I have no issue with local staff. But I would never again do business with Extra Space Storage, and I encourage others to do likewise. We moved stuff for storage into a 5x7 space at $77 a month. Four months later Extra Space Storage increased our monthly rent from $77 to $154. My math says they doubled the rent. There was nothing saying our $77 a month for this tiny space was an introductory rate. And this is not what Extra Space says. Instead, they say every rental agreement gives the facility the unilateral right to raise the rent." Apparently that means to them that they can double the rent with impunity. They claim they sent a "notice" of the increase in the mail. No notice arrived. Examined my auto-debit to find the problem. Spoke to the local manager, who said . She also stated that she could lower the rate "because I called" to $127 a month. But only going forward, so the gross overpayment of the past is being kept by Extra Space. IMO this is deceptive business practice and should be illegal. IMO this is just a business fraud. My advice is to avoid them at all cost, unless you are comfortable with a doubling of your space rent. read more

My storage unit at Extra Space Storage was robbed in early April of 2024. I lost a 35 year collection of very valuable things worth a great deal of money, as well as personal jewelry, rugs, and much more. The manager of the place, Oliver, called one morning to say he "discovered that my unit did not have a lock on it". No mention of any warning from their security system that my unit was open when the security system also knew I was not in the building. Odd that that was not mentioned. Does anyone monitor their security systems? Also odd that my unit, which the management of this organization knew had a great deal of valuable things in it, was the only unit robbed. I guess the robbers just got lucky that night. I filed a police report and the police came out to the Extra Space Storage facility to view my unit and take a report. The first thing they said to me was "Oh, we've been here many times, many many times". I've written 4 or 5 letters to the Legal Department of the corporate management of Extra Space Storage in Salt Lake City. I got no written replies, 2 very brief phone calls, none from lawyers. I've talked about the monitoring of their security systems but they don't respond to my comments. I've asked about viewing the security tapes, but they won't let me. They cite the "Confidentiality" of their other customers as their concern. I asked them to tell me what they saw on the security tapes, without compromising the identity of the clients, and they said they would not unless there was a police warrant issued.Why a police warrant? "Because it will relieve us of liability". Have they ever viewed their own security tapes? They won't say. They have to my knowledge never contacted the police on their own. They have never hired a detective to investigate this. The message is: Go away and don't bother us. Your problem, not ours. They are uncooperative in investigating this and are stonewalling me. The police have been paying attention but are not yet fully involved. The first thing the first officer I talked to at the Burglary Unit a few days after the burglary, said was "Why did you leave your stuff there? Those places are being broken into all the time.". It seems that the police have been involved with a considerable number of robberies at Extra Space Storage and other locations. so I've had my storage unit at this place for two years now. it was fine at first but as time goes on they screw you more and more by jacking up the prices. my unit is a 10x20 they just raised my rent on that unit to 950 bucks a month, if you go on their website the price is over half off and is only 400 buck'. management says to me the longer you rent a unit from us the more you pay that's not right. they are a bunch of thieves read more

I had a great experience with the Extra Space here, and wanted to especially thank Oliver, the site manager. The overall experience was just very easy and smooth. We could park our moving van inside their garage, and there were dollies to move our stuff. I forgot to lock my unit properly and Oliver was nice enough to let me know. The neighborhood isn't the best, but there is gated indoor parking. The facility is well lit and there is ample parking indoors (about 10 spaces, lots of room between cars to open doors and load up storage carts). Extra space self storage company is SHIT. You shouldn't rent from them. They take over pre existing self storage company and verbally implement rules that work for them and not the renters. They up tenants rent so they can allow new renters to move in fee and rent free for the first mont. Then they tell us we are paying more because the previous business that existed was not charging use accordingly. BS. I found a unit that is larger for less, at the first storage facility I checked out recently. I will be moving into 5×10 for 90 busks a month, versus the 137.50 Extra space is charging for a 5×8. The front office staff are mostly unfriendly. All who seem to be Kool or decent are quickly removed. The regional manager Judy Strom (of my opinion) does not allow the and experience of tenant renters, she claims that the company does no wrong . If you bring a issue to her, she will suggest that you move out if you do not appreciate the bs. They accuse, they do not clean often. The rest rooms are filthy and smell of urine, and half the time you can't access them. They target individuals that speak up and force them out. The renters parking is often filled with drug activity and addicts who park here and do sketchy deals. The parking lot is often trashed, I actually swept up the lot last night because it was so filthy it kills your moral. What was once a decent storage unit facility is now hell for renters. You can do as wish, but if I knew what they were in the beginning I would not have stayed this long. You live and learn. EXTRA SPACE STORAGE FACILITY HAS BEEN 10×'S MORE DIFFICULT THAN COVID19, AND MAKES YOU FEEL WAY SICKER. My statements are honest and of my experience with EXTRA MONEY STORAGE. BEWARE. P.s. I will say this. I don't know how long I will stay at Extra Space Storage, whose prices against comparable units in the area are 15-20% higher (compared to Public Storage, Army Street storage and U-Haul) BUT - the management of this particular site needs to thank Oliver. I believe he keeps a lot of clients from bailing. The building feels safe and secure and CLEAN! Place does not smell or look like a gas station bath room. Other places I visited to rent were, dirty and icky feeling and somewhat humid. Code entrance gate and parking is inside so that is good against the elements. Two large separate elevators and each storage unit bigger than 5 x 5 has a roll up door. Units themselves are super clean, no broken dry wall or stained up wooden floors. Concrete floors and solid metal dividers between units. Hallways are bright inside with security cameras on each floor. Extra Space is a storage facility but it feels and looks like the way you want your home to look. So in closing, Extra Space management, please thank Oliver. He is personable, treats clients well and knows us by our first names too. He probably gets renters from bailing, including me, until your prices are so above market that I will have to go! read more

My only complaint is one echoed by everybody else; the contract is month-to-month which gives them the right to increase your rent at any time. That's just bunk but they know they got you by the short and curlies once you're there. I think it's costing them at least 1 star. They gave me their word per the contact I entered into that rates may increase, but only once annually, and they would inform me beforehand. EXTRA SPACE lies right out the gate to get you to sign on. Not only did I get rate increases in the first 6 months but it has been very substantial, over $60 in a year. THIS IS DISGUSTING. After complaining to many people (it was never the same person twice working the location I rented from), but the District manager called me and said (I QUOTE) "Your rate will no longer increase. It is my guarantee to keep your rate at the level it is at that point and never again increase." LIES, LIES, LIES!! I used this facility during my apartment moving process and it was such a pleasure to have an easy, clear, and quick registration process and an even faster check out. Their promotions are legitimate and straightforward. The staff are incredibly friendly and eager to help. Though the location isn't in the safest part of town, it is in great proximity to downtown and the neighboring southern SF districts too and the staff manage to keep it feeling very safe and secure. The facilities are clean and well kept as well. The site has moving carts free for use and sells basically any extra moving amenity you might need right in the office.
