I had to quickly clear furniture out of my Mother's apartment to make space for her to come home on Hospice. I showed up quite flustered, and the staff here were very kind and accommodating. The storage was on the second floor, and we were able to easily use one of their freight elevators to load everything in at once then meet it upstairs to unload into the unit. I have negative experience at Daly City / Colma Extra Space storage. A lot of rats running between units Manager Jovita Alarcon told me to post 5 star review, when I poster negative, she increased price for my unit second time per year. Really disappointed in their service. They increased my monthly rent by almost $60 without notifying me. I had to find out when my automatic payment alert came on. When it happened last Sunday- I couldn't get a hold of anyone to talk to about this since their offices were closed on Sundays. They have all these promos in the beginning and they lock you in and increase the charges without notifications. After only a few months they start raising the rental charges. Very frustrating. I will have to find a new storage location to rent from since this place increased the monthly charges to an unreasonable amount. read more

I used this storage space throughout my time in college. I wish I could leave this place with a good review but my last experience with them was awful. I went to collect my things and found RAT DROPPINGS throughout the unit and multiple holes in my belongings from RATS chewing through my stuff. If you have to accept the burden of a storage facility unit and if alongside north 280 is useful, then do yourself a favor and talk to Jovita the store manager at 3601 Junipero Serra. Jovita gets 5 stars. But the facility overall loses 1 star due to not providing access to my unit after 10 pm, and because their staff buggy doesn't have a magnet on the bottom to pick up nails and screws and stray metal shards from the ground as they travel around the property. read more

We emptied our storage unit today. Im so glad to be leaving this place. Their outrageous fees continue to rise randomly. After the unit was empty, I went to the office to close my account. I informed the office person that I still had two weeks left and would i be getting a refund. She informed me they don't give refunds! Its all about the money for this establishment. DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE. First off, like others have mentioned, we also found rat droppings in our unit. Luckily, all of our stuff was in plastic containers. But that isn't even the worst of it. After storing our belongings here for months, we went to start emptying our unit out and noticed the people in the unit next to ours had CUT OUT A HUGE PORTION OF THE SHARED WALL to get into our unit. We have no idea how long they had access to our unit. And the very worst part is, admin at Extra Space Storage is doing absolutely nothing to rectify this. They said it is on us to file a police report. They won't even look into who occupied the unit in question. Cherry on top is this apparently isn't the first time it's happened at this location, as mentioned by the office staff. Maybe invest in walls that people can't easily cut through? Especially since this is an ongoing issue. Security is nonexistent. People can easily get in to the complex by following others in through the gate. Needless to say, we'll never do business with them again and will share this information with everyone we know in the area. What a scam. read more

