This review is for Freddy. I am visiting from out of town and looked on yelp last minute for a blowout by my hotel. Not a lot of blowout bars in this area, so went with this salon. So glad I did! Literally best blowout I've gotten! I got a scalp scrub (extra $30) so worth it, with a shampoo and blowout. Also reasonably priced for the quality of service. Let me tell you I get tons of blowouts and I am SUPER PICKY. I have extensions, thick unruly hair and he did magic! Gave it volume, did my bangs exactly how I wanted and the curls were perfection. If I lived here I'd probably go here all the time. Also everyone was really sweet and cute! It was snowing and they even gave me a shower caps to protect the hair! read more

I went in for a simple hair and bangs trim with Alyssa and had a terrible experience. On top of this, the Salon never responded to my emails, eventhough they claim to have offered to correct my haircut that I had supposedly declined! I asked for my hair to be cut to my collarbone, but it ended up about two inches longer than requested. When I pointed it out, she insisted it was the correct length. She blow dried my hair to crisps without any heat treatment. My hair was pulled repeatedly and my neck was scratched with the brush and her nails. Even after saying it hurt, the styling didn't improve. The final blowout was uneven, with some pieces flipping in and others out even though I asked for a straight style. If I could give a negative 5 stars I would. read more

June is amazing! I've been a client for the past few years and can confirm she is the perfect mix of fun and professional. She takes the time to understand her clients' needs and always goes the extra mile in taking care of them. 10/10 every time and highly recommend. read more

DANI IS THE BEST!!!! I don't write many reviews, but he DESERVES it. I can't recommend him enough. I have been going to him for years now and he completely transformed my hair. I'm leaving Chicago soon and whenever I come to visit, he will be my first stop. I have never gotten so many compliments in my life. He genuinely cares and remembers his people. My boyfriend goes to get his haircuts from Dani too. He refuses to go to anyone else. If you are looking for the best Chicago experience, you need to see Dani (Daniel) read more

I have gone to Alyssa at Zazú Gold Coast for a few times over the last year for my haircut. Each time she is careful to ask me what I want (long layers, face framing) and executes it to how I like! The saloon is clean and uses amazing brands. I always walk out looking great. Great price and location. read more

I will never go anywhere else for my hair as long as I live in Chicago. Last week on Wednesday, I walked into another salon with virgin hair requesting a brighter balayage, and left with the most horribly stripey highlights you've ever seen in your life. I booked an appointment at Zazu and showed up in tears. Daniel listened to me, what I wanted, and was able to completely transform my totally botched hair. He made me feel totally at ease and heard, and not only fixed the work of the other stylist, but gave me exactly what I wanted. As someone new to coloring my hair, I had no idea that my hair needed so much work what I should've booked was technically a "transformational color" which is a 7 hour appointment with a custom consult. Daniel got this done in four hours and never made me feel guilty for all of the work I had unexpectedly put on his plate. He pretty easily could've turned me away, asked me to reschedule, or just put a single process color on my hair and been done with it. Hair is emotional and totally tied to your confidence, and I walked in so embarrassed, and cried with happiness when I saw what Daniel was able to do to my hair. Zazu and Daniel both have a client for life! read more

Daniel is a treasure. I have trusted no one else with my hair for the last 7 years. He listens to what you want and will have a knowledgeable opinion based on the latest trends and what will work for your hair/face. Countless times I've walked out thinking this was the best haircut I've ever gotten. Even as my hair has started to thin over the last few years Dani still makes it look great. He is also really friendly and a cool, easy person to shoot the sh*t with. My shrink, friend, fashion advisor, and of course, stylist- Dani is the full package. read more

I have been going to Zazu Salon for 7 years and will never go anywhere else in Chicago for my cut and color. My husband and I moved to the suburbs last year and I still make the trip downtown to get my hair done because everyone here does such an amazing job :) I have had fantastic services with Lindsay, Lynett and Jane in the past but Carolyn is my most recent stylist and she does a wonderful job with both cut and color when I went back to brunette from being blonde. Everyone really cares that you love your hair and is willing to fix it or tweak if you aren't satisfied. I love that they provide product recommendations but aren't harassing you to buy things you don't need or overselling just make good suggestions. Also, they are always very forthcoming when explaining pricing and asking if you want to add things on to your service but it's never something that feels forced. :) Overall it's always a relaxing experience and I walk out feeling refreshed and happy with my hair! read more

One of my coworkers recommended Zazu for a local hair salon. I have been twice for a trim and had two different stylists and was very pleased with my haircuts! - Great location in Gold Coast, close to those who live downtown - Very friendly staff, always offer water after checking in - one time I went shopping beforehand and they offered to hold onto my purchase - Nice, clean boutique salon Pricing varies - there are options for those who are more budget conscious (Junior stylists start at $45) and there are various price points from $45 all the way up to $100++ (assuming stylists with more experience, etc. would be higher in price) I will be back in a few months for another trim. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a reliable hair salon! read more

