This company is a bunch of scammers. They rented me a 10 x 10 space on the third floor. When I got there there was NO elevator and I'm 70 years old. I cancelled but they still billed me $225. When I called they said it would be a month before I would get refunded the money. THEN they billed me $25 for a service fee. I will never use them or recommend them to anyone. read more

The amount of contempt and disdain Pam (old woman at front desk) has for her co-workers and customers is dangerous. Everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie. When confronted about an extra fee that was not on the lease she quickly referred us to her District Manger, "Derek Coffill" but turns out the email and number are both fake. Other employees openly share how Pam's presence on site makes it a living hell for themselves and they feel sorry for customers. And they are extremely nosy. If you just want to store your stuff without being watched and talked to then anywhere else is a better option. read more

Do not rent here. They rent you a unit online, they tell you 3 feet by 4 feet. They fail to mention that you only get a box cut in half. So it's 3x3x4 and they don't say this. When you access you things, the onsite manage Pamela will always be in your business. I can't even go to my unit without her bothering me. We've had storage here for a few years and it's been trouble free until now. They replaced the latch mechanism just last week for the units because the old ones "were easy to break into". It turns out that crooks have been entering the building at off hours and that the upgraded latches are a joke. They appear to have used a pry bar to destroy the new latches (leaving the lock intact) and then rifle through the units at their leasure. It happened to dozens of units, including ours. Management had no idea, a client discovered the break-ins. And management was not helpful with any details, including when and how the substandard new latches will be replaced. This is a complete failure on the part of management there. Anyone with storage there should expect to likely be broken into. Also, in a cost-cutting move, no employees are there any longer on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. read more

I have used this location of public storage in the past. It is a great and safe space. I am asking for a quote now to use them again.

I've had a unit for about 1.5 years. Based on my experience, the business model appears to be to offer a reasonable rate to get you in the door, and then raise your bill approximately 25-30% six months after that, and then continue raising rates. Go in with your eyes open, and expect similar treatment. Looking on the website, they still offer new units at about my original rate, yet they are proposing to charge me 60% higher than those starting rates after being there under two years. Yes, that's right, the rates displayed on the website are not what you'll be paying for long, in my experience. My first rate increase was 30% and came at month 6. I wasn't happy but it would have been a hassle to move all the stuff, which I assume is what they count on. About a year after that they've proposed another rate hike starting next month for another approximate 25% of the current rate. I will be moving out before this new rate kicks in next month. I might as well spend that money on renting a larger apartment with another bedroom instead of this storage space, it's about the same cost. In recap, in the less than 2 years I've been there the rate has gone up 60%. It's like they bank on it being a hassle to move, and will try to wring out all the money they can once they get you in. I had a unit downtown in SF, and boy what a difference. These people that work here are so friendly from move in to move out. Great character friendly smiles and works with you on anything. I'm glad I was able to comfortably afford it as they are getting expensive but it's a great value to ensure safety for your belongings. It is a storage facility. It is in San Francisco. It is near USF and in a fairly residential area. It is the only one in the area. All this translates to a fairly full storage facility that doesn't have to give discounts and compete on price. They are expensive, they don't offer the "1 month free" that other places do, and if you don't like it there, you can go find someplace else because tomorrow someone will come in and rent the place you just vacated. The people are friendly enough, the facility is clean and well maintained. Everything worked fine the times I have been there. And it is close to my place. Getting there is not the easiest - it is off a little side-street that is only accessible when heading West on Geary.. The hours are a little limiting - they close at 6:00 with no after hours access. Parking and unloading is a little tough - small lot with only 5 spaces. But it serves it's purpose. read more

I've never rented a storage space before (and how I've lived in SF without one is beyond me). I've gone back and forth on this for awhile. This one is nearby, but also had some concerning reviews. Ultimately I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt because of convenience. Honestly, this couldn't have been easier. I reserved online (so if you don't want to talk to anyone, you don't have to - introvert's dream!). They texted me the day before move in with my codes and info. When I arrived I snagged a cart from the building and went right to my new storage space. Lighting is great in general, though there is no overhead lighting in the unit. Leaving the door open it's fine or a small battery-operated lantern would work). They had a lock and keys waiting for me. The elevator worked fine. There was plenty of parking. My access code worked properly. The building does have a bit of a damp smell, but it could be that it's just solid concrete. I'll put some Damp-Rid in the unit just in case. The location is great, right near Target on Masonic/Geary. The one staff person I interacted with was super helpful and friendly. Pro-tip: bring a jacket. It is so windy up there (and gusty). Even if it's warm somewhere else in the city it may be blustery there. (Kudos to the nice woman who helped when the wind blew some stuff off of my cart). I'm giving 4 stars only because it's still new to me. After I've been there a bit I'll update it. read more

