I love ice cream. I love soft serve. I love creamy & cold treats. And this place deserves all the hype it gets. The soft serve is so creamy & delicious. The waffles cones are always fresh & I love the slight hint of sweetness. Who knew that milk from Japanese cows would make all the difference?! Toppings are delicious! The roasted soybean powder is the perfect addition. The MBR is my fave! Service at the walk up window is easy.
The first ice cream shop in America to make soft serve with milk from Hokkaido! We got the swirl with a waffle cone and added Shiratama Kuromitsu Kinako for the toppings! I think without the added toppings, the ice cream itself is a little bland. I had expectations it would taste like Cremia in Japan, but that's too high of an expectation. The waffle cone was really good though. It's pricey for what it is but worth trying!
Even on a cold day there was a line, and rightfully so. Their Hokkaido milk based ice cream is light but creamy. It's almost a literal hole in the wall, it's a small booth within a restaurant, but you order at the outside window. There aren't many options so you don't have to be indecisive! Hokkaido soft serve topped with MBR (mochi, brown sugar, and roasted soybean powder) is the classic order 10/10, but you can be adventurous! The yaki imo brûlée is a seasonal one (not sure how long it'll be around for) but it's basically a sweet potato mash topped with sugar and torched, a balance of creamy and crunchy from the burnt sugar- I personally liked the OG better but this was a good twist I'd like to try the matcha next time I'm around !
I waited 30 minutes in line for soft serve and would absolutely do it again. Indigo Cow is a tiny walk-up window on 45th, glowing with a neon blue cow sign, attached to Yoroshiku /secret fort. We went with the yaki imo brûlée: sweet potato soft serve with a caramelized sugar crust torched right on top. Warm and crunchy on top, cold and smooth underneath. It's a small menu and a two person operation, which explains the wait. The line doesn't lie. Go early, be patient, get the brûlée.
We actually went here back in January. It was my first time in Seattle. And my bf made it a point to visit this place. He's the one that's actually been wanting to go visit this spot. It's a tiny hole in the wall ice cream spot. Keep in mind, it was hella cold already when we went and we still managed to get an ice cream in that weather. But the hype was actually worth it. Saw indigo cow on tick tok and I had to try it out! They apparently get their milk shipped straight from Hokkaido which is pretty cool. It's an order window only so we had to stand in line for a bit. I got the seasonal yaki imo brûlée which was amazing. It was the Hokkaido vanilla soft serve with a layer of sweet potato, and then brulee'd like creme brûlée!! It was sooooo good. Staff was very friendly and worked so quickly! There was one person managing the whole stand!
Very limited menu but was excited to try the viral Hokkaido Milk ice cream at Indigo Cow. This is still in its popular era so expect a long line even on a weeknight. They have about 4 options with various limited toppings. I tried the crème brûlée ice cream which was topped with a sweet yam custard, not as good as I was hoping for, but definitely unique. We also tried the Matcha swirl with dark chocolate topping, and the Hokkaido milk with strawberry topping. The ice cream is quite a bit lighter than regular soft serve which I enjoyed.
So happy for stumbling upon this place! Now I can enjoy Hokkaido soft serve anytime without waiting until my next trip to Japan. The only downside is that the line is usually long, though it moves at a decent pace -- the longest we've waited was about 20 minutes. You basically just order through the window and there are a couple outdoor table/benches to sit on. I had the Hokkaido milk soft serve with dango and kinako, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. Definitely worth stopping by if you're craving a sweet treat :)
Indigo Cow is a a little hole-in-the wall spot for Hokkaido milk ice cream! On two separate trips to Seattle, I somehow ended up at Indigo Cow because it was that good.! As mentioned previously, it is a small shop with pretty much just one person manning the machine and cashier! So it is quite easy to see why there would be a line that builds. But they literally just serve one product so the line does move fairly quickly. Customers will order and then there is some parklets for enjoying ice cream not too far from the shop. I would have to say that I enjoyed my first trip slightly more. I was with my family so was able to try a few varieties of their standard soft serve. The consensus was that the yaki-imo (baked sweet potato) was our favorite. There is the bruleee'd sweet potato with the cool creamy cream that was so velvety smooth! On the second trip, we got the melon and milk soft serve which was okay, but I think I would have preferred just the milk. The parking can be a little difficult in the area depending on the time of day, but able to find if you are willing to walk a little. Overall, Indigo Cow serves a cool treat worth the calories especially if you are able to get the yaki-imo!
I was looking for dessert after dinner and this came up in my search and had appetizing photographs. They have a Walk up window where you place your order. I got the Matcha in a charcoal waffle cone with MBR2 topping. The balls were awful. I didn't enjoy this place personally. The matcha ice cream and the charcoal cone was not too bad. They were making charcoal cones and only had one, so I got the charcoal and the other person in my party got a regular cone (and that was nasty and super hard. I tried it myself after they said there were going to throw theirs away, and confirmed it was. I Do not recommend you to get the regular cone. Just wait for the charcoal cones to be made)
Last time I had here was back in 2022 when both Secret Congee and Drunken Chicken were still nearby in the Wallingford neighborhood where this location still stands. Now it's closer to both Yoroshiku and shares a spot with Secret Fort (whoops it's not secret anymore once I said that). There's not any kind of interior to sit inside per se, you just have a bunch of outside tables you could potentially sit at or you could just stand and eat your ice cream that way. I got their regular Hokkaido milk ice cream in a cup, and got their M.B.R as my topping, which consists of mochi, brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean powder, all for $2 more. My grand total was close to $10 for a cup of really high quality ice cream with superb toppings. Consistency of the ice cream was heavenly and overall really silky. Taste was sweet but not overly, surprisingly. Mochi was nice and chewy, syrup added another tint of sweetness that blended with the ice cream, and the soy bean powder added another kind of sweet and nutty flavor that complemented everything. Lots of people lined up for this place, even going as far as waiting about 10+ minutes for the server to come back from his break; this was about the same amount of time it took for me to finish my ice cream because I wanted to savor every bite. This place has been around for quite a long while, so if you haven't already, do not pass up on this place for some superb soft serve!
Wow yummy! Stopped by on a Thursday around 8:15pm; the line snaked around into the parking lot by Yoroshiku. We ordered by 8:45pm, so not too bad of a wait. The girl working was very friendly, big props to her for doing it all solo. Got the small in a cup w MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soybean powder). Came with 4 mochi and an adequate amount of syrup and powder. I'd prob give this 4 stars. Even though a cone is $1.5, I do think there's a bit more ice cream. Friends got the yaki-imo brulee soft serve, which I tasted and thought was DELISH. The sweet potato topping was so tasty, and I felt like it cut through the flavor/texture fatigue of just hokkaido milk ice cream. 5 stars yum!! read more

