Super clean cute modern salon. I was pampered here by Felix who took amazing care of me!! I was lucky to find a Groupon for color, cut and blow out for a little under $80. Felix took his time on my hair and has a VERY relaxing gentle touch as well as a soothing voice. I felt sooo relaxed in his chair! ! I went there to get a balayage with Haley. To start off I got a weird vibe from her. She wasn't friendly at all and didn't try to engage in conversation so that made the appointment a little awkward. She took 10 minutes to do my balayage and then sat me under a heat lamp for 30 minutes and then proceeded to tell me that she doesn't have time to dry my hair. I booked the appointment online which said the appointment I had scheduled was for 1 hour and 45 minutes for a balayage. They only put me down for 1 hour. She said the styling was extra, which is fine but no one would style it for me. She sits me down and asks me what type of brush I want so I can blow dry it myself .... I've never been to a salon where they color your hair and don't blow dry it and style it. The salon never called me to ask if I would like a blow dry, that is a lie. Wow. All I can say is wow (and not the good kind of wow). Where do I even begin... I had an appointment with Hailey on Tuesday 3/12. I guess you could say it all started going wrong while she was washing out the color. She was mentioning that she had a haircut and could send me home with wet hair and I told her sorry I can't really hear you with this water in my ears... she said that she had a haircut appointment but could send me home with wet hair or I could wait to get it blown dry. I told her I wanted to see my hair dry before I left, so she said okay I have to finish my haircut and then we will dry your hair. After waiting an hour, she was finally ready to finish me. When I sat in the chair and looked in the mirror I mentioned I was a bit concerned with how gold it looked and asked if it was just because it's wet. She started to blow dry the front pieces and they turned out to be fine. After she was done she said bye and disappeared. Never handed me a mirror to look at the back, didn't toss my hair around to show dimension, never asked again that I was happy. I went to check out and to my surprise, the price was higher than what I had booked for online. I voiced my concern and the front desk girl offered to go get Hailey so I could talk to her directly, however, the desk girl came back with no Hailey. Hailey told her she charged me for toner and blow dry and that it wasn't included and that's why it was more. I asked for her to come to talk to me but she would not. At this point I had been there for over 4 hours and was furious. As soon as I got home and looked closer at my hair, I saw the disaster. My roots were gold. I face timed my cousin who said I looked like I had gold spray paint on my roots. The pictures attached are from not even an hour after leaving the salon. I hoped that if I showered it would look better... maybe something was still there that shouldn't? I called on Thursday morning 3/14 after giving it 24 hours. I asked for a manager, the guy said he was, and after explaining my story said he would have to talk to the owner and have her call me. She returned my call Wednesday 3/21, after I had called a second time on 2/20 almost a week after I first called and voiced concern and over a week after my appointment. The owner was probably now the best part... she told me that online when you book, the prices show "Starting at". Please see screenshots below which do NOT say starting at but just show a set cost. She also said that the toner is part of the service but the reason the prices show "starting at" (but they don't, photos attached). She also said that the blow dry was an added service. She did not offer to correct my hair, she did not offer to reimburse me, she only argued with me. I mentioned how I felt that Hailey should've said you need toner and it'll be an extra $20 is that okay, and that I thought it was shady and not transparent. Kristen, the owner, then said well did you ask how much it was?............... In summary, if you want to go to a place that will just add services without you knowing they are added, this is your place. If you want gold blonde instead of white blonde, this is your place. If you want to speak with the owner and feel disrespected and unappreciated as a customer, this is your place. If you want a salon that cares about their customers, is honest and works hard to provide a great service, this is NOT your place. read more

I was taken in by Felix for a single process color and a haircut. Felix did a great job on the haircut. However I am disappointed with the color service. Felix was good to pick up the color and it blended well with my base hair. But he did not cover my hair at all with the single process coat. I was particular about my crown area and kept mentioning to him to recheck my coverage. I came home to find grey hair still shining. Felix is soft and gentle and gave good overall service but he clearly missed to achieve coverage with my hair treatment. I feel like I have wasted my bucks since single process was my primary reason for the salon visit. I have been trying to call this salon but reach voice message every time and no one has responded to my voice messages too. Kristin - Thanks for response. Is there a number I could reach? I had to take the time to write a review, this salon is so incredible and I absolutely love Kristin. She makes you feel like you're best friends right off the bat. I did not need to do a lot of explaining as to what I was looking for when it came to my color and extensions. Which is exactly what you want in a stylist, someone that just gets it! Natural beaded row extensions are the absolute best, I will never go back to tape ins! I have had this type of extension from another stylist in the past, and their is no comparison to the hair that Kristin uses. They are manageable and style well everytime. I used a Groupon to try this salon and was excited as I read some good reviews and have always been curious since I frequently walk by this location. Let me preface: I used to work in an upscale salon years ago and I admit, I can be a tough judge