Can't believe I have not posted about my hair magician. I haven't lived in Chicago for over 7 yrs and I travel back to book to see Celinda. A friend recommended her 15 yrs ago when I lived in Chicago. I now live in Michigan but have lived in Los Angeles and obvi Chicago. She is the best hair dresser I have ever been to. Shes legit amazing. I few times that I have tried to go elsewhere to eliminate my trip to Chicago and end up coming back to celinda. I have referred very picky friends who now only trust Celinda. I've been seeing Marco for a few years and he is truly incredible. One thing that keeps me coming back to him is that he LISTENS! I say I want to cut off just the split ends, he doesn't go rogue and chop off half my hair. He's never one to shy from trying something new and making you look great doing it! I've tried a lot of styles with him over the years I'm a natural brunette and I got to live out my dreams of a blond bob for a summer and he helped me achieve that over just a couple appointments. Marco is the most unbelievably kind, funny, professional, all around perfect hair master! I was referred by a friend (or should I say, totally obsessed with her hair color and begged her to tell me who did her hair). I went in thinking I was ready to be blonder than I was, and the color he did was absolutely gorgeous, and after I spent a couple days doing my normal styling and washing, it just didn't feel like "me" (a full brunette) so Marco set me up with an appointment the next day to add toner and spent a full hour and a half kindly chatting while darkening my hair, and made it absolutely perfect. He wouldn't allow me to pay, but I could not be more in love with the shiny, glossy, sunkissed brunette color he created and have already booked my appointment to add gloss again with him in 5 weeks. I have lived in Chicago for 8 years and have never found someone so talented, not to mentioned someone so talented and efficient that I am sad to be ending our lovely conversation when he's done. He creates the most friendly atmosphere and I am so energized (huge Contrast from previous stylists where I felt exhausted after friendly but forced conversation) and happy at the end of the appointment. Marco is a lifesaver and a god to all things hair. A history of my hair: multiple rounds of highlighting, corrective ombre, regrowth, balayage more highlighting, toners, etc. In the past five years my hair has had multiple stylists try and work their magic - none of them have come close to the work Marco does. In our first session we took my hair from grown out highlights to as close as we could get to platinum blonde without destroying everything. I've always been a fan of the platinum route but knew it would take more than one round to achieve my desired result. . In our second session he blended out the color even more beautifully to a natural, platinum ivory color. I truly get nothing but compliments on my color, and I'm extremely confidant with how everything has turned out. Marco takes the time to really figure out what you want - he'll go get specific products you want to use (such as olaplex) and will go out and buy specific coloring products based on an individuals hair. Affordable is what makes this place what it is and what keeps a line of loyal customers coming back time after time..... This IS the best kept secret in the city. I have been a loyal devotee of Coralies since February of 2001 and continue to make my appointments like clockwork, every 6 weeks. I've also had Morgan cut, hi light and style my hair and have seen the great work that Justin, Marco and the others do on several of my friends that go here too...... Thank goodness for Ethan! Because my family is immunocompromised I have put off getting my hair cut for the last three years! It was driving me crazy. Once I felt comfortable enough to get a hair cut I headed back to Ethan because I knew he'd give me exactly the cut I wanted. He cut off a 14 inch pony tail and told me I could donate it to Locks of Love which is awesome and makes me feel good about being able to give back after dealing with all that hair for so long. My mom is a cancer patient so I'm very happy to help kids dealing with cancer. Ethan also cuts my grown son's hair. My son had been going to a place close to home during covid and ended up getting a cut that looked like a bowl had been put over his head! It was awful. He had a high stakes event coming up and needed to look professional and put together. I told him he had to go to Ethan! He did and of course got a great haircut and received many compliments. My son says he'll never go to anyone else. We can't recommend Ethan highly enough. Plus he's a really lovely person! Salon Rouge is small but chic and everyone is friendly and kind. I was completely turned off by the rude treatment that I received when I came here First of all, they constantly have a sign outside that says 'walk-ins welcome.' So I walked in the other day without an appointment, hoping to get a brow wax. There was no one at the front desk, and they guy that was blow drying a client didn't acknowledge me. I saw a stylist in the back, and she clearly saw me, but she did not come to the front to greet or help me Finally the guy turned off the blow dryer to ask what I wanted. He was super rude and acted annoyed that I was even there. After he told me that they didn't offer waxing services, he apologized to his client for having to take a two second break to actually ask what I needed. I was still standing right there, and was put off by the fact that he apologized for having to help me. I will absolutely not be back. I don't expect royal treatment anywhere. But acknowledging a potential customer seems to me to be basic customer service. read more

