Cafe Zupa has a large selection of fresh salads and soups. They are very creative and I always find different unique and delicious choices. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and most of all, helpful. The shop is clean and comfortable with booths along side of windows to watch the Phoenix weather. When I was there, it rained then hailed. Something unusual for Phoenix. Definitely Zupa is worth a try. read more

I hate to say it, but Cafe Zupas may have finally lost me as a Customer. Despite my last visit being lackluster, I decided to give it another go. Cafe Zupas replied to my previous review citing they hoped they could serve me again. This is likely the last time. I placed an order in their mobile app. When I arrived, not only was the order not ready, but they couldn't be bothered to complete it, so I had to get my own drink. This may not be a big deal for most people, but it is for handicapped persons who use a cane and have only one free hand. I was curious to try two particular menu items ... the limited availability of Strawberries & Cream as well the Chickpea & Vegetable Soup. The desert was lackluster, tasting only like milk poured over strawberries. The least they could do was to remove the green stems from the strawberries. I had to remove some and spit out some others. The Chickpea & Vegetable Soup was about worst thing I've ever had. The app displayed a photo which looked like it had an orange colored broth, making me think it was tomato based. What I received was a cup of broccoli with warm water. This was NOT soup, tomato based or otherwise. Soups are commonly simmered for a period of time. This seemed like warm water was heated for a few seconds in a microwave, then poured over some broccoli. Further, other vegetables were no where to be found. To say it was disappointing would be putting it mildly. I can't imagine how Cafe Zupas would consider serving this to Customers or be proud of this offering. When Cafe Zupas first entered the Phoenix market, the offerings were plentiful, tasty and reasonably priced. Went here to try the Dubai shake after hearing about this Dubai chocolate phenomenon I keep seeing. I could see they had cups of strawberries ready. This dish is expensive, $13 for the mini & $19 for the large. The mini was still a good size & From what I understand though, the ingredients aren't cheap. I will say it was delicious, so I'd gladly get the mini again! (Though I'm not sure the worker that made it really cared for the presentation, it def wasn't made with love lol). The low stars comes from the state of the establishment. I couldn't find napkins anywhere. I finally asked the man manning the floor. He was friendly and tending to some maintenance I can't remember. When I found the napkins, I was disturbed by the upkeep of what stood before me. The fountain drinks machine flooded, the floor with soils, trash all over, just poor maintenance of the area. A total opposite from the Gilbert location I was at a couple nights prior. It wasn't even busy, only a couple of tables sat & a couple of people in line. I think I'll avoid this location. read more

This is a solid lunch spot! I placed an order online for the Mediterranean bowl and the chocolate mousse cake. The entrees always come with a roll and a chocolate dipped strawberry which I love! The bowl had a good variety of flavors and was reasonably priced. I just had to wait a few minutes for my order to be ready. I'm honestly so disappointed at giving this review because the first time I tried this place - I loved it. Now? The service has gone down along with the food. The workers are rude as fuck and when trying a soup sample they give you warm broth/water. Please tell me how I'm going to try the soup flavor with no chickpeas or anything in it?? Is the soup just plain broth. The stingiest warm broth sample given then argued about the soup. I'm not coming back. Why am I giving my $$ to get insulted by the workers and subpar food that coworkers make shitty because their other coworker didn't like the customer. Went to the Zupas on McDowell in Avondale, Arizona today for lunch. I couldn't believe it - right while I'm standing in line, waiting for my food, the lady who was making my sandwich sneezed all over it! Then she wrapped it all up and gave it to me! I just stared at her, open-mouthed. I asked her to please make me a new one, since she had just sneezed all over mine! She just looked at me and shrugged and made me a new one. Didn't change her gloves or anything after she had wiped at her nose with a gloved hand. I was so astonished, I ended up taking the new sandwich. Now I'm wishing that I hadn't since I am too grossed out to eat it. I should have just gone somewhere else for lunch, but I was short on time. I'm new to the state and have never heard of "Zupas" that keeps getting recommended to me. I've only really heard of Boudin and Panera Bread so I just thought it was just similar to those type of chains. I was completely wrong! The quality here is 10x better than what you would get at Panera and Boudin, and quite honestly, their combo pricing is great and (in my opinion) enough to share in terms of portion size. For ~$18, you get a full sandwich, soup, baguette AND chocolate strawberries (which I love because it's definitely a healthier choice than a cookie; and not your typical boring apple slices). I highly recommend the lobster bisque or any of their cream-based soups, as well as their brisket grilled cheese sandwich! Would love to try all the other soups on their menu. :) read more

