This place is a lot more open and well lit compared to Root Table (the restaurant that used to be here). My fiance and I started off with a papaya salad which was light and tasty. For entrees, we got the pad see ew and hung lae curry. The pad see ew with the seafood option came with scallops, squid, and shrimp. The scallop and squid was a nice surprise but didn't really have much flavor. Overall the dish was good though and not too salty like I've seen it done in other places in the area. This is a charming, tucked away restaurant. Very casual and a little noisy due to limited space and interior finish. The food was excellent! Friend and I shared a seaweed chicken roll, which was lightly deep fried with a crunchy outside and moist, inside. The Southern green curry (with optional chicken as my protein) was service in stacked tin bowls. I asked for number 2 (of 5) on the heat index and, though it was manageable, I was surprised that it was spicier than expected. In the neighborhood of stiff competition, Secret Savory has hit the right notes on theme, decor, and ambiance, but it truly lacks the real charm and flavor in the food they serve. For a Thai restaurant, it's wonderfully decorated and has a clean and fresh vibe. If you don't know what it is, it could be mistaken for a chic cafe. They have a pretty large area, and can fit large groups. Their menu explains how different regions of Thailand have their own distinct cuisines, and has some options from all of them. However, as a vegetarian, don't expect a ton of choice, and even though most options can be made with tofu, they cannot make them vegetarian. Nonetheless, taking about the good - the panang curry is really good. So good that we ordered a second curry to share. In our experience, that was the end of the good, and everything else was mediocre. Particularly, the tofu larb salad had burnt pieces of tofu, and the noodles were undercooked. The prices are relatively high, expected for Ballard, but the portions are smaller than average. Service seemed fine but curt. This isn't a place I would like to go to again, other than to pick up some panang curry to-go. read more

This has become my favorite place to eat in Ballard! The food is always delicious and the atmosphere is always great!

To put in short - Bold, complex, and unapologetically authentic. The menu has a great range of standard American Thai fare, and dishes you'll only find at places with a passion for the origins of the cuisine. The lemongrass in wings were delicately crispy and moist and was uplifted from the heaviness of being fried with the strong lemongrass and turmeric sauce. The Phad See Eww and the Phad Thai were both perfectly executed. The See Eww was well balanced and allowed the Chinese broccoli to have its own flavor remain fresh. The Phad Thai wasn't overly sweet, and was just like the street vendors in Thailand. The Royal Khao Soi was the peak, a curry that was the perfect consistency. The chicken thigh falls right off the bone so it isn't a messy dish. Everything came together to make this a must try. Lastly, the ambiance of the restaurant makes this a great date spot. read more

I cannot recommend Secret Savory enough. We've been going since they started, and feel like we were in on something amazing on the ground floor. I can't imagine they'll remain much of a secret for long! Service is great. Food is amazing-- some of the best Thai food in this area, for sure. They in particular have great vegetarian options. And I really appreciate that they are doing a very careful job with covid-19-- masks, distancing, and all that. If you call for pickup and ask for no-contact, they're very careful and nice about it. Wow! Probably one of the best Thai I have had in Seattle...next to Pestle Rock. It's a bit expensive but with every bite.

The fried chicken was really good with great spices and the side coconut dip was awesome. I'll give it 5 stars. Less can be said on the pad see ew and the pad woon sen. The pad see ew doesn't haven't the stir fry flavor but raw soy sauce taste. The pad woon sen is overcooked and soggy with sesame oil that shouldn't be in it in the first place. I've had takeout from here twice this year. The first time, we ordered our food 3* and it was wayyyy too spicy. At Thai restaurants I typically order 3* or 4* but this felt like 10*.
