The Sakura special, it looks like it's really flavorful, the color is great, meat and shrimp perfect, but the SAUCE, GROSS. Flavorless.

Terrible bowl, looked like it would taste good but literally tasted like nothing. Waste of money.

Sakura Bowl is my favorite Asian cuisine here!! I've lived in Chicago for 5 years and I still just love this place so much!! We would always just eat the sushi since it was so yummy and I always get the mushroom and onion soup. I love the soup soooo much it might be an addiction haha. I think we stopped here 3-4 times this week just because I wanted the soup so bad A lot of restaurants don't serve it and I'm so glad to see it here! The place I normally go to for it is in Fort Wayne so I haven't had it in a while. Yesterday I got to try the custom bowl bar for the first time and I am so angry with myself that I didn't try it sooner! (If you had Flat Top Grill before, it is the same setup as that) It was so delicious and such a great deal. The bowls being $12.99 for lunch and 14.99 for dinner plus soup and salad? Amazing! I was so happy that they had some fried tofu bits since I love fried tofu and their options in general are super nice! I will say that the beef is a must have, as the way they cooked it on the grill was so it had a small char on the sides so it tasted soooo good and not rubbery. I did make the mistake of using 2 bowls of sauce when I had udon as my carbs... since the udon sucks up all of it and becomes a flavor overload! I do recommend using more sauce if you have rice as your main carb though :) P.S. If you get sushi, the Godzilla roll is sooo good! My boyfriend orders it every time we come here haha.

The food was decent. I think they dye their tuna. The rice is too compact which means they add more sugar and liquids to it. I believe it is fresh however. I was the only one in the restaurant at 2:30pm which may not be unusual for that time.

Highly raved about for a reason! Being from this area, consistent and quality Asian restaurants are hard to come by. Usually when you pay a cheaper price, you sacrifice flavor and quality; not with Sakura Bowl. At Sakura Bowl, their fan favorite item is the custom bowl, where you can add as much vegetables, meats, sauces, and seasonings as you'd like. This is only $12.99 during lunch time and $14.99 at dinner time. One of the best things about the custom bowl, is you can add as much meat as you want without the extra up charge and there is no limit on how many different meats you can mix together. I highly recommend this dish because you can truly satisfy everyone in your party whether they're a picky eater or they love tons of variety! Their quick, prompt, and polite service added to the experience. Fast paced restaurants usually lack in this area, but not Sakura Bowl. Just within my time there, there were multiple servers greeting their regulars by name. Our server was incredibly kind and was very fast in taking our orders and having our food on the table. The ambiance of Sakura Bowl is modern and tasteful, without it being too loud or tacky. It's a nice, open environment and music that isn't too loud or overbearing. Sakura Bowl is a great spot in Highland. I would definitely add this to your regular rotation of restaurants to keep coming back to! I'll definitely be coming back soon!

The old Lincoln Sandwich Shop has been transformed into a dark room with interesting Asian accents. The overall effect is pleasant . We each had 2 drinks and 4 sushi dishes. Our bill totaled $44 - pretty reasonable. Between street and lot in the back, parking was decent I would have liked to try the bowls. Apparently, you choose your meat and vegetables to be sautéed. Next time... The only problem was our server - she didn't understand or speak much English, so it was difficult to communicate. She didn't understand our questions, and we didn't understand her answers. Since we were new to sushi, there were many questions. Fortunately, there were letters & numbers for most dishes, so pointing worked - sort of. The only disappointment was the salmon - it was room temperature and should have been served cold. Oddly, our check came with fortune cookies. A Chinese tradition in a Japanese restaurant? We'll return.

Consistency is key here!!! I live close and order from Sakura a few times a month. I have only had good experiences here. This last time I ordered the Mongolian Beef Dinner (came with salad and soup) and the Sweet Potato Roll. We also got the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner and the pork gyoza. The Mongolian beef has mushrooms and green peppers with a wonderful sauce and noodles. The noodles are a star of this dish. The sweet potato roll was so tasty and looked and smelled amazing. The teriyaki chicken is my sons favorite. The chicken is great and flavorful. The pork gyoza also are wonderful as always. Crispy and fresh. The service and prices here are just awesome. Keep up the great work!!!