I've been here a few times and the food is pretty good. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience is not good. First, the ordering process is pretty confusing. Between the salads and bowls and soup, everyone seems to take orders in different places, and there are a bunch of people running around behind the counter. No one seems to know whose food belongs to who. Last visit there, we stood at the register for five minutes with all of our hot food just waiting on someone to check us out and finish giving us the little items like a bread loaf that came with our meal. The main reason for the low score here is that this place is a mess. Tables don't get cleaned up, there's trash everywhere, the condiment area is a disaster, and the beverages always seem to be empty. It's just dirty overall and messy. I just came for the chocolate covered strawberries, so this review is not fully accurate of their entire menu and customer experience! The strawberries were very juicy and perfectly ripe, and the chocolate went very well with it at expected. The girl taking our order was SO nice and was very happy to help us. The crazy thing was just that this one cup of strawberries was $15 before tip!!! I have a hard time recommending it because it is such a high price for such a simple cup. Wow! 3rd time coming here, and I can't get sick of it! The power bowl is probably one of the best bowls to exist! It has a mix of everything you could want in a bowl and more! The taste is delectable. When I found out I was coming here, i started daydreaming about the power bowl. Though, the power could be even better if there was a bit more protein in it. The amount of chicken was a little less than I would hope, so adding a bit more chicken to the portion would maximize its greatness! Tasty, colorful food with seemingly fresh ingredients. The bread was my favorite part. I had a Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich on a ciabatta roll. Each meal also comes with another bread roll on the side and a chocolate dipped strawberry (which is a nice surprise!). The TBA had good texture and tasted pretty good. My only critique of the sandwich was the avocado was a little rubbery. The bread roll was yummy. The strawberry was huge! I was skeptical that it was going to be a good strawberry considering it's late August but it was amazing!! My fiance got the bbq chicken salad with extra chicken and enjoyed it. The reason I knocked this place down a star was because the decor was soooo outdated. They wouldn't have to do much to bring this place up to a modern look. However, they still have an "iPod bar" in the center of the restaurant which is just so odd. Who owns an iPod anymore? What a disappointment! I would've given it negative stars if possible. The only redeeming quality is the Wisconsin cauliflower soup, which is absolutely amazing! Now for the bad. The service was slow and all the kids working in there couldn't speak up or communicate. They were out of tomatoes. The place was an absolute wreck. Every table and surface in the place was filthy and hadn't been wiped down, and trash, boxes, dirty laundry bins and dust covering every surface. I went to the location on McDowell in Avondale. It was a terrible experience. I wanted soup and they served it cold and in a dirty bowl. Took it back up to the counter and asked for someone to give me hot soup in a clean bowl. Secondly, the drink station looked as if it had not been cleaned for a week. Third, having to step over soo much food just to go sit at a table. Fouth, all tables were dirty, so I went to the counter and asked for clean towels and sanitized water. You would think that would give them the biggest hint that the dining room needs to be picked up, but nope! I WAS GIVEN THOSE ITEMS AND THE WORKER WALKED AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Fifth...Just for curiosity, went to the restroom need I say anything more? Left with a refund and will NEVER come back!! Oh, wait let's not forget the fruit flys that we're in abundance. That signals to me that the fruit they are serving up, have NOT been cleaned properly. Fruit flies lay