I so desperately want Royal Palm to be better, because the potential is there, but alas. They had a change of management in the last couple years, and after years of walking past it, I was finally convinced to give it a go earlier in the Spring. I ordered my standard, 5-Star Chicken Pad Thai, to go, and at first bite, immediately texted my husband that the new iteration of Royal Palm was *IT*, and that it'd be my new favorite Pad Thai place. The flavor, the spice, the CHAR--everything was PERFECT, when most of my previously reliable Pad Thais around had been slipping. I was thrilled. We returned to eat in person shortly after, and it was great. Fast forward to Summer, I really don't know what happened. I tried the Pad Thai to go at least 3 times since, and EVERY SINGLE TIME it was bland beyond belief with no spice, no flavor. How?! Stone cold, cafeteria quality, inattentive service, meager portions. over priced. Should've known from the get-go, having had to plead for some ice in our water. The food was bland and given there was almost nobody in the restaurant, it should've been hot, but it tasted like it had been just sitting out. Five dollars for shrimp about five very small shrimp in your soup. The soup was the only thing that was hot. Mixed garden fry ? Some Napa cabbage and dried up tofu for $16 - absurd. I had to hiss at the waitress to get her attention and then another time I had to get up and walk over there --again there's like two or three parties in the restaurant. Been here twice and had drastically different experiences both of the times. I ate in and it was decent. Got the crispy garlic chicken and the food came out oddly fast like they had already prepared it and just needed to plate it. Quantity was good and veggies seemed pretty fresh. Rice was small and expensive though so I was like okay might as well go again and order take out so I can make rice at home. I got the orange beef and it tasted okay but the amount of food was half of how much I got in the restaurant. So my suggestion is to eat in the restaurant but not order rice. read more

Came here after a hike and was extremely pleased with the portion sizes and fragrant food here! We ordered the vegetable rolls to split and I ordered a pad kee mao with beef. Together that combination of food was able to make me feel l full and satisfied. Ambiance is comfortable but classy at the same time - it makes you feel like you're eating dinner at home but it's decorated for a special occasion. Service could be improved - we did need to flag down the waiter a couple times to get their attention, but it wouldn't stop me from coming here again. read more

I came here on thanksgiving because it was the only place open. Got the basil fried rice. It was awful. I waited twenty minutes for the food and seemed like it was just thrown together in 30 seconds. It wasn't even fried rice. It was two day old white rice soaked in grease. Zero flavor. With hardly any "chicken" or whatever the scrap meat they tossed in there was. This was my thanksgiving dinner and was so disappointed. I took maybe 5-6 bites and just threw it away. Walked home in the rain and ate macaroni and cheese instead. I'll never return to this place. Overall mediocre food. The Pad Thai simply lacked overall flavor. Okay portion size and had to doctor it up a bit with some sambal. Also didn't come with a ton of chicken. Not horrible but not great either. The Tom Yum soup I ordered with veggies and I appreciate how many they put in there. Plenty of mushrooms, broccoli, onion, carrot, and even baby corns. Amazing Mom&Pop restaurant- run by a wife&husband duo wh oare so sweet. She is very kind always and even remembers my favorite orders. I love that they have great flavors and prices that are affordable for all of us during this time. They partner with some delivery apps but we have found ordering by phone to pick up has been the best option for us. Our Saturday lunch at the Royal Palm was a delight. The food, the service, the ambience...all were excellent! The restuarant is very clean and the tables are set beautifully. The quiet atmosphere and view of the street below gives great character to the dining area. We ordered the Royal Palm Special Noodles (wide rice noodles with spinach and peanut sauce and choice of meat or seafood). I had shrimp, my wife had scallops. The table salad was lettuce and juliened carrot, radish and carrot-ginger dressing; crisp and cold and fresh. The contrast of hot noodles and shrimp on rice was heaven! If course we had Thai-iced-tea to round out the meal. I believe the server was also the owner, she was so attentive and up-beat, just a joy to talk to. She said there is parking underneath the restaurant, and suggested we come back on Sunday when the full evening menu is served all day. We definitely will be back! Food quality, freshness, presentation; restaurant cleanliness, decor, character and atmosphere, attentive service with enthusiasm...what more could anyone ask for ??? - 5-Stars for sure! read more

