Have been getting waxed threaded mani pedis and my hair done here for years. I literally have tried a million places and they are the only people who know how to manage my hair. My hair is frizzy and damaged so I get trims every few months. I have ways had an amazing experience. Once I got my nails done and was in a hurry so didn't wait for them to dry I literally ruined every nail and they redid it for me free of charge. Amazing salon love the location and their product selection. Just be sure to call an hour or so before your appointment to be sure they are running on time. Loved this place! read more

I love my hair stylist - Nina. I went to her after trying a lot of hair stylist, though her English is a little weak she understood that I needed a change. She cut my hair and it looked amazing. People actually thought I had a perm when it was my actual hair. My hair routine was cut to next to nothing with this hair style and I was happy that I don't have to put any hair styling product or straighten it every morning. The next time I went - I wanted a different hair color and she colored it perfectly. Highly recommended, just for Nina. read more

I was referred to Scruples by my friend, after I had a terrible experience at a different salon where I went in for a simple root touch up and three hours and hundreds of dollars later ended up with orange hair! Thank goodness for Scruples- I met with Paul and Sam, who took their time to review my hair and figure out how best to correct the situation. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and calm, and luckily able to make my hair much better! They also let me relax in silence while working on my hair which was nice as many hairstylists talk the entire time. I will definitely go back to them from now on. I go here because it's close by and they have a deal for students. In general, they're fine, but not great. A few pet peeves: I don't like it when my stylist smells like cigarettes (I don't like the smell of smoke in general, and when they're touching me and standing in close proximity, it's almost nauseating); some of the stylists don't really lather your hair-- they kind of slap the shampoo on top of your hair and then just wash it off (very odd, I've never seen anything like it). Not somewhere I'd seek out if I had a choice, but it's convenient and adequate. read more

Excellent experience at Scruples. The stylist I booked with had to cancel, but they immediately set me up with Georgette who was willing to stay and take my appointment. Sam did a great job with my cut/color. I'm happy with how it turned out, but just as an FYI they charge $85 (!!!) for toner. I did the Groupon for $116 and figured the toner would be $25-50 due to the discount but $85 is honestly way too much; that's essentially a partial highlight in and of itself. Most other salons I've been to include toner in the process, since if you're going blonde you have to be toned... that's my only qualm. read more

I went in to get highlights but the hairstylist recommended I should get balayage. I showed him pictures of the color I wanted my hair he rushed the procedure and left me with a copper color instead of the caramel color I had originally asked for. He told me it would lighten up after washing my hair. He was also very neglectful at the salon while doing my hair. I called the salon a week after and explained to them the whole situation and they scheduled me for another appointment free of charge. I ended up getting the same hair stylist and he was even more neglectful the second he didn't even bother putting the cape on me and time rushing the process and even checking GPS to see how long it would take him to get home while doing my hair. My hair ended up coming out even more copper/red than the first time I am very dissatisfied with this hair salon and how my hair came out both times I will never give them my business again. read more

This was my first time trying this location. I went to the glenview location for a haircut once and they did a nice job so I decided to give this location a try as it is much closer to my work. I went in asking for A LOT, I wanted about 4-5" cut off and wanted some balayage to add some lightness to my natural dark hair. My hair is pretty thick and there is a lot of it, so I expected to be there for a long time. Overall, they did a great job. Sam was my stylist and Paul was also there and helped out. I absolutely LOVE my haircut, Sam did a great job! The color isn't "exactly" what I asked for but I'm happy with it overall. I also had to go back a second time the next day for some erasing and additional toner because I wasn't 100% satisfied with the initial results (and Paul agreed that it needed some additional work). I'm flexible enough that I was able to return the next day but it was an inconvenience- also, it sounds like the salon space used to be shared with a skincare company/salon and they recently moved so the actual space looks pretty bare and not as pleasing to the eye (another reason why I didn't give them 5 stars). Overall, Sam and Paul were really nice and provided really good customer service. read more