Long wait but a solid, tasty ice cream. We waited in line around 20 minutes on a Saturday night. I got a vanilla and matcha swirl with some sort of mochi with a honey sauce. Tried this place while a friend was in town. Pretty long line but it does move. Menu is limited and a bit pricey but the hokkaido soft serve is pretty tasty. They have some outdoor seating too which is a plus. ried both a soft serve (matcha hokkaido swirl/mix) with MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup and roasted soy bean), a side of dango, as well the creme brulee soft serve which was really unique and tasty and in my opinion, worth the hype of coming here to try this place. The dango was OK but the soft serve and the MBR toppings were also tasty. Definitely a nice little treat! I know that there is a seasonal rotation, so may not be matcha if we were to come back. read more
I've been hearing so much about Indigo Cow and finally got to try it. The soft serve is really creamy and has a nice texture. A perfect treat in the summer. I tried their OG MBR that has mochi, syrup and soybean powder. Was pretty good and I tried the Matcha swirl, overall pretty good! read more

This was my first time trying Hokkaido ice cream! Unfortunately the only flavor they had was milk, as they ran out of their second flavor, pistachio. For a rainy cold Sunday I was surprised they were out of the second flavor. We paid extra for the sauce, seasoning (forgot what flavor but it tasted mildly like peanuts) and mochi. The mochi was flavorless. I think more flavors and toppings would be nice to see. read more
overall 7.5/10 went here yesterday night after seeing it all over tiktok and reels!! it was lowkey really rainy, and the line was pretty long. it's only one window, with one worker and one machine, so the wait could be longer than expected, so be prepared to wait. there's also only two flavors, the regular hokkaido milk, and the seasonal (in this case it was pistachio), so there was a pretty limited menu. there was also a special, the yaki imo brulee, and multiple toppings including fresh organic strawberry, dark chocolate, and mitarashi dango (mochi with soybean powder). again, it's a pretty small place, so theres no seating except for a couple covered outdoor tables. yaki imo brulee - 9/10 SO YUMMY, genuinely if you come here you have to get this. it's the hokkaido soft serve with sweet potato paste and a brulee-ed top. sweet potato perfectly complimented the soft serve, and it wasn't too sweet. genuinely i would come back just to get this one. only thing i would comment on was the service speed, as the line took a while, and we were standing in the rain for A LONG time. don't blame the employee though, as they were busting their butt, but it was just super busy and they could only make one at a time, while serving both the line and the restraurant its attached to hokkaido milk soft serve w/ mbr and strawberry (matarashi dango, brown sugar and roasted soybean powder) - 7/10, didn't really like the roasted soybean powder, mochi was pretty bland, the ice cream itself was super thick and creamy and i enjoyed the brown sugar! the strawberry was bussin hokkaido milk w/ mitarashi dango - 7.5/10, i like how it was thick and tasted natural (not artificial), the mochi was aight, wouldn't get it again. i also like the brown sugar syrup, would only go again if they had another seasonal flavor like the matcha one, i'm not super into pistachio. pricing was pretty good for the size hokkaido milk w/ strawberry - 6/10, lowkey just tasted like soft serve and really expensive. the strawberry was nice (kinda had a salty aftertaste but not really) just kinda tasted like a dairy queen soft serve read more

