The manager at the Burlingame extra space storage office is rude. he calls my house does not listen to me, proceeds to talk over me, and then says to me have a nice day and hangs up on me. Then he starts sending me text messages as I'm looking for the corporate phone number and address to file a complaint. I respond to his text and let him know and no one certain terms that I would never read what you have to say when you already hung up on me and that I am learning customer service of your ill conduct. Well, I'm on the phone with corporate. He continues to send me text messages. The audacity of people who feel so comfortable and their job that they can ill treat. I know that they try to SCAM you a lead you on my giving you another managers personal line instead of doing it the PROPER WAY! This man is a menace and he has treated MANY customer so wrongly. 1280 Rollins Rd manager is a rude thief. My paid move out date is October 29, 2024. I have moved and cleaned unit but I am 2 weeks early. So the unit is mine until October 28th. I am moving and need it. Instead of honoring the lease agreement or giving me a partial refund the rude manager calls me yelling at me and has closed the unit with no care to the paid move out date. so i went in to rent a 5x5 space but unfortunately they did not have one. despite this the staff, tina and ellie, took the time to give me a tour of the facility, show me other options, and were very friendly and helpful. i was impressed with the cleanliness and liked the layout which seems very secure. even though they weren't available at this time i will be checking back and renting from them in the future! read more

Excellent service and staff ! We have used several storage facilities in the Burlingame and Millbrae areas and Extra Space is definitely the best by far ! Very clean and exceptionally maintained , carts have never been a problem and the staff have been incredibly helpful. Kelsie in particular has been very attentive, she is organized, has strong management skills - listens to customers, has a real attention to detail and is very efficient in all follow ups and commitments. We had two storage units here for four years. When it came time to move out Michael, the manager was more than helpful. He went above and beyond to ensure that our move is seamless and easy. Michael was professional, knowledgeable and pleasant at all times couldn't ask for a better experience. Very friendly staff and helpful! Always clean and never felt unsafe. The only complaint is the prices never stop going up! I left my other storage place because I was told by Extra Space Storage the price would only go up ONCE A YEAR and only by $5.00 to $7.00. Well, that never happened. Price would go up by A LOT!!!!! and more than just once a year. I rented the unit for many years but that did not seem to matter. I talked to the District Manger a few times about frequent high price increases and that I will be with them for a few years. District Manger really was not interested if I stayed or go. He was not going to do anything about the price. One last thing parking garage is very tight NOT many parking spaces at all. read more

I think this review will be an ongoing experience. Thus far, I'd say they are doing well. The place is very clean, well lit and secure. That's a good start. It's expensive, no doubt about it. Avoid using them. They use bait and switch. The initial advertised rate is competitive, but they did not tell me that on the fifth month they would increase the rent by 40%. I guess they figure that we will be locked in and won't be able to move to another facility. Also, I had to go over the registration twice because of the incompetence of the people running the facility, and even though I had declined insurance, having a generous umbrella policy, they still charge me for it. Be careful. The place is clean and well maintained. read more

BUYER BEWARE! After 4 months, Extra Space Storage raised our monthly payment by 49%. (That's not a typo.) We made two appeals to the District Mgr for a more reasonable increase and were declined both times. The facility is clean and tidy, and Mike and Sandra in the front office are professional, but that can't make up for the insane increase and the very real concern that Extra Space could do it again . . . At any time. We are taking our business elsewhere. read more

As a current customer of Extra Space Storage in Burlingame who has decided enough is enough. I want to advise future customers who may be looking to use this facility of the frequency of unit rate increases. I have been a customer since February of 2012 and since that time I have received 4 rent increases! the first one comes only 3 months after you sign your lease and the 2nd one comes 6 months later. When the 2nd increase came in 2013 I moved to a smaller unit. Since moving I again got 2 increases. 1st 3 months later and the 2nd 6 months later. The total increase on the 2nd unit would have totaled $26.00 a month. I consider this to be excessive and unnecessary so I am moving to another company. The company response is it is necessary for the company bottom line. My response was it is not acceptable for my bottom line. Just be forewarned if you are considering Extra Space Storage. read more

