I never thought I would have to use a storage unit. Having hear all the horror stories I was a bit worried about how to find one. Barry gave me a tour of the facility. He was very patient and showed me the different storage unit sizes and gave me advice what would be an appropriate size. It was a never a hard sell. He made me feel very comfortable. There were no hidden fees as everything was posted on the website. Barry even tried to hold my unique storage size for 48 hours. Fantastic customer service! Unit was clean! I like how everyone has their own gate security code. The hours to get into the storage is pretty long 5 am to 8 pm. Its tough when life is giving you curve balls. I just finished storing my stuff here for a little over a year, and frankly I'm blown away by the amount of positive experiences and run ins I've had with staff here. The kindness of the people that operate and staff this place is genuine and really appreciated. On a few occasions they lent me a ladder and even let me stay past closing to dig through my stuff to find a particular photo we needed (in the very last box, of course). Oh and when I lost my job during covid they helped me out with a break until I got back on my feet! If I ever need a storage locker again I will absolutely turn these folks. I gotta say, Barry and Tyler are some of the nicest people to deal with. This facility is clean and is easy to access with many hand carts to lug stuff around. They also allow you to use their moving truck within limitations but it's free if you're in the area..FREE! The move out process was even easier than I thought. Every step is very simple and it something to appreciate as moving is already a huge headache. I highly recommend this storage facility because of the personnel, cost, ease, and cleanliness. The cleanest, friendliest storage unit I've ever been to! The owners were so kind and helpful. They have a free box truck that you can borrow to transport all your items, which was the main reason we sought them out, but we will definitely be back for the kind and helpful service. The men who run it clearly take pride in their business. We had several large pieces that we were having a lot of trouble moving ourselves and the two guys who run the place quickly came over to help us lug two very heavy couches and a queen mattress up the stairs to our unit. They were so kind and and went above and beyond to make sure we could get our stuff in safely. They wouldn't even take a tip (they forced it back into my car when I tried to give it to them on the way out, lol!). Added bonus, the bathroom in the office was impeccable! And even had some nice peaceful artwork hanging. We are so thankful we were recommended to this place! read more

As a partner and employee of 18 years for a local newspaper I have to say that in 10 years of partonidge I am appalled by what has transpired with this place. I have spent over 50k with them and it looks like they are really going to be selling my belongings at an auction, I showed up a couple weeks ago ready to pay my bill and get my stuff and leave this terrible place I really cannot believe what they said to me. I was not allowed access to my unit because I was in my mercedes was told that until I get a truck to remove my items I would not be allowed in. Well i called yesterday and my bill is now over 1000.00! We came to an agreement that I was moving out, no big deal everything in my unit came in the same car I drive every day! I had a message from some manager that I have never met or spoken with saying something about eating food on the premises no clue what he/she meant. The 2 funny guys at the front said it was drinking alcohol so an outright lie so pathetic. Bottom line is that I now have to take this place to court and believe me I do not have time for any of this. This is a serious warning to you please be leery of this place. I know its just storage but they are basically stealing 2 huge lockers full of items that I have spent 10s of thousands of dollars on. I was ready to get on with this 2 weeks ago, this place is run by people who act like they are in 8th grade. I had a tennant come un to me and ask me if I was moving out? Really? Why was this information which is very personal shared with someone I have never met? They put on a good game face but some of the rude behind my back comments that I have had made towards me are downright disgraceful. This place needs some sort of sensitivity training, not sure how these guys can even have control over anything that does not belong to them. This Security Public Storage has the best customer service. Besides great customer service the property is really pretty ; the property is surrounded by trees and there's flowers in the parking lot. Instead of looking like a prison it looks more like a park , which makes it a pleasant experience instead of a chore going to the facility! read more

This has been my best storage experience ever. Last year I rented my first unit with SPS as I was anticipating an upcoming multi-home downsizing. Barry and Tyler made a wonderful first impression! They helped me find the right unit for my needs. Shortly afterwards, I added a 2nd unit and eventually a 3rd. The units are clean and secure, well lit and have good surveillance. I have been a customer for over a year and their lack of customer service and hours are not convenient as a customer. Their prices are very high and their facility are outdated with no ventilation (A/C) for your belongings. There have been several occasions on my days off (holidays) where I'm not even able to access my own unit. If you miss a payment and it's 11 days past due, they will lock your storage without any notification. They are not customer friendly regarding your feedback as a customer and don't care to listen. Location wise, very congested traffic causing difficulty getting access to the facility , especially when you are moving in very large items. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because my location is a few blocks away from the facility but I will be considering going elsewhere. read more