After a horrific haircut (surprise bangs) this summer at a different Chicago salon, I literally hated my hair for 6+ months and was honestly afraid to try anywhere else. I bit the bullet and tried Zazu after reading the great reviews. My appointment was with Jess who was AMAZING. She was very attentive when I explained my hair issues and what I wanted done so that she could deliver perfectly. She was thorough, quick, professional and an all-around hair wizard. The next day I decided I wanted my new hair to be a couple inches shorter. I messaged Jess and let her know so we scheduled a follow up appointment. At the appointment, we discussed my wishes and she gave me my dream cut. I am OBSESSED. Jess knows what she's doing and she takes the time to listen and make sure she is giving you what YOU want, while also incorporating her style education to give you something you'll love but that also looks great. I love this place and Jess is a savior. 10/10! read more

My hair needed some major TLC so I decided to check out this place out because it's close to my apartment and also the groupon deal: 94 dollars for a highlight and partial baylage, which is almost robbery. I worked with the beautiful Zayna, who is a junior stylist (which is why you get the discounted rate.) Let me tell you I was not expecting to be this blown away with my hair. Zayna is amazing with her professionalism and talent. She is very busy and another one of her clients came in while I was getting my hair done and she didn't make me feel rushed or pushed aside. Her assistant helped her and was able to give both of us enough attention. That's really impressive. Zayna is on par with any senior stylist! I seriously got an amazing deal because what Zayna did to my my hair wasn't a junior stylist level. She really understands color and is able to work well with color treated hair. My hair was a challenge because I had had a single process color done so half of my hair was lighter than the rest as it grew out. I wanted a caramel, amber colored balayage because of my dark hair. I'm not a fan of yellowish, blond balayage in dark hair and told Zayna that. She not only got the color perfect, but also blended it to the Gods. I've had baylage before but I've never had it so beautifully blended. She is a miracle worker! So much so, I can't wait to go back to her for touch ups and I will gladly pay full price when she graduates in April. I've gone to junior stylists before and my appointments were long and I often came out with ok hair. If you're thinking about doing the groupon deal, don't hesitate. They even have a senior educator who comes around and makes sure that everything is perfect. But if Zayna is any indication, Zazu picks their stylists so well, they don't need to make many changes. Also another thing I appreciated was how kind everyone was. The reception girls, assistants, other stylists were very nice and made you feel relaxed. I originally came here for the amazing groupon price but I would gladly come back here and pay their regular rates. They have made me a regular client! read more

My favorite salon ever! I'm very hair crazy (as in, I care a hell of a lot about my hair) and Zayna is the ONLY person I trust to do it. I just left today after getting my first balayage ever! I've never colored my hair and Zayna put me at such ease and made my hair look better than I could have EVER imagined. I tell everyone I know to go see her. So obsessed with this salon and more obsessed with my favorite stylist eve UPDATE: Went in to see Zayna again because I can't stay away! She added more red and Auburn to my hair with some blonde highlights and it is so beautiful! Would recommend her to anyone ever! 10000/10 reccomend Zayna read more

I have to say, I was very wary of buying a Groupon for a haircut and balayage. The Groupon specified that a junior stylist would be doing the services. When I called them to make my appointment, the girl on the phone was very honest and said some junior stylists are just coming out of cosmetology school and need more hands-on experience. I soon learned that I had nothing to worry about! They took really good care of me. Lindsay was the junior stylist who did my hair. After talking to her though, I learned that she has quite a few years of professional experience, and was just starting out at Zazu. She did an awesome job with my balayage - I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she knew immediately what color to use. She colored my hair first, then cut it. I was very impressed with her skills! Getting your haircut by a junior stylist also includes a double check by a senior stylist, so if you are discontent with your hair, feel free to speak up! They're all about the learning experience for their less experienced stylists to ensure that their clients are happy. read more

I am notoriously unfussy about my hair and, as a result, it takes a lot to impress me (hard to disappoint, hard to impress). So the fact that I've gone out of my way to write a review about hair just shows how much Zayna blew me away. I've added a picture, but no picture can do justice to the absolute perfection of this balayage. The tones are GORGEOUS, somehow both dramatic and understated at the same time. If you've had underwhelming balayage experiences in the past, I beg you to give it another go with Zayna. You will be a convert for sure! Not to mention that she's an absolute delight -- passes the vibe check with flying colors! ;) read more

Debating writing this review because I don't want for it to be more difficult for me to make an appointment but have decided to do it anyways. Charlie is the BEST in chicago! I have blonde hair that easily picks up brassy colors if not done very carefully and taking a long time. She also does really good natural highlights that make your hair look better when it grows out. After moving to chicago I tried 4 other salons (6 people) before finding someone who could do it right! I once burned my hair off with a candle but had a Kentucky derby party the next day and she moved things around and got me in before the party. See u in 2 weeks! read more