Been to this place quite a few times over the years, but don't really have a strong impression. We ordered 3 most popular dishes to on their menu, and still is not impressed. Their Pad Thai is missing the red color and flavor. The Royal Palm Special Noodles is mushy and coated peanut sauce on top of raw spinach. After a few bites, taste kind of gross. This place is THE BOMB! My husband and I went here to try something new and it did not disappoint. Everything was made to order and cooked to perfection. Even the coffee came out in a personal French press and sugar cubes, like how cute is that!? I finally decided to stop buying food from this place.  The food has much less chemicals compared with other places, however the quality of the ingredients are less than a good deal, and the price is high for take out.  Plus I was deceived on a Groupon.  I bought a Groupon the other day, and when I arrived to order, the owner said they stopped their contract with Groupon in January.  Wait a minute, you mean they did nothing about it for 5 months?  Other than say, they didn't know why Groupon keeps listing their restaurant???  Sounds like a ploy to get extra people in.  Basically Bait and Switch, which is illegal advertising. What you pay for in a restaurant is the real estate, is it close by, does it have a view, a nice interior, quiet and cosy, clean, bathrooms, etc.  In Covy times, this all goes out the window because at RPT, you can't take advantage of the environment or service.  Therefore, prices ought to reflect this lack of service, because it is now a take out business.  RPT's website does not list prices, which automatically show they lack transparency, plus they don't affiliate with online ordering from their website so you can't look up pricing easily, and Yelp has old menu prices.  I did find them on DoorDash however the in restaurant prices were significantly higher than on DoorDash.  On DoorDash the Pa-nang salmon was $10.95 and we were charged $12.95 each.  Chicken satay was $7.95 and we were charged $10.95.  Pineapple rice was listed at $9.95 and we were charged $14.95.  A total of $12 extra, excluding tax.  Plus zero compensation over not getting a discount from Groupon.  If I had known there were two sets of pricing, I would have just ordered on DoorDash, or better yet, walked out. The lunch special #5, Panang Salmon was a good buy at $10.95 at DoorDash, however they charged $12.95 at the door.  The salmon was larger than most places, almost 1" thick, which was nice, a bit too dry which means either old, or overcooked.  Zero red curry sauce on it, which seems like a great way to save costs on ingredients that cost practically nothing in the first place: chilies, coconut milk, sugar, water and fish sauce.  Spinach was nice, however the dressing was so watery it got over the salmon and rice, and lost its mouth appeal from being too watered down.  They provided cooked carrots and broccoli which was abundant in comparison to other places.  The jasmine rice had zero aroma, which would have been nicer if it did smell like jasmine rice, instead of long grain rice.  I didn't see basil or any lime leaves, cut no matter how small.  This dish is supposed to have a fresh kafir lime leaf, rolled fresh and sliced thinly over the top.  I know Cash & Carry has this in stock as we speak, and so do many stores. Pad Thai with Prawns at $13.95, was marginal, there are thin noodles that are very broken into 3" lengths, overcooked bean sprouts, and really no veggies in it.  Very little flavor.  Looks like mush.  When my wife and I make this dish it tastes 100 times better.  So sad.  Why are you charging so much for this??? Vegetable rolls, 3, at $6.95, open them up and you find 2 carrot slivers the size of pencil leads about 1" long and some cabbage.  A real dud.  Sauce was very good.  Included 1 peanut, cut up, generous. Pineapple fried rice with prawns at $9.95 on DoorDash, $14.95 at the door, was pretty good, however it would be nice to have finely cut carrot cubes, some peas and delicately cut veggies.  Egg pieces are micro sized.  Again really no flavor.  Onion, carrots, 7 raisins, several recognizable micro pieces of pineapple.  There was probably 1/6 of an onion, 1/2 of a carrot, a tablespoon of pineapple, 1 egg max. Chicken Satay at $7.95 on DoorDash, however at the door they cost $10.95, 5 pieces, chicken breasts are very dry. They claim to source the freshest ingredients, not the best ingredients, and it shows, they have cheap ingredients and as little as possible, like 7 raisins.  You can tell when people don't post pictures of their food on Yelp, they are not proud of this place, most of the photos are from the business owner, and certainly not representative of what is actually delivered. What this restaurant is really delivering is profit.  The ingredients seem sourced at Cash&Carry, all low quality, flavorless, bland.  Zero artistic touches, like receiving a present without a bow or wrapping paper. read more

