I was hoping for a different result with my haircut. I had asked for a butterfly haircut with face-framing curtain bangs and tapered layers to get some lightness and volume but the outcome ended up being a mediocre haircut. I even showed some photos just to give her the idea of what I really wanted. Unfortunately, the back hair was so heavy and not layered literally a blunt straight cut. Some strands were uneven on the temple area. And I do not have any curtain bangs as desired. My hair is thick and needs texturing and thinning shears to give it that nice flow. I was expecting something softer and more textured. I just wanted to share this feedback to tutor stylist on some popular haircuts. Two years ago I visited Cressida and was impressed with her skills however I do remember when she worked on me she accidentally burned my forehead with the heat from her flat iron and accidentally knocked one of my earrings from my ears while using her heating tool. The reason why I'm leaving two stars here tonight is because I recently gave her another chance thinking she Might listen to me and surprise me with a good hair reshaping. Last week I saw Cressida and explained that two years ago I received short layers from a man who owned a private salon in Lakeview. I told her it was taking a very long time to grow the layers out and that I'm just in need of a reshaping. I asked her to cut my hair wait due to my wavy 2c curl pattern but she refused to listen to me and decided to instead flat iron my hair. I left with thinned out hair and tried to be gracious. But on Sunday I got my hair wet and noticed she had removed too much weight off my bottom layer and my hair felt much lighter and took only about 30 minutes to dry instead of two hours! I thought it looked more wavy than curly and thought ok I can deal with it but recently I put my shampoo throughout and as it dried I literally say a lot of stringiness in the front of my face. I realized she had followed an old line pattern from the original person who had given me short layers at my crown. It's like she didn't listen to me at all and she put those short layers everywhere even throughout the back of my head. She literally violated my trust and tonight I noticed burn marks on the sides of my forehead where her flat iron accidentally touched my skin. I scheduled a consultation with the owner and showed him how the cut looked curly and explained it definitely wasn't a cut I asked for because my goal was fewer layers and long hair. I asked him what exactly had Cressida done because I almost felt it could be intentional. I didn't mention she hurt me with the flat iron while touching my fringe. He said Cressida gave me collapsible layers extending my hair to make it look "longer". I literally cried in front of him because since wearing it curly this week all compliments to my hair have stopped. When I had cut my own hair I received compliments to my hair but after Cressida "blended" layers I am left with short layers that will definitely not grow out beautifully. Moving forward i will be going to a curly hair specialist or at least not cutting anything for several months. The owner did agree to refund me in full and at least he listened to me. The reason I'm writing this review is because I see that Cressida put me a full year behind my goal. She removed too much weight off my bottom layer and added too many layers which gave me short layers all over again which I was patiently growing out. These are recent photos. I'm relieved Salon buzz issued me a refund but I'm very disappointed that Cressida chose to cut my hair by adding too many layers when my hair is so fine. I'm not sure why she insisted on using a flat iron to cut my hair when I warned her how curly my hair is. read more

I visited for a consultation before getting extensions and color. I was quoted $1,600 and specifically asked if that was the maximum price. The stylist checked with Sam, the extension specialist, who confirmed that was the max. Based on this, I paid an $800 deposit and ordered 5 packs of 22-inch Bellami hair. After second-guessing my color choice, Sam ordered 3 other shades, but failed to tell me that one of those was only available in 24-inch extensions which are more expensive. On the day of my appointment, I had to ask to see the extensions before they were colored and installed. They showed me three colors outside the packaging, but still didn't tell me some were 24 inches. Since they were all light shades,I went with a custom color instead. Despite having already told them I never use box dye, the colorist asked again and I explained I only use professional dye, and even listed the levels and developer. Yet, she still messed up my color three times: 1. I ended up with bright orange roots and dark red/brown hair 2. She tried to fix an uneven patch, but my roots were still orange. 