I stumbled on this little bakery when running errands and so glad I stopped in. Super welcoming and friendly, polite service. Fresh breads, rolls, pastries, danish, cookies and cakes all beautifully displayed. While I enjoyed all of the items I purchased (yummy fudgy iced brownies, Linzer tarts, and pumpernickel bread) the hard rolls were absolutely fantastic! Fantastic! While this place is not on the route of my normal travels, I will be making my way here again soon for more of those hard rolls and will definitely try some more bakery items. read more

I walked in for a birthday cake. They had a few in the refrigerated case to choose from. I selected a white cake with strawberry filling and whipped cream frosting. I must say I was very impressed by not only the presentation of the cake that I purchased but the way in which I was handled as a customer. I must say I was very impressed. I mean I was very indecisive when I ordered my cake and the person who took my order was very patient and pleasant and I mean I changed what I wanted the cake to say like 5 times. She didn't care she just waited patiently and I even hung up and called her back and she was still patient. Fast forward to the day of I ended up adding stuff smh lol. Normally I get my cakes from Julia's for all my baking needs but with them closing that leaves me to find a forever bakery for me and my bakery and I think I have found it! #1, ignore any naysayer reviews. Where else can one find honest to goodness homemade baked goods. For that fact alone, they get 5 stars. #2, amidst this world of chaos and fake contrived news and events, places to get down home authenticity are few and far between and have need to be applauded. #3, where else can a food snob such as myself start gnawing on a cream filled danish pie right then and there. The checkout girl, who had to find me a knife, loved me for doing so and my mom offered a slice to the old lady with a walker who was beyond delighted. We walked out with said cream decadence, a loaf of banana bread and a poppyseed roll. I wanted to buy more but Mom vetoed as she knows I'd take a bite and leave the rest with her. All items were excellent and I can't urge enough to please support your local bakeries. Please. The place was packed late Saturday afternoon with other customers picking up custom orders. We live in Milford and for years suffered dry cake and flavorless cookies at the overpriced Julia's Bakery in Orange until my sister recommended Icing On The Cake near her home. First, let me say the bakery is small, tucked into the corner of a small group of stores but this place is BIG on customer service and taste! We ordered a chocolate mousse birthday cake for my husband. Our family doesn't like cake, but they RAVED over this one! The cake and mousse were light and fluffy, not at all heavy and best of all it wasn't a sugar bomb... you actually taste the chocolate! That's a sign of an experienced baker using top shelf ingredients. We also ordered the following: CANNOLI. It was amazing! The shell was light & crispy and the filling tasted dreamy. It wasn't a sugar bomb, this cannoli left you desperate for more! ZEPPOLI. Three different fillings... chocolate, custard and a special cannoli filling zeppoli... all absolutely to-die-for! HONEY BUN. MONKEY BREAD. Both were the best we had ever tried. There was just one woman behind the counter and between the phone and us customers she was very busy, but when it was my turn she took the time to answer all my questions (this was my first visit), told me what all the fillings were in the cakes and helped me choose and even asked my name. Very friendly and engaging... I love that! The bakery was spotlessly clean! Yes, the floors and some fixtures were a little old, but I learned from another customer that between this baker and his father, they have been in business for about 92 years. So what if he's not into decorating the bakery with fancy new trim! It's obvious this baker puts his heart and soul into his FOOD, which is the only thing that matters. I could not believe the selection! I was so happy NOT to be in a "trendy bakery" filled with fondant and cupcakes! This bakery had pies, cakes, filled breads, pastries, donuts, baklava and other "dessert bars", cookies and... oh the list was endless. It's a parade of handmade LOVE all yours for the asking! The prices are great too! I was happily surprised to have bought all this for $35. Birthday cake 3 Zeppolis Honey Bun Cannoli Monkey Bread Every bite was scrumptious and we will definitely be back! The bakery may have some other nice items, the miniature cherry pies are great for parties, but I spent big money to have two custom cakes made, and paid extra to have buttercream frosting. When everyone at my party complained about the taste, I had to call "Icing" to let them know how disappointed I was that I got such bad reviews. I feel that Icing needs to go back to basics with its customer service. I've found them to be rude, impatient, and irritable of late. We have had two cakes custom made by this bakery. They have a lovely staff and excellent turn around time. They are able to accommodate any order (ours were pretty simple- but they do have some photos and real cakes on display that are pretty impressive). The yellow cake is delicious and moist. We had a chocolate cake with no plate icing made for my husbands retirement, and I felt as though the cake could have been a bit richer and thicker. The chocolate was sweet and sugary, and the cake was very spongy and light. I like a little weight in my chocolate cake! Next time we order a chocolate cake I will mention this to them, perhaps they will be able to make a better cake for us. We will continue using this bakery for our confectionary needs. Great cake and customer service: Needed a GOOD bakery for my twins' first birthday party. I love to bake but wasn't able to take on the challenge this time so I did some research and found Icing on the Cake. I wanted an 'old school' place that worked mostly with buttercream, not fondant. I ordered the large sheet cake number one cutout to feed 60-70. Vanilla cake with lemon filling and buttercream frosting. I should back up and explain that before placing my order I called ahead explaining what I was looking for. They immediately offered to have the baker make some samples for me. All they needed was a day or two notice. I tried a few varieties and they were all honestly good. Fresh, moist cake with a tender crumb; good selection of filings to compliment any cake; and delicious buttercream that decorated well and didn't taste too sweet. The day of the party the cake was delivered to my house and setup on the dessert table. The cake looked exactly as I had hoped and tasted delicious. We barely had any leftovers but what we did was frozen. I've hoarded the slices for myself because it was that good. This from someone who has baked and eaten a lot of cake in her life. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for a cake for any occasion. Their staff is extremely friendly and patient. And their pricing is very reasonable which speaks to the fact that they're an old school place with lots of tradition who love doing what they do. This is a good bakery. There are of course some things I don't love, but mostly it is a great place. We've ordered all my son's birthday cakes here and they've always done a great job. This isn't where you want to come if you're looking for super fancy decorations but they do a nice job and the cake is delicious. The rolls and bread are wonderful and the doughnuts are the best around. Be sure to get a kettle donut if they aren't sold out by the time you get there. The jelly doughnuts are packed with jelly and they are made fresh daily. Well worth a stop in or an order for cakes etc. YUM! read more

Had Halloween cookies made up for my small wedding dinner with family. A picture was provided with 4 designs which were easy and nothing intricate. Was told it would be no problem. When I picked up the cookies they were very disappointing. The royal icing was thin enough you could see the cookie beneath it and was not piped in a boarder as you do with icing sugar cookies with royal icing. They either rushed the job or are inexperienced to ice a simple sugar cookie. They cookies were also much larger in size than I was told. They didn't even taste good enough to forgive the decorating job. Will not be back and wish I didn't waste the time or money. read more
