Well, what can I say? Some HELPFUL soul goes into my unit and leaves 6-8 sticky mousetrap things all over the place. NOT ME. But there they are, EVERY TIME I visit it. Someone also stuck a nice sticker on a wall, and when i rented it, it was clean, but anyhow it's a nice " lady of the evening" reference. All this I find sad and unprofessional, but I have to continue due to location. I speak just for myself. You might not find any of those kinds of mysterious occurrences bothersome. read more

A really horrible place my stuff was eaten by rats a week after I move there I was never compensated for my loss and my storage was sold from under me after being lied to by everyone involved. I was told it is Store at your own risk so if you're into rats rat pro is your place. Would NEVER USE OR RECOMMEND THIS HELL HOLE ,NASTY RAT INFESTED EXCUSE FOR A STORAGE UNIT. just spoke with management and was given the run around again. The elevator is usually broken. I am up on the 6th floor. Its like being locked out of my storage. And it doesn't seem like they're doing anything about the elevator problem. But they had the nerve to call me up and ask me to pay my rent when I still had about 7 days left to do it. They need to worry about that elevator and quit nit picking at customers. read more

This place has the best P.O. Box mail service but they are being over run by the people on the street. The situation is just plain horrible Somedays the entire entrance way us blocked. Really bad. Shopped around and thought it was a relatively good deal, but they close super early so forget it if you actually have a job. In fact it's 15 min before the posted closing time or the rude staff will threaten to charge you a fee. Elevator is super jenky if you have big stuff. This place is a rip-off. Two weeks ago, I went in to pay for my space and PO Box but he couldn't take my payment because his computer was down. So he (Blair) said don't worry, just pay it next week. When I went in next, there was another guy there who charged me $10 late fee, then when I disputed it, he said he couldn't take it off. Today I went in to clean out my space, the only thing i had that wouldn't fit in my car was a chest I bought for $50. I took it out to the street and gave it to a guy who sells DVD and CDs on the street. This Turk and Hyde where people are always selling stuff. I go to check out and this guy Blair, (I think he was severely hungover, twice when I went in in the morning he smelled so strong of alcohol, it almost knocked me over.) said i got bad news, I have to charge you $50 for violating the dumping clause! I thought he was kidding but it turns out the clown wasn't kidding. At first I was nice and offered to move the chest away from "his" building but that wasn't good enough for the jerk. Anyway, I am just glad I am done with that place and the Tenderloin, I will just get a PO Box somewhere else and let them try to sue me for the $50. If I wasn't so busy, I would take them to small claims. read more

I did a lot of storage unit research in the SF area, and found the best price and great customer service at Fort Knox. The facility is on the edge of a not-so-great neighborhood, but I've seen worse. However, once inside the covered parking area, the whole place is very clean and organized. Shanelle was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and personable. read more

I have just rented my storage unit. So far I am very pleased with the service and The guy in charge, Blair, is amazingly friendly and patient and accommodating. I shopped around for the best deal I could find and Blair made sure to give me the most affordable deal that I could not refuse. The neighborhood is shitty, but your not living there! just your stuff is. The Units and the facility seems clean. The doors don't seem as sturdy as the metal garage door like gates some chain storage facilities have, but It seems like they keep an eye on the place. I think it is the most convenient location for all us art students in the tender-nob area. I hope not to have any issues with the well being of my belongings and will be sure to post again when my stay there is through. read more

We came in to rent a storage space on Thursday and the two front desk employees Kevin and marquise were friendly and helpful with looking for the right size unit. They are extremely knowledgeable on what size was needed for our belongs. They took an extra step on showing us multiple units on different floors to see which floor we prefer. We haven't encounter such customer service for a while in the Bay Area. And to top it off with a cherry on top when we were leaving the facilities indoor parking the maintenance gentleman Paul clear the way for us to exit our car to the street!!! At first, it seems alright. Pretty good prices; central location; nice enough staff. Gross neighborhood, but whatever, that's why the price is right. But it's too good to be true. 1. They gave away my stuff to a homeless guy, admitted they did it, but then refused to cover it under their "protection policy." 2. There are people who live in their units. I accessed my unit a few times toward closing time; there were a number of people always there with what seemed like no intention of leaving. They would take up much of the hallway with their junk, making it hard to get around. One time this resulted in my leaving a rug outside of the unit. This incident speaks to StoragePro and Fort Knox's policies as a whole, so I will recount all of it: Because there was so much junk in the hallway and I had to leave before closing time (unlike other people apparently), I didn't see that a rug was still left out. I returned a few days later and the manager told me they had given the rug away to a homeless person. They knew the rug was mine, but they didn't call me or warn me before they gave it away. I protested. They have a "protection policy" for damage to your property (basically an insurance policy). I filed a claim under it. I didn't hear back for a while. It was denied but there was a possibility for it to be reconsidered. I provided more information and I was told they would certainly look at it again. I would check in every few weeks to ask if they had reconsidered it. I received numerous e-mails saying they would soon look at it again and they hoped for a "favorable" ruling. This went on for over SIX MONTHS, without them making a ruling, which leads me to believe they've just been leading me on. I'm sure you can find a more reputable storage place in San Francisco somewhere. read more