3.The assistant suggested they could just install the extensions first and fix the color after which is completely unacceptable because you cannot wet K-tip extensions immediately after installation. I had to explain this to a professional. After this, the colorist made my roots dark brown, which was not the all over even color I wanted at all. After 4.5-5 hours of color, Sam suggested not installing all of my extensions, despite me telling her I liked my previous extension applications with all of them in. I kept saying the hair felt too thin in places, particularly around my face, but she still rushed through the application and mentioned her boyfriend's parents were cooking dinner so i felt bad keeping here there as it was almost 9. At checkout, I was told I owed an additional $1,280, bringing my total to $2,080,which was $480 more than the quoted price. They never informed me during the service that things were being added on nor did I know 24 inch hair was being added to my hair for more money without my consent. When I checked my receipt, I found that they charged me for extensions I never ordered and for more than I could buy them for online myself, even though they get a professional discount. I messaged Sam to express my dissatisfaction with the uneven color and thin extensions around my face. The next day, I called the salon, and the manager (blonde with an accent) was extremely rude, accusing me of using box dye, even though I had explicitly told them I had not. After several exchanges, she admitted that they had put 24-inch hair in my head without informing me and charged me for it. When I asked why they couldn't just color 5 packs for 22inch if they did 3 and she had no answer. They only refunded me $170 after I had spent $2,000. $75 for the unquoted root glaze, 40 color that i have to get redone anyways, and $50 for the 22-inch vs. 24-inch price difference. They even called me a scammer during the call. when they added things without consent. I've been to Salon Buzz for years and never checked my receipts, trusting them. I left with uneven color, thin extensions bc i have them at 2 different lengths. and had to cut my own hair at home because the ends were straggly. BLACK...like a weird-and very permanent-magenta black! It was awful and it took weeks to find the right person to do a color correction. Emily was super reassuring that she could fix my hair and also very honest that I might need a few visits as to not fry my hair! Ok so. I am doing a review on the river north location. The person who washed my hair: Claire: was the worst person who could ever wash. She didn't touch my hair or massage my scalp. This situation never happened to me, so I'm leaving this here. The stylist sophia was alright. I asked for volume but she made my hair flat, but the cut itself was also atrocious. I even showed her photos of what I wanted. I just don't understand. This has been the worse experience I've ever had a a hair salon- and when I tried to talk to them at the desk they were so dismissive, and I don't really do that kind of a thing, that's how bad it was. Not worth 110$. Save ur money- I was crying after I left because my hair looked so bad !! Like it just made me so sad. Update: I commented on their instagram and they blocked me. I have been a very long time client at Salon Buzz in River North. Recently my amazing colorist Nora has left so I am looking for another colorist. At my child's school auction I had bought a gift certificate for a hair color, cut and blow dry. It is not even a year old but sadly Aldina the manager said that Lauren the colorist will not redeem the hair color certificate anytime after 90 days... I sometimes do not even color my hair in a span of 60 days. What a shame and certainly not customer focused so I will be taking my business somewhere else! read more

I had platinum blonde hair and went in to get low lights and even provided a picture for how I wanted them to look to Taylor. Instead she gave me a single process and darkened all of my hair as well as left it with reddish and greenish hues. To make matters worse, I was lied to and told that another colorist would lighten up my hair but instead she did partial highlights that left my hair looking like a striped skunk. I was basically told by the manager and general manager, Aldona that after I was refunded for their first screw up from darkening my hair, that they would not fix their second screw up and told me to just deal with it in so many words. The pics that I posted are the before pic, the next one is after their first screw up of darkening my whole head to the last pic of being told by management that this was the best they could to fix their horrendous work. Exactly what I was looking for and the whole process was very speedy, not like other salons I've been to. 5 stars for Taylor, for sure! 3/5 stars overall due to the fact that blow drying is not included in the service, for $200 you would expect it, but to each their own. After my last review on my haircut, the manager Aldona reached out to me to give me