their eggs on fruit and you need to wash the strawberries in a vinegar bath to kill the eggs as well as any invisible small worms that may nest. THIS PLACE IS A HEALTH HAZARD!!! We have driven by this place for two years now and finally made it a point to stop in. I was craving salad and they have quite a few creations - download their app before you go to get a really good description of what is in each as the menu board in the store really doesn't give you the details. I didn't realize all three of us ordered the Cobb salad as part of the 'pick two' offering. Daughter opted for the haM sandwich, hubs had the lobster bisque and I had the tomato soup. All fantastic. I can definitely see this as being on our winter rotation for soup- they had TEN different choices. Everything was delish. I do have to mention that it's been a long time since I've walked into a restaurant and the staff were actually smiling and friendly- so huge thanks for that! I have long been a fan of the food at Cafe Zupas, however I do get frustrated with the way the line is set up. I typically like to get their soup and sandwich combo, however, once the soup stays uncovered while you are in line, it is lukewarm at best by the time you sit down at a table. I've decided it is better to order everything as takeout. That way, the soup is covered all the way through the line and you can pop it into the microwave at home if needed. Live and learn! That said, the quality of food at Cafe Zupas is very good. One thing I also need to remember is to ask them to leave the bacon off of the grilled avocado crab sandwich, since I don't eat bacon. Oh goodness, where to begin... First off, I used to love Zupas. Their chicken enchilada soup, ultimate grilled cheese, and salads were my go-to. Recently, I've noticed a decline in their salad serving sizes. It's crazy that a full salad now fits into the three-compartment to-go container they use for a half salad. There's no difference! Tonight's adventure... I was thrilled when a Zupas location opened near the Surprise Civic Center, complete with a drive-thru. My first order was placed online for drive-thru pickup. I ended up waiting over 20 minutes at the drive-thru window (my bad for waiting so long). Finally, an employee noticed me - yay! Not a great first impression, but tonight's experience involved using their touch screen through the drive-thru. Now that I think about it - GROSS! Anyway, I placed my order. There was no payment option at the touch screen, and as soon as you open your app account, the screen refreshes, so no points for my purchase on my account. I drove up to the drive-thru window. AGAIN, no one was there. Okay, maybe they come to the parking spot to collect payment? I parked and went inside to pay because, let's face it, NO ONE was moving very fast inside. I paid for my order, mentioned that I was parked in Spot 3, and pointed out that there was no one at the window to take my payment. Payment was made, my order confirmed, I got my drink and went back to my car. Another 20 minutes went by, and the person who arrived at the drive-thru two cars behind me was sitting in Spot 2, and her order was brought out to her. Hmm... I went back inside, where the employees appeared to be sleepwalking with no clue what I was looking for. One touched a bag sitting on the pickup shelf, and I said that best not be mine. It was the same bag I saw earlier when I went inside the first time. Then the excuses started: "Well, we were busy, your order is getting finished up now," and a "sorry." Folks, nothing irritates me more than incompetence and excuses. Finally, my order was handed to me. I was still hearing "sorry" but no effort to actually perform guest relations. As I drove home, I called the location and asked to speak to the manager. Let the excuses begin again: busy, sometimes waiting on a product, I did not see this happen, yadda yadda. Oh, and "sorry." GUESS WHAT?! I got home to find that they duplicated my order, and not in a way to make up for their lack of speed or incompetence, but in a way that shows they have ZERO quality/quantity control measures in place. My order took twice as long because of their deficiencies and not because they were "busy" or had to wait for a product. So, jokes on you, Cafe Zupas. I ordered 2 large salads, no meal which means no drink and no soup. The cost was $25. The salads were probably 12 ounces, again just the salad for $12.50 each. They came with a roll, without being asked. I nearly had them remake the salad without contact with the roll because we have celiac. The salads consisted of subpar shredded lettuce that you would probably find on a sub sandwich but does not make for a solid salad. I am so disappointed in this "salad place" that I will not be returning to any Zupa's for any reason. I have to admit, we use Cafe Zupas catering for