I would have loved to give 4 or 5 stars. However, employees and service used to be much, much better (at the old and new location). Let's break it in to what's good: their breads and pastries are amazing. Super good and tasty and it's not easy to find a good bakery. Their sandwiches are not the best. Their customer service even worse. The wait time - unacceptable. 20 minutes for a ham and cheese sandwich? I can understand short staffed, but there are so many of them in the back while one person prepares the food? And they are totally unapologetic about the wait time. Love the food, don't mind the prices if the service was at least good, but the service is inherently terrible as no one seems to give to corn kernels about the customers or streamlining the order process. First time here... Food is great, coffee is solid... however, the system needs a little review?? It's super obvious that priority is given to phone in orders; we waited in line for 25 minutes to have a coffee and two pastries... As we were checking out, our one savory item was actually taken out of our bag and we were told that they were very sorry but it was supposed to go to an online order... gal was very nice but it was pretty awkward... Never had that happen to me before! As an owner I would tell my employees that's when you give the customer a free cookie or some thing?... Just seems like the people standing in front of you could use a little love... All that time in line and no one ever said to the group of us indoors, "welcome, and will be with you in a moment..." Scratch Baking has been on my bucket list for quite sometime and has got raving reviews from my fellow Yelp community and friends alike. It was such a disappointment when everything ordered was underwhelming. For my drink I got an iced coffee and it was just so so. For food, I split a croque monsieur and a cinnamon roll with my wife. The croque monsieur had good flavor but since they just reheat it the cheese was a little congealed and part of the ham was over cooked and almost inedible. I had higher hopes for the cinnamon roll as it looked out of this world. Unfortunately it was just as bad. We cut into it and it was so dense it was hard to cut. It was definitely overcooked as the bottom was burnt and hard to cut and eat. What you want out of a cinnamon roll is for it to be light and fluffy but we got the opposite. The flavor was really good just lacked a consistency to make it a good roll. I really wanted to love scratch. It's a cool spot and everyone on the staff was super friendly and speedy so it pains me to give this review. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? This is an unpopular opinion. But maybe because we've been spoiled with big city quality and service. There's SO much this town bakery can do better. Starting with customer service. You walk in on any day and becuase there's no competition in town. You wait on average 10 minutes for anyone to acknowlege you waiting. Then you wait another 10 mins and realize what you got was oversweetened coffee (even though you asked for just one sugar) and meh bakery (5 lbs of butter on any dessert is bound to be tasty). On a busy day, you are waiting in line for at least 45 mins. Is it worth it? Absolutely not. Somoene can at least learn basic manners and acknowledge you??? The manager/owner will tell you they are simply very busy - which is obvious they are. Everyone is working diligently. But perhaps maybe hire someone who can work both customer service AND help with packing orders? If you want quality baked goods and quality bakery, the nearest is New Haven - G Bakery or Atticus. One could only dream of them opening in Milford where there's obviously a need. read more

This is the best bakery I have ever been. The food is so good and the best thing they have is their cinnamon bun. They have one of if not the best cinnamon buns I have ever had. It is supper big and has a lot of frosting. They are always fresh, but if you want to try one for yourself, you're going to have to go before 12 since they sell out early. It is right in the center of downtown Milford and a perfect spot to come for breakfast and a coffee. The service is also great and they always are pleasant towards you. It's a great place to go and would highly recommend you try it out for yourself. read more

I am sorry but this is the most overrated place in Milford. Every time I come the cashier and people at the front are extremely rude. I came in at 10:40am and they said it was too early for lunch by 15 minutes, but yet they had barely any breakfast food available because they were out of a lot. They denied making a bacon egg cheese sandwich because they ran out - which is admitting that they make these in bulk in the morning so they are not fresh made on the spot. How hard is it to make a breakfast sandwich during breakfast? I ordered a blueberry muffin and it was hard, like rock solid and bland. I wanted to spend more money but there was barely any food. I've tried this place 4 times, never again always disappointed. This place went down hill once they moved and expanded the operation. Note for the owner - hire happier employees with people skills. Both the Chipotle Club sandwich and the Thai salad were great and big portions to boot. I have been driving by this place since it opened and always wanted to try it as sometimes there is a line outside. I went on Sunday and I have to say I was severely let down. The breakfast sandwiches are premade and "warmed up". When I took a bite out of it and the middle, it was really cold (yes I asked for it to be heated when asked hot or cold). You can see the tray of premade sandwiches in the back that are sitting out for who knows how long. The roll that it was on was very thick and dry. The bacon was undercooked, the cheese was not melted and the egg was dry. You cannot mix or match or get them ordered the way you want. The service was ok I guess, not much of an interaction other than my order and payment. There is no ambiance as you cannot eat inside there are no tables. Plus the sandwiches seem really overpriced $14 for 2 BEC. I will not be coming back here again and I don't know what the hype is about. read more

Scratch bakery is the best bakery in New England. Their coffee is absolutely delicious, especially their caramel iced coffee, which is drizzled abundantly in caramel sauce. Their bacon egg and cheese sandwich is quite possibly the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The fresh and crispy bread compliments the sweet cheese flavor perfectly. Their pastries are similarly impressive. The Monkey Bread is incredible: a fluffy cinnamon bun doused in frosting. The chocolate croissants are fluffy, flakey, and perfect for chocolate lovers, as it contains 3 strips of chocolate in the croissant. The scones are a perfect combination of crumbly and moist. The service is quick and all the workers are incredibly kind and friendly. I've been going to Scratch for about 8 years now and have never been even slightly disappointed by their products. However, my one complaint is that the pastries often run out throughout the day, so you have to get their fairly early to experience their deliciousness. I got the breakfast pizza - with the vegan soy sausage and spinach topping. They heat it up for you if you want, brought to my table. Had a quiche style crust, with egg and crumble topping and cheese. We also got the bread pudding with raisin muffin, super sweet and tasty. Stopped in while having to do other business in Milford. The place is well setup for ordering and pickup. You cannot eat inside as if 3/9/21. The staff were very nice and professional. Many of the baked product were displayed behind glass and it all looked great. The smell is wonderful if you like baked goods, and who doesn't. I ordered one of the cold sandwiches- turkey and Brie. I was in the area and had this place bookmarked. So many choices; dessert, sandwiches, breakfast, lunch, coffee...uggh I couldn't choose. I went with a sausage egg and cheese and a small coffee. It was delicious...the cheese they use is so good. The sausage was a thick meatball shape, way smaller than the circumference of the bread. Basically you don't get to the sausage until the 3rd or 4th bite. However, it was so good. My only issue was that the sausage was cold in the middle. Since it was so thick the heat didnt penetrate the sausage while being heated up. Luckily it was so tasty I was able to bypass that. I want to try their quiche. read more