The guy at the front desk who works mornings is super nice. The location has a secure parking lot that fits 6 cars. I recommend if you are there to get boxes go in the morning. Because of covid they only allow one customer at a time. Moving boxes are very reasonable, about $3 per med box and $2 for small boxes. read more

I am still here. just finishing packing up my one last box. the elevator is out. the man in the front tells me he can send up the freight elevator to get me and my one box and a blanket. after he deals with the client. I say ok I'll give you plenty of time. I have to climb 7 flights. he gets there before I do, to the 7 th floor. he then tells me to hurry. he can't be waiting. I said ok. why are you rushing me I don't even know where I am and where the freight elevator is. so he closes and leaves. I can hear it close and the motor kick on. I climb all the way down by stairs and I close out. he comes out right then and says I went up for you. when I explained to him how it went down and he didn't need to rush me he got mad and told me to get out! terrible customer service. the lady was very nice closing me out. so she gets a star. the guy with glasses and the smart mouth get a negative 5 stats. last time I checked. I've been paying $425 a month for my storage unit for 18 months now. The unit is too big so in order to save money I went online to find a smaller unit at the same location. Not only were smaller units available, ALL units had lower, "promotional" monthly pricing than what I've been paying. I called the Geary location and asked to have the lower price offered to "new" customers. The response was "that's only for new clients, we do t give existing, loyal clients better pricing!" Being an avid consumer with many social media followers who would be appealed along with me, I said I'd like to speak to his manager. He reluctantly gave me the Public Storage corporate number and said "they'll tell you the same thing!" Which, they DID. So I'll be leaving this hideous company and moving my "stuff" to a nicer, lower priced competitor. I'm writing this review for my friend according to her experience with this Public Storage because she's not the type of person to use Yelp but this is a review that needs to be read. I've helped her move a couple of times and all the times we had to interact with this storage facility. So my friend decided to use this Public Storage facility because it was the closest and easiest one for her to access while in the middle of a moving/relocation crisis. The facility itself isn't so bad but we saw just how rundown the facility became after 2 months of interaction. First off, every single time we went, an elevator was out of order. And elevators in a storage facility are CRUCIAL. Especially the large ones big enough to fit couches, beds, etc. One by one, the elevators would be out of order and yet, the owner NEVER SEEMED TO FIX THEM. By the end, on the day she finally moved all of her stuff out, there was only ONE working elevator, and it was a small passenger elevator. BOTH large cargo elevators were out of order. What made things worse as the owner's rude behavior when he told my friend that the only working elevator was the small one in the back and that she was only allowed to pack TWO BOXES at a time in that elevator because it was old and couldn't handle that much weight. BULLSHIT. There is a elevator operating license in the elevator (which was already 2 months expired) stating that while the elevator was small, it could handle up to 2000 pounds. TWO BOXES AT A TIME? Please. And when my friend protested that his demands were ridiculous, he stated that she was "giving him attitude" and threatened to charge her a full month's rental (she was moving out on the 14th of the month). When she tried to enter the code to gain access in and out of the facility, it didn't work and she had to ask the same owner to help. He replied, "Well, if you didn't give me attitude maybe I'd make your code work." WHAT THE HELL?!?! I always see this storage facility since it's the main one on the top of the "hill" on Geary, but I never knew it was such a crappy place. I'm never storing my stuff there, nor am I recommending any of my friends to go there. The owner is a liar and extremely rude for no reason. And he doesn't seem to care to keep his facility in proper working condition. Luckily my friend didn't have anything too large to move, but I can imagine people with large couches, beds etc, having a hard time navigating that "two-boxes-at-a-time" passenger elevator. I concur COMPLETELY with the other two negative reviews. I had a storage unit there for a year+. They make billing errors constantly and accessing your locker is a true nightmare. When they are working (important qualification) there are two freight elevators - one that is easy to operate and one that is very difficult to operate (doesn't stop evenly between floors with no painted line or hint as to how to choose the right place to open the doors). The one that is easy to operate is always monopolized by other customers. When someone's using it you have to wait for them to be completely done and return with the one good elevator. Last winter when I was moving and trying to empty my locker, EVERY time I went there BOTH elevators were out of order - for WEEKS. I couldn't believe it. This is a simple business model based on providing storage lockers and providing access to storage lockers. Public Storage on Geary is only offering one HALF of the business model. The male half of the couple who run the place is very grumpy and likes to chase people around when he's there yelling at them for leaving doors open or shutting the elevator gate too hard. He proudly states that he used to be a security guard. I think he misses it. Parting comment: the office (in which you have to stand for a very long time to close out of your account) smells like a huge litter box. read more

