Had a fantastic appointment today with Sydney. She was so nice and great to talk to. I have a lot of hair and she was able to shampoo, deep condition and cut my hair all within an hour! Super happy with my cut. They have a big dressing room where you can hang out coats, so you don't have to play that game where you have no clue what to do with your huge parka. Their salon is HUGE! Lots of stations. I went when they first opened so most seats were empty but I can imagine how busy it gets on the weekends. Everyone wears masks and it looks like they clean pretty regularly. There is Park Chicago street parking our front or they validate on a near by garage for $18. I booked my appt for 9am and was able to find tons of parking right in front. read more

So rather than just accept valid criticism and apologize for not meeting a client's expectations, the, what I presume is the owner, private messages me to induce me to reveal my identity and then goes on a vitriol against me. I came in for a highlights. They did a test ran the Lexi left the process on my hair for 30 minutes. Have to tell me she would only leave it on for 15 so I got a little nervous. I want to talk to Felipe the manager next thing I know I'm being thrown out of the salon. The test are being ripped out of my hair, and the police are being called on me, I'll because I questioned the amount of time that she left my hair to process. AHHH!!! This is such an amazing salon and I loved my haircut from Tiffany! I came in a week ago asking for some pretty hefty layering and curtain bangs, but honestly I wasn't sure how short I wanted the curtain bangs. After having them cut safely around my cheeks for a week, I realized I definitely wanted them around eye level and came back today to get that. There is no walk-ins. Once your walk in the front desk, they will take you to the back you into a room where you can leave your jacket there. Don't leave your personal belonging there. Everyone there is super chill and easy to talk too. Sofia, is the amazing Colorist, I told her my vision what I want to color my hair. She agreed, and she did it. I love it. I told her I didn't want the color near my scalp and she heard my concern what I want for my hair and she followed it through. I would go back to her instantly, she is the best colorist, and the cool person to talk to. My stylist Casey, came back and checked how was doing and feeling about this new highlights. She was making sure that I was alright. This is what I like about this salon, is that are stylist is there making sure that are satisfied. Casey, I don't know where to begin. First, I went to her for my hair cut and man she killed it. I like really like it. Second time, I made an appointment with her. She and I talked, and I have no vision of what to do with my hair. Wonderful Salon. I have been coming to Charles Ifergan for 14 years! My mother has also been coming here for even longer. They have always had quality stylists and colorist that are so well trained. I moved to Atlanta about 6 years ago and after two bad haircuts and a disaster color ( in ATL) i have been flying back home to Chicago so that only Charles Ifergan Salon can touch my hair. Eddie has been my stylist for about 9 of those 14 years and is amazing. He has a great eye for cutting for your hair type, which is a real skill, to understand how hair texture will impact a great haircut. They used to be fairly reliable, but something's gone badly wrong, I went is for ash blonde highlights and a cut. I came out with red hair and a chop. I returned the next day and now have bright yellow stripes added to the red hair. It looks terrible. For what they charge, you'd hope they'd be able to at least semiprofessional work. I am writing this review because I was given an email address to send pictures of my hair that I am unsatisfied with. However, I was told the email would be sent to management, which is who turned me away to fix my hair. I was asked Thursday evening to return to the salon Friday afternoon for correction however the salon called me Friday asking me not to come in because there was nothing they could do for me. During my consultation with my colorist (not here to blast a name) I said I would like my roots to blend more/ melt with the blonde, & that I was open to tones as long as I did not leave looking gold (I came in Gold/orange) I have been lightening my hair gradually over the past 7 months, so I did not directly transition from a dark hue to light hue within my visit yesterday. Please know that this is not about the money I was actually refunded, but more so principle I was sent home looking and feeling terrible. Myself, my colorist, and the manger all knew it. I haven't been able to leave my house since I returned home from the salon because I am so insecure with the color I was sent home with. Almost every time I look in the mirror now I begin to cry. I was not at all looking for a refund I simply just wanted to leave the salon with hair that looked professionally done and that I felt confident in. I am disappointed with how I was treated I was very respectful with both the manager and my colorist Thursday night before leaving the salon even tho we all knew the color and placement were not okay. So having management turn their backs to me for my scheduled color correction was extremely hurtful and upsetting. I chose Charles Ifergan because of the well known name, I have many friends who are clients of the salon, and I enjoyed the service I received last time I visited but this time I was much different. read more

I was looking to buy a groupon for this salon, when making the appointment i was told not to buy the groupon and they would honor the price. I went to the appointment and my stylist told me that she would have to upcharge me by 50 dollars because of my length and thickness. This was never mentioned when I booked my appointment. The manager then came over and told me it was in the groupon but it was so hidden no one would have ever known. I ended up paying double the price because of the salons sneaky way to upcharge. I am very disappointed in this salon. Truly. I was so excited to come here because a good friend of mine recommended I try it out. They were offering a promotion on Groupon and so I went for it. I will NEVER buy a Groupon for color service AGAIN. I saw someone by the name of Sophia and she was not the friendliest. I get it, you don't have to be warm and fuzzy but in an industry like this you should at least be able to carry on a conversation. READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU GO HERE!!! The bad reviews at this place always end up seeing Sophia. Anyways my hair turns out like the photo below and I was appalled. I still walked out of the salon spending almost 200 dollars for a wack hair color. Clearly I was not thrilled so I went back and got a "re-do". I saw Sam who was super sweet and helpful and I ended up being happy with my hair. But the salon itself was very strange. They made me sit in a chair right next to the stylist who botched my hair and then the owner of the salon comes up to me and is extremely aggressive and tells me how I can't have a natural color to my hair because it is colored. Can hair not look natural? It was just bizarre. Then he started bossing around the stylist telling her exactly what to do with my hair. Pretty sure she didn't listen to a word he said but managed to fix it. She was GREAT. Another few odd things- there were at least 3 of us getting our hair "re-done" after they botched it the first time. Clearly this seems to be a trend at the salon. Despite the reputation and the stature of this legendary Oak St. salon, I was quite surprised by a recent experience involving not 1, but 2, back-to-back keratin treatments that I had undergone there. Having had multiple keratin treatments there in the past, this was the only remaining process that I would ever do at this salon . (I had, through the years, been given unsatisfactory cuts and colors there - but their keratin procedures, and product-line, worked very well for my hair.) So, I recently booked an appointment for a keratin treatment. The first treatment was a disaster. My hair ended up just as frizzy and damaged as it was before I walked in the door. Plus, they ruined the color that I had just applied at a different salon. When I went back in and they could see the damage, I was told that the keratin line that was used on my hair - by them - "WAS NO GOOD." Why would you use a product line that you do not feel confident about? So, they offered to do a 2nd keratin using their other product line - which I had done in the past at a different salon - and KNEW that it was not going to work on my hair. I voiced this concern and was told that the brand changed their ingredients and is a much better line now. What? One week later, I underwent a 2nd keratin treatment with this product line that, I KNEW, would not take to my coarse hair. And guess what - I am now frizzier than ever and my beautiful color - that was given at a different salon, is ruined. So, nearly $400 later - for the cost of the original keratin and gratuities - my head is a yellow frizzy mess. After trying to reach someone there for resolution, my frustration grew. I was "dismissed" multiple times. The salon has since refunded the cost of the original keratin, $300. However, I still have a "hot mess" on the top of my head. Bottom line: beware of Charles Ifergan for a keratin treatment - unless you want to look like you have a stack of hay on top of your head (or get a glimpse into what NOT TO DO when it comes to good customer service.)
