5/31 - Update: I appreciate the salon reaching out directly and issuing a full refund. They were closed today but still took the time to contact me and make things right. 5/30 - I initially had several positive experiences at this salon. I had been seeing the same tech for a few months, and my first few sets turned out beautifully with no issues. Unfortunately, after a previous appointment, I developed significant swelling, itching, and irritation in one eye within hours of leaving the salon. I contacted the salon and was told it could be an allergic reaction to the adhesive. The symptoms eventually resolved after a few days. Because the issue had cleared up, I decided to give lash extensions another try and returned three weeks later. Unfortunately, I experienced another reaction, and this one was much worse. The same eye became extremely swollen, painful, and irritated shortly after the appointment. I developed discharge and crusting around the extensions, and many of the extensions fell out almost immediately. I want to note that both reactions occurred very shortly after my appointments, before I had washed, wet, or otherwise handled the extensions. Since clients are instructed not to get their lashes wet for 24 hours after application, I do not believe this was related to aftercare or hygiene issues at home. What has been most upsetting is the damage to my natural lashes. As I write this review, I have virtually no natural eyelashes remaining on my right eye. Not only did I lose the extensions I paid for, but I also lost nearly all of my own lashes on that side and am now left looking noticeably uneven while I wait for them to grow back. I understand that allergic reactions can happen and may be outside of the salon's control. However, after spending $130 on my most recent fill appointment and ending up with a swollen eye, severe irritation, and almost no natural lashes remaining on my right eye, I felt it was important to share my experience. read more

I had an appointment on 7/28 for an eyebrow tint and lash lift. The ambience was lovely. This is not the first time I have had my eyebrows tinted, but it was my first time having my lashes lifted and having these services performed by Emerald Lashes. The lash lift was good. I have very curly lashes, which I have since learned can make it harder to get impactful results from lash lifts but the technician did a great job. The eyebrow tint was not as good. It lasted 2 days, even being careful not to get them wet the first 24 hours. It looked as if I had nothing done by day 3. From the reviews here, I have since learned that Emerald offers a 3-day grace period for any service you are not happy with. Unfortunately, I was traveling on what would have been day 3 so knowing this policy sooner would not have resolved the issue. One additional minor nit picky item. The eyebrow tint was performed in an upright chair. This was the first time I have had any eyebrow service in a chair that did not at least recline a bit, and it was mildly uncomfortable. The staff were very professional (well trained), but not particularly friendly if that makes sense. Overall, it was an okay experience and probably fine for most people. read more

Sorry in advance for the long story, but the main takeaway is Kristina is an absolute miracle worker!! I had never had my lashes lifted or tinted and unfortunately did not do my research well enough the first time. Before I came to Emerald, a tech at a different salon in West Loop completely fried my eyelashes...on just one eye. The first two pics show how bad it was. I looked ridiculous and even worse it was so uncomfortable having my lashes digging into my lid at all times. I contacted Emerald on Instagram the next day hoping they could help. When I met Kristina she was very empathetic to my situation and set realistic expectations...she'd do her best. I would've tried anything (besides going back to the original salon) at that point. The studio was nice with comfortable stations, a peaceful ambiance, and blankets just in case. While Kristina worked, I could feel how dried and stiff the lashes on my left side were compared to my right, so I had very little hope the problem was fixable. She explained she didn't want to do the tint at that time as it would further damage my lashes, which was 100% fine with me. I really appreciated that she went out of her way to explain every step to me. When she gave me the mirror at the end my eyes welled up with tears. I cannot thank Kristina enough for what she did and I will never trust anyone else! Once again, the first two pics are BEFORE from a different salon and the third and fourth are after Kristina worked her magic. I came to Emerald Lashes to get my brows waxed and tinted. My eyebrows were previously microbladed (about 5 years ago) but I haven't kept up with the maintenance since. The location is easy to find and the vibe inside is nice and relaxing. Krystyna was the one who did my brows and she was very professional. She explained that we couldn't change my brow shape as much as I might want due to the previous microblading but that she would wax and shape them to as best as she could. Well... she did a fantastic job! Even better than I could have expected! My previously rounded, thin brows look fuller and sharper (which is exactly what I wanted). She explained how I can maintain them and answered all the questions I had throughout the session. I did a lot of research before making an appointment for eyelash extensions at Emerald Lashes. Since other reviews mentioned Yuliia specifically, I chose to book with her. I wanted to get extensions for my wedding, but at the advice of others, I decided to try it out in advance. I went in about a month before my (destination) wedding. Yuliia recommended the Classic last for a first time customer and said we could add more on my second visit if I chose to return. Yuliia was such a perfectionist and I was so comfortable I fell asleep. After my first visit I fell in love with my lashes. I was very careful with them and followed all the rules for the first 48 hours and beyond. I really wanted to see how long they lasted, and I was not disappointed. On my return visit 3 weeks later, right before my wedding, Yuliia said I did a great job maintaining my lashes, so she cleaned them and added more to the lashes that had grown out or that I lost naturally. This appointment took a little longer then a normal fill because she added lashes, and just in general took her time making sure they were perfect for my wedding. Since I was leaving the country for my wedding I didn't have a choice but to get them filled a week in advance and she said they would fall, but I wasn't worried. And I didn't need to be! They lasted the week and beyond. I was really careful not to get them wet in the pool or anything before the wedding, but afterwards I had to let that go and have some fun. And even over a week after my wedding my lashes still look great. I've lost quite a few, but it was all worth it. I can't recommend Emerald Lashes and Yuliia enough! My friends all loved my lashes and have already asked for the salon's information, so I imagine they will be booking soon! I am SO glad I found Emerald lashes! I wanted to get my lashes done before going out of town because i didn't wanna spend much time doing my makeup and i'm awful at putting on strip lashes. i went to yuliia and she was SO sweet and did an amazing job! i got the hybrid set. i was so comfortable while i was getting them done i fell asleep lol. I ended up having kind of a crazy trip (long story) where the first day i was sweating in the sun at a music festival all day and the second day i cried for literally 12 hours and somehow through all that i didn't lose a single lash - they still looked perfect. i thought i was gonna get them as a one time thing but i've been getting them filled because it makes my life so much easier and i feel so good about myself even without makeup! i was scared to get lash extensions for a while because i didn't think they'd be worth it. a friend got them done at a different place and said most of them fell out after a few days. but you just have to make sure you go somewhere where the technicians know what they're doing, and the girls at emerald lashes definitely do! i read like every review of every lash place in chicago before choosing this one and i'm so glad i followed my gut feeling and ended up here. i know there's cheaper places (there's also way more expensive places that don't do as good of a job, at least based on reviews) but it's so worth it to go to emerald. if you're reading this, seriously just make an appointment. thank you so much for making me feel beautiful! read more