a credit for my haircut which I then used to get my hair colored with Amanda. I got my haircut fixed elsewhere with someone I trusted with my hair. Amanda, however, was great at color so I continued to see her at salon buzz. Then I got an email stating that Amanda would be moving and I got a complimentary 50% off to try someone new. I decided to take advantage of the discounted rate and called to make an appt. I let the receptionist know I was going from red to blonde and I need someone with experience. I won't mention who took care of me but that experience was just awful. This person was not listening to what I was saying and just did her own thing. My hair looked awful. She tried to make me feel better by saying that she thought it looked great and that it turned out better than she was expecting. I'm not a hair expert by any means, but I know what pretty hair should look like. Also the full price cost was $290. There was also a point where the hairstylist messed up my hair and used extra toner to fix it and tried to charge me. They told me $350 at the cash wrap. And I told them I refused to pay for the extra cost when she quoted me $290 when I first sat in her chair. My mind was blown by the whole experience. I wrote salon buzz another review on that experience and Aldona again reached out. She set me up with their colorist educator, Sheri. I showed Sheri photos of what I was looking for then showed her what the other hairstylist had done. Her face said it all. She knew that the other stylist didn't do a good job and even said that stylist doesn't usually do color like I was asking for. Now onto my experience with Sheri. She was absolutely delightful. My hair was beautiful after she was done and I just appreciated how detail oriented she was. She took her time and made me feel like she was going to give me the results I was looking for or as close as she can get. I would definitely go back to see Sheri and highly recommend her. I'm giving 4 stars just because I wish all the hairstylists were just as good as one another so you don't have to feel like you have to try a few before you find someone good... I was really excited to try Salon Buzz for the first time. However, I did not like my end results. I showed the original stylist a picture for inspiration: going from my black roots and blonde hair into a warm brown with light highlights. I did receive full head of highlights yet my base was still black and the "glaze" they did to blend it out, did nothing to my hair. Overall, you can see the harsh line on my hair where the black cuts off at. They say if you don't like your hair they can fix it for free yet when another stylist seen my picture, realized it needed to be fixed; I would've had to pay an additional amount for another service and I simply did not find that fair. The original stylist was nice and professional but truly went the opposite color direction from what I wanted and the salon did not realize it was in their policy to fix. read more

[REVIEW REPOSTED BECAUSE YELP TOOK DOWN] I usually get my haircut at one of two places in Bucktown since that's where I work/live but had to meet a client downtown and was suggested Salon Buzz as being one of the best. I made an appointment and was paired with Diti who I found out is fresh out of the training program. Seems like a bit more training would've done her well. I explained I don't like to style my hair or spend much more time than combing it to get ready. I'm not a fan of using products and want something that doesn't require styling or much time. Never had a problem getting an appropriate haircut like this before. After explaining this I see her roll her eyes which should've been my first sign to politely ask for someone else. She then spent the vast majority of the haircut looking out the window (seriously! Looking out the window while cutting my hair!) or talking to the stylist next to her. At the end of the hair cut she asked what kind of product I wanted and I had to explain again that I don't really use any. After getting home my partner immediately commented on how my hair looked (and not a positive comment) and sure enough, the next day I found it impossible to get it to lay correctly - eventually needed to go to the store to buy something to help keep certain parts from sticking up. After that I went to my regular stylist who explained how certain sections weren't blended well and luckily was able to fix it a bit (though it's still going to take time to grow back to how I like it). This is supposed to be a good salon and maybe other stylists there actually listen and provide a good service. But for what they charge every stylist should be top-notch and that's not the case at all. Stay away from Diti! read more

