always great customer service! always a smile on their faces when I come in. A really great storage facility.

I stored my belongings here for about a year and had no issues at all. The facility is always clean, secure, and very easy to access with ground floor units. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I always felt my items were safe. I would definitely recommend this storage place. read more

Long story: I'm swapping out some furniture at my place which means I can either keep both old & new stuff and always be walking in between OR could go with the livable alternative of getting some storage! A friend already had a 8 x 20 unit so I went in with him. Even though I'm coming from Oakland it's pretty convenient, has 24 hour access and open most days of the year. The security guard makes rounds so sometimes it takes him a minute to get to the gate but I'm happy to wait if it means he's watching out. Finally it's clean so I'm pretty comfortable going there. Definitely worth a look! read more

Great customer service , always a pleasure to do business here , If you're looking for a clean storage and 24 hour access I recommend American Storage . read more

So I rented a storage space here for over a year. I'm a contractor and store equipment at their facility. I moved out on the 28th of February and notified them that day. They charged me for an entire month anyways. They are claiming that I needed to provide them a 7 day notice. I said that I did, on the 28th. They should then deduct the difference, correct? Well they claim no. So unprofessional. Any business would do this, it's common sense as well as professional. Renter beware...... read more

Note that we really liked so much about American Storage. It's easy to get in and out of. It's spacious and well-marked. The office is staffed by Carmen who is lovely, always answers the phone, and overall is a great asset to American Storage. We finally moved out as we had three major problems that are worth sharing, and which I would have wanted to know about when considering the unit: 1) In our first unit, the floor essentially caved in in the corner. We moved into a larger unit and thought we were set. 2) Our second unit was broken into. I have no idea how in a secure facility this would happen. We had over $5000 worth of technology stolen. American Storage was unfortunately not helpful nor did they accept any responsibility. Apparently, it was because we used our own lock thus our fault somehow. It turns out our area was one of the areas not covered by camera. 3) Not long after that we came in to find the roof had leaked and ruined quite a few of our items. Again, no responsibility, no reimbursement, no support at all. We finally moved out at our own expense. American Storage ended up costing us a lot more than just the monthly rent. read more

A bullet point review is in order, since I can't get too artsy reviewing a storage space... -friendly/helpful staff with an awesome hot sauce collection and an even more awesome cat (see picture) -clean facilities -easy access -good location (compared to other facilities far outside the city) -good deals for your first 6 months No complaints so far! Thanks American Storage read more

The staff was helpful and helped me unload a heavy item into my unit. I always have an easy time getting in

Absolute scam. They lock you in at a set rate and then a few months later will continuesly increase the amount you have to pay. Then when you ask them why your rate is increasing, they tell you that it fluctuates and there is nothing they can do. Avoid at all cost, literally. read more

This company made our move a total nightmare. An employee told us we could come until 6pm to rent a unit, and we timed our day around that schedule, but when we tried to rent a unit at 5:40 -- a big truck full of all our possessions in tow -- the person in charge told us they stopped making rentals for the day at 5:30 and we'd have to come back the next morning. That was a huge problem for so many reasons: 1) Our truck was due that night and we'd be charged late fees for keeping it another day. 2) We had no idea where to legally to park a large truck in a new city. 3) Our belongings weren't safe the truck unattended (the truck came with a lock but a wire-cutter would have made short work of it). When I expressed my concerns the the person in charge, he had the gall to suggest we sleep in our truck on the street to guard our stuff from theft. I could hardly believe that this was their solution. I can think of many considerate ways to address the needs of a customer who had been put in such a position: offer to park the truck in their facility overnight, reimburse us for our truck late fees, or just rent us a unit before 6pm as previously agreed --- but this company resolutely refused to help us. We took our business elsewhere, finishing our move hours later than should have been necessary. read more

We had two storage units at American Storage and most of our things were ruined by overwhelming rodent droppings, urine, and chewing. And if that wasn't bad enough, there was a hole in one unit, water came in an ruined a mattress and box springs that we had used for only a few months! We had no food nor anything else that would attract rodents. This is absolutely unacceptable! I wouldn't store even my garbage can in this filthy place! They deserve negative stars. read more