And really, who wants to mess around with waterproof mascara? I'm the kind of gal where mascara makes a 1000% difference in how I look (and feel). I have stubby, sparse, pale blonde lashes. So I made an appt with Yulia for 2D lashes and figured I'd give it a try. Worst case scenario, I could at least have ok lashes for the cruise. Well, they turned out beautiful and light and natural. I literally kept getting complimented on how beautiful my "natural" lashes were. Needless to say, I never corrected them. Natural (or, hey, I put on mascara today) was the look I was going for. And high winds (we had two hurricanes chasing us on the cruise), speed boat rides, hot tubs, snorkeling, swimming, etc. didn't budge these lashes. I looked pretty all week long! Great staying power. And now that I'm headed out for two week for work, I decided to keep these beautiful lashes and go back to Yulia for a fill. She is just fab. I literally fell asleep as she was putting my lashes on. She's thorough and nice and sweet. It's totally comfy and doesn't irritate my eyes. So yeah, I'm hooked. Guess I'm keeping these "natural" lashes. Shhh... Don't tell anyone they're not mine. I've been a loyal client of Evgenia for almost five years now and Emerald Lashes Studio since opening. Everything about this salon is great, whether it will be the staff who are always so professional, friendly to the cleanliness of the facility to the actual eyelash extensions. I can definitely say that the facility is always clean, and they take all precautions serious, especially now with COVID 19 safety regulations. I would disagree with previous reviews as I can assure that all the technicians are wearing mask properly, and I haven't seen anyone wearing their masks below the nose. It is incredibly difficult to find a lash technician that not only has an impeccable skill set, but also the capability to make you feel comfortable and at ease. I'm getting married in a few days and I wanted time before the wedding to ensure that I would be happy with the results, as well as determine how well the extensions held up. I am thrilled with Yuliia's service! I have seen her for 2-3 fill appointments since my initial placement. I went with the volume set and my lashes look fabulous! I found that if you follow her post-op instructions, the extensions stay pretty intact for up to 2 weeks. I feel glamorous even without any makeup. What i appreciate about the women of Emerald Lashes is they look out for their customers. They've brought in a stool for us short people to get up on the tables and leg rests to save your back! I'm not a lashes novice, but after a disastrous lash experience in early 2017 I decided to wait until my lashes grew back to try extensions again. I did a TON of research over the course of the year & thought I had found the perfect studio/lash artists with emerald lashes. I'm sorry to say the work performed & the overall experience was disappointing & I don't think I'll be back. In a nutshell - I was kept waiting past my appointment time, the girls up front were very cold & unwelcoming, the tech seemed a bit inexperienced, and ultimately she completely ignored what I wanted and went against my express wishes to not have any 4D or 5D clusters AND didn't apply lashes to each of my natural lashes. For the record, my lashes were not done by Evgenia who owns the business, they were done by a new girl, Natalia. I was given a discount since she's new, but it was still NOT WORTH THE PRICE. FULL REVIEW: 1. Booking: 3/5 At the time I booked my appointment, I was using their old website. To their credit, the new Vagaro (beauty booking engine) webpage is a huge improvement. It is WAY more helpful, and provides much better descriptions & detailed options to customize your look. At the time I booked my appointment Evgenia was on Maternity leave. So I booked with her trainee, Natalia, event though I hadn't seen many pics of her work. 2. Appointment: 2/5 I arrived early to my appointment, since most lash places have you fill some paperwork out as a new client. For the record, I was not given anything to sign. The lash room is inside of a nail salon. When I arrived the girls at the register told me I could sit & wait since my tech was still with another client. They didn't ask me how I was, or offer me water, they just totally ignored me and kept chatting. I ended up waiting 20 mins past the start of my appointment