Royal Palm provided such an amazing experience when it came to our food! I just moved here around the area about 2 weeks ago and never really had the time to check the restaurants around the area. However, with the snow storm impacting our abilities to go anywhere, this was one of few places open and their food, I have to say, is top tier. Everything was made so fresh and tasted so good and the quality of customer service was amazing. I would highly suggest this place to anyone wanting a good experience that's also within walking distance! read more

Don't be fooled by the surface. If you order a papaya salad, be prepared to find a very thin layer of papaya on the top, and lettuce leaves underneath that thin layer of ornamental papaya. The curry chicken dish is a few chunky and dry pieces of chicken breast on top of, again, lettuce leaves. And the fried noodle is mushy, mixed with raw leafy vegetables. This might be acceptable if it were shopping mall food court food, but not at a restaurant that charges at this level. read more

Always really delicious, fresh food. I can't get enough of their tamarind cod! We have been coming here for years, now we do take out. Other faves: fresh shrimp rolls, chicken saté. No idea what the food is like & probably won't ever know. I placed an order for delivery through Uber Eats & scheduled if for delivery about 3 hours later -- still w/in their hours, but at the end. But I could not eat earlier & needed to plan ahead. I then received a confirmation of when my order would be arriving about an hour before it was scheduled. Then, about 20 min before it was to arrive, they just cancelled my order without any explanation! I was stuck without any dinner & having to scramble at the last minute to throw something else together & it cost considerably more as a result. I've only been here once, on a New Year's Day. This is probably why I never came back -- we went at noon but weren't allowed to order from the lunch menu since it was a holiday. That rubbed me the wrong way, and I remember thinking the dinner prices weren't that cheap either. I don't remember the food being outright bad so I'm leaving the rating at 3, just not phenomenal for dinner prices when it was midday. We ordered pad thai and panang curry. These were all on par with local average Thai restaurants. I like Krittika and Charm nearby much better. As a neighborhood place, this is okay, but I'm never really compelled to go there. read more

Went in to grab some take out food for lunch. I have passed by this place over a hundred times but have never been motivated to go inside. After eating there I can say that I should have listened to my gut instinct. I ordered the phad thai lunch special and the beef lunch special. Each was about $9. The portion sizes were way too small. Instead of splitting 2 lunch specials between 2 people we should have split 3 lunch specials between 2 people. Also the food honestly just want very good. The beef was dry and unimpressive. The phad thai was just as bad as the beef and the chicken skewers that came with it tasted like they had peanut sauce that came straight out of the can poured on them. The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars instead of one is becsuse the service is very very friendly. Even though I was just ordering take out they still brought me some soup while I waited. Unless you are standing right in front of the building and have to have thai food in the next 99 seconds, you have far better food options that are within a block of this place. read more

Wow- I'm surprised by the other reviews. I visited Royal Palm for the first time this week, and it was delicious! I would have given it 5 stars, but the portions weren't as big as I normally see. I rarely ever leave a restaurant without a to go box, but I left Royal Palm empty-handed. Maybe it was just that good? We ordered the Royal Palm Special Noodles (yum!), the Ginger Chicken (delicious!) and the Beef Curry (didn't try that one, but I heard it was great). I especially enjoyed the Royal Palm Special Noodles, so much that I just called my local Thai restaurant to see if they could replicate it. They made an attempt, but Royal Palm did much better. I ordered the penang curry curry to go. And while the service at the counter was pleasant and the food came out really fast, I was absolutely shocked at the portion size. When I looked at the bill they tacked on an additional dollar to the $10.95 price. They also do not include rice, so any rice you want comes out to $2 extra. The food was just ok. Went to Royal Palm for lunch today and really all I can say is Meh. The service is eager, but the food does not hold up. I had the panang curry with chicken and ordered it at a 4 out of 5. When I got it, the chicken was rubbery, the curry was underdeveloped, and the heat was NONEXISTENT. I was expecting a depth of flavor and challenge of heat that was nowhere to be found. The food was okay. Nothing super special. I was with a group of 8 people, so we all shared each others dishes. I wasn't super impressed by any of them, they were just okay. But the service was excellent and they checked on us constantly. One nice thing was they split the bill for 8 people, which is pretty rare in my experience.
