Bread is amazing and on the soft side but tastes so good dipped in their seafood pasta sauce which also has garlic butter inside. I usually get the baked version but realized I like the non baked version so much more! Everything was super tasty and just as good as I remember, if anything it was even better this time around. To get here, street parking will be your best bet but there are also some parking lots nearby as well. Inside, they have a smaller setup with about 4-5 tables for seating and then an additional 5-6 tables in their patio. Wifey and I pulled up for lunch around 12pm and were seated right away upon arrival. For their menu, they have different rice, curry, pasta, and pizza dishes. At first when you walk in, the restaurant is quite homey and small; there's a small section of outdoor seating in addition to the 3-4 tables and a counter space inside. When we first sat down the waitress with braids was especially kind in explaining the menu and what the typical order from others were. It's an Asian-Italian fusion restaurant which explains the pasta dishes and the bread + oil & vinegar you get at the beginning. She recommended the shrimp rolls as an appetizer, the creamy mushroom pasta, duck pizza, and the Hainanese chicken, but we opted for the traditional pasta and seafood salad. For a table of 3 she recommended we get a half chicken and a side of rice because the dish itself doesn't come with rice. I've heard of this place being known for its Hainan style chicken but we came for the cold seafood pasta salad (which was a hit, the scallops, octopus, and pasta were the perfect combination of soft yet crunchy and the sesame dressing was amazing!!! This was my favorite dish). The pasta was reminiscent of HK style pasta, sweet and savory with a heaping portion of the ground sirloin. The shrimp rolls were nice and crunchy, but the chicken itself was dry and the only thing we didn't finish out of our selection. Visited this place for the first time since post pandemic to eat some solid hainanese chicken and rice. The outdoor seating was a nice addition and they added cute holiday decor for Christmas. The service was quick and friendly. I arrived on a Friday late lunch time and was seated immediately. Hainan chicken with rice was mid, sauces were good, and the traditional pasta I ordered on a whim was good for the price and the complimentary bread was good. My family, friends and I have been dining here for more than two decades now, and even today, it is the default and best Hainan chicken place we have tried in all of San Gabriel Valley. We've tried several other Hainan chicken places, like some of them as well, but this place is still hands down still the best all around. Other items on the menu is not exactly impressive or outstanding, but they are still pretty good according to normal standards. Their complimentary bread tastes good, so does their conch pasta and chrysanthemum tea. Curries are not bad, Baked Escargot w/ Herb Butter is decent but oily, Shrimp rolls are okay - crunchy and small. Service is fast, buying take-out to-go is the best option for not wanting to wait. Though they are packed all the time, parking is fairly convenient with their dedicated parking lot across the street plus street parking. We take out-of-town guests here all the time, order party trays for events, and buy take-out for normal everyday meal frequently. 95% of the time is to buy their Hainan Chicken Rice with dark meat (tastes softer & sweeter). Update on my review since it's been over 8 years. This spot continues to have the best Hainan chicken around, hands down. The only downside is that it's 45 minutes to an hour away from us, but it's totally worth the drive. One thing to note, though--they no longer offer free iced tea refills, which is a bummer. It's also pre-sweetened as to before you can pour the syrup to your liking. It's a bit sweet but I let the ice melt and it was fine. Or add some water to it? lol But the real perk of dining in is you get all the ginger sauce you want. For takeout, the sauce comes in tiny containers, so you miss out on that! The service is incredibly fast. Even with a 22-month-old, we were able to eat and go within 45 minutes. We even ordered the smoked duck pizza, which takes around 30 minutes, but everything was served quickly and efficiently. We visited on Labor Day (Monday) around 12:30 pm, and despite six people ahead of us, we only waited 20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad at all. They have their own parking lot that's easy to spot, but you can also park on the street--just make sure to check for street sweeping signs. Note, the place is small and not great for big groups. If you do plan on going with a big group, it's best to be the first ones in line when they open. Otherwise, you might be waiting for a bit. Still my go-to spot for Hainan chicken! I come here from time to time since the 90's; dishes always taste great but the portions are getting smaller and smaller while the prices are higher and higher :( First it's the Hainan chicken, so I stopped ordering it. Before the most recent price increase (2025-04), the curry pork chop has 3/8" thick fried pork chops in it. Now with slightly higher price (2025-06), the pork chops are only 1/8" thin (I couldn't tell if it has been fried since they're so thin). Very disappointed and most likely not coming back. Went through a very unpleasant experience that puts me in extreme bad mood. I don't think I'll be back despite going there for decades (grew up eating this stuff). Went in to pick up my order. There was one person ahead of me. As I wait in line, an older Asian man cuts in line and gets serviced by the Hispanic staff off to the side. Super annoying. Dude walks back n forth as I tried to flag him down/get his attention. I just want to pay and go, why is it so difficult? Not sure why I'm being ignored/not acknowledged. Do I need to be as rude as the cut-in-line man to get service or what? I'm right at the counter. Don't tell me he didn't see me. Another older Asian man comes in behind me. The Asian girl is freed up, but instead of ringing me up, she skips me and serves the man that came after me. WTH. What is going on? Am I invisible? At that point, I flipped and exclaimed, "I'm next in line!" She did apologize and explained she thought I've been helped. Well, she has her co-worker to thank for (being sarcastic). Dude is walking back now forth, ignoring me and taking in customer that cut in line. There is limited street parking on Valley and more parking in a lot on Monterey across from the restaurant and on the street. We recommend their creamy pastas, Hainan chicken, chicken soup, and creamy baked sole. We recommend avoiding the pizzas and getting pizza from Petrillo's instead. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating. The severs and cashiers are businesslike and efficient. They can get very busy during peak hours. One of our favorite spots for a healthy meal with plenty of protein to hit our macros! I usually get the high-on chicken with dark meat (extra $2), and the rice is always soft and flavorful. We're obsessed with their ginger, and I love how generous they are with it -- same with the sauces, which are never stingy. One small downside is that takeout orders come with only a small amount of ginger and sauces, while dining in gives you unlimited servings. They also used to have refillable lemon iced teas, but now they only offer a 24-ounce cup. I do miss the unlimited lemon ice tea refills! The ginger sauce for the hainan chicken is the best, and the meat is always super tender. I wish they gave more meat, but I understand that's just the way it is now with the economy. Parking can be a challenge, and they're closed on Sundays. The bathrooms require a key and are located in a back alley, which I don't feel comfortable going to (but guys might be fine). Most folks including myself come to Savoy Kitchen when the craving for Hainan Chicken hits. While they have other items on their menu, everyone around me had the same platter of white chicken on their table, with heaping ginger sauce dishes. The wait was about 20 minutes for a party of two on a Saturday night - not too bad for a place this popular! If you order a quarter chicken, it comes with rice and salad, but the half-chicken is a la carte which means the rice has to be ordered separately. I found a bit strange; does anyone eat Hainan Chicken without the rice...? Onto the food itself: the chicken is moist and tender, but let's be honest: it's the sauce that makes the taste. The ginger sauce is solid, but I've had better elsewhere; it's awesome that they will refill the sauces for you though, plenty of other chicken restaurants are stingy and will charge. I do like the chili sauce, I think that's quite unique. You can't miss the custom red and yellow neon signs popping against the evening sky. A ruby red mural (curiously painted onto a building across the street) points toward the dedicated parking lot. You can barely see into the cramped corner shop through the dense blinds. Inside are only a handful of round wooden tables and window-side half-booths. You'll have better luck securing a seat within the vine-and-planter-bounded patio space running perpendicular to Valley. Stainless steel patio furniture is pressed against the exposed brick wall, and twinkle lights cast a warm glow over the space. The sound of silverware scraping against plastic plates blends with the hum of street traffic. A friend and I faced a minimal queue on a weekday evening, while I was met with a 30-minute wait for weekday lunch. Of course, on both visits, I ordered the signature Hainan Chicken Rice & Salad. The slightly skimpy portion of tender, poached, skin-on chicken was nothing remarkable, nor were the baseball-size mound of stock-cooked rice or standard side salad. Rather, the food served more as a conduit for the upscale sauces. The mustard-forward salad dressing popped, and the 3 dipping sauces (a fermented soy sauce, tangy chili sauce, and strong ginger paste) were each uniquely tasty. Most notably, servers will refill the sauces across your meal, so no need to ration them out. Meanwhile, the made-to-order Smoked Duck Pizza paired a flavor-forward protein with Italian-ish ingredients and bready, Little Caesar's-esque crust. Indulgent 2) Seafood Pasta: -You have the choice of having your seafood baked in either tomato, garlic, or cream sauce and we opted for the cream sauce. Simple taste and not too heavily rich. Came with a generous amount of seafood such as squid, shrimp, and scallops. The seafood is baked separately from the noodles (which are medium width flat pasta noodles), so you can enjoy them separately, toss the noodles in, etc. 3) Hainan Chicken Rice: -A MUST when you dine here. There are several variations you can get with this dish that include no salad, with salad, +$1 for dark meat, half chicken, whole chicken, chicken and rice only, etc. -We opted to get the dark meat version that came with rice and a side of salad and dressing. -All dishes come with the required chili and ginger sauce to dip the pieces of chicken in. Meat was super moist and flavorful. You can really taste it in the rice as well. Rich chicken essence taste without tasting too "chicken-y" if that makes sense and adding a taste of chili and ginger here and there gave great variation and made it so you can't grow tired of the dish. -Good stuff. We also got the Wednesday lunch special which was the Vietnamese style crab paste noodle. For only $12.25, it came with A LOT of crab paste/meat...seemingly more meat than noodles. It was flavorful, but wasn't my favorite dish. We came for a late lunch (~1:30pm) so there was no wait and the servers were extremely efficient. Their lemon iced tea is delicious! They give you a big cup. My suggestion is that since it costs $3, they should do free refills especially during the Summer. Service is great even though during lunch is really busy. Nearby, they have a parking lot. Ambiance is crowded and crazy but it is worth it. Reminder: this place closes on Sundays!!! To the staff...