5 star service from the minute I called these guys. First off, Pat Ryan Moving recommended them. (if you don't know who he is, YELP him and you'll find endless 5 star reviews)................2nd off, they bent over backward to save me a unit when they were almost sold out. Thirdly John and Steve helped me save the unit and didn't charge me for a few weeks until I was sure I could use it. They also worked with my movers to help get everything coordinated. So take away the awesome customer service and what do you have: a really clean well lit, safe storage place in the middle of a questionable neighborhood. It's open 24 hours a day, there is a guard on site, everything is clean and locked up, and you leave the place with a secure feeling knowing that your entire life's worth of belongings will indeed be there when you come again next time. WOW, I feel that much better now knowing that all my sh*t is nearby and not in an unknown storage facility in the OC where I can't get to my stuff if I want to. THANK YOU JOHN AND STEVE! read more

I get the soup nazi feeling from this place. IF the price is right for you and you follow their rules, it sounds like you'll have a good experience, if not friction will probably result. So be sure you're comfortable, able or willing to abide by their requirements. I did appreciate the staff were upfront that the cheapest storage available was $120 and that any deals offered expired in 6 months and a different rate would apply. But I've rented freight ship containers elsewhere and I don't recall needing to provide a credit card, proof of auto insurance, etc. when I rented them but this wasn't in San Francisco, so may'be I'm out of touch with storage in the city. read more

John at American Storage was so helpful. He took payment over the phone, I faxed info (didn't live in CA just yet), AND he even made an exception and when my boxes arrived well before me, he generously arranged to move my boxes into the storage facility (lucky for him it wasn't any furniture, just boxes)... It was all done with a smile and a gracious "no problem at all", and without any additional charge. It was so easy to work with this company. The entire facility is impeccably maintained, with an easy location via car. If ever I need storage again, I will look no further! read more

This place is amazing. I can't stop talking about them. First I went to Public Storage, big mistake. Not only were they charging $300+ for a 10 by 15 space, they told me under no circumstances could I store motorcycles in their units. Even if I drained the gas out! Thank god I found American Storage. The lady at the office was so nice and helpful. As soon as I saw my new unit I knew my stuff had found it's home. 24 hour access is like a dream come true to a procrastinator like me. They have a guard who not only controls the entrance from 6pm to 6am, but also patrols the facility in a golf cart all night long. I really, really love this place. read more

Oh My God! These guys are great! I can be so amazed at a company that has its customers as its primary concern. They use large shipping containers that are split up into storage bins with good, strong roll-up doors on the front of each. The area is clean and well organized. When you come in to the office you'll find the staff helpful and on top of their job. John is incredible and really uses his heart to help all he can. I used to use Public Storage at Mission and South Van Ness. I had a 10x10 and paid $310 per month. I have the same size here at American Storage and I pay $175!!!! Holy Crap Batman!!! Public Storage is only open during the day, but American Storage is open 24/7!!!! Any time you need them, they are there. The only negative that I have is that there are no lights and no electricity for plugs anywhere near the lockers. Now this place is a little out of the way, but obviously well worth the trip. At the end of Caesar Chavez go one block past 3rd Street and make a right. Go to the light and make a left and you'll see American Storage on the right, across from the grain elevators. I highly recommend this place and hope many of you take your business to them. I can't say too many good things about them. read more

A health lawsuit waiting to happen. Beware the mold! I went to check out storage units. The staff is nice, especially Carmen, and things seem well run and organized, but they showed me three units that not only smelled of mold but with visible black plate-sized areas of mold. Green mold growing on the walls. When I asked about this they said yeah these aren't that bad there are others which are worse. Totally happy to rent me a moldy storage unit. Wait until someone gets ill (mold can cause permanent damage) and then sues for disability payments for the rest of their life - that's going to get expensive. If you smell mold get out of there - it's terrible for you to be exposed to that. Imagine your stuff getting all moldy then your respiratory problems resulting. Better to rent storage somewhere else. One extra star for 24/7 access and Carmen. read more

