Placed a phone order and it was ready for pick up in 15 minutes on a busy Friday around noon so that was nice. It's open daily 11am-9pm, except Sunday! Parking is in the back and very small but there is street parking available Inside is very small but there is outdoor seating. Ordered the Hainan Chicken ($14.50) and the chicken has definitely shrunk in portion compared to several years ago when I last had it. The chicken tasted very bland and disappointing. Thank goodness for the ginger sauce and chili sauce otherwise it would have had no flavor! The rice didn't taste like it was steamed in chicken broth and just seemed like plain white rice. Overall, I was very disappointed with the Hainan Chicken and most likely won't return or recommend unfortunately.
Savoy Kitchen is known for their Hainan Chicken and my partner and I were excited to go back to get some after a whole year. We parked in the designated parking and put our names down. It was around a 15 minute wait for us, which was pretty quick since we were 2 people. We sat down and were helped right away; we ordered the Hainan Chicken with Rice and Salad. The first few times we went, the chicken portion was a lot, but sadly it seemed like the portion had shrunk and we got some white meat even though we asked for dark meat ($1 extra). Savoy Kitchen used to be the go-to spot for Hainan Chicken, but we were disappointed by how small the chicken was and the rice was not that fragrant. It used to be a lot softer and had a strong chicken stock flavor. The salad was standard and so were the dipping sauces which you could ask for more if needed (we love the minced ginger sauce!). I am not sure what happened to the quality of the plates, but hoping this was just a one-off bad day. Great ambiance in the restaurant. Bustling with lots of people and the food came quite quickly.
If you're looking for a top-tier fusion dish that doesn't break the bank, Savoy absolutely delivers. Their Filet Mignon with Asian Black Pepper Sauce ($19.99) is easily one of the best value meals around. The tender, juicy filet steak cooked perfectly and smothered in a rich, savory black pepper sauce that packs just the right amount of kick. Paired with a side of white rice to soak up all that extra sauce, steaming broccoli, and fresh bread, it's a deeply satisfying meal from start to finish.
Placed a phone order for pick up. Everything was ready within minutes. Still one of my favorite restaurants. I try to get food there whenever I am in the area. Hainan Chicken Rice is one of my go-to meals. I always order an extra ginger sauce. Of course, portion size has been going down through the years and price is up but this is still my favorite here. The dark soy sauce, ginger sauce, and hot sauce were good accompaniments for the poached chicken. The rice had a delicious flavor from the chicken broth used during preparation. This is still the exemplary Hainan Chicken Rice that I use to compare others to. Shrimp Rolls came nine to an order. They were crispy with a good tasting filling and a mild spicy sauce. Great for sharing. My other favorite item is the Curry Beef Tendon Brisket. Their Malaysian style curry sauce is slightly lighter in color than before but still tasted the same. There were plenty of tender, gelatinous beef tendons in the curry and it was served with steamed rice topped with caramelized onions. The onions had a good flavor from the caramelization. Service was very polite and efficient. The dedicated parking lot across the street from the restaurant is very convenient.
Came during lunch time and a great slot. It was packed to the brim already but a couple tables had just wrapped up so we were seated quickly even after filling out the sign in sheet being 4th in line (: My mom and auntie wanted to try this spot and they are def critical and surprisingly they liked it! Loved the chicken broth as there is a small hint of ginsing herb in it. Very light and clean broth. The hainan chicken was hitting as always and I love love the ginger and orange sauce they have. Def worth stopping by if one is craving a relatively clean and healthy meal.
