I came by for a brow wax after reading the solid reviews. This benefit brow bar is inside the Benefit boutique in the State St Macys. It's located by the State and Washington intersection entrance. There were 4 associates when I went. There's the retail section that has most of the benefit products for sale. There are multiple stations that are open to the rest of the department store. Booking online was quick and seamless. They had same day appointments so I was easily able to drop in. They were fairly busy so I'd recommend an appointment but they do take walk ins. Humberto helped me and was super sweet and nice. He explained exactly what he was doing and had me go through the brow shape in the mirror for each side of my face. He worked quickly and touched up my wax with tweezers and I was in and out pretty shortly. Prices were transparently displayed and they take tip in cash or card. Would recommend for a quick brow place in the loop. They also do lamination, threading, and tinting here. read more

I've been a customer and client at this specific Benefit Brow Bar for over 10 years. I've been a loyal client for brow aestheticians here from Cherie, to Vanessa, to Mercedes, to Cathy, to DeAndre over the years, as well as meeting, on several occasions, the district manager at the time, Jae. From these past visits, I've never had a negative experience with them. Today, I came into Benefit on State Street and I receive a brow waxing service from Shavece. She was kind and had great conversation - and also did a great job on my brows. However, towards the end of my service, Shavece takes a purple paste and applies it (she took it past my eyes, and I could not see in the moment what was actually happening, as my eyes were opening and closing during the wax), but I could feel it being applied. She says "I'm just adding our special paste and it'll take all of the dirt and debris out of your pimple". OK.. I know that Benefit offers eye masks during their service, so maybe this is something that will enhance my service? I asked her to remove it, because I do not ask for it. Shavece wipes off the paste and begins to squeeze the pimple that is on my forehead. I ask "excuse me, what are you doing?" She says "sorry I just think this pimple is ready up come to a head... that doesn't hurt does it?" I respond "yes that hurts a lot, please stop". She continues and I say "please leave my pimple alone, this is not what I came in here for". She says "ok sorry". She then gives me a mirror to look at my brows, and I see that the pimple that's on my forehead is now bleeding, purple, more inflamed and irritated. I'm not someone who pops my pimples, and I for sure did not come into Benefit for my brow aestheticians to pop it during a service that was booked for an eyebrow wax - especially without my consent. I asked her for a tissue as the bump was bleeding pretty bad and I needed to stop the blood. She proceeds to check me out and asks "did you want to leave a tip?" A tip that I would give is not to touch parts on a customers face that is not given permission to do so. I did not come in for a pimple consultation. I did not come in for a pimple treatment. I did not come in to get "pimple paste". I called the brow bar directly and spoke with the manager, Mariaelena, and she basically upheld what the aesthetician did. She claimed that popping pimples and applying pimple paste was a part of the service. Never in my 15 years of coming to benefit have I ever had that done. I've had pimples on my forehead or on my face before, while being serviced at the many locations I've visited, and no aesthetician has ever done this. If you're touching someone's face, it should never be something that the aesthetician simply chooses to do - and if it's brought to the managers attention, there should be more sincerity and apology towards the customer. You don't just start extracting a customers pimple or something on their face without their consent as I could be allergic or have skin that is sensitive to certain products, which I do. That's not a part of the waiver that sign before initiating the service and I was extremely dissatisfied. I came in for a brow wax - and I'm not sure if she assumed that she was being helpful, but this experience has deterred me from returning to this Benefit location in the future. read more