with service and atmosphere.. however Im my opinion I feel these are important factors since an average expectation in heading to a salon as a female is that it is your oasis for beauty and you should leave feeling good. Upon entry I found the location minimalist, cute and tidy. It has an open and crisp ambiance to it. The receptionist however, was semi friendly and also was not one for a first impression. She was not well put together. A receptionist in my opinion is the salons first impression and best marketing effort, in addition to the Stylists themselves. She offered to take my coat, handed me a robe and also offered a beverage. As I waited to find out who my Stylist was, I sat on the couch observing the place and was on/off my phone surfing the web. I noticed a woman whom I was unsure of she was a Stylist at first. As she was pacing while on her phone, I could not help but hear her conversation regarding her new customer getting a service done. She spoke loudly a couple feet away and without repeating the conversation, all I can say is that it was NOT positive. My initial feeling was hope in that this Stylist was not mine. I should've asked the receptionist, regrettably I did not. Fast forward....This "pacing" Stylist was mine and although friendly, she was a little scissor happy and cut too much off as in inches. I did not ask for anything complex: keep the style the same, possibly an inch shorter and to remove some bulk since I have thick hair. On the spot it was styled well in which I told her. It also was much lighter but when you take inches off naturally it would be. I felt like I couldn't complain since they can't return your hair. How do you also go back, even if they choose to refund you or comp service for next time if you feel disappointed and loss of faith initially. Nonetheless I didn't bother to exercise my disappointment. The haircut was not terrible (as in take the day off work), but it was not good. This is my favorite salon. Yes, I have been to others and this is beyond a standard salon. Kristen is absolutely the best colorist out there by far. Hailey has been coloring my mom's hair....yes, my "I only want the perfect color" mom, so she is extremely happy. Kristen has the knowledge and ability to make anyone's hair red carpet worthy. Made an appt in advance for a hair cut on new year's eve. Complemented the girl, Haily, who was going to cut my hair over Instagram and even confirmed the day with her as well as the receptionist when making the appointment. I paid for a baby sitter for my 9 month old to have a "me" day and walked 1.5 miles in icy cold Chicago weather to be told that they couldn't find my appointment in the system. They tried to book me with a junior stylist when I came all that way for someone who charges $70+ for a haircut. I was also repeatedly accused of being there before because they had someone in the system with the same exact name as me, but different phone number. Yes, I have an ethnic name, but believe it or not it is actually very common in the Indian community. Found that to be a bit racist. Don't recommend this place. Take your money elsewhere. read more

How can a stylist cut double of what you asked & especially after telling you that your hair is healthy and you don't need much off?? My stylist was Todd & he was really nice.. the cut would be great if it was what I wanted. I'm on the fence with this place. I had Joe cut and style my hair. He did a good job, but he spoke approximately 10 words (all strictly hair-related) from beginning to end and it sort of made me feel like there was anywhere else he'd rather be anywhere else than doing my hair. I get it, I was a 5pm appointment and maybe he had a bad day and just wanted to go home. That's chill. But everyone around us was chatting away happily with their stylists, that it just gave me an uncomfortable vibe that we were on a bad date or something. Combined with him checking his phone while doing my hair (honestly? HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! AVOID this salon, they destroyed my hair!! It looks like a 4 year old took scissors to it. The red flags lined up with this salon and it was my own fault for not walking out. I was the only person in the salon. The Front desk girl suggested to put the cape over my winter coat, for a cut and color. While sitting in the chair I was informed that a single process was only roots and its an upcharge if I want all my hair colored. I contacted the owner Kristin Wallace, whom I don't even thinks lives in Chicago to know what is going on in the salon. This was my first time at Salon O Sixty- Five and had such a wonderful experience! The salon is beautiful and light and has a great energy. I feel like a jerk because I can't remember his name and I even asked him but the gentleman at the front desk who greeted me was inviting and very friendly. It made me feel comfortable, especially it being my first time. Hailey was amazing. She took my boring brown hair and made it beautifully blonde. On top of that, I needed to leave by a certain time and she worked extra hard and diligently to get me out on time and looking great. Going to the salon and getting your hair done is supposed to make you feel good. At the beginning of the appointment Hailey stated, "this is your time." I'm rather disappointed with my experience at Salon O Sixty-Five, which I'm surprised to say because my first appointment, which was with Cynthia, was amazing. Unfortunately, I had two other stylists in the three appointments since then and have left the salon each time feeling more and more upset. Not only was my color not matched correctly the last 3 times, but I was left with excess color all over my face. I also was surprised to pay $165 more than the other times) the last time because apparently "all of the stylists have different prices." I left the salon this last time missing color on the very center of my hair line above my forehead. Part of me is kicking myself for not giving more instruction during the process with the stylists, but I didn't want to come off as controlling or bitchy. *sigh*. I had high hopes but will not be returning here. They are very sweet but for me, the attention to detail is lacking. Update: just got home