I was pleasantly surprised by this spot! There weren't any reviews so I took a gamble and WOW. As a Floridian, this made me feel like I was back home and my granny made me a plate to take home!! The catfish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the greens were SUCCULENT, and the mac n cheese was gooey and cheesy and awesome, and the hush puppies are pretty good!! I used a delivery app and the driver had multiple orders so the food wasn't piping hot when it arrived and it STILL blew me out of the water. My photo is probably terrible quality but figured it'd help somebody

I was working through my lunch today so I ordered from Seattle Soul Kitchen through DoorDash. Even though my Dasher got lost in Seattle, my food was still warm and tasted freshly made when it got here. It was delicious!! I really enjoyed it and will be ordering again in the future!

Tried this place for the first time today and it was very offbeat for my liking. To be fair I am very sensible with my taste and preferences and knew eating at a soul food spot would be a gamble. Some places don't know how to do soul food without over seasoning and flavoring the food. Although I am a fan of some soul food nah, and I thought I would really enjoy this place considering I hadn't had any soul food in a while. I called in an hour before closing on a Sunday and was told no phone orders. So I just went in to the location which is a order takeout kitchen for a few different restaurants. No problem, placed my order and waited. I ordered the catfish with lemon pepper, greens and red beans and rice. The wait time was average with the assumption the food is prepared mostly fresh. I didn't realize I had the wrong seasoning on my fish until I made it home. Seems it was some kind of herb seasoning--very flavorful; too much for my liking really. And also for my young child. I was initially hesitant to ask for ANY seasoning but figured lemon pepper wouldn't be too overbearing--but WHOA it just--couldn't enjoy the fish at all. Breading was too much for me as well! Just seemed like too much--ijs. Some people like this--not for my liking. Greens was too salty--I mean okay it's soul food and should have flavor but dang! Trust me y'all --too salty. Once again I kinda felt it would be a gamble trying this place (everybody do soul food different) but I saw the reviews were decent. And lastly, the red beans and rice were Okay! Once again tho I am a very sensible taste and they had a slight 'sour smell/ taste to them. I wouldn't lie! And perhaps I chose to try this spot at the wrong time of day! Last of the batch of food perhaps!!? But still! If you're serving dishes to customers you should check that the food is presentable in taste to be served. I probably wouldn't order here again considering my child nor myself could enjoy this food. On an upside there was a Afro-French cuisine restaurant that also shared this kitchen space. That may be more of my style! Thanks for reading.

I'm not here to discredit anyone's cooking but I had to leave a review. This would be my 2nd time ordering from here and this 2nd order today was very disappointing. My grandson is 9 years old he couldn't help but say the fried chicken was very salty, he really wanted to continue eating because he was hungry so much that he wanted to add syrup to dilute the salt. The greens, were tender and flavorful, Mac and yams were flavorful too. The fried chicken was so salty to me and my 1 daughters as well, dark in color as if the oil is dirty which is why it was salty. The prawn pasta was not prawns after those were very salty as well and not fresh prawns which were fried in old oil as well. The noodles in the pasta were dry dry and no sauce just the dirty oil from the "prawns". I'm sorry but I was highly disappointed because we could not eat the chicken or "prawns" due to the salt and dirty oil they were cooked in.

    Catfish with 2 sides

10/10 would recommend!! Extremely difficult to find good soul food in Seattle & this place was just amazing!! The service & atmosphere were also great! The Catfish is by far the best item on the menu!

We came by on a Sunday late afternoon for what we thought would be a quick dinner, and it ended up being such a lovely meal. We ordered the pad thai, pad kee mao, banh xeo, and the mango trout. Even though the restaurant was fairly busy, everything came out in a timely manner and tasted so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. One thing I really appreciated was how flavorful and tender the meats were in each dish. You could tell the proteins were marinated and cared for before being added in, instead of just tossed into a noodle dish as an afterthought like I've experienced at other places. It made such a difference. The mango trout was such a standout. The trout was a great size, and the mango was firm, crunchy, and fresh, which I absolutely loved. The banh xeo was also delicious: thin, crispy, and served with fresh herbs that weren't wilted at all. The nuoc mam was perfect too, not overly sweet, light, balanced, and just right with the banh xeo. Portions were generous, and we ended up taking food home because we couldn't finish everything. That is always a good problem to have. Most of all, I really want to mention how welcoming the service was. Lynda took such great care of us and made the whole experience feel warm and personal. You can tell this is a place with heart behind it, and I truly hope more people in the neighborhood give it a try. It's not easy running a small business, especially in a beautiful but busy area like Alki, and restaurants like this deserve to be supported. We'll definitely be back. Thank you so much, Lynda, for such a wonderful meal and for making us feel so welcome!

My spouse and I had our anniversary dinner at our favorite restaurant in West Seattle. Phoenecia…read morehas been in the neighborhood since 1970 and moved to their current location near the Alaska Junction in 2019. I fell in love with this place after using them for catering. We were looking for a different food experience beyond hotdogs. I was impressed. The family is Lebanese and the father was the inspiration for the food. When I came to k ow the place and the owners, the mother was active in the restaurant. She introduced me to Lebanese oregano (Za'atar) and gave me some to grow. The two sisters have always been nice, but Nadia and Sonya are simple beautiful humans that go Out of your way to ensure you have a great experience. Their wait staff are very good and you hardly know they are present as they quietly bring food and remove plates with quiet excellence. I have always felt warm and cared for each time I have eaten at Phoenecia and have been friends with the owners for about 15 years. I have friends that have food establishments but have not come close to Phoenecia. Burrata is a tricky one for me. To soft and it is like water and bland to a cheese with a very light flavor to begin with and too firm and it can have the texture of mozzarella. The shell of this was perfect and allowed me to enjoy it with the toasted bread. The warmed olives are a great way to start the meal. There is a hint of chili oil and decorated with arugula. I am not a fan of kale, however, the manner in which this salad is made with shredded kale, and a tangy dressing with toasted spiced garbanzo beans with Kalamata olives, blue cheese covered with thier lemon basil vinaigrette was just wonderful. The spicy shrimp strike an interring balance between the slices that are used and heat from the spices. I could eat this dish all night. There just never seems to be enough u til you remember that you still have another appetizer in the main course ahead of you. The saffron chicken linguini was amazing. The saffron flavor was intoxicating and I loved every fork full, leaving the sauce and bread as an additional treat together. I had a small tast of the gnocchi with lamb sausage in truffle oil and found it to be heavenly. I finished the meal With a Turkish affogato and enjoyed every sip and the melted vanilla ice cream simply added to the richness of the flavor. They have come up with a novel idea to recycle bottles that had whisky and use them for water. The shape adds a lovely decorative note to the table not expected. Phoenecia will always be a place like home for me.

To start I got the "Mediterranean G&T" - gin & tonic and what came out was a gin & tonic about as fancy the restaurant - a stem glass with a huge piney herb hanging out of it. The drink hit. My date got the "Pretty in Pink" which is small, but not in the alcohol percent dept. she said it was good. We shared some small plates - she raved about the Saffron chicken, and I recommended the roasted cauliflower. The Saffron chicken are short cuts accompanied by saffron sauce and some pitas to eat if off of. These sauce for sure is really good, I even put some on the cauliflower. My only complaint is some of the bites of I found to be too salty. The Cauliflower was also good, nicely seasoned but the cuts were huge and tough, I think it would be better presented with the florets. The service was good but the prices for what we got was a bit steep. The "small plates" and drinks came over $70. They were good, but not THAT good. Still the ambience, service and food for what it was along with a varied Mediterranean menu is good. I'd say Phoenecia is about a 3.5-4.