I've moved here from New York City and have been looking for a salon who can up-par with salons in New York! I've tried most high- named salons (which I will not name- since I will one day need them for help? Lol but you know who they are!) but Salon Buzz GoldCoast just has it all! In the beginning I was very skeptical going in, and did not have the best experience with my first haircut, but when I got a fix with the owner, Andreas, I knew this was the place! He knew exactly what I wanted and his skills just nailed it! I'm used to going into Fredrick Fekkai, Sasoon, younghee salon..etc,... when you usually go to a salon, you have to build somewhat relationship to understand what the client wants, but he was so confident and professional! So that being said- recently as a mom of two toddlers, I needed an emergency haircut and made an appt with Dite. She was this energetic, fun, happy and like her boss, confident stylist that we hit it off right away! I had so many requests- since mommy's don't have so much time to get ready all the time- and she made me feel very comfortable with the style I was getting and was just awesome! I loved how she carried herself and her conversations were so professional and her recommendations on hair products were so helpful yet- not so aggressive! I just have to say I fell in love with this salon all over again and if you need a new stylist, call DITE! (Pronounced - DEety- sorry if I'm wrong ) I usually don't write so much on yelp, but I really love her vibe and her skills that I wanted to let people know that there's a little gem in the heart of Gold Coast! Get your color done by Lauren and blow outs by Dina or Jackie! Before I grew a brain and came to Salon Buzz about a year and a half ago, I went to a terrible salon--C Salon--that ruined my hair (see my other reviews). Lauren brought my hair back to "publicly acceptable" with SB's corrective color. And ever since, my hair has gotten fuller, longer, healthier, and more beautiful with every appointment! You won't believe how quickly Lauren will do your hair...I have huge thick, down to the middle of my back hair and she gets me in and out fast and efficiently. I can't believe how much hair she gets to in such a small amount of time. I get my blow outs by Dina (the goddess of porn-voluminous hair and "real talk" :), but I have also had Jackie do them when Dina was out of the country. Jackie couldn't be nicer, funnier! She's a great listener and an incredible stylist! Btw, got a great hair washing by Pam M today. Her neck massage almost made me make incredibly inappropriate noises while my head was in the bowl, and I had to stop myself from drooling due to extreme relaxation. ;) TIP YOUR HAIR WASHERS TOO, gals! This is a great salon. It is a bit more expensive, but I find the service and end results warrant the cost. Amanda does my color and I get compliments all the time. She is nice and consistently asks what's working and if I want to change anything with the seasons. She is also v Jerry does my cut and he has been amazing. I came to him with a mess and he has worked with me for months growing it out and changing his techniques with each cut to get me to a place I love with my hair. He also is very good about working with me on ideas. I have brought him pictures and he has been open to all my ideas, but also explained what my hair can do and what it can't, as well as letting me know how much time it will take to get to a certain look due to needing to grow parts out, etc. Jerry is by far the best stylist I have ever had. He also is very interesting to talk to and that's an added bonus when you are in the chair. Update: 7/25/18. I wanted to add an experience today to my review. I can't give them a higher rating, but I want people to be aware of the type of service and compassion this salon has. I called today after not having been in the salon for 5 months due to breast cancer and chemo. When I called to make an appointment to color my hair, which is about an inch long, I explained that I wanted to book a slower time in the salon since I was self conscience. The receptionist could not have been more kind or accommodating. She explained the slow times and why they were slow and the best time and day. She was amazing and very understanding. I've went to Salon Buzz a few years because my then girl friend made an appointment for me. I got a wonderful haircut and kept coming back. My stylist left but she recommended me to go see Avery and she has given me hands down the best haircuts I've had in my life (better than my original person). She takes my hair and cleans it up to show off the good points and hides some of my few gray hairs. She also gives great advise on how to style my hair and even the best way to make my beard look great. After every haircut from Avery, I feel unstoppable. This is a review (only) for Laura the hairdresser/colorist. Awful!!! Absolutely burned my otherwise healthy hair. I walked in a blond and walked out with ashy, over-prossesd dull hair and with stripes colored 1/2' in. off the hairline. I looked like a zebra. She has the personality of a bump on a log and at those prices I felt gipped. I don't know how she