When I brought my storage items here originally, there was a person at the desk and security was high. The prices were reasonable. After renting there for a while, my rent more than doubled in a year. The person at the desk was replaced by a kiosk and sometimes I went and the security gate was wide open. My rent was about to be doubled again so I found another place to move to and I quickly moved my storage items to the other place. My unit was broken into twice in a year. One time, the thieves cut my locks and put their own on. I reported it to Public Storage and the employee told me that I would have to pay for their locksnith, who would be able to get there sometime in the next few weeks. I ended up calling the police to put the report in and they helped me cut the locks. When the police arrived about the report for the insurance company, they told me they had been out doing reports regularly over the past year. The hasp on the door was broken twice and I was told that it would be replaced the following month. I could leave my key to the lock with the business down the block and they would get to it as soon as they could, but it would be at least a month, unsecured. Very expensive and very insecure. Store your belongings elsewhere. read more

Terrible service. Impossible to talk to someone by phone or in person so nothing gets resolved. And rates do increase dramatically.

First time renting a storage unit, chose this location because it's near the city with out SF prices. Signing up was super easy, all through the website and everything was very easy to follow to the point that I was loading up the storage unit immediately after signing up. Their customer support is now a kiosk that has you zoom with someone and they answered my questions about first time access (the lock and keys) really easily. Finding the unit was easy and my favorite part is the fact that the gate is opened and closed through the app making it so much nicer read more

The property manager did not return call. The office is there but no one in it. A lot of people coming by but door locked. The phone for this location no call back. Trying to return a lock I did not used. Yes, only been in the storage unit like 3days. Trying to get a hold of someone is insane. Been sitting in front of this office at 160 South Storage. And I called to cancel out the rental storage and no email sent confirming I did terminate. Again playing phone tag and speaking to a non in person human. read more

Joe is amazing!! Super friendly very diligent in keeping everything secure and our belongings safe!! Highly recommended.. you're the man Joe!! read more

Its fine. Its a cheap storage facility and holds my stuff securely while I'm not there. However the predatory pricing is concerning. Within a couple month of storage I was notified of my first price increase. And it kept increasing. Within 18 months I was paying more than double what I had signed up for. All the while they are advertising an online rate that I used to have, but apparently am not eligible for. I cannot recommend this facility. Hopefully this isn't an industry wide problem and there are still some honest people in the storage unit business. read more

Service sucks. Couldn't get email address that works. I couldn't cancel my service. Place was emptied and cleaned, and scheduled date leaving the place, last month. They still want me to pay when the place have been vacated for more than 3 weeks. The price increase is rediculous. It doubled in 6 months then increased after a year. The schedule to close is 6 pm. I get email that I should be out of the premises by before 5 pm. I was out by 4:45 pm. I'm still on violation. I was never given a tour, just given instructions to where to go. It's dark in the building, no lights in the storage. I was not happy at all with the experience. I should have listened to people that gave me advise, bad idea. My son also had a bad experience. There storage was broken in and there stuff got stolen, the weird incident was a whole was created from the next storage room, and that's how they got in. When my son discovered what had happened, they admitted it because the hole on the wall was just fixed. They didn't even inform him that it happened. Just accidentally saw the wall was recently patched. Never again. read more

Was told that I would be prorated on the move-out just like I was on the move-in. However, even though I moved out on the 2nd they still charged the full month's rent amount and will not provide a prorated refund. While I was moving in, the gentleman servicing the units let me know that he found a homeless person that that broke in and was sleeping in one of the units. Not sure how secure it really is. Aside from the convenient remote access to the property/units, this was a poor experience. I would recommend finding somewhere else to store your stuff. read more

I stored items in this location for a year. My unit was broken into twice and items stolen both times. The location did not provide any assistance regarding trying to determine who is breaking into the units. The second time the individual broke into my unit, put their own lock on my unit and I was told I had to cut the lock myself. When I cut the lock I found items from the person who had broken in, in my unit. read more

Got broken into twice. Now this place has no one staffing location. Machine not readily available. Hv to go down street to make payment. They keep saying they're renovating the place but s ema like that's been going on for two years read more

Farhana is a helpful and wonderful customer service agent. She helped me with the promo deal to obtain a storage unit. During the check in she explained pad locks, security and some stories about people trying to do shady things in the storage units. I bought a lock from Lowe's that didn't work and already loaded the unit. She secured my unit as I ran home to get my other lock. I do recommend this place just bring the appropriate lock! read more

You'd think a company with with thousands of storage units would know how to get a door fixed. You'd be wrong. When I moved in April 2020 the door was a little funky and was obviously coming loose from the wall. Eight months later after countless reminders at the office and conversations the district manger, the problem is worse and no solution is in sight. The door only opens half way and I have to stand on the handle to make it close. Apparently that is satisfactory to Public Storage. To add insult to injury, they have now changed the lock without providing me with access. That was to let the contractor in two weeks ago. Where is the contractor? Nobody knows. But have no fear! Public Storage does know how to withdraw the rent payment from my checking account exactly on schedule. Whether they can provide access to the storage space or not. read more