I came into Zazu yesterday for a haircut with Sarah. Immediate vibes of the salon off the bat were professional but fun and comfortable. Being a bit of an introvert, walking in to a salon can feel intimidating but at Zazu I felt very much at ease. Sarah was patient and took time to discuss style in the chair before sitting me to wash. She gave me a bomb scalp massage. She was very attentive and continued to monitor the temperature throughout the entire wash. Once washed, time for a cut. Sarah was precise, and checked her work multiple times before moving on which I appreciated. Over all she gave me beautiful layers and the perfect lightweight face framing I wanted. My hair was super long and one length before. Sarah was able to maintain my length without compromising on the layers for movement. Not to mention she was so easy to talk to, meeting new stylists can be intimidating but she is an absolute peach! Thank you so much Sarah for such a lovely experience and a beautiful cut I can continue to enjoy! read more

I stumbled upon Zazu a few months ago through a Groupon and had one of their Junior stylists give me a haircut. I didn't have a picture of what I wanted, but we both came up with something that would suit my style and busy work schedule. I left feeling very satisfied however once I got home and washed it out the next day, it wasn't anything that I wanted. I called the salon back explaining my sentiments and they said they would try and help me out if I returned later that week. When I went back, the junior stylist was still having trouble and asked one of his master stylist to help out. I was really satisfied with the customer service that was provided; the master stylist took her time to ask all the right questions and give me exactly what I wanted. I appreciated the extra time and effort that went into making sure I left with what I wanted (being a Groupon customer) even though I didn't have a picture to show. The cut is now at least three months in, and it's till pretty much what I want - it's growing out exactly how I like it to be in the winter and I think I'll be back in the spring to cut it back again! PS: there's also complimentary sangria, which is always a plus :) Thanks Zazu! read more

I was in town for work and wanted a last minute blow out to last me the week. And you know, sometimes you just don't want to do your own hair and get the Royal treatment. I managed to get an appointment the day of with Zayna. Probably the best blow out experience I've ever had. First, Zayna was SO amazing. She was attentive and asked a lot of questions to ensure I got what I wanted out of the visit and that I was comfortable. She turned a simple blow out into a wonderful and memorable experience. I happened to have work head shots the following day and the blow out did in fact hold up for those, plus all week. I think it took about an hour or a little less. Salon was easy to find, really nice and clean inside. Front desk staff was also really friendly. Overall I loved my experience, so much that I had to write a review which I haven't done in years. Really wish they were in California because I'd go all the time. If you want a blow-out, definitely stop by. Loved Zayna but I'm confident anyone there would be just as great. read more

Lynnet is the best! Absolutely loved the way she cut my hair. I showed her a picture and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I've never had a hair stylist get it that close to what I really wanted. I can't wait to come back to her for more cuts, as well as blowouts & color in the future. Great salon service overall. Took good Covid precautions and felt very safe. Highly recommend! read more

I have struggled to find a salon since moving from the suburbs to the city. I've tried a variety of different salons but could never click with the stylist or get the hair cut or color that I was looking for. I searched on yelp and found ZaZu salon. Whether it's about the color or highlights or style she listens to what I am looking for and makes it happen. Wonderful salon. I've been here twice in the past week since moving to Chicago. They have a program that offers unlimited waxing and mini facials for $64 per month - they just ask that you tip on what the full amount would have been. I've never found anything like it but I'm hooked! The ambience is super cute. Upon entering they offer you your choice of wine, water, tea or coffee. I came on a Monday for waxing then booked for the following Saturday for a haircut with Carolyn. Carolyn spent time mapping out a plan of action for my hair over the next 6 months. I'm quite pleased with what we decided. I'm hoping that this particular location will start offering lash and nail services but for the services they are currently offering - definitely 5 stars!! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this salon. You are greeted immediately when you walk in by the welcoming ladies that work the front desk. Whenever I need a touch up on my color, I turn to no one else but Leah. She has been coloring my hair for nearly 7 years and she always does a fantastic job. She is quick and very thorough with the foils so you're not sitting in the chair for hours! Her technique is perfect and your hair will always be well blended and fresh! I came here my first time after getting my hair done literally the day before. It was a hot mess. Knowing I was hesitant to try not only a new place, pay even more money, but also to go through the process over again, was really nerve racking. Lynnet heard all of my concerns and agreed my hair shouldn't have been looking how it did! She spent her time with me. She was quick and efficient, even though it was a longer process. I fully trust her and her expertise, and am totally going to her again! Highly, highly recommended Lynnet. Thank you!!! Also the staff was so helpful and warm.