This used to be Central Self Storage until Extra Space Storage (a Utah based "real estate investment trust that owns or operates 634 self-storage properties in 32 states") purchased it last year. I liked renting units here (despite building limitations) under the previous ownership, and stayed on as a renter for several months after the sale, but would never rent or recommend renting from Extra Space again. Here's why: 1. My access code would randomly stop working (always after hours, of course), and the staff could never explain why. I've seen this happen with other renters also. There is no resident manager, so I had to call ESS's national number to get access. 2. No vehicle taller than 10'3" can get in the building, so has to be parked on the street for loading and unloading. Based on the continued damage to the building overhang, I'd say this comes as a shock to most people. 3. Extra Space doesn't guarantee rates, and makes no offers available to existing renters. My 10'x10' unit went up to $214 a month (ridiculous!), while that same unit would only be $165 to a new renter. Of course, the lower rate isn't guaranteed, so it would quickly increase. I got the same size unit at Bay Area Self Storage for $155, guaranteed for a year. Take your business to the newer and far superior (and locally owned) Bay Area Self Storage facility at 92 & 101, where you don't have to worry about the height of your truck. UPDATE January 2013: Extra Space Storage is currently involved in a class-action lawsuit/settlement. I had a large 10x10 unit here for quite some time. All of my belongings that I had stored here now smell like cat urine. I don't have a cat. My guess is that they fumigated the place due to rats or pests of some kind. Without proper ventilation you can see how toxic fumigation could penetrate and leave a lasting stench. Their rates are really high too. I moved to Marin and found a storage facility that is climate controlled (ventilation!), on the 1st floor and I pay half of what I was paying here! read more

If i could give this business 0 STAR review i would. After 6 months been here they raise the rent of the unit. I called their main office and complain so they told me that a district manager will call me in about 48-72 hours. I received a call until a week later from the district manager telling me that we could get the unit for the same price one more month but that was it. So 2 weeks later we went to the office letting them know that we were going to move and I asked for a prorated fee the guy said no. So the next day I call and spoke with Kirk told me that I needed to talk to Sandra Hill but she was not in she was out sick. Once she get back she will call me! 3 days pass no call. Called on the fourth day still the same answer. 1 week pass no answer. So now I'm yelping them out. Because they stole my money!!! read more

This location is under new ownership. Prior owners were Central Self Storage. Such a business seems fairly straight forward but the new owners haven't provided good service. The transition of ownership has been poor and communication extremely lacking. Locating the new phone number alone was a challenge. Then after getting the new number, it was normal to talk to an answering machine every time I called. read more

We have had storage at several different locations over the years and i can't say enough great things about Extra Space storage in Burlingame. Seriously this is the best run storage facility i have every seen. Kirk and the other staff are so nice you actually WANT to go to storage. The location is kept so clean and secure. They continually check locks and let you know if you forgot to close your unit properly. Every time i go, i say.. "i love this place" and that is not an exaggeration. They really do far exceed expectations in everything. Even the little things, like having carts that aren't broken... If you need storage, this is THE place to go. I have used a small 5 x 5 space in this facility two or three times in the past ten years, always for less than a year each time. It worked out perfectly when moving furniture and whatnot from one location to another. It was short term storage for me. I took advantage of the special web pricing with full understanding that the rent would eventually go up. Most important for me has been the speed of the check in procedure. Once again today, after having made a reservation via their web site, the check in was fast and smooth. I had no problems moving out the last time I used their service so all in all, I'll have to give them five stars. I can move stuff in and out until 10pm every night. I moved into extra storage space in Burlingame one rainy Saturday morning. It made sense to utilize their facility since you don't have to unload your truck in the rain or be exposed to the weather. I reserved the unit online which makes the price of the unit monthly price less expensive than if they give you a quote in the office. The people in the office are very nice and provide excellent customer service. read more