Nice soft serve place to try! They specialize in Japanese soft serve, which tastes good! I had their Hokkaido soft serve with hard chocolate shell in a waffle cone. The soft serve was creamy, but wasn't as sweet as I'd like it to be. The hard chocolate shell went nicely with the soft serve. The waffle cone was good, but didn't taste that fresh. The service was okay. There was only one employee working and there was a long line. They should really have at least two workers on the weekends. The ambiance is okay. There's no indoor seating, but there were some outdoor seatings which were limited. read more
Having passed this place plenty of times of times in my neighborhood and often times seeing the huge line, I'd always been curious to try it. One nice summer weekday, on the whim and while the line was short, I gave it a shot. I wanted to try both of the popular offerings here, so of course the 'swirl' was in order. This was also recommended by the server. This included the Hokkaido soft serve and the matcha. The ice cream itself is very rich and holds together, It wasn't the hottest day but it wasn't all melty. The flavor is subtle, not real sweet like your average Dairy Queen serving. The Hokkaido again has a subtle sweetness, and the Matcha has a bold, vibrant flavor that's a mix of earthy, grassy, and slightly bitter notes, with a smooth umami finish. The ice cream here is perfect for someone who doesn't want something that's too sweet and has a very rich creamy taste. read more
This was so tasty. Honestly it was cold and rainy and I still would have ordered ice cream. They have plenty of unique toppings and flavors. Of note, they don't have any dairy free or vegan options because it's all made with Hokkaido milk, but it was worth it for me. The service was very friendly and helpful with menu items and explanations. There's no indoor because it's a window you order from but there's some covered little booths you can sit at across the way if you want to eat there. Would def return for more despite the dairy lol. read more
There's almost always a line but the line moves quickly and likely you'll get to the front within ten minutes or so. I've been here twice. The first time there was no other flavor other than milk (everything else had sold out) and the second time there was literally a hair in my ice cream. The workers do wear face masks but it seems like some workers have facial hair and this slipped past. A bummer for sure. read more
We came on a rainy day, and there was still a short line outside, but it moved quickly and we only waited 10 minutes to place our order. They make it very quickly on-the-spot once you get to the window! We ordered the Matcha MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup, roasted soybean powder) and Hokkaido milk w/ Dango in a waffle cone, which came out to about $15. Both were delicious -- the toppings were scrumptious (especially the chewy texture of the mochi & dango) and the soft serve itself was flavorful and creamy. The soybean powder was a nice touch, it added the perfect nuttiness. I'm counting down the days until I can visit again, and would brave a (reasonable) wait time to have this ice cream! Great place to get soft serve ice cream! Super yummy and refreshing! I also really enjoy their hojicha syrup. They also have toppings that you can pick! The one thing that's unfortunate is their long line for soft serve. Also, if you want to eat ice cream when it's cold out, there's no indoor seating, so be prepared to brace the cold! read more
I had dinner at the next door Secret Fort, and came here for the dessert afterwards. When I saw the long line, I started wondering if it's really worth it. After eating the first bite, I can say that there was no regret in waiting! It's one of the best, richest soft-serve I've had. I got the Hokkaido milk and melon swirl with M.B.R topping. The melon flavor was surprisingly amazing, and the taste felt so natural. It's not too sweet which definitely suits my taste. There are tables along the side walk for people to eat and socialize. The service was fast, even though there was only one person working. There were many toppings sold out though, so I would come earlier next time to try some other ones. Parking wasn't too bad in the neighborhood, but likely you would need to walk a few blocks. read more