Found this little spot on Yelp abs decided to give it a try. Ordered the Custom Bowl where you pick your own protein(s) and veggies from a bar. You can get as much of whatever you want so long as it fits into the provided bowl. You decide whether you want rice or noodles. They provide variations of both. Also there are several sauce options. Also had the calamari rings and crab Rangoon as appetizers. Both were very good. The bowls came with soup and salad. The waiter forgot our salads, but provided them as carry outs. The portions were enormous. The best part...2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 non/alcoholic drinks for $70. -- at Sakura Bowl.

an amazing soup and salad complemented a very interesting seafood dish. Sakura Bowl is a very classy venue. It has a cool, modern look to it. They also had very kind service.

Amazing food I always leave happy and full:) Wonderful service too I love it there! Very welcoming

High-quality sushi in generous portions with lovely presentation. (I ate some prior to the photo!)

I stopped into Sakura to indulge in sushi one last time as I drove from CT to northern MN, where there isn't much sushi. The sushi was high-quality, and I didn't regret my decision. I was surprised that the restaurant used plastic plates, spoons, and soy sauce bowls...until I became surrounded by families with small children. I was alone so that was fine, but if I'd been on a date it would've been annoying.

Crab Rangoon & Salmon Roll, Tuna Roll, Volcano Roll, and the Tokyo rolls!

My favorite non-sushi entree to order there is the Red Snapper Tempura ($14.95). It comes with miso soup, tempura veggies, rice, and dipping sauce. The fry is always light and crispy and well seasoned. The salmon tataki ($7.95) is also well dressed and seasoned. I appreciate that thy have amaebi ($3.50), since it's a bit hard to find out here. I don't care for the smoked salmon that they use for their Philadelphia rolls, so that's been moved out of rotation. But, rolls I do like from here are the Alaska Beauty Roll ($10.95), the Fantasy Salmon Tempura roll ($7.95), and the Dynamite Roll ($9.95). My one complaint is the service time. Each time I order, the dash time gets pushed back again and again, and I've even had dashers quit the order. Last time the restaurant called me and was super apologetic, and I like that they're busy. I just wish it wasn't a consistant issue.

It serves standard American Chinese food--as basic as it gets--and while the Chinese dishes are okay (not great, but not terrible), I would strongly recommend avoiding the Thai options. This was my 2nd time actually dining here - but thought I needed to review. Upon ordering, it said my order would be ready in 20-30 minutes. I got there in about 30 minutes. I did have to wait a bit as there appeared to be one person working and she had a table she was also serving at the same time. I ordered the Basil Chicken w/brown rice & Kung Pao Pork w/white rice. I also ordered the Edamame. The one Basil Chicken order was a dinner and included an egg roll and salad. The Edamame was fine. Not super HOT, but I also waited a bit and it took me about 12 min to drive home. But they were just fine. The Kung Pao Pork was not as spicy as I thought it would be. But there were TONS of vegetables in it. The taste wasn't super powerful, so it was just okay. The Basil Chicken was good and also contained a ton of vegetables, which I liked. Peppers, corn, zucchini, onions, string peas and mushrooms. I may have missed a veggie, but there are quite a few varieties. The Chicken was good...again not the most powerful taste, but it was fine. The salad was warm and I couldn't eat it. I would have prepared the salad be in a separate bag so it stayed crisp and chilled, if it was supposed to be. The egg roll was mostly breading and hard to actually chew. Not my favorite. But to be honest, I'm not a fan of egg rolls. They threw some sauces in the bag, but no chop sticks so you may need to ask if you need those. The only other minor issue was the sauce was already leaking inside the bag from one of the styrofoam containers. The menu is extravagant and filled with half Chinese items and half Japanese items. I will try again and focus more on Japanese items next time.

Unfortunately, what should have been a special family evening turned into a disappointing and unacceptable experience. When my son and his family arrived, they were told they had to remain in the waiting area. He politely asked why they couldn't be seated inside and was told it was because their party exceeded four people. When my husband and I arrived shortly after, I asked the same question and was given the exact same explanation. However, the dining area was nearly empty -- only two couples were seated inside at the time. Shortly afterward, a larger family (five or more people) walked in and was immediately seated indoors. At that point, it was clear that the reasoning given to us was inconsistent. After I addressed the situation, another staff member stepped in, apologized, and attempted to make things right, even offering a complimentary drink. While I acknowledge that effort, the issue was not about a free drink. It was about how my family was treated from the start. The way my son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren were initially handled was unacceptable and left a lasting impression. Good food does not excuse poor or inconsistent treatment. This experience reflects a need for better communication, consistency, and customer service standards. Because of this, I will not be returning. I hope this is taken seriously so that other families do not experience the same treatment.
