The food is great, but only if you're able to get some. I patiently waited in line for nearly 40 minutes to only be told that the food displayed behind the glass, seemingly available for purchase, had been reserved for online orders. I was starving and so disappointed! I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and went back last week and waited in another 30 minute line and once I got to the front it was very disorganized. Some staff seemed unsure of what to do and asked me what I I would like to order twice. I'm frustrated by the service and will keep my visits here fewer and further between. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. My daughter brought an apple crumb pie from SB to our Thanksgiving celebration this year. I'm generally not much of a fan of purchased pies, but good God! This pie was FANTASTIC! I mean absolutely delicious. Crust, topping, apples...all perfection! No way would I go to the trouble of making a homemade pie when this level of deliciousness is nearby and easily purchased. Awesome! read more

Do not believe the naysayers: Debbie Downers will be unhappy wherever they go, Scratch Baking is excellent. The quality of the items makes the trip worth it. They have a nice variety of breads, baked good, pastry and dessert items. We got my sons christening cake from here and almost two years later people still tell me how much they enjoyed it. The muffins are particularly good: more options than simple blueberry or banana. The cookies are delicious and the raspberry bars are to die for. I went back using the curbside pick-up option, which was very easy. The Nutella brownies advertised are what drew me in and although very good (too rich to eat in one sitting, but so good to break up). The zucchini mixed berry muffin was by far my favorite. I will definitely be back to try the other zucchini muffin options. I didn't care for the banana muffin with blueberries too plain for a banana based muffin and a little dry on the bottom portion. And I really did not care for the chocolate chip bread pudding, since they do it in muffin form it's extremely dry. read more

Yuck! I drive an hour each way to pick up a bouche de noel and it was literally a huge log of frosting and a tiny thin layer of cake. They should call it frosting log. Scratch is certainly unique and the food and coffees they serve are well thought out and delicious. Having worked in the business scratch has a difficult time during the rush. They're onsite POS systems are extremely slow and it appears they value the online order more than the waiting costumer. They really should separate the two operations. I've witnessed servers put together 3 online orders before taking care of an in person customer. Separating pos from online retail would make for a smoother operation and you'd lose less customers who cannot wait in line. read more

Stopped on our way to Costco to take home a few treats to try. Ended up with a sinfully delicious mocha chip cookie, the most generous cinnamon hazelnut babka and a huge apple crumb muffin that was filled with thin tender slices of apple. Will be back for sure but will definitely need to leave more time for the difficult selection process and make room in the freezer to stash a babka and some muffins. I found this delightful little spot during a recent visit to Milford, CT. The display cases offer views of tantalizing goodies, and I admit I bought rather more than was needed to go with my espresso, on the theory that I had a long drive ahead of me. Everything was absolutely delicious. I bought a pain au chocolate (chocolate croissant), a blueberry muffin, a cheesy bacon mini quiche, an individual-size creme caramel, and a vegan granola bar for my daughter. For breakfast, I had the yogurt with delicious homemade granola. If I lived closer than 4 hours away, this would be my go-to bakery for amazing French pastries. If however you appreciate a bakery that makes everything fresh with high quality flowers and sugars and eggs, then you are home. Holy cow this place is awesome. Been wanting to try for a long time and finally got there. Scones are the best I've ever had and they are as big as your head! Easily can split between two people. Pecan bars are like pecan pie on steroids. They have this crust that is out of this world. Also tried a mini Boston cream cake that was also delicious but could have used a little more cream. My favorite bakery/breakfast spot. They have made me love bread. Breakfast pizza is still my favorite but there are so many options. Sweets are dangerously good. Especially the almond croissant (tip: call in or reserve one before Saturday as they are limited). Anything with cream cheese frosting is delicious but my favorite is the ginger sandwich cookies. I can go on but you should just try it. The workers are also nice and lines always move pretty quick. Not many places know how to make a decent croissant, This place nails it. It's probably the closest thing you can get to a real one without flying to France. Came here really early in the AM and bought more than I expected to - cinnamon smear scone (YES), tom / mozz / pesto quiche (YES, bring napkins), chocolate chip muffin, and a bread pudding muffin (OMG YES). I tried this place twice and I'm not sure if I'll go back. I had the Chipotle Chicken Panini which tasted great but was $13.99. $13.99 for a SANDWICH??? The second time I went in I ordered an iced coffee which took 15 + mins and they weren't even busy. I'm so happy to see a thriving bakery back on the Milford Green. We grew up with Wolfe's, which has been closed for a long time. Scratch combines old-fashioned quality (classic muffins, breads, cookies) with a new twist (cappuccino, whole wheat items) and it works really well. I dropped in on Christmas Eve morning and the place was buzzing with people picking up holiday orders. Buche de Noel looked especially good! Just for our day off today, I got an assortment of breakfast treats: cheese/egg biscuit; whole wheat English muffins; mini monkey bread; gingerbread cupcake. Everything was delicious. Biscuit warmed up at 350 for 10 minutes was perfect (they offered to warm it at the shop but we didn't need it right away). I also got a cappuccino to go, well brewed and a nice froth. Service wise, they gave me their full attention even though many people were coming in to pick up (which was being handled efficiently). They know how to treat new customers as well as their regulars. It's hard to find that at many businesses, and when a small, independent business masters the customer service as well as the quality of the products--we have a winner! read more

The scones are massive but delicious. they have a couple of indoor tables for seating and when the weather is nice some tables outside too. the lines could get long in the morning times though so just be prepared. read more

I am fascinated by this bakery. They have a unique approach to their product and for the most part I like it. What I like most is that they are consistent in their approach and execution. Best scones around. Some true surprises. This is not your typical sugar heavy bakery. This is an adult bakery with subtle flavor profiles and a sophisticated earthy touch.