Savoy Kitchen is probably one of the most well known hole in the wall gems of outskirts LA. It's been around since the early 1980s. My parents have been coming here since their hey days, and I apparently came here with them as a baby. Quality and authenticity of the food here is so good. First of all, we came about 40 minutes before closing. They were about to seat us outside, but then the waiter noticed that we had two babies int he party. He was so nice. As soon as he saw that, he told the restaurant we couldn't sit outside, that we should be inside because it was cold and dark out. He earned major kudos from my mom with that thoughtful gesture. We ordered 2 orders of the hainan chicken with rice, beef curry, fish with cream sauce and pasta, and duck pasta. Everything was amazing. The hainan chicken rice was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The chicken was tender and juicy. It was a clear favorite in the group. The beef curry was filled with umami, and the beef was braised so tender. The beef curry was my dad's and my favorite. My husband and daughters enjoyed the duck pasta the most. It had the essence of a spaghetti, which the little girls loved, but the uniqueness of duck which my husband loved. My mom really liked the fish in cream sauce. No fuss or frills, just delicious food and fast service. If I lived nearby, we'd come much more often!
Amazing Hainan Chicken (all dark meat). Other dishes were okay. Got the mushroom cream pasta which was decent but the duck pizza seemed very whatever. Almost tasted like a frozen pizza that was doctored up. They give you Fresh bread. We dined in but very limited seating so we had to sit outside. Service was fast.
This place is always busy. Got the Friday special, of tail stew, was so good. Staff are friendly and food was very fast.
Made it here before the crowds on Memorial Day. Arrived at ~11:30 am and was seated at the counter which was perfect. We had the classic Hainan Chicken Rice $14.50, dark meat only $2 upcharge and the smoked duck pizza $14.95. The food had good flavor. It is what you expect from Hainan Chicken Rice. My friend commented that barbecue sauce would have gone well with her smoked duck pizza. Service is quick. The staff was busy with indoor and outdoor tables. Indoor seating is limited. There is more outdoor seating. However, the restaurant does a substantial amount of takeout orders. That's the way to go!
It's been some time since we've frequented Savoy, so it was nice to be back. We stopped by after the gym and were seated right away, which was a great start to the visit. We ordered the Beef Curry with Rice and the Hainan Chicken with Dark Meat, Rice & Salad. The beef curry was rich, savory, and comforting, while the Hainan chicken was tender and flavorful. Both dishes made for a satisfying post-gym meal. Overall, it was great to return to an old favorite. Good food, quick seating, and a familiar experience that brought back some memories.
I haven't been here since 2011 and I am glad I came back. It has been such a big change since the last time I tried Hainan chicken dish. There's a lot more seating which is at the patio area compared to back then and definitely a change in decor and interior design. There are more staff who each help with ordering and clean up, we came before the dinner rush and sat inside which can only fit 2-3 per table. We ordered the hainan chicken with rice, creamy fish pasta, and shrimp spring rolls. I loved the spring rolls, crispy and savory a little but if sweet with the sauce. There's Hainan chicken we got dark meat which is $1 extra, looks a lot smaller than expected compared to the rice which was 3/4 the dish. There's best part of the meal was the creamy fish pasta, cheesy and creamy full of mushrooms and fish fillet. I think it was amazing, but not for those lactose intolerant. They had a private restroom available which the key is near the cashier counter and the restroom is located in the back of the building around the alley. Very small bathroom, the size of a closet. Overall, it was great, the place is busy as ever and would like to come back to try their other dishes as well.
Wow Savoy WTF happened to you guys. The quality is completely gone. Just look at that sorry ass chicken. Dry dark meat and taste like fridge. No need to come here anymore.
Wow, how long has it been. I used to come here all the time, Unfortunately a few things changed. The amount of chicken is reduced, and it's no more refils on the ice tea. Service is still good, the staff is quick the food comes out really quick. Seating is limited, but it's not as packed as it used to be. We got the classic hainan chicken rice it's very good and tasted the same as 10 years ago. ( Feels like less chicken though) Baked white fish fillet with pasta, this is so creamy and thick. Beware of food coma, I took a nap when I got home.

