The Hung Lae Curry cost $20 and was literally 8 ounces of curry with four pieces of pork belly and no rice - it tasted fantastic, but it was little more than an appetizer, not an entre. The Larb was plain tasting, but otherwise as described (though about half portion compared to other restaurants - for $15). I've been here twice, tonight and a month ago. I ordered the same things tonight because they were so good last time! The Papaya Salad is unlike any Thai salad I'd had before. You can choose how spicy they make it. The Phad Thai with chicken is fabulous! Phad Thai (along with Panang curry are my typical Thai go-to's), and I have had plenty of great, ok, and disappointing Phad Thai. This does not disappoint! It's perfectly saucy without drowning. The presentation is beautiful. I like spice so I order 4 stars out of 5, and my mouth is properly tingly in a good way. I'll definitely continue to return. read more

This place is fantastic! It's the house hold go to, when ordering togo! I live in Ballard, and there is so much amazing food to be had here. But, when my partner and I want to stay in and take a night off from cooking, this place always makes the short list. We've tried 50% of the items on their menu, and never have had a disappointing dish. Every single thing, we have ever ordered from this place, has been amazing. Get adventurous and just try the many things on their menu. Because, everything is amazing. I can highly recommend the black pepper and garlic crispy softshell crab, all of the soups, all of the curries, especially the panang tofu and hung-lae curry, Chinese broccoli with garlic, green beans with garlic, cabbage with garlic, anything with garlic, all of the egg plant dishes, phad-see-ew and savory crispy tofu. This is a hard review to give because the food was truly excellent and incredibly flavorful. But the service was probably the worst I've seen in Seattle, in fact I would say that it was non-existent. The waiter never came over to us. After 20 minutes of no one even offering to pour us water or hand us menus, we went up to grab menus. Then we had to go up again to flag the waiter down to order drinks. Then we had to go up again to flag them down to order food. They still never brought us any water until we specifically asked halfway through our meal. And this was when the restaurant was only half full on a Monday night. I shudder to think how bad it gets on a weekend. read more

I Ordered the Spicy Thai Basil Fried Rice and an Avocado Corn salad. Both dishes were disappointing on many levels. The fried rice had no hint of spicy heat even though I requested extra spicy when ordering. The salad was lacking the usual pizazz (light on lime juice,spices, and general knowledge of preparation) of a Thai salad. Additionally, there were two unexpected fillets of fish that came with the fried rice and those too were largely disappointing. The fish only took on the flavor of the oil it was fried in and came cold. My taste buds are perfectly fine despite the times and I'm just afraid this place is a sub par option considering all the wonderful choices for Thai in Seattle. read more

My husband and I went to this place after going to Pestle Rock a few times after moving to the area. My husband lived in Chiang Mai for years and is super selective about his Thai food--it's almost impossible to find a place that he feels is authentic. He was happy with Pestle Rock, as they have his favourite dish, khao soi, and make it well. When I told him that another Thai restaurant nearby also had khao soi, I was desperate for him to try it because the menu here is much more expansive and I was dying to eat some curry. So we went. Wow, wow, wow, it was delicious! The atmosphere of the restaurant is super charming, and the service was great. I love how they label the different regions of Thailand on their menu so you can see where different dishes come from. My husband had the khao soi and loved it! I ordered the panang curry, and I loved the tang from the lime leaves that you don't really get in most curry dishes. My husband often complains that American curry is too sweet, but at Secret Savory, he was overjoyed to find a curry that he actually wanted to eat. found this place a couple months ago and promised myself i'd review it. food was delicious, servers were nice and attentive, and the aesthetic is very clean and minimal. but know that most of the dishes have small servings for the price and that they don't have the "stereotypical" thai food but they're upfront about that. i'm hoping they add more to the menu soon read more

Secret Savory is the best Thai restaurant in Ballard. The décor is minimalist, but aesthetically pleasing and very clean (including the kitchen). Their Kha Nom Jeen Nam Ya Pu (Crab curry with fresh vegetables and rice noodle) and Yum Jin Gai (spicy chicken soup) are excellent. The soft shell crab and the dipping sauce has very good flavor. It's very crispy with nice balance of pepper and garlic. Yum Woon Sen and Jackfruit salad are also very good too. Basically, Everything was delicious and service was excellent! All the food tastes very authentic and clean. And the best part, not overly saucy, salty or greasy, unlike most traditional American style Thai food. This restaurant may not be very obvious from the main street. It's tucked away, behind a clothing store from the main NW Market street. But it's well worth stopping by to have a nice, clean, delicious and healthy meal. Chef Supanat (Chef/Owner) may be new in this area. But his attention to detail, well thought out presentation, and cooking skill really make his food very special. Ms. Khem (Manager/Co-owner) is always nice, knowledgeable and helpful.
