I saw these reviews and my inner cynic said, "There are only a few reviews, they are all 5 star reviews, and they all spelled the esthetician's name correctly. You know that these were written by her friends and the service will be a terrible experience. You are too smart to fall for this." I'm so glad that I ignored that voice.
This was a terrific experience. I have nothing but great things to say about Xiya (whose name I only knew how to spell thanks to the other reviewers).
Background: I was overdue for a Brazilian wax. Since moving back to Chicago, I haven't found someone who I wanted to visit more than once. I booked an appointment with another person at a salon earlier this week, but she was fired the day before my appointment; I got very lucky! I checked lifebooker to find an appointment that I could fit in before I started travelling and luck brought me to Linxia Beauty Works.
The Appointment: I booked my appointment online for the next day and received a confirmation call within an hour of booking. Xiya asked if this was my first time and if I had any questions.
The space is in an office building and when getting off of the elevator, you are pretty sure that you are in the wrong place. Once you go into the work space, it is clean, quiet and so easy.
I was dreading this appointment because I was overdue. I went in knowing that this was going to hurt and it would take longer than usual. I was so wrong. I was in and out of the room (including dressing and undressing time) in 17 minutes. (I happened to notice the clock when I entered and exited.) I was in and out in record time, but I never felt rushed. This was probably the least painful overdue wax that I've experienced. She distracts you with conversation and coaches you through the worst parts. And did I mention that she did a perfect job. I don't think that she missed a single hair.
She mentioned that she had recently moved to this location, which explains why there were so few reviews.
Ignore your inner cynic. Go here. Below are just a few reasons why you should go:
* This place is SO close to my office. Odds are that it is close to your office, too. If it isn't close to your office, it is at least directly across from the Wabash entrances to Marshall Fields; so it's close to shopping.
* Xiya is sweet, professional, and FAST; I mean fast. I can schedule my follow-up appointments during lunch and still have time to eat lunch.
* This is the least painful waxing experience that I've had that was also a good wax. I've found that the less painful waxes don't always get every hair, but sometimes just break the hair. This waxing was ideal.
* Package pricing is insane. I haven't paid so little for a B-wax since NYC.
To sum up. You need to change estheticians unless you are already seeing Xiya. read more