Came by on a Wednesday around 3PM and it wasn't busy at all- got seated indoors right away. The inside is pretty small with limited tables, but they have a super cute patio outside that has a really chill, vibey feel. Gives cozy mom-and-pop shop energy with authentic food. Service was quick and friendly too. 1. Baked Escargot with Herb Butter- a nice starter, light enough to leave room for the mains. 2. Curry Beef Stew - comforting and flavorful, not too spicy so even if you can't handle heat, you'll be fine. 3. Hainan Chicken Rice - their signature dish and definitely the star. The rice is flavored and the chicken is soft and tender. 4. Seafood Pasta- a nice alternative to the rice dishes. Creamy and flavorful without feeling super heavy. Parking's easy; there's a small lot to the left of the restaurant plus free street parking. the hainan chicken rice is a must try! read more

Ate here a million times already. How have I not reviewed this spot yet?? Their hainan chicken rice is the star of the show. Pretty basic but it's good. The interior is extremely small like 2-3 small tables and few high tops. The outdoors is pretty much on the sidewalk and the tables are small and very close to one another. You know what you're getting yourself into here. No frills place. They have their daily specials and it just so happens that it's Wednesday and they had bun rieu that day. It was so flavorful, better than most places and def put some Vietnamese restaurants to shame tbh. I remember last time I came on a Friday and they had oxtail! You put your name on the list and they will seat you accordingly. It can get pretty busy sometimes. They have a parking lot right across the street but otherwise street parking. read more

Had the mushroom pasta and escargot. The pasta was pretty good but only con is that there isn't as much pasta to sauce ratio. The sauce was also good but more on the watery instead of creamy. The escargot came without the shell and the seasoning wasn't as flavorful and robust with flavor. Wouldn't get again. The bread could definitely be better, it's super simple pizza bread and many places have tasted better. Service was really good and fast! The restaurant had nice outdoor seating. read more
Been a customer for over 25 years! This is like my 2nd or 3rd review within the past 15/16 years! Never in my mind I'll give less than a 4.5 stat because their food and service is consistent. For people that say this place is just Hainan chicken, you don't just come here for the hype...you have to try other stuff too. Let me tell you, this place is more than Hainan chicken. In fact, thats the not the favorite thing I love to get. They have chicken broth, escargot, shrimp roll, different pasta, pizza, cream brûlée. Everything's decent and good. Don't tell me you are a foodie when you come here only knowing about Hainan chicken or never tried other food. This place never fails ; the food, the servers and service. Great food, friendly servers and fast service! This place is small but has bright interior. i enjoy sitting down eating by myself or with a couple of friends chitchatting. Savoy was such a pleasant surprise. I got the Hainan chicken with just dark meat and it was juicy and flavorful. The sauces were perfect and the rice had that classic aroma and texture that tied everything together. I also tried the duck pasta and escargot. The duck was a little dry but I enjoyed the smoky taste and the pasta sauce was rich and savory. The escargot was delicious too. The whole meal felt like an Asian fusion twist I did not know I needed. Shout out the servers they were so sweet! read more

SERVICE - efficient. They have a good system going. Quick even during lunch rush hour. FOOD - the hainan chicken is fine. It's plain, and portion is just ok. Lots of rice but not a lot of chicken. The rice is not really or only slightly flavored. Soy sauce is literally just soy sauce. Will come back if in the area but won't drive here just for this. Red Chicken in San Gabriel has better hainan chicken in my opinion, and don't charge extra for dark meat. They even give free soup and rice is more flavorful. read more
Clean, simple, yet delicious food at Savoy Kitchen! They are a family-owned restaurant that has been a favorite amongst Alhambra locals. My gf and I sat at the bar and experienced great service and had an amazing meal! We got the savoy chicken which came with rice, salad, and sauces. This was a healthy and flavorful meal, definitely plan on eating here again. read more

in the neighborhood for a quick bite. and remembered this is a popular place for hainan chicken rice. a very small corner unit with limited seating. they also setup sidewalk seatings under canopies. but in 92 degree heat, there just not enough cool air from the small fans installed on the wall. we ordered hainan chicken with rice and fried shrimp rolls to share and 2 ice water. our seats are next to the waitress station, but we had to asked for water 3 times before we got our drinks. hainan chicken came first. our first thought: where's the chicken?!. portion of the meat are bare a quarter chicken size. rice was flavored but not flavorful enough. let's just say we've had better hainan chicken w/ rice in all the other places we've tried. shrimp rolls came with 9 pieces, which I thought was larger than most other restaurants. but I also think i've overheard the waitresses talking that they gave the wrong plate to our table, as it's meant for their friend's table. although it's got multiple signs outside their building with 'Hainan Chicken' (meaning their famous dish), but their Yelp menu don't even have Hainan Chicken and most of their dishes were more pasta, curry and pizza?! we think we've had much better hainan chicken elsewhere. read more

