This had been a truly wonderful place, some years back. I went there for lunch yesterday, and found it had tumbled down a fairly steep slope. The pun klib dumplings were gooey, with a small bit of something brown inside, not too inspiring. The sizzling beef did indeed arrive sizzling, which is ever fun, but so much of the meat was unchewable gristle that all in all it was a not-fun experience. When I asked for hot sauce it was delivered as a couple of prepackaged take-out servings. With only two tables in use in the restaurant the overall service could easily have been better. The Thai Food here is pretty good! I'm usually not a fan of Thai Food (spiciness), but today's lunch was tasty! Yelp Check-in: Free Drink, five mini fried bananas or Gyozas. I would personally get the drink (Thai Iced Tea or Gyozas. The Fried Mini Bananas looked adorable, but it doesn't seem feeling. Parking: They have their own lot as well as street parking. Oh, wow. I hadn't been here in years and everything was just as delicious as I remembered it to be. We ordered the Panang Chicken and the Shrimp Pad Thai. The Panang Chicken was the richest, creamiest and most delicious Panang I have ever had. Oh, so good. And the spice was spot on! The Pad Thai was also delicious. 10 years ago this was my favorite place to eat and I would drive from an hour away where I lived, just to come back to this restaurant. I'm not sure what happened, I'm assuming it changed ownership, but the food now is in the middle range as far as Thai food goes. I guess I'm still in mourning for pad Thai they used to make 10 years ago it was simply perfect. All of their food was so wonderful and I loved getting an arrangement and taking our family and friends there on a regular basis. We would order many different dishes and really enjoy everything in front of us. I've gone back a couple times in the last couple years and all those experiences for mediocre. The service wasn't as good as it used to be, the food is not as good as it used to be and I wish I could turn back time the pad Thai has become much less flavorful, and less ingredients. They used to include a full range of meats and tofu, as well as excellent noodles and seasoning. Now you choose one meat, and would need to pay to adjust it back to what it was. When I gave it a second try recently, in case my previous visit was a one off, it was even more noticeable. Service was slow, not as friendly and food was no better. Honestly, if it's a cost cutting measure, I'm happy to pay more to get the old food a service back. However, now I live a couple hours away and have found other replacements so doubt I'll be back. read more

We came for my mom's birthday with the family. This has been a go to spot for us over the years. We ordered the whole cat fish, pad Thai, yellow curry, fried rice, pad see ew and mango sticky rice for dessert. Our family favorite was the cat fish and yellow curry. The fish was very crispy and cooked well! The yellow curry had great flavor. The noodle dishes were both great. Ask for some chili sauce and add it onto the food and it'll just amp the flavor. Then ended with mango sticky rice! The mangoes were so sweet and tasty! Can't go wrong with that to end the meal! The restaurant had lots of seating and easy parking. This has always been my to go to Thai restaurant, but today I am extremely disappointed. After seeking asylum from one disappointing Thai restaurant, we saw this as a refugee. We ordered pad, Thai beef and sizzling beef. Both served hot as expected. What caused the crisis in my relationship was the quality of the food . One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Pasadena! Best salad/spring rolls hands down. Pillowy, fresh, and delicious sauce. The menu is unique and has items you can't always find at other Thai spots- like beef satay -yum. Good quality food. My only qualm is that ordering takeout is difficult- you can't use postmates only DoorDash- sometimes it's closed and once I ordered and I never received my order because of some glitch. They also sometimes have items I typically order missing from the DoorDash menu and so I had to call to have them add it before proceeding to order. Dined in yesterday for the first time in a long time and was surprised to hear they close at 8!!! It was also pretty quiet which was surprising because they said they were squeezing our party in. Good food, bad service. To be clear, we sat down at 7 pm, the restaurant closes at 8pm. You could feel the servers hovering, just waiting to see a cleared plate so they could whisk it away. Sounds good right? Well, they just wanted us out and get the place closed for the night. A server came over with the bill even though we weren't done ordering, he asked us to pay our bill because they were closing in 15 minutes. At 8pm, 3 servers stood against the wall staring at the 3 tables. When no one was leaving, one of them went over to the wall and flashed the lights on and off. These people are just rude and do not care about their customers. I understand wanting to close but there's a more polite way to do it. We won't be back ever and we used to visit this place all the time. Saladang used to be hopping with people. Now it's a ghost of itself and probably because of the lousy service. read more

We come here for lunch on weekdays & all the servers are so nice! However, we ran into a real bad server named Amy who only works on Sundays. The server Amy is so arrogant! She didn't even greet us when we came in the door & made us wait a long time to get served. I actually had to call her to please take our orders as we have been waiting a while. I've been here several times in the past (more than 10 years ago) and after passing by the neighborhood recently, I saw that they were still open and decided to come in for dinner. I visited on a Saturday evening for an early dinner. Upon entering, there was no host to greet/seat us, so we awkwardly waited a few moments for someone to show up until we decided to seat ourselves- no big deal, but definitely weird considering there is a sign that says PLEASE WAIT TO BE SEATED and yet there is nobody there to do just that. There were only 3 other tables with guests so one might say that the place was definitely "slow" upon our arrival. After seating ourselves we waited several minutes until somebody decided to bring us menus. Again the place was definitely slow, you might even say "dead" considering the