This is not a bad place to store your stuff. There's risk at ANY facility you store at. Public Storage has multiple break-ins a month and still isn't concerned with upping security to combat that problem. I've been using storage here for 18 months and have never had a problem or seen a problem while I was at the facility. The staff is super friendly and helpful. At other places, people are rude and don't seem to care about you and your stuff. If you're in the neighborhood, go ahead and store here. There's nothing wrong with it PLUS it's super convenient. read more

This is an awesome storage space. I know what you're thinking - tenderloin, kinda sketchy neighborhood...so this place could go one of two ways. Either it would be a dump, or they would need to maintain order so that it doesn't descend into chaos. Happily, it is the latter. The place is immaculate. You could eat off the floor. Yes, there are poor people who keep stuff there. I can't vouch for what the INSIDES of some of the storage units look like. But everyone I encounter is nice, and I have always felt perfectly safe. Chanel and Malcolm couldn't be more helpful, or more polite, or nicer. They recognize me. They are always willing to help. They go out of their way to make things easy. Each time I go I am amazed that I get a clean and wonderful and secure storage facility for a fair price right in the middle of the city. I've been a customer for nearly 18 months, and am thrilled. read more

This review is long overdue, but I just wanted to give these guys 5 stars, because I had a great experience at Fort Knox. I stored my stuff at Fort Knox for about a year, and got one of the smaller units, which was about 4'x4'. The ceilings are really high, which is nice, so you can stack your stuff up really high and get a lot in there. The doors to the units are pretty sturdy and secure. At first I was hesitant to store my stuff here because of the bad neighborhood, but as the rental rates were really well priced, I decided to go for it. You can look all the prices up, but for sure this place is really competitive on price. What I found when I moved in was, you can drive your car into their interior parking lot, which is far from the street, and do your loading and unloading. I felt very safe. Also, the building is really clean, practically pristine, all the way from the interior parking lot to the top floor. Very nice. The lady who works there, I think her name is Charise or something like that, was always really polite. A couple of times I forgot to pay rent on time, and she was really nice about it. Also, when I was moving out because I was moving from SF to the south bay, the main elevator wasn't working, so I had to unload using the smaller elevator. The manager was so nice HE ACTUALLY HELPED ME UNLOAD MY STUFF FROM MY UNIT AND PUT IT IN MY CAR!! Wow. You never get customer service like that anymore. What a great guy. Also, rent stayed flat for almost the whole time I was there, and the first rent raise was shortly before I moved and was only an increase of like 3% or something. So definitely a good price for what you get. Overall, great experience with this place and I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

I've been using Fort Knox storage for over a year now and have had absolutely no problems, the location is easily accessible and right downtown San Francisco I live in NYC and feel totally safe with my belongings being left there, I've had problems with other storage facilities in SF like moths, rodent droppings and boxes that have chewed into as a result of rodent infestation, I have not had this problem at FK and this was a big concern when i was looking for a storage unit, I would definitely recommend Fort Knox to anyone that is looking for an affordable downtown Tenderloin location. read more

I have had a mail box at Fort Knox Self Storage since March 1987. Since I work nearby, it is a convenience place to receive my mail. I have had nothing but excellent services. Although the neighborhood is seedy, the employees at Fort Knox Self Storage do an excellent job of providing professional services and seeing that your mail or storage items are safe and secure. read more

I have been a customer of Fort Knox since 1994 and most of the time the service is good. Most recent Managers like STACY was good but burned out. Blair colorful but incompetent. MALCOLM the current manager started out very slow but has developed into quite a good manager with the help of DM Vill who generally is available one day a week in the office to listen to your comments. Only criticisms I have is that the hours on Saturday should be at least till 5:00 P.M. rather than 4:00 P.M. and customers who remain year in and year out should be given a break on the rent one month of the year perhaps anniversary month in the amount of 25 to 35% to recognize their loyalty. read more

I have been renting a storage space at Fort Knox for the past eight years -- first a very small space, then a double-sized unit. I've been very satisfied with the facility, the staff and the hours, and will probaby remain a customer for years to come. One drawback is that there are occasional sociopaths who hang around my floor with all their stuff in the hallway, talking to themselves, which can be a little scary for some people. Also, be sure to keep careful records of your payments, because a couple of times the staff accidentally tried to overcharge me. Since then, I have been asking them to sign documents to prove that I had already paid up to a certain date. Their computerized record-keeping is sometimes questionable, but they always give me the benefit of the doubt when I later show these signed documents. The place has become less convenient in the past year or so, since Fort Knox instituted a new policy of allowing customers to visit their spaces for only 30 minutes, twice a day. This is intended to discourage homeless people from staying all day, but makes it difficult for regular people to reorganize their spaces. Also the price keeps going up far more than the rate of inflation. It recently rose by 6% in one year, while wages remain stagnant. So I would have to give it a slightly lower rating than before. read more
