I'm going to go ahead and give this place a 5-star, even though I've only had one session so far. I've noticed the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE just 2 weeks after it! I had horrible facial hair growth due to PCOS and just after one session, the new growth I had that came in finer than before just started falling out all on its own. I haven't had any regrowth so far. It's made the biggest difference already. Also, my skin has never looked so great and felt so smooth. For years I've battled with excessive ingrown hairs and scarring under my neck. I noticed it right after college and it gradually got worse. My mom took me to numerous dermatologists who gave me cremes, pills, all promising to stop the hair and to take away the scarring. False. This review is long overdue. I started going to Lapiel in Aug of 2018 (3 months before my wedding). What was supposed to be just a simple "wedding skin prep" service turned into a every 6 weeks with their former Aesthetician, Olivia. I would do a mixture of their Glytone Chemical peels and Dermalinfusion treatments (Buy a 3 treatment package - it's worth it). I was there until about March 2020 and then we all know happened. I recently went back in August for a botox treatment and am so happy with the results. I could gush on and on about this place but you just have to see for yourself. As an African American with skin VI type, it is so difficult to find experienced aestheticians who treat darker skin tones. I found out about LaPiel through Yelp...as I was browsing online for Laser Centers in Chicago which treats black skin/dark complexions. I decided to contact La Piel after reading Alana M.'s Yelp review (below) which gave La Piel credibility in servicing a diverse clientele. Her review gave me the comfort that I needed in finding a place that has lasers that treat dark skin. I have nothing but great things to say about La Piel and Catalina. The staff is very courteous and friendly. Catalina is professional, personable, and thorough!! The center feels more like a apothecary boutique...very inviting, clean, relaxing, and comfortable. Besides weekend hours, the fact that La Piel opens until 8pm on weekdays is great for working professionals. As a dark skin woman (Skin Type VI), I am ecstatic about the results!!! I started with one area (March 2014) and have gradually had other areas treated because of the phenomenal results. I was skeptical and afraid of pursuing laser hair removal based on stories and pictures that I saw online of laser treatments gone wrong on black skin. I must say, I have had no issues at La Piel. No burns, no dark marks, no keloid scars. If anything, the laser treatments have helped to lighten the areas where I had hyperpigmentation due to plucking and shaving. This secondary benefit of the laser on dark skin is great in helping the skin achieve a more even skin tone in the affected area(s). LaPiel may not be the lowest cost laser center, but it's well worth it...especially if the "right" laser equipment is important based on your complexion. Unlike some of the laser center chains, you are not forced to pay for a package of 10 to 12 treatments upfront....which may be daunting and financially draining. At La Piel, you pay for a package of 3 treatments. From there, you and the technician can decide on whether you'll need more treatments based on your results. Individual results do vary because everyone different! I must say that I noticed a big difference after the 1st treatment and even more after the 3rd. I've found my skin Mecca. In the last 2 weeks, I've visited Lapiel twice in prep for my upcoming birthday weekend. My first treatment was a laser facial with Catalina. I struggled with bad acne in my teens and always wear makeup to cover my scars and discoloration. The laser was practically painless (in my opinion, I think it varies by person) and I was floored by the immediate results. My scars were visibly shrunk and smoother, my skin felt tighter and fresher than it has in years. I was expecting a week of downtime and redness and there was absolutely nothing, I carried on my day as if nothing happened. I returned today for a chemical peel, this time with Julie. I've been to LaPiel about 5 times so far and never had a bad experience there. Recently I've started going to Olivia for SilkPeel facials. They are kind of like microderm but better because they deposit serum into your pores, in my case this helps with how exceptionally dry my skin is, but it can also be adapted for other skin types. I own a beauty business (goldplaited, shameless plug) and we see a ton of brides. La Piel has become my go-to for brides to prep for their wedding day makeup, any issues with dryness, texture, blackheads, etc is vastly improved after a visit or 2 with these skin care goddesses. read more