I have come to eat at this amazingly tasty restaurant for over 20 years, if not longer. All of the dishes are very delicious, they accept cash only. My personal favorite dish is the Hainan chicken (dark meat) with rice (and salad), but all of their dishes taste good. My girlfriend gets the chicken breast white meat Hainan chicken and rice. I ask for extra servings of their ginger sauce when I sit outside of the restaurant, especially if I feel like I may be under the weather soon. I haven't been sick since late 2022, so Savoy has served its purpose in keeping me healthy! My other friend likes the Bolognese chicken dish, which also tastes good. The iced coffee is small, but it hits the spot. If you do takeout, they charge extra for extra ginger sauce. It's very a popular place during the day for takeout. Highly recommend this place to rest, I see many dating couples, but I go with my female buddies to hang out and chill. read more
OMG I came here with my friends per their recommendation. I ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice with dark meat and it was absolutely life-changing. Initially I judged it because it looked unseasoned but I was so wrong. The chicken (and rice) were perfectly seasoned and the dipping sauces were very flavorful. The salad had a "Thousand Island" type dressing and it was pretty good too. I also tried the Baked Esgargot and it was BOMBBBB-super creamy/rich tasting-I also highly recommend. The service was pretty quick and the ambiance was pretty chill considering we sat outside. The only weird thing that happened was that the server was haggling my friend/making comments for a tip which was pretty awkward. read more
Savoy Kitchen was recommended to me by my younger brother's real estate agent. This restaurant is known for their famous Hainan chicken rice. It is located at the corner of Valley Blvd and Monterey St in Alhambra. They have their very own parking lot right diagonally across the street from their restaurant. Don't worry... parking is free. You can't miss it... there's a huge print painted on the wall that says "Savoy Parking... Famous Hainan Chicken Since 1982" LOL. It was late in the evening so I decided to call them and place my order for take-out. I was on my way out of town so I got a few food items. The lady who picked up the phone was very pleasant and nice. I got their famous Hainan chicken rice with half dark and half white meat, their signature Curry chicken with pasta, and very popular Shrimp pizza. Yes, it was indeed enough food for 2 days worth of meals. After I got here, I parked across the street and walked on over. I was surprised the inside was super tiny maybe 2 no more than 3 small tables. However, they do have a very nice covered outside patio dining area... quite romantic actually. They probably get really busy so do get here early to snatch yourself a table with minimal wait time. Lady behind the counter was friendly and sweet. My order was ready upon arrival and just had to pay for it. I was on my way soon after. My visit was quite quick. So now onto my food review... 1. Hainan chicken rice - chicken was flavorful and moist, rice could have been softer, love the ginger sauce, came with a fresh salad (will get again) 2. Curry chicken pasta - very well seasoned curry, tons of chicken meat, great portion of rice (will get again) 3. Shrimp pizza - slightly disappointed, didn't have much flavor to it IMHO, crust was thin, sauce was okay (probably won't get again) Will I be back again? Yes, for sure. Came in at 12pm and there were two parties in the waitlist ahead of mine. We waited a few minutes before we realized they had already called our table. I suggest staying near the waitlist sheet because we were right around the corner of the restaurant and missed them calling for us. After speaking to the restaurant staff about this, they let us quickly get seated in the bar area which they left empty at the time. My table ordered a rice, pasta, and pizza dish; and I honestly liked them all. Something that stands out to me is that each dish had a light flavor profile, which I enjoyed. The hainan chicken was so tender and tasted really good with the various sauces. The rice had some chicken fragrance but was mostly mild. This is probably the best hainan chicken in the area. The seafood pasta was light and delicious. I would definitely order this again. The duck pizza was also mild (I don't mean this to be negative). The flavors are light and something about this pizza just tastes Chinese. Strangely enough, the semi-fatty duck works really well in the dish. Stopped by for lunch as I needed something quick and filling but also wanted to sit down from a busy morning. I was seated outside right away as I kind of beat the typical lunch crowd but there were still a good amount of parties dining. Got the hainan chicken with rice and salad and the seafood pasta in creamy sauce. Food came out fast and the pasta came with a side of pizza bread. Bread is amazing and on the soft side but tastes so good dipped in their seafood pasta sauce which also has garlic butter inside. I usually get the baked version but realized I like the non baked version so much more! Everything was super tasty and just as good as I remember, if anything it was even better this time around. Quick fix lunch. Service was fast. The inside seating was limited with 3 tables but kind of cute. There were also outside seating with little bit more room. Street parking or to their lot that was across the street. The curry beef tendon brisket was well cooked. The meat was sooooooo tender. Had it with pasta but might be more satisfying with rice. The Hainan chicken was tender and smooth. Love the ginger and the spicy sauce. Would've been better with little bit more chicken. Probably ordering the half chicken individually would be a better idea. read more