I stumbled upon Salon Rouge looking for a place to get my haircut in my neighborhood. I didn't have high expectations as I usually trek downtown and spend $100 on a cut. I was sold from the second I walked out. Morgan did a phenomenal job cutting my hair and it was only $45. A few weeks ago I walked by the salon and saw a sign for a Brazilian Blowout. The service claimed to straighten your hair for up to 12 weeks without stripping out the body like those thermal straightening treatments. I have curly hair so the thought of not having to straighten my hair every day was appealing. They are also running a special where you get the treatment plus the hair product recommended for $200 (that is roughly $130 off the normal price in Chicago). After some research I went in to meet Katy and get the treatment. It is AMAZING! My hair looks healthier and better than it has ever looked and I don't have to spend an hour doing it. I only wish I had learned about it sooner! I really cannot recommend the staff and services at Salon Rouge enough. read more

I tried to set up an appointment for a single color process last week and I received less than par customer service. I have had my hair done at Salon Rouge before and it has been great, however, I am displeased with what happened. I called on Monday to see when I could come in to get my hair colored, and the girl I spoke with said she would have to look at the schedule and call me back later that afternoon. I said fine, although why couldn't she look at the schedule while I was on the phone?? Anyways, I never received a call back. I decided to call the salon on Tuesday to once again try and schedule an appointment, and my call went to voicemail. An hour or so later, I called the salon again and unfortunately got the voicemail. After my third call went to voicemail, I decided to leave a message with my name, number, and the fact that I had not been contacted. How can this salon not have someone answer their phone for nearly 4 hours??? That's AWFUL business. Anyways, I never received a call back. I called Wednesday morning and what do you know, I got the voicemail. I did not leave a message this time. I was fed up with it. It has been a week since I spoke with the girl on the phone and I have yet to receive a phone call. Needless to say, I won't waste my breath or my time in the future trying to schedule an appointment at this salon. read more

Marco made me look like a million bucks! I just left Salon Rouge and was so pleased with my experience. I feel like Marco is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. He is amazing with color and is at a price point that is reasonable. Marco has helped me experiment with light and darker shades of beautiful, natural blondes. Ash, platinum, dark blonde, or strawberry... After four years, I have never left the salon regretting his color choices. The true test is in hearing the compliments I get from others. "Who cuts your hair? And that's your natural color, right?" (Thanks, Macro!) I also appreciate some damage control Marco did for me. I had received a keratin treatment at another salon, and I think the stylist set the temperature too high. My ends were damaged. Marco was able to reshape my hair with long layers. Later, he carefully gave me a keratin treatment and varied the heat settings as he went. The end result was perfect. My hair was defrizzed, but still contained a little volume and the natural waves. The other thing I like about Marco is the fact that he keeps up with new products and techniques in the hair industry. He always has quality, niche products to share and is up-to-date on new products. His reputation in the Chicago area seems to be growing. I know he was selected to do makeover TV shows and has received accolades from magazines like Cosmopolitan. Last but not least, I spend half the time cracking up when I visit him. He's good with people. I see him being more reserved with some customers. I think he can kind of read what people are in the mood for. In my case, I love the accent and the big personality and the time just flies when I come to get my hair done. I appreciate the entertainment. My only tip is to arrive a few minutes early because parking can be a challenge. North and Wells is busy, but you can usually find street parking within a block or two. Just know that there is a lot of foot, bike, and car traffic that might slow down your arrival. Worst case scenario you'll be a little early, but there is a Starbucks and a few nice shops nearby. read more

I can't say enough good things about Salon Rouge. My older sister went to Marco at Salon Rouge to get her hair cut, and when I moved to Chicago she told me it just wasn't an option to go anywhere else! I have been going to Marco for the past 2 years, and have converted about 7 friends to go there as well. Marco is VERY knowledgeable about hair products, styling, etc. and isn't afraid to tell you what he thinks would look best on you. However, he also listens to what you want and never tries to talk you into doing something you don't want to do. Each time I go, I am always shocked by how great my hair looks! He clearly explained the keratin process, which leaves my hair silky smooth, even in very humid weather, for four - six months. She super friendly, very down to earth and gives a great haircut. I can always get in within the week and I am in and out of there quickly. Every time. Always a bad experience. Not only does every stylist openly complain about how much they hate working at Salon Rouge, they also don't listen to what their clients want. I have had 4 different stylists- yes I am stupid. I just kept going because it was close to my house and work. I have never had as many dreadful (and expensive) experiences in a salon in my life. Justin is young and hip, fun, and does what I ask but most definitely interjects his own opinions. I literally lived down the street, so it was super convenient for me to just walk over for a cut. I haven't let anyone else cut my hair beside Marco! He always listens to what I want, and gives me the cut that I'm looking for.