our large group meetings. We've been using them for awhile and we've had a few almost misses that have had us start questioning whether we want to continue. My experience today was absolutely amazing! The catering manager Craig has made good effort to resolve some of our previous issues. I decided to reach out to Craig directly because this time, we really needed it to go well. I got the order in late but it was still a day ahead of time. I wasn't sure what time they opened and just didn't want it to be received too late as we were hoping for a 10:45 am delivery. Craig was out of office but he kindly provided information of who to contact in his absence (thank you for that). So, I reached out to Caitlin. Not only did Caitlin respond but Craig, out of the office also responded. The delivery was flawless. The courier was attentive and noticed he was being directed to Tempe when the order was for Phoenix (we're right on the border), that was critical thinking at its finest! To notice something was off and to call to verify deserves being commended these days. He was professional and kind over the phone. Even upon bringing the items in, he was directed to leave them to the side and again, he made sure he didn't just leave them without letting me know and good job because our team did not notify me. I will certainly be using Cafe Zupas catering in the future. I am so ecstatic that upon addressing prior challenges and being weary they've managed to keep us on board. I've told my coworkers who have subsided in ordering that the experience was great. I imagine they too will resume catering with Cafe Zupas. Commendable job team! read more

The food was such poor quality today. The rice in the Mediterranean bowel was undercooked and very crunchy, chicken was old probably sat under a heater for hours. We also got a half soup/sandwich. The sandwich had the tiniest amount of turkey with half a slice of soggy bacon. It was basically just mayo & avocado. The potato soup had no potatoes in it, it was just cream and chopped up green chilis. The only positive aspect was the staff was nice and our online order was processed quickly. I've had one prior bad experience here with an assistant manager that accused us of using counterfeit money. Even after pulling out a card to pay for the meal we were treated poorly. The bill was from the 1990s not counterfeit. We had no issue paying with our card instead but afterwards the assistant manager was extremely disrespectful. Even said we were only upset because we had to pay for our meals. No... we were upset with the disrespectful attitude and poor customer service. I just wanted the soup... but feel off passing in front other line. Young man behind the counter was quite nice. I just ordered a large chicken noodle. Again... not sure how it works.. saw my bowl of soup ladled and sitting on the counter. Behind several other sandwich soup orders. May I suggest the soup isn't out in the bowl until ready to take away. Was quite surprised to receive a roll and a chocolate covered strawberry with it. Very nice touch. Young lady that was the cashier was very nice as well. I got my soup and sat in the back. Soup was just luke warm at this point. But tasty. One big complaint.. the dirty trays and dishes were just piled in the tray return area. Awful to look at that. I think it could be a good place... but it needs a lot of help. It was semi busy, and I feel they need a heavy extra amount of staff. It appeared they were flying through the walk in orders, so they shouldn't offer pick up if they mainly attend to walk ins. We like Zupas and grab food every few weeks, the food is good and employees are always friendly. However, they don't seem to care about keeping the place clean, even when slow and tons of employees hanging around. The last two visits have been disgusting. We went yesterday at 4:30 pm, so well after a lunch rush and before a dinner rush. There were only 2 other parties dining in. Every table was dirty, except one which the table top spun around, so a broken table. We opted to accept the broken table as it was clean. And we didn't want to share a table with food scraps and trash. It's not hard to regularly wipe down tables. The drink station was a mess and the trash overflowing. It was a disgusting experience. Waited in line for 30 plus mins - which was fine, I get that they're busy. I was just really excited for my food. I clarified to the staff two times that I would like the sandwich hot with lettuce and no tomato. They confirmed both times. I also ordered a soup with this. I get to work and begin opening the food and realize that I have a completely different soup AND sandwich than what I ordered and paid for. Very frustrating when you're trying to stay under a certain calorie threshold and can't even eat your lunch due to the staff not paying attention.