Excellent service! Barry, Tyler and Linda are so helpful and friendly. We moved in late May for two months during a move. We had lots of questions as it was our first time using storage. Everyone was so patient with us, especially when we couldn't get our unit unlocked and when we forgot the enter the security code. The facility is clean and very easy to navigate. I was looking for a less expensive option for storage space with twice the size of my storage unit in San Francisco. My 4x5 space in San Francisco was $201 per month. This storage space that Barry and Tyler offered me was $186 for a 5x10 (includes insurance). He gave me a move-in offer which I couldn't resist. I found out that move-in offers vary from month to month so I chose not to tell you mine :-) So, I closed out my San Francisco storage space and moved to Security Public Storage in San Mateo. I really appreciate the follow-up that Barry did with me since he only had a few in inventory. We made the arrangements over the phone and then we went to the office soon thereafter. Amazing customer service! Their office is very neat, clean, and orderly! I like that there is cold water to quench my thirst --- and even Keurig coffee if I needed it. The paperwork was done via tablet (as well as my e-signature) and emailed to me. So efficient! I love my unit! It is spacious and clean. Since I've just moved in, I will be back soon to work on organizing my storage space. I hope to tell you more about my experience at this San Mateo storage place. They used to give me a courtesy call or text to let me know I would be incurring a late fee if I don't pay in the next day or two. This has been done for many years and it's pissing me off that all of a sudden they just stopped doing it. It seems like they just WANT me to be late so they can make an extra $15 off me. That's on top of the constant rate increases. I was at $110 for one of my spaces which now is $180. And it's not a huge space. I'm starting to think I should just take both of my 2 spaces and go somewhere else that doesn't keep raising their rates everytine I blink. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER! read more

We have used Pubic Storage for over a decade on and off. The location has always had decent prices in some what of a difficult to access layout, but the level of customer service just took a dramatic boost.. so much that I will never think twice again about which storage company to consider. Barry & Tyler were an absolute life raft for us in dealing with a nightmare logistics company who were helping us move in and out of Storage. So many unfortunate surprises for us in this process which impacted them directly, yet so many fortunate solutions B & T were able to aide us with. None of it had to do with getting discounts or rate relief.. it was 100% pure great customer service in them helping do whats best for us. "It's a good day at Security Public Storage." (That's how they answer the phone!) Security Public Storage is located between Prince of Wales Pub and the Dollar Wherehouse across the train tracks from the San Mateo County Expo Center. The prices are really reasonable here, especially when there's a sale. My 5'x10' unit was half price ($56) for the first two months. It's quite a steal considering that a 5'x5' unit is $84. I called around to find out prices at other storage facilities in San Mateo, and SPS' were the best. The overall security at Security Public Storage is very good. If someone opens your storage unit without your pin code upon entry of the premises, an employee will walk over to monitor the area. All of the employees with whom I've spoken with have been very nice and helpful. There are usually 2-3 dollies/carts under the stairs by each freight elevator. My advice is to use the smallest one, because the green metal carts are VERY DIFFICULT to maneuver. Also, please take note that in the elevator, there's a switch that holds the door open. read more

I move a lot. I'm getting pretty good at knowing storage companies and this one is one of the good ones. When we went in a few months ago, we met with Desiree, who is totally kick-ass and knows her way around the system. We got a nice interior unit on the first floor at a good price, and we took advantage of the moving truck to haul all of the stuff from my most recent move. Pluses: Good prices Super friendly Carts are handy Plenty of parking Interior units are nice and cool Truck is a huge help Alarmed units with interior lights Elevator to get onto upper floors Minuses: Getting out of the driveway to turn onto 25th Ave is pretty gnarly Units aren't climate controlled Not enough carts on a busy weekend Honestly, they deserve 5 stars, but I was pretty damn spoiled by my last storage in San Diego (they had a bunch of guys on-site to help you move stuff, plus bottled water and coffee every time you visited!). So, not best in California, but maybe best in the Bay Area? read more

We stored items here for over a year. I was extremely impressed with this place. First of all, the people in the office are great--friendly and helpful. Secondly, the facilities are excellent--every unit has an individualized code for the front gate. If you fail to enter with the right code, then an alarm will go off when you open your unit. Lastly, the place was always kept clean. My only wish (but I knew this going in) was that the place was a little more temperature controlled. It's not as if it gets overly hot or cold in the peninsula, but a bit of heat and humidity control wouldn't hurt for storing nicer items. Still, for the price, convenience and staff, I give this five stars. read more
