Hmm ordered with their online ordering system a salad and two grilled cheeses and an iced coffee. I really enjoy scratches coffee, can't go wrong! I'd suggest ordering the grilled cheeses when you arrive at the shop because I feel like they need to be eaten ASAP and mine were a little cool with solidified cheese. I put it in my toaster when I got home and it was good. I was a little disappointed in my salad, it was their house salad that comes with a bunch of yummy fresh toppings, like candied nuts and avocado. My issue was with the dressing which was as thick as a raspberry jam and with the croutons, they really were inedible. Zero crunch, hard and chewy. I wish someone in the shop had tried them because I can't believe they were in my salad.. soooo bad! If they'd tried them I'm sure they would have been trashed. This place is awesome! The food definitely tastes like it's made from scratch! I was so hungry and ate this delicious food so fast that I forgot to take pics. Luckily I got a pic of the apple cider muffin which is below. I got the Reuben which was one of the best I've ever had. It was nice and hot. And the manchego cheese in it is interesting. Honestly I never heard of that cheese. It kinda reminds me of goat cheese. Whatever it is makes his sandwich into the ultimate comfort food for sure. Also the cookie that came with it was not skimpy. I am a healthy eater, try to keep away from sweet things, but Scratch Bakery is probably the only place that can make me cheat on my diet. Absolutely everything they make, fresh in their store by the way, is delicious, and I can't help but walk over to their little downtown location and pick up a muffin, or pastry, or loaf of bread. And of course while I am there I always get my dogs a few of their biscuits. You have to try Scratch Bakery if you are anywhere near the green in Milford. And if you're not, come anyway. the baked goods are not impressive, the staff and how the establishment is even less impressive. they can't manage online orders and in person customers appropriately. the employees AND OWNER are rude. I tried to order baked goods they had on display and they said they were already sold...online...I asked for another item, same thing. I tried a third time SAME DEAL, all sold to online orders. WHY ARE THEY IN THE DISPLAY?? I finally say I'll just take coffee because clearly this place does not service actual people in front of them and they tell me it will be 15 minutes...you guessed it because of online orders. if this is how you want to run your business then close the door and just do online. the owner then came out 15 min later to give me my coffee and basically tried and shame me for being frustrated (mind you I had my infant with me at the time). I can't imagine running a business so incredibly poorly and then also being rude to the customer. never will step foot in this establishment again. the bakery isn't even that good, it's not a loss. Edit to add: All the other negative reviews on yelp echo similar sentiments of long waits and rude staff. Their response below says enough about their attitude. None of the other negative posts have such hateful belittling as the manager response. Guess I struck a nerve with my unfiltered truth on what was MY experience. Perhaps it was a bad day but it was too terrible to not acknowledge and the lack of apology just left me in awe. Why am I being shamed for my experience? this response to the negative review with again an employee belittling me because of a "minor inconvenience" aka not being able to physically order food that is displayed further shows you how poorly run their business practice is. I would call this more than a minor inconvenience as it is quite literally the only reason why someone is at the establishment, TO ORDER. If you cannot do this it is not minor. Apparently one is not allowed to have an abbreviated name or a negative experience without them again bashing someone. In terms of CT bakeries this place is pretty hard to beat. Everything here is exceptional, from the pillowy breads and buttery croissants to the decadent creme brulee, puddings, muffins, and scones. I am personally a huge fan of the oatmeal scone with maple glaze, but I also adore the corn muffins, chocolate pudding, vegan bars, and the craaaazy popular monkey bread. Also make sure to try the bread pudding muffins, they are browned and crispy on the outside and soft and custardy on the inside. An amazing treat. The cookies and cupcakes also have a cult following here. The cupcakes are, in my opinion, the better of the two. Lesli, the owner, and all the staff here are absurdly nice. If you ask anyone in Milford where's the best baked goods in town, Scratch Baking inevitably is top of their list and rightly so. Scratch very well my be my favorite food purveyor in Milford. They NEVER disappoint. Everything they bake and make is house made. Their egg sandwich is one of the standouts. From choice of house baked roll to the super melty cheese and perfectly cooked egg. It's different. A couple cuts above and worth the price. Other standouts- the cheddar chive biscuits and the cinnamon scone. I'm all about the crunches edges on the cinnamon scone. The cheddar scone is even better sliced in half, toasted and buttered. Trust me. Have patience and wait till you get home and toast it. I know its hard to resist but worth the wait. Scratch makes lovely breads too and superb small desserts. I literally want to buy everything when we walk in and see the glass cases. I have yet to order lunches from the chalk board menu because I never get past ordering my tried and true breakfast favorites. Given how good everything we have ordered is to date, I've no doubt their sandwiches and salads are also on par. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. So came here one bright Sunday morning with LRoth to satisfy her brunch craving. We got there at the perfect time because moments after, it was bumping. Line started to form. We decided to try the breakfast pizza, the frittata, and an everything bagel with cream cheese. I loved the breakfast pizza. The potato on it was so soft and really gave the pizza some filling. I honestly wanted to give scratch a 4 star review, but lately their sandwiches have been sub par. Their prices have gotten a bit much for what they're offering as well. I don't normally squawk about prices, but $10 for a sandwich with a few pieces of deli turkey and 2 mega thick slices of unmelted cheese is hardly the base for a Ruben. Perhaps the person making it didn't know the right bread to use or they've downsized their bread, but a sandwich should be filling. That wasn't. A Ruben should be melted through out and hot. So where do I begin? While I don't live in the area I find myself longing for Scratch goodies on a daily basis. I have a friend that travels with Scratch pastries and breads in tow when we see each other. It's always a fun surprise to see what goodies have been cooking that week. I only wish there were Scratch Baking in Chicago. I'd be there. Daily! I've been lucky enough to try a variety of their delicious brownies (the salted caramel is a fav) and the triple chocolate brownie ... my oh my! The chocolate croissant melted me to my knees, the galette was incredible and full of flavorful sass. And the breakfast pizza!!! Ahhh the pizza! I just had a roasted tomato and pepper version this past weekend which was delectable. I finally was able to break into the loaf of the week --- a pecan and cranberry rye I believe. I've been eating it with some strong cheeses and fig spread and find it the perfect treat. The eggplant pizza was tasty, but it was too salty for me after a couple bites. The crust is a little more burned than I like too. Either way, it is different and something I recommend trying. Excellent product but NEVER enough inventory. A baked good that is worth waiting for but too often, especially on the weekends, the line is a minimum 20-30 minute wait. To make matters worse, once you order, you will have to wait another 10-15 minutes. My orders aren't complicated or large either. Often, on a weekend morning, I am ordering a single egg sandwich, which is already made and waiting to be heated, yet I have waited in total 30-45 minutes. Inventory has been an issue for as long as I can remember, even prior to the bakery moving from the previous location which was over five years ago. I can understand them running out of inventory but I don't understand why they haven't improved processes. There are many bakeries and restaurants that do an incredible business that are able to manage both communication and long lines much better. If you don't mind a potentially long wait and are flexible about what you want, then go for it because the product is outstanding!
