This place is amazing, and I only wish we had found it sooner. It's not very far from us and we've actually been to other nearby businesses, but somehow, we were unaware of this East Valley gem. Our friends mentioned it and we put it in to our GPS and met them there for dinner one night. Wow. The place was rocking. People were coming through the doors non-stop and picking up phone orders. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. Ordered drinks and food. Everything was amazing. My wife got a huge salad, I got a calzone, and our friends got a very thick Sicilian pizza with ham and pepperoni. We also had two orders of their garlic knots which are fantastic. We have already been back two other times with some different friends and then a mix of all 3 groups of friends on our most recent visit. Cannot recommend this place enough. If you're on the hunt for a pizza place that delivers on flavor and size, then you're gonna love Sal's. Their Sicilian-style pizza is exceptional. The crust has a unique thickness and chewiness giving it a unique texture that I don't any other pizza place in Gilbert does. It's always cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and softness on the inside. However, this means it takes a while too. Good things come to those who wait. A Sicilian-style pizza in your order will automatically make it a 45 minute+ wait. My other personal favorite is the Drunken Grandpa Pizza, which features a square thin crust, fresh mozzarella, pink sauce, and fresh basil. My only issue is that they underestimate how long your order will take. I'd rather they tell me it'll be an hour and have it be an hour or less versus them telling me it'll be an hour and have it be an hour and a half. I've sat in that lobby for way too long. But it's not enough to ding a star. Sal's Gilbert Pizza is a must-visit if you're looking for pizza in the Gilbert area. read more

I had heard so much about this place and it is a bit far from where we live, but was able to make a trip in the middle of the week. Be advised, that even in the middle of the week, this place is busy, can only imagine on the weekend. Also be advised, IT IS WORTH THE WAIT. We went as a group, so I was able to try lots of different foods, from pizza and pasta, to salads and rice balls, everything was delicious. Their red sauce is sooo good, all their sauces are good. What We Ordered: - GRANDMA PIZZA: We ordered a slice and to be honest, it doesn't "wow" the eyeballs haha, but the taste is actually really lovely. It's simple (plum tomato sauce, provolone, basil) and is surprisingly delicious. -BAKED ZITI PIZZA: We had to try this out because it's so unique. We ordered a slice and it was massive! I was afraid it would be too heavy, but the ultra thin, crispy bottom layer of crust balance the "heaviness" and adds a different texture to complement the chewy pasta. Add chili flakes for some heat! -SPECIAL CALZONE: I love the portions here. The calzone was bigger than the tray. Hearty stuffings (sausage, ham, bell peppers, mushrooms) with ricotta. -DRUNKEN MEATBALL SUB: So. Dang. Good. Read below. The Highlight: The highlight was the Drunken Meatball Sub. I actually got this to-go for my sister...but snuck a bite when I got home...and then ended up eating half of the sub haha. It was SO good. We saw Sal's on triple D. We decided to try it out on a Saturday afternoon. When we arrived they were pretty busy. We put our name in and we were seated in about 10 minutes. Our waitress arrived quickly and took our drink order and answered a couple questions. We ended up ordering a large pizza 1/2 meat lovers 1/2 baked Ziti and two side salads. Salads came out first. They were big and fresh. Then the pizza arrived. I was on the fence on the baked ziti half, but I was totally wrong! What a fantastic pizza, I would definitely order it again. I've stopped in 4 times at lunch. You order at the front counter I guess but it seems like if you are a group you're seated and get menus. I've had pizza, sandwiches and the meat ravioli. I had the best dinner last night at Sals. What was even better was our server Madeline. She was amazing!!!!! Both my husband and I just got over being sick. We just really wanted some good Italian food, that would make us feel like we were back home. I asked if they had soup: she proceeded to rave about the Italian wedding soup. She explained that it was her go to when she does not feel her best. Well let me say she was not lying this soup was hands down one of the best I have had ever!!!! We had Calamari it was perfectly cooked. We had a few slices of pizza and a eggplant parm sub . The soup was a really large portion so we brought home most of the pizza and sandwich. We haven't found anything we didn't love; service has always been great, and it has a wonderful atmosphere. My favorite is the Bolognese with your choice of pasta. My wife says the pizzas by the slice is to die for and my adult daughter enjoys the chicken Parmigiana.