location, time (weekend dinner) and reputation of this restaurant- why it took several minutes for us to be greeted with menus is beyond me. We ordered the fried calimari and dumplings for appetizers. They came out rather quickly which was nice to see that at least the kitchen was punctual. The calimari was generous in portion size and breaded perfectly. The dumplings came with a green sauce and a red sauce- the entire dish was good, nothing special. After waiting ridiculously long again for our waiter to come back and take away our appetizers and take our orders, I already had enough of this place. I could see clearly now that service here has gone down the dumps. Finally, my GF had to call the attention of someone else (not our first waiter) since our waiter completely disappeared. We ordered the gai yang chicken and lemon pepper salmon. The gai yang was basically rotisserie chicken- never had it like this before. Every other Thai place serves this either as BBQ or grilled. This dish definitely looked like rotisserie chicken. 6/10. The lemon pepper salmon was good enough, not dry, and not overly seasoned either, 8/10. Since the gai yang did not come with rice, we asked the lady for two bowls of rice and she seemed pretty annoyed by our request- keeping consistent with the terrible service. The entire time we were eating, nobody ever came to refill our water or check in on us. The food here is average at best, there's so many other good Thai restaurants literally everywhere in SoCal, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as it currently stands. I was so disappointed to see that this place has gone to trash. Two stars since the ambiance is nice enough and parking is easy and the food wasn't terrible. My friends live in the neighborhood. I told them I take them anywhere they wanted for dinner and said they'd always wanted to try Saladang so off we went. It would be easy to miss. It seems like it's an office complex but there it is. Let your GPS tell you and it will suddenly appear. Parking is plentiful and easy. I just love the feel of Saladang. They've done a terrific job of converting a space that could just as easily be filled with cubicles or boxes into a very nice place to enjoy a good meal. There was ample seating and it wasn't too loud. I'd highly recommend it if you want to have a nice conversation with some friends over dinner. I had the Saladang iced tea. Loved it. Get it. It's an original and it's delightful. All the dishes we ordered were a tasty delight and the portions were generous. See my pics. You can't go wrong with anything you order there. Then the service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. Got us seated right away upon our arrival even though we had a large group. The menu is very typical Thai food items. My wife and I got a Pad Thai and a satay skewer. The flavors were very authentic but the chicken was bit dry and over cooked. But the pad Thai noodle was very chewy and the taste was delicious. Prices are reasonable but not cheapest among Thai food. They are similar to President Thai. Since we were with friends, no pictures of the food were taken. Only got some signs and decor photos. I was soooo looking forward to eating here. I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. So, when a friend called and invited me to lunch here, I was actually excited. I walked in around 1PM on a Monday, was greeted with a smile and was able to be seated by a window right away. It's a cute place that felt big, with a lot of natural light. I was handed a drink menu, a regular menu and a lunch menu. Those menus were FILTHY!!! I wiped them down with my hand sanitizer wipes and wondered if they EVER get wiped down. Anyway, we ordered off of their lunch menu, which is pretty reasonably priced for the area. My friend has zero tolerance for anything spicy. Even the slightest bit of spice actually makes her ill. So, when she ordered the yellow curry, she asked if it could be prepared without any heat or spice at all. The woman taking her order assured her that it could be made non-spicy, so she went for it. I ordered beef Pad Thai and it arrived about five minutes (maybe a little more) before her curry was brought to her. She took one bite and realized that, although not REAL spicy, there was actually some heat to the dish. Um, it was supposed to not be spicy AT ALL!!! When we told the woman who took her order that it actually WAS spicy, she replied that it was as mild as it comes. Ma'am, she asked for NO spiciness - no heat. Not mildly spicy (because that's as mild as it gets). So, they swapped that dish out with vegetable Pad Thai. I'm STARVING at this point because I'd not had breakfast - and we now have to wait an ADDITIONAL darned 10 minutes for her second choice to be delivered to our table. Overall, for both of us, the Pad Thai was underwhelming. For me, it was way too sweet. Actually, the entire experience was underwhelming. Lunch was on her, and she left about a 10% tip. And that's GENEROUS for the experience we had. She, well WE, were just not happy with the food, nor the service. I intend to give them another try. I've been Saladang customers for years, and It's been 2 years since I visited last time. So surprised by the quality of food that was served, and the quality of service we received. The beef was so dry, with overuse of salt and sugar, stale veggies, over-fried tofu, lack of balance in taste... still so stunned that I spent so much money for a meal with quality that's wayyyyy worst than Trader Joe's frozen section food. Waiters who helped our table seemed so unhappy, and unprofessional. We had a party of 13 people (6 adults and 7 kids), and we were charged 20% for tips with service that's worst than anything. We are a group of easygoing people, and we were so disappointed with our experience at Saladang today. I am hoping the management really looks into improving food quality and service quality. Saladang is a staple Thai restaurant in Pasadena that I honestly wouldn't visit for the food, so much as I would for the atmosphere. Their indoor dining is nice, with tables at sufficient distance from each other, proper table cloths, and sufficient wait staff. Their courtyard also offers adequate Al fresco dining options. Saladang menu seems more fusion, with some Chinese and other options available as well. Their alcohol options are not limited to imports, but they also have red/white wine and rice wine (sake).
