I had a great experience at Smuve Skincare today. You should know, that I'm one of those girls that gets (or tries to) a Brazilian wax once a month. But I'm also a poor girl so I buy up those half off deals all the time (from Groupon, Living Social & the million companies just like them that keep popping up). This week I bought a deal for a $25 dollar brazilian at Smuve. When I called to make an appt. the woman informed me that the deal had been run in error & I should call the company to get my money back. However, she offered to honor the same price (which was more than half off) even though it wasn't her error AND slipped me in for an appointment that day. The place is kind of weird because it's on the 17th floor of an office building but when you get inside it's very serene & welcoming. It's very clean (a necessity when you're laying on a table with your business all out) & whatever candles they're burning smell delicious. Who knew that getting a Brazilian didn't have to be a traumatic experience usually reserved for political prisoners? I had my first was here yesterday and it was amazing! Aleshia is the first person I've ever seen who made me feel relaxed. She was personable, warm and most importantly, extremely knowledgeable. She has done a fantastic job of research the best products and techniques. The office is lovely - the waiting room is very relaxing. I also appreciated that there was a TV in eye-line when you're on the table, something to take your mind off the goings-on down below. I'll be coming back here for all my waxes. Since moving out to Chicago from California, I've been searching for a good place to get waxed that uses quality products (Hard wax is available here!) and isn't too outrageously priced. I've tried Cleise, Kaya, and a couple other places that offer hardwax in the city and they are good no doubt, but they are quite pricey Then comes Smuve, which I tried out based on a livingsocial deal. Pros - she's fast and she's pro at this. Makes you feel comfortable (as much as possible since waxing is awkward to begin with). She gives good advice on skin care but doesn't try to push products. My first observation was that Alichia is aesthetician first, hair-ripper second. Seeing as I won't inflict pain on myself unless it's convenient, I began my search for a new waxer. I bought a living social for a Brazilian and was so scared to get one done. My deal was expiring so I thought I might as well use it! I went into Smuve and was greeted by Aleisha. She was so warm and friendly and made me feel really comfortable. When she started the Brazilian, she was so nice and was able to tell me everything she was doing step by step. I was very hesitant and she was very honest on the pain and what she would do if she was in my position. Not sure if I would go back only because I can't handle the pain. I bought a You Swoop for $60 worth of waxing. When I showed up I recognized the technician right away, and realized she was at another spa I went to. She is friendly and professional. Most of all - she prides herself in doing a good job. She took her time and made sure it was the best work she could do. I appreciated that, because as most of us deal finders know, we don't always get the best service. At this studio, I felt like I got the best and it was the end of the day. I left buying a product and plan on coming back soon. I only marked it down a star, because it was difficult making an appointment since it's all online and all the times I wanted were taken. What a good experience! I have used the same person for 6 years for waxing in LA until I moved to Chicago. I was used to making my appointments through text and getting special rates (even in Beverly Hills). I was really happy with Smuve. I was able to make my appointment over the internet which was extremely convenient. The place was clean and quiet. Aleshia was so nice.
