Absolutely everything they make, fresh in their store by the way, is delicious, and I can't help but walk over to their little downtown location and pick up a muffin, or pastry, or loaf of bread. And of course while I am there I always get my dogs a few of their biscuits. You have to try Scratch Bakery if you are anywhere near the green in Milford. And if you're not, come anyway. If you ask anyone in Milford where's the best baked goods in town, Scratch Baking inevitably is top of their list and rightly so. Scratch very well my be my favorite food purveyor in Milford. They NEVER disappoint. Everything they bake and make is house made. Their egg sandwich is one of the standouts. From choice of house baked roll to the super melty cheese and perfectly cooked egg. It's different. A couple cuts above and worth the price. Other standouts- the cheddar chive biscuits and the cinnamon scone. I'm all about the crunches edges on the cinnamon scone. The cheddar scone is even better sliced in half, toasted and buttered. Trust me. Have patience and wait till you get home and toast it. I know its hard to resist but worth the wait. Scratch makes lovely breads too and superb small desserts. I literally want to buy everything when we walk in and see the glass cases. I have yet to order lunches from the chalk board menu because I never get past ordering my tried and true breakfast favorites. Given how good everything we have ordered is to date, I've no doubt their sandwiches and salads are also on par. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. Their cubbies for holding orders called in is clever and helps keep Scratch Baking serving customers efficiently by keeping the numbers of people in the store lower. So came here one bright Sunday morning with LRoth to satisfy her brunch craving. We got there at the perfect time because moments after, it was bumping. Line started to form. We decided to try the breakfast pizza, the frittata, and an everything bagel with cream cheese. I loved the breakfast pizza. The potato on it was so soft and really gave the pizza some filling. The frittata had a great crisp to the crust but also crumbly in nature. The egg was so tender on it. I do wish it had a little more flavor to it. Good bagel. Great chew. I honestly wanted to give scratch a 4 star review, but lately their sandwiches have been sub par. Their prices have gotten a bit much for what they're offering as well. I don't normally squawk about prices, but $10 for a sandwich with a few pieces of deli turkey and 2 mega thick slices of unmelted cheese is hardly the base for a Ruben. Perhaps the person making it didn't know the right bread to use or they've downsized their bread, but a sandwich should be filling. That wasn't. A Ruben should be melted through out and hot. Excellent product but NEVER enough inventory. A baked good that is worth waiting for but too often, especially on the weekends, the line is a minimum 20-30 minute wait. To make matters worse, once you order, you will have to wait another 10-15 minutes. My orders aren't complicated or large either. Often, on a weekend morning, I am ordering a single egg sandwich, which is already made and waiting to be heated, yet I have waited in total 30-45 minutes. Inventory has been an issue for as long as I can remember, even prior to the bakery moving from the previous location which was over five years ago. I can understand them running out of inventory but I don't understand why they haven't improved processes. There are many bakeries and restaurants that do an incredible business that are able to manage both communication and long lines much better. If you don't mind a potentially long wait and are flexible about what you want, then go for it because the product is outstanding! In terms of CT bakeries this place is pretty hard to beat. Everything here is exceptional, from the pillowy breads and buttery croissants to the decadent creme brulee, puddings, muffins, and scones. I am personally a huge fan of the oatmeal scone with maple glaze, but I also adore the corn muffins, chocolate pudding, vegan bars, and the craaaazy popular monkey bread. Also make sure to try the bread pudding muffins, they are browned and crispy on the outside and soft and custardy on the inside. An amazing treat. The cookies and cupcakes also have a cult following here. The cupcakes are, in my opinion, the better of the two. Lesli, the owner, and all the staff here are absurdly nice. However, this time we were told a sandwich would take 20 minutes because they had a number of on-line orders.