Anyone I ever encountered at the front desk at Lapiel was extremely unpleasant. They were inflexible and entirely unreasonable. I had been going there for a couple of years, and one time I arrived 5 minutes late and was told that my appointment would be cancelled and "as a courtesy" the cancellation fee would be waved. Please...Another time, I called on my way in a terrible snowstorm and traffic, and said that I would be late, and was charged the $75 fee. I suffer from excessive hair all over my body and face due to a hormone imbalance. I have tried many laser treatments and electrolysis (too painful to handle). The laser treatments were working for me but I found myself laid off in and working freelance for a few years and could no longer afford it. Move forward to 2012 and I was set in a good job and getting sick of the constant shaving. I researched and found Lapiel. From the moment I met Catalina I knew I was in the right place. Her and her staff make you feel so comfortable and at ease. I started treatments on my face and neck in February 2012. It hurts and I would not do it without the numbing cream but Catalina is very sensitive to the pain. She lets you know how far along she is and checks in with you. After 1 very painful session (I was late and couldn't keep the numbing cream on very long) she called later in the week to check on me. Now over a year later I have reduced the time between treatments and some of the areas can be treated every other time while she focuses on the trouble spots more regularly. My face looks amazing. Only once i had a couple spots appear but they left right away and she called me to check in on it. It has never happened again. Last month I started on the lower legs and feet. Painful but in a completely different way than the face. When I first started the face, I had to buy a 3 pack of sessions but have been able to pay the rest 1 at a time. Now that I started the legs, I just started those at a session at a time. No need to buy another package of treatments for the new area. Which although I am committed to this for the long haul. Paying as I go is way easier on me. Every other laser hair removal place i have been too needed huge initial investments. So I was already in love with this place and then I was given a complimentary facial. Finally went to get it yesterday. Loved it! Darcy is awesome. She talked to me about my skin and its changing needs as I am getting older (40 this year!). My face felt amazing. I am going back for a Microdermabrasion and peel in 3 weeks. Not sure I can keep up paying for the hair removal and facials on a regular basis but I also know my skin needs it. I'm excited to write a review for LAPIEL and Catalina, I think it's great to leave a procedure such as laser hair removal to a professional and knowledgeable person like her. I've had 2 laser hair removal treatments already and I already pleased with my results. Catalina is nice gentle and attentive to her patients, during my consultation she listened to my concerns answered all my questions and took a history and did a test spot for free. The packages come in 3 at a time where you pay in 2 installments depending on the area you want treated. I didn't feel like I was being sold anything I didnt want here, or makin any huge committments. Also the receptionist Arianna was very nice, professional, and accomodating. The experience of the actual laser was not very painful but is irritating like getting a tattoo, you feel 10-15 secs of a warm snap like a rubber band slapping the skin but before you can say ouch the pain sensation is gone with the cooling tip but read my words of advice below. Word of advice: If you are allowed and not allegic take tylenol or ibuprofen at least 30mins-1hr before your appt. ibuprofen would be better to help with the slight swelling, ask for the numbing cream you will be charged a not so high fee for this service but trust me add it to your package you will have to arrive at your appt. 20mins earlier to apply it and let it sit to numb you a bit, after treatment try to stay out the sun and if you do go out wear sunscreen 45 spf and up always if you sweat reapply,. After treatment it wasnt any downtime the only thing was the treated area felt like very minor sunburn and thats only if you touched it otherwise I was able to go to class that night without any problems, and use a gentle cleanser no plucking or waxing the treated area if you need to ask any questions about my experience here or anything message me here. but trust this is the place to go for laser hair removal!!! read more