and assessed the damage. The hair color is very bad and way off from what I had; you can clearly tell I had it colored as my roots are different than the rest of my head. I have an audition and a film shoot tomorrow. Update 10/16: It took a little while, but I was able to sit with the owner who took great care to fix my color. She's friendly and knowledgeable, and she has given me some very helpful simple at-home tips on how to give my hair more lift and avoid frizz. When I got married, Lesley came from the salon to our wedding venue to do my hair and help the bridesmaids with their hair too. Lesley was recommended for curly hair too and she was great; she did a beautiful careful job and I was happy with the result. I loved her energy and her professionalism, both in our communication and in person. She was timely and responsive to questions and requests. This is the new location for this salon. It just relocated on Tuesday. I had never been to salon O 65 before but discovered them on Groupon, and came in for a cut and color. I called to make an appointment and I was booked with Georgia. Georgia was so nice, helpful and informative. She has been in the industry a long time and really knows her stuff. She gave me a clean cut and soft color to help fix my brassy color from last year. I was happy with my results and she gained a new client out of me. Horrible experience!! This was my second visit to the salon for a haircut, color, and also a cut for my hair extensions. I returned to the salon because my experience with Todd was amazing. He did an awesome job and was extremely friendly last time he had cut/colored my hair. This time around, I was scheduled to see Georgia... Let me just start by saying, she provided terrible customer service! Prior to arriving, I called the salon to inform them that I was running 15 mins late and if that was okay. The receptionist told me it would be no problem at all. When I walked in, I apologized for my lateness to the receptionist, and also to Georgia when she came to greet me (it wasn't much of a greeting at all). No handshake, no introduction, no nothing. I apologized to her for being late as well. She said nothing in return, as if she didn't even care to acknowledge my apology. I sat in her chair to explain to her what I wanted done, and she decided to start with trimming my hair, and then proceeded to clip a few extensions into my head to give them a few layers. First off, she was extremely rough in the way that she was handling my extensions. She did not handle them with care at all, which was so inconsiderate. Anyhow, she asked why I decided to buy the brand of hair extensions that I bought (Bellami hair extensions, which, through months of research , they are apparently the best hair extensions out there for consumers to purchase). She then asked how much I paid for them (about $300), and she began saying how that was a bit on the cheaper side of extensions. What?! From all my research of the various companies out there, $300 is more on the expensive side! Anyways, I didn't really say much to that, and kept my comments to myself. She then began telling me how my extensions are actually "not that good" and how they aren't soft (this was incorrect...they're probably the softest extensions I've ever had, and reviews will fully support that). Anyways, she could have kept her ugly opinion to herself, but I let that go, even though I felt a bit annoyed at this point. She then directed me to the other side of the salon so that I could sit down for an all over color. Georgia seemed like she was in such a rush to color my hair. My hair has never been colored so fast ever before. I don't even know why she was in such a rush, since I had initially booked an appointment for color AND belayage highlights, but ended up not needing to get the highlights...so her time frame for my appointment was actually more than what she needed, even with me being 15 mins late... My hair was washed and I was directed to Georgia's seat for a blow out. She told me to sit in her chair, and while doing so, her tray of scissors and combs toppled over and everything fell to the floor (I put my foot down on the silver foot rest before sitting down, and the chair plunged forward...I didn't know that the chair isn't bolted into the ground!). Regardless, I kindly apologized to her and fixed the tray while she bent down to pick up the combs and scissors. She again didn't even acknowledge my apology and looked extremely pissed off, so I apologized again, maybe a total of three times. She didn't acknowledge any of my apologizes (no 'it's okay', no nothing) and looked so angry. Then she said 'ugh I think one of my sheers broke', and angrily put everything into her drawer. A single word was not said to me while she was blow drying my hair. I felt extremely uncomfortable and also appalled as to how a person, who's job is to provide customer service, could be soo rude and unprofessional, even though through the entire experience I was nothing but nice to her. Too nice I'd say. Due to how uncomfortable I felt, I told her that it was alright and I didn't need her to dry my hair, so she stopped and walked over to the receptionist while I gathered my belongings. I eventually walked to the desk to check out, and she walked away. Didn't even say bye or anything! I left some extra cash with the receptionist to leave for Georgia (not for her customer service, but for those scissors of hers that she was so angry about). Anyways, I will definitely never return to this salon. Next time, I'll be sure to read all Yelp reviews prior to booking an appointment at a salon. I made the mistake of not doing so this time around, since I assumed everyone at this place would be just as kind as Todd was my first time there. I guess that was a wrong assumption to make!! I need a haircut and searched for a groupon near work. I ended up at Salon O Sixty-Five with Joe. As a previous review mentioned, he is quiet. I didn't mind the lack of small talk - actually appreciated the quiet. More importantly, it is clear from the haircut that I receive that he listened when we did talk. I had asked for a change and an actual style that would suit my hair and face, even if it was a big change. Joe delivered!
