3.5 stars. Hello Robin is a cute neighborhood cookie bakery on Capitol Hill. The location was calm and quiet with some street parking available, but easy to get to by bus as well. Inside, it was fun to see the more open kitchen floor plan where I imagine it is entertaining to watch the baking in action. As for the cookies themselves, my partner and I got the open-faced ice cream sandwiches, one orange habanero chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream and one lemon poppyseed drizzle with blackberry cobbler ice cream. I felt that the flavors of both cookies were good, and I enjoyed the added crunch of the topping sugar and light spice in the habanero chocolate chip cookie. However both cookies felt fairly dry, with the ice cream doing little to help. The Molly Moon's ice cream flavors were pretty good, but generally this is just not my favorite ice cream in the city. The shop is cute and nearby a park to enjoy it if it's a nice day outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. I love that you can make an ice cream sandwich with two different cookies. "Careful it's kinda melty..." is what she said with a smile and boy was it warm and melty. The smores cookie is absolutely a must buy here and it tastes legendary. It's not too sweet, warm, soft yet a little crispy on the outside with warm chocolate oozing out when you take a bite. I have to admit I'm glad this place isn't near my house. Went to Hello Robin on a Sunday at 11. There's plenty of free street parking around, and at the time there were not a ton of people in the area. The cookies are on the smaller side so I felt confident buying multiple flavors. I also got a scoop of the Molly Moon's ice cream they sell, which included the monthly matcha strawberry for June. Ice cream was good, about $5 for a kids scoop. I also got the chocolate chip orange habanero, salted butterscotch, and brown butter snickerdoodle cookies, which were all handed to me slightly warm. Everything is absolutely delicious, but the standout to me is of course the orange habanero chocolate chip cookie. The workers were very fast, getting my order ready. The cookies were good, but the customer service was disappointing. I called ahead (an hour prior to purchase) to confirm whether I could purchase 4 dozen cookies for an event. It was a Friday afternoon, and the team member I spoke with was very polite and assured me that it wouldn't be a problem--they said they were fully stocked and could easily handle the order. However, when I arrived at the University Park location, I was told they could only sell me 2 dozen cookies. I pointed out that there were plenty in the display case (at least 8 dozen visible) and likely more in the back. After the employee checked with someone else, she returned and said the best they could do was 3 dozen and in the future make sure to call ahead. I explained that I had called ahead precisely to avoid this issue, and she responded "interesting" like she didn't believe me ... I showed her the call from my cell phone.... and she insisted that they could still only do 3 dozen cookies. At this point I am over it. It's frustrating to be turned away when I was trying to make a large purchase and had taken the extra step to confirm availability.