As always, great brow wax! Randomly happened to be downtown on a Sunday (if you are a local, def would not recommend) and realized that I needed a brow clean up. Normally I go to the Brow Bar in Southport, but Macy's will do in a pinch. I realized quickly why I am not a fan of Macy's. I'm sure with the increase of online shopping, this location is struggling like any other retailer. Which is why they are running a bare minimum staff. There was one brow artist working when I arrived to the counter. Now, from an L.P. standpoint, this seems a little...um...risky? But I digress. She was professional, polite and accurate in the wax. Knowing I had to be in Chicago for a weekend, I made sure to book with her. She is amazing!!! She's fast yet thorough. She is genuine, sweet, and just has a really great energy and aura about her. You can see that she LOVES her career choice and it's refreshing to witness! Most importantly, she knows what she is doing. It has that boutique feel without being too stuffy. Plenty of open space to maintain distance for those COVID cautious. Second, MOE IS A DREAM. Do not go here unless you want to get burned as I did. First time in 30 years of lip waxing that I ever received burns from a wax. Serena did the wax and tried to say oh it's just a little red, let me put concealer on it which made it burn even more. AND they still charged me full price. I will post photos. I'm in Chicago for the first time ever for a work event, and I just so happen to be here on my birthday. As a busy mom of two, I was excited to spend the day alone pampering myself and checking out what Chicago has to offer. I realized that Benefit offers "Birthday Brows" which means you get a free brow arch on your birthday. I was excited, and I usually handle my brows myself, so to get them done is such a treat. Laura Cano took me when I arrived too early for my appointment, just so I wouldn't have to wait or come back later. She talked to me about my brow habits, mapped my brows, trimmed them and helped me get a wonderful shape! She was super gentle and the wax didn't hurt at all. Once we were done, she brushed through my brows, added a little concealer, and even applied the new Rollerball eyeliner for me to try. All in all, I have to say it was a great experience. Since I live in NY, I can't say I'll come back, but I definitely recommend Laura. *ring ring* "Hello?" "It's Jo. I need you to meet me in the bathroom in 3 minutes." "...Okay. ...Why?" "Because I just went to the Benefit Brow Bar and they made me look like a drag queen!" Yes, this is an actual phone conversation that just took place between my coworker and I. I wanted to try a new brow place. (STUPID JO.) I remembered hearing good things about the Benefit Brow Bar. I read all these great reviews on Elle... except when I called, I was told Elle no longer works there (and hasn't in a year, FYI). Shannon happened to answer the phone, and I had the Yelp page up and oddly enough it was on the ONE review about Shannon, and it was good. So I booked an appointment with her for today on my lunch break. What a mistake. When she introduced herself, I should have known. And I should have walked away. I'm all for makeup experimentation, but it was obvious that our makeup styles didn't match, if you know what I mean. I like to go for a light and natural, barely there look. She doesn't. But, to each their own. Things started off great. She explained Benefit's eyebrow philosophy, and I agreed with it. Okay, maybe this won't be so bad. I thought the wax was going well... even after she got wax in my hair and didn't get it out... and then we came to the end. My skin was red, so she said she was going to put concealer on it. Um, okay... I'm not too jazzed about you putting makeup on my skin that you just ripped wax off of, but whatever. Then she wanted to use brow corrector. Oh, why did I allow this? Then she whipped out more makeup. I let this go on for a couple minutes, when finally I was like, "okay, I'm sorry, but I really have to get back to work." And I did. This was taking WAY longer than I had anticipated. So she goes, okay. Turns around, grabs blush and literally throws it on my face like a 2 year old painting. Sigh. She hands me the mirror. I'm of course horrified (see also: drag queen), but have no time to deal with it, so I pay, leave, and am wiping off as much as I can on the walk back to my office. When I got back to my office, my coworker met me in the bathroom to help me... and pointed out that MY EYEBROWS AREN'T EVEN. Sure enough, my left eyebrow is perfectly arched, and my right eyebrow... isn't. TERRIBLE. I'm not naive enough to believe that they will be perfectly matched, but this is OBVIOUS. Terrible. Skip this place. RUN from this place. *EDIT* I feel it's important to note that just like another reviewer, the skin above my eyebrows broke out. That has NEVER happened to me before. Also, I have a mark just above my eyelid that resembles a burn mark. Or maybe a missing skin mark? Nice. read more

Did someone slip something in my Pepsi Max? Am I hallucinating? Are those......ARCHES??? I have always been so jealous of those lucky ladies whose eyebrows have a natural arch. Mine are stick straight and boring as hell. Considering that pretty much every brow waxer/threader I've ever been to has told me that there's nothing much that can be done to change the natural shape of my brows, I've learned to accept it. How on earth Elle managed to sculpt my brows into these beautiful, graceful, perfect little arches, I'll never know. And how in the HELL did she do it so quickly and painlessly? This is the first time ever that I didn't even wince. And she was so friendly and funny! I am tempted to think that she sold her soul to the devil in exchange for this extraordinary talent. I've been hooked on Benefit Bar from my first visit. I'm now on my third visit there with different stylists. I previously came here pre-wedding for a brow wax. They couldn't find my name on file probably because I moved and got married. I filled out a new card, so I could be remembered for my next visit. I also popped in today for a beauty visit pre-honeymoon. They handled the walk-in thing very well since I arrived during their busiest hours. Shannon took care of me and did an excellent job. Her brow work is on par with the Elle. As she tended to my bushy brows, she mentioned that she's a licensed esthetican and has been in the business for ten years. I had full confidence in her ability to clean my wayward brows. She's extremely gentle too, probably one of the most painless waxes I've ever had. I can't recommend her enough. She listened to my waxing desires and did them perfectly. I took full advantage of the makeup touch-up today which almost always results in damage to the pocketbook. Today was no exception. I fell in love with new products as a longtime Benefit makeup fan. These products are better than the originals I attempted years ago with some failure. I purchased Sugarbomb, their newest powder blush, a play on my favorite Dandelion. I also fell for plum Bad Gal mascara. Hello, plum mascara is perfect for my brown eyes. So excited by this revelation of a subtle mascara color other than my mainstay black. So, I've had yet another successful trip to Benefit Brow Bar. I love having a brow bar by work.