REPOST BECAUSE THEY DELETED MY ORIGINAL POST: This facility is dirty and full of rats. I am trying to move out of my storage unit because they keep raising the price of my SMALL unit so I walked into the business and was hit in the face by the smell of urine. Even worse, there is rat poop all over my stuff (all of my clothes, bedding, shoes, just everywhere). How are you constantly raising the price when you have rats? |had a mental breakdown because this is all of my personal belongings that have sentimental value. I went to the front desk and she gave me one and a half pair of gloves and half full Clorox wipes. I then called the customer service number and the first thing that the lady on the phone made sure to tell me was that they don't celebrate Juneteenth. What does that have to do with my clothes being full of rat poop and why is that the first thing you tell your Black customer? I would avoid this place. TLDR: they bait & switch with the cheap price and the inside reeks of urine. My husband and I did a lot of research on our options when we needed to move some belongings to make room for a new baby in our apartment. We selected Extra Storage Space because it was reasonably priced and had great reviews. It was super easy to set things up and get into our unit. This is where the positive experience ended. The inside of the facility absolutely reeks of urine. I can't stand going in there because it makes me sick. The unit itself is okay - for now - but I'm nervous the stench will seep through and ruin the clothes I have in there. We were able to deal with the smell because of the cheap price... but it turns out that was just a bait and switch tactic. We rented our unit for a total rate of $244 in August and two months later get a notice in the mail that it's going up to $324. That's a 33% increase! I get needing to raise your prices sometimes but why not do it to incoming customers or after a year or something? If we had known it was going to be $80 more we absolutely would have gone someplace else. At this point we're sort of stuck because life is crazy with a new baby and we'd need to pay movers all over again to get our stuff out. Absolute bummer. It all started when my partner and I had to move from college during covid so this storage space framed themselves as affordable yet each month it seem my price has been raised. During a whole pandemic every month I received a letter in the mail for a price change. Taking advantage of college students during a global pandemic and recession is peak capitalism.. this has caused me to ultimately decided to move my belongings out. To my surprise I came to my unit to find it infested with rat poop and with stenches of urine. I cannot fathom how a space that claims to do regular pest and rodent control could be infested with hazardous animal feces. This completely disturbed me and my partner to see our belongs that we paid for covered in poop. We asked for help from the front desk and all they could over was a pair of gloves and dried out Lysol wipes. We even attempted to call the corporate office with no luck. All the call did was make me feel uncomfortable due to the employee emphasizing the company does not observe Juneteenth. This makes me feel even worse as a Black customer that I decided to invest money into this establishment. This experience is unacceptable I pray that this storage facility gets shut down for their neglect. The customer service is bottom tier. Do not spend money here. Do not be fooled. Extra Space Storage offers a low price up front to lure you in, and then jacks up the rate at 3 months. Predatory. I rented a small storage space in Colma for about $85 dollars per month. After 3 months, I received a Rate Change Notice increasing the rent to $148 - a 75% increase. The Notice stated the increase was due to "current market conditions". A 3 month 75% increase in market conditions? Really? Actually, no. The Extra Space Colma website has the same space for $112 and iStorage down the street had one for $82. When I mentioned this to the Extra Space rep in Colma, he agreed to lower my rate to $112. He also made it seem like he was doing me a huge favor. This is my first experience with renting storage (and it will be my last). I wonder. Are all storage companies like this? Or do some of them practice straightforward business practices and treat their customers well? Oh well. Out next month. Good riddance. read more

It is what you'd expect. A basic storage place and nothing special. I gave them 2 stars because my bill has been going up every few months the past year. We recently got a notice stating our bill will increase by $40/month due to market changes. I go online to view costs and my same unit is actually $60/month less now! They hook you in on the deal and gradually increase your rent assuming we would not move out. We out. @publicstorage is down the street and cheaper. My Unit, along with 15 others was robbed. The thieves knew exactly where the cameras were and were not. The staff don't gave a d--n. They wont even credit back the month's rental payment for when it was robbed. They tried to blame my lock--which they (Selma) sold me. If you want a safe place to store your stuff, I suggest you look elsewhere. This place is being hit from the inside. UPDATE 021822: I spoke with their regional manager and guess what, unless you buy their insurance, they won't even credit you back for the month your stuff was stolen. There are better places where they actually care. Sadly, Extra Space Storage only cares about money. read more

Honestly if I could give no stars I would. I have been storing my stuff at this extra space storage unit since 2017 and I've had no issues (except for the ever increasing rent charges) until this week. I came to retrieve an item from my space and found that I could not access my locker because the latch was bent and the paneling to the side was wiggling. It had only one screw left so I contacted the agent on site, Ben. He arrived and was also unable to open the locker. He had to unscrew the last remaining screw and popped the locker open. The paneling detached and lo and behold most of my items in my locker were missing, gone!!! I am extremely pissed they have no cameras, no security measures to secure your stuff. Plus I am noticing also that the lockers around mine also looked like they've been tampered; with either missing screws or screws almost out. But because my locker is an edge it only has one paneling and that was easy to pry open and now I am missing not only sentimental stuff but also stuff I use for my business, which is event planning. Now I have to go through the process of filing a police report and dealing with insurance claims. This is no way you run a business when people are paying to store their stuff in good faith. I am highly disappointed at Extra Space Storage. read more

Be aware that the storage units in the SF Bay area are ~4x or more for a similar unit ~120 miles away. Notwithstanding that, these expensive units often lack basics such as security cameras. read more