American Storage uses old railroad freight cars as storage units. They butt them up against each other, end to end. The one that I rented had its roof sealed with pitch. In the summer heat, the pitch melted and dripped onto a couch, among other things. I went to the office seeking reimbursement for the couch and they said that they would clean it. They did, and the cleaning was entirely successful. However, they broke some ornamental plates while cleaning the couch. Their concept of fixing the cause of the problem was to put duct tape over the roof seams on the inside of the roof. In the next summer, the pitch melted again and both tar AND duct tape marred my belongings. But I was so anxious to put this experience behind me that I vacated the container and cleaned the stored items myself. read more

I have been using the facility for 6 months and I think it is truly an excellent facility. I got an 8x8 space and it was $90 per month. I specifically asked them if the price would change. They said it might change later, we don't know when. I asked if the price had changed recently and they said "no, it's been a long time." 6 months later, I get a letter saying your "6 month promo rate" has expired and your new rate is $135/month. That was unbelievable to me since I specifically asked about this before signing up! Now they want 50% more??? That's my only frustration. Otherwise, great facility, and open 24/7, and good staff. If they told me up front that my rate was only good for 6 months, I might NOT have used their facility. read more

Great people work here and the facilities are secure. They were helpful in advising how much space to get and there was no sales pressure to get a bigger, more expensive unit. The security seemed great. When I was unloading stuff from my unit a guy came up and politely asked who I was to make sure I was the person leasing the unit. On a final note, they also helped me maneuver a big moving truck when loading or unloading. In closing, great service, good prices, good billing practices (deposit refund was timely), and secure. read more

John in the office is super helpful and accommodating. I needed to help a friend move her apartment furniture while she was out of the country. American Storages provide locks, holds the keys with the 24/7 security and allow authorized people access 24/7. It makes sharing the until move in / move out super easy if that's something you need. Located close to the city and Golden Bay Movers park their trucks in the lot so if you need movers you can use them and cut down on transit time. Docked one start because they don't use email to send or receive documents. They said their computers aren't hooked up to the net for security reasons which struck me as oddly paranoid. read more

Staff are friendly and helpful. Storage space is clean. 24 hour access is a nice bonus.

One Big Man, One Big Truck recommended these guys and I have been really happy with them. I was initially put off by the metal storage container type set up but I have had no problems over the last year or so. I left the country for over a year and the managers went in each month to air the unit out and check for problems (there weren't any). I highly recommend this place. read more

John at American Storage is a gem to work with. When we needed some storage last minute, I called all the storage places in SF, and was very impressed with how caring and professional John was. I finished moving to San Francisco at 7pm on a Sunday night and all my stuff would not fit in my new apartment. American Storage was the only place in the yellow pages open at that time on a Sunday. It was my only option but it turned out great. Polite service, 24 hour access and reasonable prices. It's in a sketchy industrial area but the grounds themselves are secure and the units are clean and don't leak. Since then I have moved my stuff to a location closer to where I live and I miss the 24 hour access! read more

Threatened me with the police after they claimed they have me on video tape cutting off my own lock, which is untrue since I have not reason to do that, they have no cameras, and yet when I went by there was indeed evidence someone tried to cut off my lock. They barred me access to my own things, then wanted to charge me nearly $400 to gain access when I was 2 days past the due date on a prepaid service and wouldn't let me prorate it. This have been by far the worst storage company I have ever seen or heard of and am about to file a police report for grand larceny against them since several of my items are missing. They have one security guy that goes around the premise once every 30 minutes or so which means drives right by anything going on since it's a big property. And no cameras, no alarms, and they lock the door if you're literally one day past due on the bill. The 24 hour access is a joke since I've been left waiting at the gate for over an hour before. The prices are high and they have no other amenities. Good luck if you go with them. read more

