Strawberry Shortcake
Desmone H.

Found this cake during a last minute search on a Sunday. I was concerned about the quality cake we would get on such short notice. Not only did they have the cake we wanted (Strawberry Shortcake), but it was delicious!! 5 days later I'm eating the cake, and it is still yummy!! It was very clean inside too

Wow! I'm so happy I discovered this cafe and I'm antsy to return soon. We were immediately greeted…read moreby a friendly face who welcomed us in. The menu and everything in the display cases looked so appetizing, we had such a difficult time choosing what to order! We started with BEC sandwiches - they were made really well on delicious toasted rolls - my only complaint was the Kraft American cheese singles. Please upgrade the cheese and it will make the world of a difference to the meal!! I also had a hot tea with some pastries we got: Oreo cheesecake and an ombligo with a custard filling - absolutely delicious and perfectly sweetened. The inside decor was very nice and offered comfy soft seating to dine in with. I will definitely make a drive up soon from Norwalk to enjoy some more!

We had thought this might be related to the Dulce de Leche chain in northern New Jersey, but it's a…read moresmall place with a local vibe. We tried the beef and the spinach/mushroom empanadas, a chocolate filled pastry and the alfajores. The empanadas were the proper baked Argentinian version. I thought the beef was very tasty but it lacked the chopped olive I associate with the Argentinian style. La Portena had no complaints about her spinach/mushroom version. The alfajores came in three sizes, something I did not realize when ordering. I would not repeat my order of the large size, the ratio of cookie to filling being off. The medium looked about right. The best item was a chocolate filled pastry, similar to a croissant that I had the next day. Flaky and light, it revealed some skill in the baking.

I did the sourdough baking class. That was a wonderful,…read moreenlightening experience. The class size was about 8-10 of us, a nice mix of people like me who were new to the sourdough adventure, and some more experienced. The class was $200. The different stages of starter development, proofing, fermentation, shaping and baking were demonstrated. At the end, you get a container of starter and a loaf to take home. For a new sourdough baker, I wish there was more hands on so you feel the textures of the dough.

There are sandwiches, sweet treats, sourdough bread varieties, focaccia, cookies, coffee and more. The place is inviting and casual with air of class and attention to detail. Very welcoming. There is seating avaible to enjoy your coffee or cornetto. The products are all thoughtfully displayed and the service was genuinely friendly and upbeat. The cornetto with him and cheese was a simple and delicious sandwich. The bomboloni (1 pistachio and 1 lemon) were light and decadent at the same time, with a creamy custard like filling with subtle tastes of lemon and pistachio. I will be coming back for these. The garlic sourdough was filled with whole garlic gloves baked in with a nice chewy outside crust and soft inside. The country sourdough was equally amazing. Both great for dipping, sandwiches, toast, or simply spreading with a good quality butter or jam. There are no preservatives or artificial ingredients and all is made by hand. Right off the Post Rd in Westport with a small parking lot shared with other businesses. I highly recommend and will be a regular!