This was my first ever place to get sweets here in Seattle and I am SO coming back here again. First of all, this place gets busy QUICK. You don't physically go inside a building, and instead line up outside of their service window (the line can sometimes wrap around the surrounding businesses it gets so packed. Luckily for me and my family, we waited for only a few min before we were able to order. There are some outdoor benches for sitting as well. I ordered a regular swirl in a cone with MBR topping and my boyfriend ordered a small swirl in a cup with a dark chocolate shell. The total was about $21.30 (including a 15% tip), so personally, a bit on the pricey side for some soft serve ice cream, BUT you do get a good amount and it's pretty tasty. I would recommend this as a once in a while treat. I can't wait to come back. read more

Pros: - Ice cream was really good!! Creamy, milky and not too sweet. - got a pup cup for my pupper Cons: - The line moves abnormally slow. Not because it's super popular, I mean yeah it is popular, but mainly because service is grindingly slow. There's only one person serving ice cream at a time, who happily chat with customers about what's good on the menu, about the weather etc. Japan known for its efficiency, does not reflect that here. - Maybe have multiple people serving, or atleast keep talking to a minimum and try to speed people along. Serving 10 people should not take 25min, when most of it is ready made soft serve - Also the strength of matcha should be increased. While it's milky, in terms of Matcha flavor, Nana's green tea comes out way superior. Plus they are super rapid in terms of service This place can be an easy 5 star with some improvements towards customer service time and quality. read more

Food - because we both love sweets, my husband and i got our OWN cups of softserve. i'm guessing you need to get here early because when we arrived they were out of a few things, like cones. but my husband for the creme brulee on the milk which was very good because it has that standard creme brulee top to crack but pretty sweet for me. i got the matcha with the kinako, mochi, and brown butter sauce. less sweet than the creme brulee, which i preferred. Service - my husband and i sat outside with the dog. and our little boo would not stop staring at the worker. i guess she could sense how much he loves ice cream because she brought him out a pup cup and he devoured it! so nice of her to do that! he was very happy as you can see in my video! Ambiance - very chill. no seating inside since the place is located inside another restaurant (which i also want to come back to try). but plenty of outdoor seating. perfect for seattle summers. read more
Came to indigo cow after seeing a review on Friday at 3 PM, right as they opened. There was another group in front of me that gave me time to look at the menu. The current rotating flavor is melon, which I wasn't that excited about but decided I should get that with the swirl. I also added the MBR (mochi, brown sugar syrup, roasted soy bean powder) topping. My ice cream was prepped very quickly. The ice cream texture and the flavor of the melon were both great, and overall quite strong. The melon pretty much fully overpowered everything, but it was a pleasant melon. The soft serve aspect was also great. The brown sugar syrup was probably the addition I liked the best. The mochi had a good texture, but it isn't sweetened, so next time I probably wouldn't go for it. They have some outdoor seating across from the shop for those who want to eat. Overall solid ice cream and worth the trip, especially if you want the standard cream flavor or you like the rotating flavor! read more

(Like a cold mochi that's been in the fridge a while) Not sure if it is supposed to be this texture, but no i will need to try this again Dark chocolate add on- enjoyable. Staff was friendly. Several large tables outside to sit and enjoy your dessert. Uses compostable containers and (wooden) spoons, and there's a compost bin to toss everything into, once you are done. read more
We visited The Indigo Cow in Wallingford, a cute little soft-serve ice cream window attached to another restaurant. I love their Hokkaido-style soft serve! You choose your ice cream base, size, and toppings. We ordered the original dairy flavor and a matcha flavor. The original tasted just like rich, silky, frozen milk - very creamy! For the matcha, we added the topping combo of mochi, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soybean powder. The mochi added a chewy texture to the smooth soft-serve, and the brown sugar syrup paired perfectly with the matcha's slight bitterness. The soybean powder gave it a lovely earthy, woody taste. Highly recommended as an after-meal dessert if you want something delicious but not too grand! read more
We just had dinner, and was in need of some dessert. This was walking distance, and it was on my list, so I was very happy to finally be able to try it. And it was so good. It was a little busy, even at night. My bf and I both got the Hokkaido Milk in a cup. He added the Belgian Dark Chocolate Wall. I added that also, plus the Strawberry Sauce and Mochi. The ice cream was so yummy. Loved it with the toppings, and the mochi was such good texture. read more