I rented a truck from this place. worst customer service i've had in the city, for anything, even compared to bus drivers. these people are extremely condescending, and only add to the stress of moving. i made a reservation for 5pm, and upon arriving, they told me that i should have been there no later than noon to pick up trucks? interesting since you allowed me to reserve it for 5pm? they were just rude, and argumentative, and tried to intimidate me into getting the useless insurance which when you read 5 pages of fine print doesn't save you from the extra damages they will try to charge you. stay away. uhaul may be slow and clumsy, but they are way more legit. read more

Their hours are terrible. I've never used a storage space with worse hours. They are basically open only during work hours, making any interaction here super inconvenient. If I had a choice I would never keep anything here. Employees are minimum wage helpful. Don't expect to see a smile. Update 12/29 My business still hasn't moved their storage and this place is still the worst. Elevator doesn't work half the time I'm here and there never are any signs about it. This storage unit says it goes by "market rate" and I feel this use this term to take advantage of customers. After 4 years of having a storage unit at this location, our unit has gone from $300 to $495 a month! It's more expensive than our car lease. When we contacted them and asked if we can move out in June 2 (we weren't able to be there before May 31), they told us we couldn't be prorated and would still be charged the full $495 for the month. On top of this, for $495, there is very little security as this location. There are just security cameras at the entrance, there are NO security cameras on any other floors of this building. I was worried when I read these hideous reviews, but I went with a colleague in person and was delighted by what we saw. This Public Storage has excellent customer service. Pamela in the office is extremely efficient, thorough and professional. There are multiple hand trucks for use, both elevators work, the location is very clean and every unit we saw was perfect. None of the issue raised before apply today from what we have experienced thus far. I wouldn't trust the old reviews written from 2006-2009. We almost didn't rent there because of them. Today's management is top, and it's an incredibly convenient location for anyone on the north side of town. read more

Pamela is the quintessential customer service provider and exhibited every quality I'd want in someone conducting such a role. She remained cool, calm and collected with an obviously stressed, mid-move individual (me). When seeing a box break midair, she quickly found a box she "could not sell" and have conveniently been marked out of inventory along just enough packing tape to cover my troubles. She assured me through every detail and made the process incredibly efficient and easy, removed all emotion from the situation and facilitated an overall excellent experience. The only reason this is not a 5-star is due to the cost - not having a $1 move-in special making the unit exorbitantly higher; but for convenience sake, my options were limited. I've been charged $209.00 for a 6X5 on the top of the 4X4 which I pay another $150.00, for an unacceptable condition storage. The walls covered with something I won't step on it if I see it on the street. But just because I was in need, I accepted, which was a mistake on my part. However, my plans changed, and I won't move in the $209.00 priced space. I called to cancel expecting a refund, only to find out that the first thirty days are not refundable. The pricing for the service they provide is way too-too-too high. Explore your options before you close with Public Storage. read more

Super unprofessional and discriminatory. They didn't want to rent to me and so they lied and said I had an abandoned storage unit in the East Bay (I have been in my apartment for nearly 2 years, and living in SF for almost 3 years before that so not sure why I would even NEED a storage unit, but I digress). I take care of my credit & never saw anything like this on it and I'm not sure how anyone was able to rent in my name, but it will resolve. My partner went to get a unit instead while we figure out what is going on- and they said they couldn't legally rent to him because he knows me! WTF is that about!? The gentlement at the front desk put on the "I'm afraid" disposition and so my partner left because we all know what happens when those type of people start getting "scared" or call the police of something. Anyway- they wound up telling him I wasn't even allowed ON THE PROPERTY, which I thought was extreme and drastic for something that is false. The entire time I got the feeling that if we weren't black they would've accepted the fact that someone may have breached my identity or gotten access (If there's even anything there- I truly in my heart feel he made the entire ordeal up), which is sad and also alarming. I've never interacted with Public Storage prior to this and thanks to this disgusting experience I never plan to again- Head over to Storage Pro instead if you are in need of a unit. Super clean, fair, honest, non-prejudice and with good customer service. Plenty of people told me not to go with PS, but I always give the benefit of the doubt and now I see why. I hope creatures like the goblin at the desk today start to leave The Bay Area and go back to the caves they've crawled out of. What a neanderthal. Went in to buy boxes for a move, so this review is not for the storage facilities. They have boxes in all sizes and bubble wrap and tape. Pam and Bill were super friendly and helpful; I had to buy quite a few boxes and they offered to wrap them up so it was easier for me to hold. I figured I'd just open one box and put all my supplies in and they were kind enough to let me use their tape. They then opened the main door and sent me on my way. Fast, efficient and friendly. Minus one star 'cause the boxes weren't great quality; a slight bump would tear a huge hole. read more