Convenient location in the 680 Building. Was going to Asha and thought I would try Scruples instead. So glad that I did because Nina is an amazing and talented hair stylist/colorist! One of the best I have ever had. She does highlights/lowlights and a cut for me and is friendly and sweet. Scruples prices are more reasonable and I am very happy with their services. I was deciding where to get my hair done. I decided to go to Scruples Salon. So glad I did go there. I got a haircut, full highlights, deep conditioning and style. Nina did a fantastic job. I have been getting my hair cut and styled by Noreen for the past year and visit every 2 months or so. I can't rave enough about her skills. She has cut, colored and styled me, and her 20+ years of experience show. So sweet, so pleasant, always listening to my expectations and going above and beyond. If you want a great cut, color, and style, Scruples is the salon to get it done. I've tried many salons in Chicago and this by far is the best. I had an appointment with Sam. I arrived early and he greeted me immediately. After a consultation, he proceeded to work his magic. Paul stepped over and they both answered questions I had. I'm a former hair model, so I'm very picky when it comes to my hair. Sam made me feel comfortable, and watching his technique was like watching an artist at work. My son has been in RIC for over a month and my short haircut was beginning to look flat and shaggy. Based on other reviews, I made an appointment with Nina. She was wonderful. Most hair stylist do not understand the concept of "please trim off 1/2 inch" and always cut way too much off. Nina held up my hair and confirmed how much I wanted cut before she ever touched it with sissors. She did a great job, my hair looks like it was cut by my usual stylist. I can only vouch for hair color/cut and pedicure - 5 star. I first chose this saloon for its use of Goldwell color, often difficult to find and the very best for me in staying power. Noreen tweaked my formula ever so slightly to make my blonde even more natural looking and gave me an even nicer version of the layered, face-framing, but still long-ish hair style I've enjoyed in my past two homes. It's always hard to move and trust a new person with hair, but Noreen is as good a listener as a stylist and I was soon at ease. Have now had hair colored and cut by her multiple times over 6 months, and my husband has become a regular customer as well. Son was very happy with his cut there while visiting over the summer also. Yes, you will find a mix of customers here that is perhaps unique in a "fancy" neighborhood -- from senior residents of the building to young students of the nearby universities. And the place may lack showy, ostentatious feel - but do you really want that? I don't. If your priority is a well done cut and color in a comfortable atmosphere, this is the spot. read more

I waited for my stylist for 25 minutes and she never showed up. I had booked my appointment a week in advance for a 10am color and cut. At 10:25, I asked the receptionist if she never how much longer it would be before the stylist arrived, and she told me that she didn't know and that she only handles the spa and not the hair salon. I then asked the receptionist if the stylist even knew that she had a client waiting, and the receptionist said she didn't know. Nobody else was working there. I left. I was very upset because I had canceled my whole morning for this appointment. I'm stunned at the lack of professionalism here. read more

Recently moved to Chicago and was so happy to find a fabulous hair salon in the heart of Streeterville. The salon is completely remodeled and full of energy. I have very long thick hair, which is not easy to manage. I was very pleased with my cut, color and style. I just moved into the area and it was time for a haircut. I decided to try out Scruples since it is across the street from my residence. I walked in and checked in at the counter. The lady who checked me in told me to walk and go find my hair stylist. This is my first time there so I do not even know who I am looking for. I roamed around aimlessly and embarrassingly, but no one acknowledged me. I also noticed that there is no waiting area. I finally asked a lady doing nails with a customer for help finding him. She just pointed and told me to sit in any stylist chair. I had nowhere to put my coat or my bag and no one offered to take it for me so I just put it on the hairy floor. I saw a guy talking on his cell phone in the back - maybe that is who I was waiting for (and it was). After a couple minutes my stylist finally found me. He did not introduce himself. He did not ask my name. He did not even say "hi". He just waved, pointed, tapped me on the shoulder and played charades in order to communicate with me. I felt very awkward throughout the whole experience. Maybe there was a language barrier that prevented him from talking, but I think he should at least know how to introduce himself in English if that is the case. The hairstylist did take his time with my hair, and I was satisfied with the result. However, I doubt I will return due to the awkwardness and lack of professionalism. read more

My first appointment was with Nina for a shampoo and blow dry, and I've been going to her ever since. I thought Scruples would just be another overpriced salon but was very pleasantly surprised. As others have said below about Phoebe's manicures and pedicures, she has a really caring attitude and does a really thorough job. My feet feel completely different when she is done. It is easy to miss the fact that Scruples does manicures and pedicures as you walk by the very, very long shop in the 680 Lakeshore Building, it looks like it is a store selling hair products but they do, do pedicures and manicures. I have tried other pedicures in the neighborhood but Phoebe's is the best by far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