Very good experience. Catalina, the owner, is polite, friendly, professional, puts you at ease and explains your every question in detail. I always research services before trying them out, so before my first visit I emailed her several times with lots of questions. When I came, she remembered me and said "we had an email consult, that gives you $50 off"...they run this promotion at the time, I forgot about it, she didn't. I had a few Botox visits since then, the price is probably best in town - $13 per unit. Catalina starts with as little as needed, quotes you price beforehand. It works well and the procedure is painless. The salon started offering a laser facial treatment, to correct sun damage and hyper pigmentation. I asked about it and she said I didn't need it. When I pointed a tiny brown spot on my face, she said it's very light and laser might not work on it. This is another thing I love about the salon, she is completely honest and does not take advantage of overly enthusiastic clients. They also offer Juvederm fillers, which is not mentioned on the website! The treatment rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. I had been hesitant to do this as I am a HUGE baby when it comes to pain. But knowing how convenient it would be for my lifestyle, I visited Lapiel based on a recommendation from a friend (who is also a client there). The 30 min consultation was very helpful. There was no pressure. In fact, I walked out without booking an appt so I could think about it. When I did call, they had an appt the next day. Despite being terrified, I booked it. And I am soooooo glad I went in 1 1/2 hours before to get the numbing cream. I also took two Ibuprofen about 2 hours before. This allowed me to get there, relax (brought my Kindle) and just calm down. Once I was in the room, Catalina was great. She knew I was terrified and was very kind throughout. It goes so quickly. Between my pits and bits, I was in that room for about 12 minutes. I only felt a little sting near my bits, WAY down there. But it just feels like a rubber band snapping and then it goes away. She asked if I wanted some extra cream for that night for the pain but I said no. I had no pain. Got up and showered the next day, still no pain. Easy peasy. As the love-child of a yeti and an unidentified primate, I'm not lacking in the body hair department. After doing a good amount of research on laser hair removal facilities in the city, I ended up giving Lapiel a shot. And I couldn't be happier with my choice. Catalina is fantastic. She's very open and honest about the entire procedure, and I didn't feel like I was being oversold. In fact, I pay per treatment and get a sizable discount for treating multiple areas. She's also great during the treatments as a motivator. A "Just a few more!" or two goes a long way when getting your body zapped to hell. And yes, it hurts. The treatments work. I'm through six sessions, and I have considerably less hair than when I started. It'll take a few more, but I'm definitely seeing results after each one. Also, for the past few months, they've had a new laser machine that cuts the pain level considerably. It may not be an option for all skin types, and it only works on large, flat areas, but it works just as well as the other machine used during my first few treatments. Literally not a bad word to say about Lapiel. Razors have long been the bane of my existence, but no more thanks to Catalina. Less painful than waxing, less of a hassle than shaving, and more effective than both, laser hair removal rocks the house. Assuming I can continue to budget for this expenditure (eek!) I will continue to go. The office is incredibly clean and soothing, the staff are professional and informative, and lasering truly works. I understand what some reviewers say about having a difficult time scheduling, but if you do this upon leaving your appointment, there usually isn't an issue. I purposely waited until I almost completed my sessions, to write this review so I could tell you all what the results were. I did my upper lip, underarms, lower legs and bikiki - bought 6 sessions for each area. My last session is in one week (Apr 30) and I have not shaved since Jan 25! I will admit, I do have one or two strays, but they're so thin only I would notice ... and again, I still have one more session to go. Now, the actual procedure - if you've been doing research, you've probably read that it feels like a rubber-band snapping on your skin - which is a pretty accurate description. For most areas, you'll need to put numbing cream, which you can get from La Piel ... and trust me, you'll definitely want it. After the procedure, some areas (my bikini in particular) stung - like I was sunburned. My bikini area also scabbed a little, but I put Neosporin and it healed after about a week. The scabbing actually helped turn the skin lighter, so I was surprisingly ok with it. The staff and facility are great. Catalina is very professional and thorough - she definitely knows how to make an awkward situation comfortable. The treatment rooms are clean and comfortable. They actually just opened the back area for facial treatments (I just started a series of 3 photo-rejuvanation sessions). There's normally plenty of street parking, even on nights when there's a Cubs game. And lastly, the prices ... they are the BEST out there. You cannot go wrong with La Piel! read more

I couldn't be more happier with the results from my laser hair removal. I did upper lip and chin. I've had really bad scars from picking at my skin on my chin, so bad it was growing in thick thick hairs and my habit got worse.