Ran my staging business from here for years. Usually had between 2 and 4 full container units, and they were always helpful, pleasant and professional. and they never gave me a hard time when my keys were lost (AGAIN, DAMMIT!) and i needed them to open up for me. The bathrooms are clean and the units don't leak. Best pricing in the city as well. I use them now for personal storage and couldn't be happier. well, they could have showers as well.. that would make them a liveaboard operation... read more

Wow. This place is one of the few truly competent businesses out there. Very well run, spotlessly clean, totally safe. John the manager is a total no-nonsense straight-talkin' type of guy. I no longer need this storage space but I am actually kind of sad to leave. Just a total no-hassle experience for the last 3+ years. Their shipping container storage system works great. 24 hour drive-up access is a major plus. It also is nice that they are next door to Building Resources. read more

I woke up this morning knowing that I needed to rent a storage unit but dreading having to do it. John at American Storage made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. The prices can't be beat and the service is amazing. I accidentally broke my key off in my storage padlock and one of the passing technicians happily assisted me. I absolutely recommend this place if you need storage. read more

Stay the heck away far from this place. Their so called "managers" don't know their own policies; their phone manners are bad; their voices on the phone are creepers like they're junkies and top members of AA...cannot be trusted type of character. When you call them on the phone with your credit card, they repeat your cc numbers out loud in their small front desk where people can walk-in at any time. If you pay 1 day past your due date, they count it as "late" payment even though technically, you have 10 days before they charge you a whopping $20 late fee. They advertise a non-existent 24-hr security which is merely a front desk person. If you need access to storage at night, it's like walking into a black hole of nothingness. No lights!!!! Walk away!! !! !! No, wait..... Run the heck away from here! read more

This storage place is open 24 hours! The bathrooms are clean, staff is friendly and helpful (they lent me a dolly :) ...really great place.

I shopped around and called Steve at American Storage because I needed a place to put a containers worth of furniture. I asked in advance if this was common place and he said yes, no problem. Today I had the container delivered to American Storage and after picking up some workers, we went over to unload. The driver needed to back the 40' container through the gate and down one aisle in order to pull forward to my space. Steve very quickly lost his cool, started gesturing rudely to the driver and came over and told me my driver "IS AN ASS, HE NEEDS TO MOVE THIS TRUCK NOW, THIS IS COSTING ME MONEY!!!" So the driver very kindly ignored this outburst and carried on. After pulling forward so we could begin to unload the driver left the trailer and drove away in his rig. Apparently this is not allowed and after Steve discovered it he went crazy and told me "TO GET MY STUFF OUT NOW! CALL THE DRIVER AND GET THIS CONTAINER OUT OF HERE NOW!". This was after we had unloaded about a third of the container. I asked very nicely could we somehow work this out, but no joy. So now I"m stuck with a 40' container full of furniture with nowhere to put it. Had to come over to my store, lose a day of sales trying to fit it in, plus the extra time and expense trying to fit it in. I don't do business with cry babies who throw temper tantrums, how about you? BTW as you can imagine I get lots of people who have just moved to SF coming into my store and I'll be sure to tell every one of them about my experience with Steve at American Storage. read more

Not even 30 day notice to cancel. I rented a storage space for my bus here for almost 3 years. Received a call yesterday that they would not accept March's payment and I needed to be vacated by end of February. I called to ask for 30 days and received hostility and was told "this isn't housing". I'm off to check what my lease agreement states. So you can rent here but I guess make sure to call in anytime you are out of town on vacation in case they decide to remodel and throw you out with 15 days notice. We have been using American Storage for a bit over a year now, and I feel compelled to write a review because we've had nothing but the best experience here. John initially set us up, and he is great! Not sure if he's back yet, but everyone else in the office is very nice too. The place is very clean and well maintained and, really, the help we get there is fantastic. In our search for a storage place, we've looked at a few other places, including the one off of 7th St in Portrero, but that place does not even come close to this one. We are huge fans! read more
