Formerly happy customer, looking to find a new place ASAP…read more Storage Corner Half Moon Bay WAS once a locally-owned business (Coastside Self-Storage) and I would give them 5 stars when that was the case. Unfortunately the sell-off to Storage Corner (A private equity firm) is following the typical trajectory of most private-equity takeovers: Squeezing the customers for every possible penny. Shortly after the takeover, Storage Corner began sneakily adding a "Storage Protection Plan" to every account. This is marketed like insurance but it's very cleverly NOT called insurance, because they want to skirt California's regulations around what insurance actually must provide for the money. They're legally required to remove this fee if you prove you have insurance coverage on your belongings already - but they will require a copy of your insurance plan to prove it and then the DAY that plan expires, if you don't take the initiative to reach out and provide a new copy for your renewal, they just silently add the protection plan back onto your account. Three weeks after I complained and warned them that this practice (auto-adding services to a recurring card payment without explicit consent) is likely illegal in California, they raised the rate on my storage unit by 45%. I'm not sure if they raised everyone else's rates too (I suspect yes, given it's a private equity takeover) or just want me to go away so nobody calls them on their billing BS, but it's clear the direction that customer service is headed in.

Coastside Self Storage hasn't been under the new management long, but there have been some really…read morenice changes already. I don't go to my storage often, but my office is in a building on the same street as three of their structors.. There has been workers all over the place fixing things. They have upped the security system with new keypads on both the entrance and the exits. And fixed a lot of the lighting. The best part, you actually get to speak with a person when you call during business hours!! I can't believe how that is becoming more rare. Melanie helped me figure out the new code system, and told me about some of the other security measures. I've seen the cameras all over, but it was news to hear that some weren't working before. It is very reassuring that there's someone behind the camera. I would highly recommend the improved Storage Pro on the Coastside.

This being my first time ever using public storage option really set the bar high. There are so many pros to choosing them: - 10 day grace period for payments which is just unheard of any business allowing this much trust in their customers - The location is tucked away enough where there's never traffic; I rarely ever saw another person going in and out, it really felt like you had the place to yourself to take your time - It's kept so clean!! - My online portal never worked no matter how hard I tried so whenever I needed to make a payment, it was as easy as emailing them to charge my card on file. Genuinely no hassle, no stress - Everyone I've interacted with in the office was so kind and supportive I almost want to gatekeep just because if I ever need a storage solution again I make sure there's space for me but they deserve the business and all the glowing reviews!

Of course all things good must come to an end…read more When I first signed on to them, they had only been around for almost a year and barely established. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years but they no longer value my patronage. They not only raised the monthly rent multiple times (which is expected for inflation) but they also discontinued a discount that I had on my unit since they knew I would be a long-term renter. When I tried to negotiate a compromise, all I received back was pretty much a "Don't like it? Then get out." I hate businesses that don't keep their word. Very disappointed how they've become just like any other public storage location. =(

This company should be shut down. -- EDIT: appreciate the wonderful feedback from the owners. It's month to month, you're not locking into anything despite the advertised price. And they're right, they'll give you 1 month notice before doubling your rate. And for prospective renters, or others impacted by their fraud: my credit card company agreed the charges were fraudulent and disputed the transaction effortlessly. I'm no expert, but that suggests to me this is certifiably weasel activity. The owner wont even attach their real name to their own business because they're embarrassed to relate themselves to their lowlife operation. Pathetic.
