I love this place and this location. Super close to my house, very easy and convenient for me to swing by before trekking off to work. I LOVE Salad and Go. I ask my car and it directed me to the nearest one while I was in the Central Phoenix area. Their salads are reasonable, FAST, fresh, and made to order. I always request extra dressing and they don't charge for it. I don't even have to get out of my car and wait, they are super fast! This review is entirely because of the apathy of the staff on January 24th, 2021. We arrived to get our usual breakfast burritos to find a transient, filthy from head to foot, sleeping passed-out-cold, within feet of the food service window. When I questioned the staff asking if they knew he was there, they indicated "He's been there all morning." I told them that transients are known vectors for several contagious diseases and should not be allowed to camp where they could contaminate the area around a food service establishment's service window. The staff was completely uncaring and unresponsive to my prompt. I ordered and walked up to the window and waited more than 10mins, I even rang the door bell, no answer. The drive thru line was pretty long but the line cleared out before I got my order (that should have been ready for pick up). I ended up being late for work. I put for my order to be ready at 8:55am. Another lady walked up said her order was supposed to be ready by 8:45am and was still waiting longer than me. The drive thru concept for a salad place is absolutely genius. I am in and out of there in less than 5 minutes when there are a handful of cars in front. They are super efficient in getting you your order after you've placed it. I think it's awesome they dont hand out utensils or bags unless you need them (do we even really need them, if going back to the office or taking your food home?) I've had the chicken pot pie and the three bean vegetable chili and both are very satisfying and big portions. They are definitely bowl sized and not cup sized portions. As far as the salads go, I've had the Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Bacon (seasonal) and the Roasted Sweet Potato & Strawberry - again both very satisfying. And for only $5.75?! I've been a loyal customer of Salad and Go since they opened. Today, I walked up to their window and was ignored. This of course, was because they had installed a new sign overhead touting their fancy new kiosks! Order for yourself, just like the grocery store checkouts we all know and love! Hooray! I can deal with it. I'm a loner. I LIKE putting in my own order. So I did. Then it beeped cheerfully at me and told me to swipe my card. Swipe my card. Yeah. So here's the thing: I don't use credit cards to buy fast food and I don't use my debit card for anything anymore. I'm swimming against the tide, but identity theft is real, and I'm trying to minimize my exposure. But so what? Cash is king, it's legal tender. Get over it. I looked around wanly. There was a doorbell underneath a handicap access sign. Ring if you're handicapped and can't use our kiosks? I suppose not wanting to use a card is looked at as some kind of crippling disease in this day and age, but I do NOT care. I rang the freaking bell. The window opened swiftly to an annoyed looking young woman who, when I inquired about paying cash informed me that I would need to (essentially, though I want to be clear I am paraphrasing here) 'eff right off, get back in my car and get in the drive-through line that was already extending into the street if I wanted to pay cash, because I won't take your cash at this window anymore that we've been taking your cash at for like, ever since we opened.' Again, I'm paraphrasing. When I incredulously informed her that this would mean they would be losing my business altogether, she shrugged. So I effed right off and went to Subway, where they gladly took my cash when I walked up to *their* counter. Though admittedly, their Spicy Italian is not nearly as satisfying as Salad and Go's Sante Fe. I miss it already. I see Salad and Go is big on getting their price down. Is this how you do it Salad and Go? Tell your cash-paying get-out-of-the-car-loving walk-up customers to find another restaurant? I'm not certain this is a good strategy. I have been saying for years that there should be a salad drive-thru and my dream has come true :) I just happened upon this place when I was in downtown Phoenix and needed something healthy to eat. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this place. Drive thru was not long at all which was surprising since you can custom order your salad. Staff was friendly and helpful with the menu options. Oh, and there's nutrition info for everything - even the specials, dressings, So now I have my yummy fresh salad, but how good is it... SUPER GOOD! I ordered the butternut squash and quinoa salad with chicken and didn't even need the dressing! But I had to try the dressing. The salad came with a champagne vinaigrette that was so light and delicious. This is my new place to go and will make eating out a lot easier.
