I've been meaning to write my review for Attic Self Storage for about 2 weeks now. I may be wrong, but I think I was present when a nasty client/customer was there (L.A. in the reviews). She was there with a male helper and was so obnoxious. Definitely a self-entitled one. She was saying how she was an important figure, but didn't act like it. Was asking for the guys behind the window to move mountains to cater to her. They maintained professionalism and composure for sure. Give them so much credit for that. Anyhow onto my review of this business, They are very friendy and professional. They were very helpful and answered all of my questions. Avoid here: We were arriving , the bays were blocked by cars. Asked the "attendant" where the unloading dock was and he instructed us to work around them that "no one else has a problem with that". Well, that was first thing. We asked why he was talking to us in such a way that felt angry and a woman next to the desk said we were being aggressive. Then, yep more cray cray experiences here. We start to unload, reluctantly. Wondering if we were even safe here and a toothless black 60ish yo woman in youth fashioned clothes approached us asking if we had any clothes to donate. I said no. She uttered some disturbed phrases and turns around and walks into the facility. We then made a pow wow to consider some place safe to store. Which we did find. I was not comfortable at all. We left. There was also a homeless guy in his car, naked right next to the loading bay we were at and never did any of the three attendants ask him to move from the site. They had no trash cans and when asked they said I was stepping into their space. I am a long time resident and a highly successful business owner in the City and I warn everyone to avoid rentals here. It is not run with decency. I felt afraid to leave my things under their care, period. Good luck! read more

At first the guy behind the counter literally threw the contract at me. I was startled and started to wonder whether I had made a mistake renting here. But as it turned out, it was cool. He's just careless about first impressions and interactions were fairly smooth after that. This place doesn't look great. It's not new. It has an alcatraz feel to it. But it really does provide me good value and a decent storage unit. You'll appreciate that there's has a real loading dock, and carts and dollies on loan that are bigger, have more capacity, and are more stable than what you might already own. I didn't use their carts because I didn't know about them. Now we both know. I think it's possible that this business is actually serious about good value, fair practices, and decency, in which case its an outlier in the marketplace. read more

I have had a storage space at Attic for more than 10 years. Last week, I accidently paid online for many more months than I meant to. I called Matt in a panic and he was SO kind. He called his boss Steve and they took time out of their days to fix everything. The space itself is great, but the service is why I stay. Thanks very much, guys! Tried a few storage places around SF. The staff here are really helpful and the individual alarm system is piece of mind against theft. Opening hours could be a little later but that's minor compared to issues I found at other places (people living in units, staff locking units without notification to customers). read more

Best self-storage unit!! Clean facility, huge freight elevator, lots of moving dolleys and most importantly ample parking around, outside, and inside the building. (I usually pull my mini-SUV inside the building to unload/load up my car. The dolleys and the elevators are right next to the parking spaces inside. Also, for those who care, I did a lot of research on storage facilities before I made my choice and the building was built back in the day and was not damaged at all in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. read more

My partner came in yesterday to inquire about renting a space and told me the owner was extremely nice but that I would have to come by the next day to fulfill the rental. I showed up today a little before 4 and the owner was extremely nice as I expected. He told me he would show me the unit and then... For reasons I don't understand, he began accusing my partner of not telling me that rentals don't start after 4pm. When I pointed out that it wasn't 4pm yet he told me that all the clocks were wrong and that I would have to come in another day. I showed him my phone with the time and he said "that's very good for you!" and waved me out condescendingly. No store owner should ever treat anyone like that the other customers present were just stunned and silent. I walked down the street to Extra Space where I was told a number of customers have experienced that at Attic. read more

I stored my belonging here for about 3 yrs while I was traveling around the world on business. Occasionally back for short bouts to visit SF again, and would stop by to exchange my wardrobe depending on the weather. Every point of dealing with this family run small business was a pleasure. They were helpful from beginning to end. I support small, local business for many reasons. One of the big reasons is that they are usually run more personably and offer better service overall. This place is no exception. I'm back for a long while now, and have a home in which to keep my belongings for the time being. But should I ever need storage again, I wouldn't hesitate to use these guys n gals once more. I highly recommend them. read more

I had 40 pounds of confidential papers to shred, and I called Shred Works to ask about the SF store in Attic Storage. The price is right: $20 for up to 3 bankers boxes. I had the equivalent of two boxes, and the woman at the counter apologized that she had to charge me the minimum. A gentleman carried the second box from the car for me. I paid, then realized there was a Yelp offer, and the pair running the shop canceled my credit purchase and gave me the discount. They were super nice and professional. read more

I should have written this review YEARS ago. Attic Self Storage is an A+++ business!!! We've been their customers since 1987 and have had zero complaints the entire time. They're always open during their posted business hours, 7 days a week. I've been around when a customer was having a screaming meltdown over their unpaid bill and the staff STILL remained calm and polite. read more