My unit was broken in to. It just so happened that my husband and I were going to drop some stuff off at our unit when coincidentally we were approached by an individual who was called to "secure the door" and might "come tomorrow" to fix it. We DID NOT RECEIVE NO CALL that our unit was broken in to, but find it very interesting that coincidentally we go today and this guy was called to "seal it". All our clothes and shoes were stollen, along with various kitchen supplies including a juicer. When we went to the front desk to complain that they could have and should have called us to let us know our unit was broken into, the young lady claimed she called to let my husband know but the phone was "busy"... wow! I literally checked his phone and voicemails - NOTHING!!! Ever heard of leaving a voicemail? Or calling again? NOPE BECAUSE NO CALL WAS MADE!!! we made a police report called the property manager numerous times and he did not return our call but was able to call the front desk lady to let her know he would call us later "maybe tomorrow" like she said since it's end of day. THINK TWICE BEFORE RENTING A UNIT HERE!!! we asked if we could see the camera footage and the front desk lady said "you need permission from the general manager". So annoying but given I do work in legal, I will not let this stay as is. read more

Public Storage - Unit burglarized - Self Storage Near Me - So San Francisco, California

This is the worst place to store your things. They have had over a dozen break ins over the past few months. Their security system is a joke, and if you do become a victim of burglary while your belongings are stored with them, their insurance company makes the experience worse by having tons of hoops to jump through to get your claims resolved. They are unresponsive and robotic. If you have other options then do not rent from public storage. Your property is safer somewhere else. read more

Can't decide on this one. They have misleading offers online. No lighting in the units (see Walnut Creek location for an example with AMPLE lighing). No "customer loyalty" breaks. (Some of this is location based criticism, some is system-wide). There have been at least 3 occasions where the manager here has had to apologize for "how things are" - even though he "agrees with my point-of-view"... etc., etc. The main "good" here - has been the customer service. read more

Customer service in general for Public Storage is usually pretty good. I've been to several locations and they have always been very pleasant and helpful. Having said that, the location itself is not the best for storing things over a long period of time. This is not one of the cleaner locations that we have used. This is particularly true for all of the bottom floor units. While we expected a bit more dust and critters than we would upstairs, one of our corner units was consistently filthy, infested with bugs and brown recluses and mildew. We had a larger unit (the one that is the size of a garage) and that had the same problems but to a much lesser extent because it was not a corner unit. Overall I would say that the entire first floor always seemed kind of dilapidated with leaks in the hallways, cobwebs, and bugs all in the hallways. If you do rent here I highly suggest getting a second floor unit. It is a pain in the ass to move your things up there but there's no dust, no mildew, and even after months your belongings are clean as if you'd just moved in. We haven't found any critters upstairs either. You won't dread going to your storage locker like we did before we moved. I'd rate higher but having been there for so long it's been disappointing to not see a lot of upkeep of the place. Some of the lights aren't even working properly upstairs and turn off on us all the time (it's pitch black upstairs). I won't mention how PS also raised our rent many times and forced us out of our original locker. Also the moving carts are always getting stolen. So bring your own. read more

I'd rate it a 3. If I ever have to store my furniture and hundreds of scrapbooking supplies, I'd go to this branch. But then again, the thought of my stuff in that cramp, lightless cart with God knows what crawling around scares the sh!t outta me. I've often seen episodes of "The People's Court" with the tenant vs the landlord fighting over who brought the bed bugs in..... I have goosebumps just thinking about it...eeewww!! I guess my sis was really desperate about storing her stuff before her residency. I gave an extra point because their restroom was surprisingly clean. read more

Excellent customer service and fast move-in (same day). I had originally reserved a storage unit down the block at the 160 Spruce location. The manager was very helpful and even referred me to this location (80 Spruce) as they had a deal for $1 first month on a larger unit (!) After having my reservation transferred to this location, i got a call from the manager to set up a move-in appointment, which i scheduled for the same day. Once i got there we were able to finish all the paperwork (lease/insurance documents) within 20 minutes and also move-in immediately. The manager at this location is also very helpful and made sure to explain everything clearly. The facility is clean and not too busy. i feel like my belongings are secure here and would gladly refer my friends & family. P.S. i did not find any evidence of bed bugs here.. read more

