unfortunately I need the drive up feature and there are no smaller units and the hassle to move everything to a new facility can happen at this time. Here is my experience judge for your self: Made a reservation for 30' space - they messed up and gave me a 20' space. Changed it to a 30' space (ok good) but they charged me for the 30' space and the 20' space. I asked for a refund ($350.00) they said no problem a check will be sent in 3 weeks (it is now three months later - no check but lots of reasons why). Place had ants marching all over the place I asked why? They said some people break the rules and store food and that is why. I said - why don't you do something about it? they said - what? I said that is your job not mine! But they managed to give me a nice smile when they shrugged their shoulders!!!! I wish that was all but when I was moving out they i gave them the customary 30 days notice. I was leaving on the 15th of the month and they said that I would have to pay a prorated rate for the 2 weeks - no problem. On the 10th they call me and say that I have to pay that very day or I will get "late" charge. I was out of town and arrived the next morning. They charged me an additional $55.00 late fee. I've been a public storage customer in some capacity for decades but for about a year I had a large space at this particular facility and recently worked my butt off trying to empty it out on time to avoid the next month's charge only to be 3 items short and hitting closing hour. The next day I thought, worst case, we'd pay for the extra day, after all, there are a lot of empty units here and I figured they want a repeat customer rather than blow a good paying one off but I guess not. I was told I have to pay the full 30 days despite being now completely empty for being one day late. How F**king unreasonable! Completely! I will never spend another penny nor suggest this business to a friend ever again. Stupid, such a stupid business move... morons. read more

I just moved our stuff out of a 5' x 10' unit that was charging $170 a month. It was as convenient as a storage area could be expected to be. I had to buy a plastic shelf unit (at Home Depot) to organize the space somewhat. Don't count on the one cart they have on site being available to help you move stuff, but sometimes it was. They just had a two-day power outage, so nobody could get in, but that didn't happen often. Their website's FAQ has only this to say about moving out: "Do I need to give you notice when I move out? No. Just remove your lock and let us know when you have vacated your unit so you do not incur unnecessary charges." But make sure to move out right at the end of the month or you won't be refunded any portion of your monthly payment. The person on duty said I could have given a 30-day notice and they would have put a "vacate date" on my bill, but I don't know if that means I wouldn't have paid any less. Bottom line, your stuff will be locked up tight (you have to provide your own lock) but remember you're paying for the whole month. read more

They get the job done and they aren't a pain in the ass to deal with. I don't have much love for storage spaces, they are sort of just there to store all the junk that doesn't fit in my trunk, but they do it right. The toilet is always very clean and spacious. For some reason I've had to make a toilet stop every time I go here, and I have very low expectations for storage space bathrooms. I was expecting something more like a gas station [there is only one person manning the area at all times]. i always wonder what people would do if my storage space got a spot on that reality tv show about people who auction off abandoned storage spaces. would the people think i was ghetto? would they make fun of me? would they appreciate my fine collection of art books celebrating the male nude? san francisco just doesn't dig male nudes, so maybe not. read more

DO NOT...DO NOT...DO NOT rent a space at this Public Storage! No one is ever in the office. Since the moving trolleys are inside the office, you will never have access to them. As a result, my movers had to carry each individual box, table, picture up to the 3rd floor. This tripled the amount of time needed for the move. I called the District Manager named Tim at least 12 times to provide some feedback and ask for one month free as restitution for this inconvenience. I did not hear back from him!!! Terrible customer service!!! I have since taken the time and expense to move my stuff to a wonderful and very secure storage facility called Bay Area Self Storage. Get a unit on ground floor. Avoiding elevator will save you a lot of time if you're moving a bunch of stuff. Bring your own big circular lock if you have one (I forgot mine.) Only problem: some guy fainted in the front elevator and the fire department had to bash the door in to get him out. Front elevator out made moving out hard. But Stephanie made sure the back door was accessible to my movers. Stephanie was really helpful from signing up through moving out. If you've got questions talk to her! She'll help you choose the right unit size and she moves through things fast. Unit was clean, building felt secure, prices were ok. (Prices are based on demand, so they'll flucuate.) The entry ways and stuff are showing some wear but who cares? Minus a star for elevator being out but it was a bad luck combo of medical emergency and stuck elevator. read more