Decent place, mostly decent people, one guy is really awful (management: can you guess who?). I had an incident where I was at my storage unit around closing time. At 5:29 (they closed at 5:30), I went upstairs to grab a dolly and carry my final piece of cargo out, to leave. When I got upstairs, the bald man at the front was literally SCREAMING at me. Like a child!! Like, high-pitched whiny man yell. (Seriously, *temper tantrum-grade fit*) He was screaming that 'I had to leave!', 'Get out!', and 'I should just leave my all stuff out in the hallway and the door to my unit unlocked!' (wtf, really?) and to 'return at 8AM!'. By then, it was *literally* 5:30 on the dot. (At the time, I wouldn't have even doubted this guy was crazy enough to even call the cops on me. One more reminder: it was literally 5:30PM.) He ended up grabbing the dolly from me, refusing to let me use it. Well, wtf man, I have a huge AC unit sitting in the hallway right now. Let's use *some* reasonableness here... So I had to go downstairs and let my friend know we had to go stat and we had to hand carry our huge, back-breaking cargo, all because the man at the front was having a hissyfit that it was 5:30 (literally, mind you) and we were still in the building. By time we carried the cargo all the way out from the downstairs, loaded it in our car, and were driving through the gate, the time on my iPhone was ***5:33PM***. On the way out, I pointed out that, for all the screaming + crying he did, it was 5:33PM and it would be better customer service to, perhaps, lighten up a bit. He yelled at me 'follow the rules or move out!'. Guess that's how they appreciate their longtime customers? (I've been pleasantly using them for a year... I've seen this guy, he knows who I am, and all has otherwise been good, before this.) So yeah, really fucking awful customer service. I went with a friend to pick up some stuff she's borrowing at 230pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving only to find THE WHOLE PLACE CLOSED & LOCKED UP. I checked their website but it says nothing about any changes to their hours for the holiday. NOTHING!! Seems like their employees decided they could lock up and leave a few hours early for some free time off with pay and no one would be the wiser. I've had my locker there for over ten years and it's been an uneventful ten years. But this is just not acceptable. I selected Attic Storage because of it's convenient location. The office staff, Steve, Alan and the weekend crew are all friendly and helpful. Because I don't check my mail on a daily basis, on one occasion, Steve called to let me know a perishable gift had arrived. I use my mailbox address as my permanent address on my driver's license and all important documents, which gives me a feeling of safety in a "big city," and freedom from worry that a package might be stolen after delivery. read more

I've rented from Attic twice, and both times was very happy with the facilities, cost, employees etc. BUT!!! I recently referred a friend who stored wood furniture (some of which was once mine), and upon taking it out of storage after 5 months or so found wood beetles had found their way into the furniture. Even more unfortunate was the fact that my friend was blamed for the infestation, called a liar for saying the goods had been free of bugs when stored, accused of storing food in the unit (which he hadn't, and which wood beetles do not eat), and was refused a fair reimbursement for the damage. I myself, and our previous landlords, can testify that we didn't bring the bugs in; they must've been in someone else's furniture (perhaps the previous tenants of that unit?). I spoke to the employee there that I've had a great relationshipi with for years, but she even said she believed it was our doing. My friend is still in negotiation with Attic. I'm frustrated and insulted by this experience, as the furniture is monetarily, sentimentally, and functionally valuable, and I would've expected Attic to have handled this situation more fairly and respectfully. If anyone else has had a similar story, please do share information as I would like to help resolve this in the best of fashions and the best of spirits for everyone involved. Thanks! read more

Badly infested or populated with a lot of mice which its management has not been able or seems unwilling to pay the necessary expense to eradicate. This horrible problem has existed for about 8 months and it is a problem today. They have made nests in my unit and they have been in other units as I have seen them running in and out of other people's storage units, and I heard a woman screeched a few days ago when she saw one. Mice droppings are all over my storage stuff and their urine is on a lot of my things, which has ruined some of my possessions. I have been renting from Attic Self-Storage for 45 years. There has never been an issue of any kind in all these years and I have NEVER had a complaint of any kind. They have been extremely helpful on the many times I have had a problem regarding storage issues that had nothing to do with rental fees (tools needed for storage shelves, etc.). They have always been courteous & patient regarding ANY problem I may have had. I recommend them highly with no reservations. Their hours are very consistent; I have never had to wait past the posted opening time to get to my storage unit. I have only thanks & praise for them. read more

I'm a professional mover, so I know a fair share about storage facilities & these guys make it easy. If you hire a moving company to take your stuff to storage & want to save money, go with these guys. They have a loading dock you can pull right into & parking for customers. I have rented 2 storage units from this business for the past 3+ years. I gave notice to vacate , and was told by Steve that I would have until the 15th of March to remove all stored items, and that my auto pay on my credit card would not be charged again. The 15th of March, 2015 fell on a Sunday. I asked Steve, at Attic, if I could possibly have until 1 pm on Monday, the 16th of March, to remove my belongings. I was told "no problem". My guys were out before 1 pm, and the units were left in excellent condition. However, my credit card was charged $121.00, the next billing cycle. When I inquired of Steve the reason for this, I was given such a run-around, that I could not decifer what his point was. Huge disappointment! I was a great customer for 3+ years.
