Formerly happy customer, looking to find a new place ASAP…read more Storage Corner Half Moon Bay WAS once a locally-owned business (Coastside Self-Storage) and I would give them 5 stars when that was the case. Unfortunately the sell-off to Storage Corner (A private equity firm) is following the typical trajectory of most private-equity takeovers: Squeezing the customers for every possible penny. Shortly after the takeover, Storage Corner began sneakily adding a "Storage Protection Plan" to every account. This is marketed like insurance but it's very cleverly NOT called insurance, because they want to skirt California's regulations around what insurance actually must provide for the money. They're legally required to remove this fee if you prove you have insurance coverage on your belongings already - but they will require a copy of your insurance plan to prove it and then the DAY that plan expires, if you don't take the initiative to reach out and provide a new copy for your renewal, they just silently add the protection plan back onto your account. Three weeks after I complained and warned them that this practice (auto-adding services to a recurring card payment without explicit consent) is likely illegal in California, they raised the rate on my storage unit by 45%. I'm not sure if they raised everyone else's rates too (I suspect yes, given it's a private equity takeover) or just want me to go away so nobody calls them on their billing BS, but it's clear the direction that customer service is headed in.

I don't go to my storage often, but my office is in a building on the same street as three of their structors.. There has been workers all over the place fixing things. They have upped the security system with new keypads on both the entrance and the exits. And fixed a lot of the lighting.The best part, you actually get to speak with a person when you call during business hours!! I can't believe how that is becoming more rare. Melanie helped me figure out the new code system, and told me about some of the other security measures. I've seen the cameras all over, but it was news to hear that some weren't working before. It is very reassuring that there's someone behind the camera. I would highly recommend the improved Storage Pro on the Coastside.

San Bruno Storage is an excellent choice. No rot, no mold on any of my paper items. It is important that there is available parking outside at all hours, which makes loading and unloading more convenient. Restroom is available during office hours. Cargo elevator to save yourself some muscle power. Security is important, without disclosing the details lets just say I am happy with the security arrangements. Unlike those big corporate franchises, Lisa is a one person management department, which is the best management. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years but they no longer value my patronage. They not only raised the monthly rent multiple times (which is expected for inflation) but they also discontinued a discount that I had on my unit since they knew I would be a long-term renter. When I tried to negotiate a compromise, all I received back was pretty much a "Don't like it? Then get out." I hate businesses that don't keep their word.
