I ordered from Sakura Bowl on DoorDash for the first time because my go-to spot wasn't available. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a bunch of different things so we could try a bit of everything, and overall it was really good. I got the sushi boat for two ($62.99), and I was impressed by how much food it was for the price. It's all chef's choice, the rolls we got in our order was a Godzilla roll and a California roll. It also doesn't mention it on DD, but it includes miso soup and salad for two as well, which was a nice bonus. The fish tasted fresh in everything we ordered. We also got more rolls. The super white tuna roll ($6.49) was exactly what you'd expect. The salmon tempura roll ($7.99) wasn't too heavy or oily. The golden pillows appetizer ($6.99) was one of my favorites. It's tofu skin stuffed with rice and and spicy tuna and topped with avocado. It's well balanced and I wish they came in a larger order. You get two pieces. My other favorite was the volcano roll ($15.99) which is fried white fish and cream cheese topped with spicy tuna. I also tried the sweet potato tempura roll ($5.99) which was way too crunchy for my preferences. I would have preferred it to be softer. That said, everything else was delicious, and I'd definitely order again. I'd just skip the sweet potato roll next time. read more

Sakura Bowl is my favorite Asian cuisine here!! I've lived in Chicago for 5 years and I still just love this place so much!! We would always just eat the sushi since it was so yummy and I always get the mushroom and onion soup. I love the soup soooo much it might be an addiction haha. I think we stopped here 3-4 times this week just because I wanted the soup so bad A lot of restaurants don't serve it and I'm so glad to see it here! The place I normally go to for it is in Fort Wayne so I haven't had it in a while. Yesterday I got to try the custom bowl bar for the first time and I am so angry with myself that I didn't try it sooner! (If you had Flat Top Grill before, it is the same setup as that) It was so delicious and such a great deal. The bowls being $12.99 for lunch and 14.99 for dinner plus soup and salad? Amazing! I was so happy that they had some fried tofu bits since I love fried tofu and their options in general are super nice! I will say that the beef is a must have, as the way they cooked it on the grill was so it had a small char on the sides so it tasted soooo good and not rubbery. I did make the mistake of using 2 bowls of sauce when I had udon as my carbs... since the udon sucks up all of it and becomes a flavor overload! I do recommend using more sauce if you have rice as your main carb though :) P.S. If you get sushi, the Godzilla roll is sooo good! My boyfriend orders it every time we come here haha. read more

The old Lincoln Sandwich Shop has been transformed into a dark room with interesting Asian accents. The overall effect is pleasant . We each had 2 drinks and 4 sushi dishes. Our bill totaled $44 - pretty reasonable. Between street and lot in the back, parking was decent I would have liked to try the bowls. Apparently, you choose your meat and vegetables to be sautéed. Next time... The only problem was our server - she didn't understand or speak much English, so it was difficult to communicate. She didn't understand our questions, and we didn't understand her answers. Since we were new to sushi, there were many questions. Fortunately, there were letters & numbers for most dishes, so pointing worked - sort of. The only disappointment was the salmon - it was room temperature and should have been served cold. Consistency is key here!!! I live close and order from Sakura a few times a month. I have only had good experiences here. This last time I ordered the Mongolian Beef Dinner (came with salad and soup) and the Sweet Potato Roll. We also got the Teriyaki Chicken Dinner and the pork gyoza. The Mongolian beef has mushrooms and green peppers with a wonderful sauce and noodles. The noodles are a star of this dish. The sweet potato roll was so tasty and looked and smelled amazing. The teriyaki chicken is my sons favorite. The chicken is great and flavorful. The pork gyoza also are wonderful as always. Crispy and fresh. The service and prices here are just awesome. I was in the area, was in the mood for sushi and this was the first place that came up on google. Walking in the place was super cute, modern looking with dark tables and what appeared to be a buffet style set up along the back wall. What I'm guessing based on the menu is that its a little salad bar type thing where you pick items you want and they grill it up for you in their signature bowl. They're menu is neither limited nor extensive, with a handful of Japanese style entrees and a lot of grill items that include things as off the wall as fajitas. My waitress was super, super nice and I ordered the pork gyoza, a miso soup, the salmon garden appetizer, a spicy scallop handroll, salmon nigiri and white tuna sashimi. I found that although the food was good, it wasn't GREAT. It lacked some flavor and even the soy sauce just kind of tasted off to me. The best thing I had was definitely the salmon garden which is lobster meat wrapped in salmon and seared with a yuzu sauce, but I got it with spicy mayo instead. For all the food I ordered, my bill was only $40 and thats really impressive for a sushi joint. Although I don't have anything bad to say about this place, I probably won't come back or even really recommend it to people only because I feel as though there are better spots for sushi in the area. read more

We have been waIting for this restaurant to open! We went last night to checck it out (Saturday night 6ish). There is no parking in front of the restaurant because it is downtown. The parking lot across the street was completely full. Luckily, they have great signage off of Kennedy Avenue that advertises parking in back. There is also a back entrance so you don't have to park in back and then walk to the front outside. We enjoy crab ragoons, fried calamari, dragon rolls & Godzilla rolls. It was all yummy. My wife loves Sakura Bowl!! The stuff we get never changes and it's good every time we order!! When you open the heavy door to enter the restaurant you will see immediately how spacious the dining room is. It has a lot of color and fun decorations spread all around. They had such nice Christmas decorations a month back. The menu is quite large with a variety of tasty options that I have explored. When it comes to my favorites I have to go with the monkey roll and miso soup, they are a must for me when we get Sakura Bowl. The food itself is pretty consistent when I go in but the service might be hit or miss. They have a lot of people running around but not set in one position, that can be a pro or con. You will have 2-3 different waiters which is the plus because anyone can bring you a refill or have edamame brought to the table haha but the con is you can't effectively follow up with your server during your meal.