time before Natalia came out. When I went back to the room she asked me about what I wanted & I explained I like more volume than a 1:1 classic set gives you, but I still like length & drama. She said that the 4D & 5D clusters have the most drama & I explained that I did not want those because when they fall out your lashes look 'patchy' since their absence is more noticeable. I also don't like a heavy look (which the higher volumes give) as much as I like a long & fluttery look that isn't 'natural' but more like a volumizing mascara applied over naturally long lashes. She said she'd do the 2D (which is what I had booked). The application process itself wasn't too bad, fairly standard. She did one eye first, and then asked me to check it. I knew right away that it was way more natural of a look than I wanted, but I wasn't sure what to do or say! If I said no, would she have removed the lashes & started over? It was definitely not what I had asked for at all, but I was totally unsure of what to do in that moment. I just shrugged and said ok & she started on the second eye. She really rushed through the second eye, she spent half the amount of time on it than she did on the first one. I thought that was very suspicious but gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking she maybe made a ton of extra fans while working on the first eye, allowing her to get through the second one faster. While working on my second eye, she got a ton of glue in my eyeball. It felt like thick eyedrops were flooding my eye, only they were eyedrops of fire. It burned SO BAD. I'm accustomed to a small amount of burning when you open your eyes at the end of an appointment, but this was different & messed up my vision in that eye for the rest of the night. 3. The results: 2.5/5 The lashes were very light & fluffy, but not long like I had asked for. They were not longer than 2 coats of mascara would make them. They were so thin that my lashes looked LESS defined than my everyday makeup. The overall shape of the lashes was poor, uniform in length from the front, and looked like cheap drugstore falsies. Worse yet was the fact that she chose the wrong type of curls which made my eyes look droopy & my natural lashes very visibly poked out of the extensions at a weird angle. I've never had this happen before, or since. Yet the thing that upset me the MOST was the fact that she DID NOT APPLY EXTENSIONS TO EVERY LASH. I was right, she rushed through my second eye. Instead of applying extensions to every lash she CHEATED & applied 4D & 5D fans to make it look like she did them all. I noticed this as soon as I got home. Finally, the glue incident resulted in a bunch of my natural lashes getting glued together. This is how you lose your natural lashes because they get PULLED OUT from the root, instead of shedding when they are ready. Good techs CHECK their work to ensure this doesn't happen. It's painful & results in weeping from the base of the lashes that are getting yanked out. read more

Went in to have eyebrows laminated. Had a decent experience but the lamination did not last more than a day, both times. When I walked out I LOVED them but then truly a day later, nothing stayed. And when I went to brush them they were all uneven etc. Contacted the owner asking if I could come in for them to take a look and try again but she said the problem is my eyebrows being "too strong". She doesn't even know who I am and I know manyyyyy people who get their eyebrows laminated with much thicker eyebrows than me successfully. Was excited to go back here but thank you, NEXT! read more

I saw Evgenia for lashes Botox and tinting and i went in not quite knowing what to expect (it was hard for me to believe that they would last for weeks). It's been two weeks now and my lashes are still curly and they look great! I wanted to post an update. Today is April 23 and while my lashes look "normal" not very thick or very curly, they still are a bit curled up and look much much better when I put mascara on than they would if they were not treated. I've gone to the Chicago location for months now for my brows, and they have always been so understanding when i've been short on time or needed to reschedule. I booked for lashes a while back, and my tech had an emergency where she had to cancel last minute. Immediately the studio called me, apologized, and offered me a discount for when I reschedule.