is allowed to work there when clearly not qualified. Best for a suburban salon at some corner mall. The space itself is beautiful, although super busy and too closely packed with chairs and clients chatting super loud under the hairdryers about personal stuff I'd rather not know about. Whilst my experience with getting my hair colored was less than stellar my actual haircuts have been fantastic. I have never loved a hair stylist more than I have loved Kylie. People, she knows hair! She knows which hair style is appropriate for your face, hair and personality. She knows how to make your hair look good on you. If you are in need of a new hairstylist who not only listens to your wants and concerns but also has the knowledge and skill to make it happen, then make an appointment with Kylie. This is a very busy salon in the Gold Coast area. I was told they specialize in blonds, Katie did my color and it was spot on. What I wasn't told is that I had to book a cut and blow out separately after my color. Luckily they had a few cancellations so Molly was able to do a trim and blow out. She was also a pro. My hair looked fantastic but I wish she would've put a bit of pomade or anti frizz cream as I had flyaways on top. I had heard so many great things about this salon on Instagram, and I loved my haircut at the other location. However, I had a less than great experience spending over $200 here on hair color that left me with stripes in my hair. I know nothing about terms or techniques, and the last time I had my hair colored was back in high school. But I knew one thing: I wanted ombré. And I mentioned this, showing photos of ombré hair that I liked -- not too stark of color differences and a smooth transition from dark to light. When I'd called to make the appointment over the phone, I was told that Jill was the "ombré expert," and she seemed to understand what I wanted from looking at the photos. I mentioned I wanted blonde and wanting to be a lot lighter, missing what the sun did to my hair when I lived in California. I still think it sounds pretty simple! Especially for such a fancy salon. But what I got was just plain highlights. Streaky highlights. You have to dry your hair yourself, which I know is pretty standard, but when I was all by myself on a different level blowdrying my hair, it wasn't only underwhelming, it was confusing. As I dried it, there were pieces of blonde. When it was totally dry, I just saw streaks of blonde. Streaks weren't what I wanted! And when Jill found me, I mentioned being worried about the streaks. She agreed it was more heavily colored on one side due to where I parted my hair. But that's how my hair was parted when I came in... And she offered to tone it down at the top so the streaks started lower, but I was confused because that didn't seem like it would fix anything. When I got home, I saw in full light that the real issue was that it wasn't ombré at all. I called and asked to come back, and again, all that was offered was toner. Jill explained that my hair didn't take the toner (which was $25 extra) like the overly processed, damaged hair she was used to dealing with. So I needed to sit for longer. We went through this two more times, but the root of the problem was the color was just striped and streaky. After all the toning down, my roots felt so dry and damaged. My hair even felt sticky at the top, which was weird and kinda gross. Still, holding my ends up to my roots I didn't see a difference. It's not even as light as I get in the summer. When I explained this, I was told that adding more blonde to the ends would leave my hair feeling too damaged. And the photos I'd shown involved a base color and 3-4 visits of highlights. Uh, why wasn't I told this at the beginning? Why couldn't there have been a discussion of what the possibilities were before deciding I was destined for just dirty blonde highlights? My first visit was two hours, and my second one was two and a half merely because I was left sitting and waiting the majority of the time. They clearly didn't care about fixing my hair. I left basically in tears after the third round of toner being completely ignored. The stripes make me feel like a skunk, and every time I see my hair under bright light I consider buying a box dye to just make it all go away. So I went here a month ago because , I wanted to try a new colorist since my old colorist was always very conservative , I assumed it was going to be good since I'm not picky about my color and it's a well known salon ,but my experience unfortunately wasn't good at all I wanted highlights but balayage , I ended up with unblended highlights some areas where she didn't even get the toner in nothing what I had wanted , I had to go in again to get it toned and even after that I felt the job was very chunky and sloppy all over I don't even remember my colorists name she was nice but maybe it's wasn't a good day for her or something not going there again read more