**Our unit was burglarized** I am absolutely disappointed in this storage facility. Having "the only key" to your unit PLUS an extra lock means absolutely nothing when someone using a crowbar just pops the doors right out of the flimsy walls. Our unit plus 2 others were completely wiped out by people who had a gate code to enter plus knew the 3hr window in which staff is not present. (During these 3hrs, "customers" with codes are still allowed enter before it locks down for the night.) Once that happens, there's not much that can be done except to file a police report. Placing family items, valuables & property at this location hoping to keep them safe risks losing them forever. I would hate to see anyone else go through headache, stress and sadness of losing their important & cherished items as well. Come to find out, this has not been the only instance of burglary by people with codes & other storage units on the property. What good are surveillance cameras that capture the entire burglary, yet, don't aid in the capture of these criminals? Just so we can watch the process happen again with our own eyes? I wish I had known before. Please do not trust your items to be safe here. Don't take that chance. Unfortunately, our items would've been safer locked up in our backyard chicken coop. At least the chickens would've alerted us and gave us a chance to save everything. It's an absolute shame. read more

First off, the employees at this location are wonderful. But their regional or district manager is horrible. They do not return your calls or emails and will continue to charge you for VACATED units and threaten to lien your credit. I have long since removed my items from this unit and continue to be charged and have told them multiple times I have moved out of the unit and nobody will return my calls yet I am still being billed. Never using public storage again. read more

This place is kept clean, the bathrooms are kept clean, and the security is good. If we have any concerns, Liberato, the manager, is there to help, and goes out of his way to make certain any concerns are addressed. He treats the customers as extended family. It is hard to imagine how there could be a better manager. If there is a problem with the doors, he will do his best to resolve them. We have been at this facility for more than 15 years, and our belongings have been secure because of the care. read more

Unfortunately - sometimes the management of a business can be the downfall of what the employees work so hard to maintain. The employees there are great...unfortunately the management has sent me and hopefully others a really sad message. Make a mistake on the business side and charge the customer for it...'and sorry - I don't know anything about your account; but I can't reverse those charges'. I rented a unit here and was informed that I would get an invoice by e-mail. The invoice never came and the company promptly hit me with a late fee. The invoice came the next month with two months of late fees. I had a great conversation with the employees there and they found the notice had not gone out ...and that I should contact their district manager. Ron informed me that he couldn't do anything and that those are just courtesy notices. Unaffected - he said, they don't have to send out bills. They just send those e-mails as a gesture only. He also suggested that their employees also make a call to their new customers to make sure that this doesn't happen. Funny...It's my personal phone and I never received any calls. So...in a nutshell - I would say the employees are great; but in this economy we're all carefully monitoring our pennies and this is the exact reason not to work with Public Storage...they are setting the stage to charge you fees ...especially if you're a new client! read more

So we decided to rent a space here after a really bad experience with our previous storage place. We were greeted by Laura and right away she was very informative and listened to our needs. The person working in the office is very nice and useful. His name is Liberato, and he explained everything very carefully and was very nice. I recommend him. He does a great job. The only reason why this place is great is because of Melissa. Other than that it sucks. They never call you when there is anything wrong you just find out on your own, nor do they answer the phone unless Melissa is actually there. So I was looking for some moving supplies and walked in to see what was available. The office was limited on items but not customer service. I spoke with Buddy, a super friendly and very informative person. He advised me on prices and also where I could get the other items I needed. I asked about the storages and if I had the extra money on hand I would have gotten one right then and there. When I move I will be returning to rent a storage at this location, no doubt about it. read more

this public storage on 80 spruce so. san francisco come to find out is the worst place ever after i was in there for the $1 a month deal basically an (advertisment catch) after two weeks there i heard of 3 break ins in one night and i was worried but just brushed it off saying to myself "oh its ok there's cameras and ive never been broken into in a professional storage facility " .....two or three days later me and two other units were hit and wiped me out of my life savings majority of personal assets and i was warned by another individual and didn't even expect it was and is still devastating to me what kind of animals could be involed in this and i have heard this is happening on a regular basis here im finding out and i found out this guy that everyone is posting nice things about "liberato" or liberace whatever the name is i hear one of the thieves was being followed by a storge costumer and the suppossedly thief was meeting up with" liberato" wow lol i guess its seems like an inside operation and some....i hear liberato is not there nomore but! the same thing is going on so criminal break-ins are still in motion in the # 80 spruce facility as usual so nothing bis changed ..oh and here this the kid at the front desk tells me that that " we have the theives on video and we seen where they put your and we will get them back for you he.promised "and we put our lock on the unit where the put the items and blocked there entry so i asked to be present when they were gonna open up the storage where my items that were stolen could possibly be "they said no you cant be present" so i came back amd he says none of your items that you writtrn down were in there he said there was only " furniture" lol but yet he seen them on surveillance put items in storage unit and it wasn't furniture lol what a lie! so basically if you want all your stuff stolen put them in #80 so. spruce in ssf oh btw good luck with the insurance as well and they have homeless living in storage units as well. read more