It has be over two years since I wrote a review on yelp but I feel I need to warn my fellow residents away from this place. I'm going to try to make this short but read the reviews below for more detail. 1) Freight elevators don't work usually. 2) If one happens to work, you have to be there during OFFICE hours which means if you have a day job give up, since they are only open until 6pm (they have short weekend office hours too). 3) One tiny elevator that allows "no freight" which everyone is try to use at the same time so... 4) Stairs is how we had to move our stuff up this 8 story facility. They are wet and slippery, so be careful. 5) When you show up to sign rent the space they you know you need a lock NOW or you can't rent, which they don't mention over the phone. Fortunately for you have overpriced locks for sale right there! (bring your own lock) 6) You MUST buy insurance (unless you mention you have renters insurance - no proof needed). This also is not quoted in the price over the phone. 7) Office hours do not mean business hours to them. SO you can access you unit during certain hours but you can't for example... 8) use any dollys except during their limited office hours (they are locked to the wall by their handles, you can't pull the handles off and still use them minus the handles during non office hours). 9) You don't have to complain about truck rentals anymore because they no longer offer that service. 10) I really done with this list but I can't stand this place so much I just want to continue to emphasize you should look else where. read more

If I could write less than a 1 or negative, I would. When I closed my storage unit the "Computers were down" so they couldn't give me a written receipt that I had closed my unit. I took their word for it. BIG MISTAKE. I received two notices that I owed them that months' rent on the very same day - called to leave a message explaining the situation, no call back. Finally on my third attempt I got the woman manager to pick up - she said she had called her manager and not to worry about it. All of a sudden I have received 30 calls from a credit agency over the last 3 days. MY CREDIT IS BEING AFFECTED for a bill that I DO NOT OWE. Do NOT use this company for storage, I cannot stress this enough. Not only are the two managers at the property totally inefficient ( it took me like 30 minutes just to get the paperwork taken care of) there is a creepy hunchback lady that is there lurking around every single time you go get something from your unit. I narrowly missed disaster, it seems. I went here to rent a storage space because it was the closest I could find to my apartment. I went on a Saturday and filled out the paperwork, so that at my appointment two days later, I could just come in, sign, and be done. I would be coming straight from work, and wanted to make the process as painless as possible. I was shown spaces of different sizes on this day, and both still contained other people's belongings--very shady. AND the freight elevator didn't work. Of course I wouldn't have known because I was not taking any space that day, and travelled via the people elevator, but my "host" mentioned it of his own accord. All said, I was told if I came back by 6:00 Monday I'd be fine. I left work early Monday and hussled over there, arriving 2 minutes to 6:00. The office door was locked. I knocked, no answer. I went to a second door where I could look through the locked sliding door and see an attendant still seated at the counter. She looked up and saw me knocking and waving, and then HID HER FACE BEHIND THE COUNTER. Seriously. And I am a totally non-scary-looking female. And it was daylight. And she played ostrich. So I went back to the first door, knocked again, knocked on the private door adjacent, which was answered by a different woman who cracked the door open about six inches, told me I had no appointment, and that I'd have to call to make one and then SHUT THE DOOR IN MY FACE. I was desparate enough to google them so I could get their phone number and try again--but this site came up. I'm glad, because it could have gotten much worse. And moving generally sucks as it is--who needs this? read more

I think that this storage facility is getting a bad rap based on past reviews or has genuinely improved recently. I was moving up from LA and just put a load of stuff into storage here and the staff was super helpful, both freight elevators worked as advertised, and I would certainly recommend the spot if you need storage. You do have to pay attention to the hours as the freight elevators only operate during office hours (different than the gate hours), but this was very clearly explained to me when I signed and I just worked around it. read more

Been here, this morning, since 7am with 3 other customers. All of which our personal access codes don't allow us to enter the premises. This has happened to me three times on separate occasions. No one will be here until 930, at which time the majority of us working people will be at work. Bathroom has been 'out of order' since I've stored here. Just closed out my space after over a year of fantastic service. I almost didn't want to leave but finally found a permanent living situation with room enough to absorb "my stuff". During the interim, I discovered that this is a wonderful place to secure things in an equitable and pleasant way. The relatively new management has really been a delight. Always greeted with smiles, humor and the BEST customer service EVER. If you're in the area and need a place to keep 'your stuff' in a secure and accessible spot, I highly recommend Public Storage on Geary Blvd. and Masonic in San Francisco.