A cute and cozy corner cafe that produces really decent Hainan chicken in a number of dish styles (wi/rice and/or salad, and/or pasta, and/or just chicken) and a nice variety of pastas and pizza. Outside covered patio seating available for about 20, inside are four small 4-tops and a few counter seats. Service is very personable and friendly. Parking is street-only and quite competitive. 3 sauces are a soy and rich roasted chicken brown sauce, garlic in oil, and a light semi sriracha aioli kind of sauce. Wait times can get quite long (no waitlist) so try to arrive off peak. read more

Savoy Kitchen is a legendary spot known for serving up some of the best and authentic Hainan chicken in the 626 and all of SoCal! To get here, street parking will be your best bet but there are also some parking lots nearby as well. Inside, they have a smaller setup with about 4-5 tables for seating and then an additional 5-6 tables in their patio. Wifey and I pulled up for lunch around 12pm and were seated right away upon arrival. For their menu, they have different rice, curry, pasta, and pizza dishes. We both opted for the Hainan Chicken Rice + Salad with Dark Meat. The meal was simple, delicious, and comforting to the soul! Overall, I have been eating here for years and it never misses! All of the staff are very attentive and welcoming. Savoy's Hainan chicken is tried and true and they deserve their flowers! There is a reason why this spot has over 4,000+ positive reviews! read more

Haven't been back here in half a decade, pre-pandemic. Figured why not come here on a Thursday night when there isn't any of the weekend lines. I don't remember the portions being so small.. times have changed. Pains me to say, this have been crossed off my nostalgic spots to come back to. 33. Hainan Chicken Rice (White Meat)- chicken itself was tender and juicy but didn't seem as flavorful as before. You must eat it with their all 3 sauces otherwise there's not much depth in flavor. [ Parking ] I never knew they had their own parking lot across the small street, maybe it's new or just that I haven't been there in a while. Look out for the big mural/sign. This place serves up delicious Hainan Chicken. Honestly, come for their chicken, cuz that is what they're best known for. Food: 5/5 We ordered their original Hainan chicken. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. The chicken was tender and very juicy. The sauces pair nicely with everyone. I like the spicy red one. Service: 5/5 The service was great. We got seated right as soon as our whole party was present. We ordered and they literally brought out the dishes in less than 5 minutes. Guess it was premade and only needed to be assembled. Ambiance: 5/5 We got seated outside. It was beautiful day so it made it so much better. read more

At first when you walk in, the restaurant is quite homey and small; there's a small section of outdoor seating in addition to the 3-4 tables and a counter space inside. It's super busy, with the workers constantly taking orders, answering calls, etc. but the lighting is soft and warm, making for a nice romantic atmosphere for a date outside or a simple family meal inside. When we first sat down the waitress with braids was especially kind in explaining the menu and what the typical order from others were. It's an Asian-Italian fusion restaurant which explains the pasta dishes and the bread + oil & vinegar you get at the beginning. She recommended the shrimp rolls as an appetizer, the creamy mushroom pasta, duck pizza, and the Hainanese chicken, but we opted for the traditional pasta and seafood salad. For a table of 3 she recommended we get a half chicken and a side of rice because the dish itself doesn't come with rice. I've heard of this place being known for its Hainan style chicken but we came for the cold seafood pasta salad (which was a hit, the scallops, octopus, and pasta were the perfect combination of soft yet crunchy and the sesame dressing was amazing!!! This was my favorite dish). The pasta was reminiscent of HK style pasta, sweet and savory with a heaping portion of the ground sirloin. The shrimp rolls were nice and crunchy, but the chicken itself was dry and the only thing we didn't finish out of our selection. The sauces they gave with the chicken were a great touch, the selection lets you have a bit of everything, though my favorite is always the ginger scallion sauce. read more

I'm not sure, but as of now they are operating as the usual.
Are there free refills for the lemon tea?
Not anymore! They give a larger cup then before though. And it's pre-sweetened. You can't add the syrup yourself too.

Was the Chile sauce for the hainan chicken recently changed? I just picked up order today and sauce seems a bit more diluted/pale than usual and less red. Tasted a little off.
