Of the three Wu's houses I've tried, this one might just be my favorite for the old fashioned feel of the restaurant. The hardwood tables and seats were a nice touch, as well as the overall service which was fast and consistent. The food was also pretty good, with the Mongolian Beef being well seasoned and tender as well as both soups being rich in their tastes. The food was on par for what I anticipated. It wasn't a full win but it gets extra points for being just as good left over. I had the hibachi filet and a glass of Josh Cabernet wine. Service was quick and painless. For a smaller restaurant, they do a decent job making it not feel so cramped. I love this restaurant! The Mokena location was my first introduction to Wu's House. We always get seated quickly, even when it's super busy. The staff is usually attentive. I greatly enjoy the edamame they bring to the table. Also, I love the Happy Roll. I get it almost every time I go. Try the Fire Roll for a cool experience, they bring it to you on fire! The ginger salad is phenomenal, but I will caution you, they put a ton of dressing on it (which I LOVE!) The gyoza is an outstanding appetizer, I love the sauce that comes with it. Any meal we get is always delicious and the portion sizes are huge. The orange chicken +fried rice combo is wonderful. The house special fried rice, basil fried rice, and the curry fried rice are AMAZING. My family and I highly recommend this place! We stopped in and Debby (host) was rude and could not answer any questions we had about the menu, even basic stuff like allergens and any special drinks. My husband and I visited this Wu's house a couple of weeks ago and had Maggie as our server. She was lack luster and acted as though she did not want to be there or maybe did not want to serve us. She never filled our water glasses unless we asked and did not come check in on us to see how we were doing while dining. Our experience with her was the same prior to the visit but I did not complain and decided to let that experience go. Only to have her again as a sever and received even worse customer service. If we return to this restaurant, I will certainly ask for anther server. Pls address this concern with her, to change her disposition with your customers because good customer service is important. This place is everything and more. I live in the area and I tried one of their lunch specials to go and the food was fresh, hot and flavorful. You get delectable food at a great price. The lunch specials run about $9.00 dollars each per person. Very modern and upscale on the inside. The Mongolian beef and the sizzling pepper steak were seasoned and tender. This is not a Wu's like the name says, it's a Woow sushi that has the Wu's menu but is not cooked the same. My wife and I have been to the Wu's in Orland, Evergreen Park, and Palos for both the Hibachi where they cook it in front of you, and where we have sat in the dinning room and ordered the Hibachi. The Mokena location offers the hibachi dinners in the dining room, however, despite the menu, it is prepared and tastes nothing like their larger locations. The whole plate was doused in a teriyaki sauce, we told our server we didn't order the teriyaki hibachi, but were told all of their hibachi meals comes cooked in that sauce, despite not saying this on the menu, AND the menu having a special teriyaki hibachi section. The meal wasn't even hot, and we are pretty sure was just microwaved. All the other Wu's would get 5 *'s. Shame on the Mokena location for tricking people into thinking that it's the regular Wu's. We even asked the manager why it tasted and was prepared so differently, and he said they have always done their Hibachi differently, despite it not saying it on the menu, which he acknowledged. read more

This was an unpleasant surprise after making a reservation for 8 people and showing up to a "regular restaurant". They do make Japanese hibachi type meals but it is cooked in the back. The sushi was only ok. The rice on the sushi rolls was crunchy. The portions of the hibachi food are huge and tasted good though. Staff was friendly and attentive. I've always loved this place for their takeout and during the lockdown they have not let us down! Their carry out containers are sturdy, not just to keep our food fresh but hold the presentation the whole way home. My leftover sushi even tasted fresh still the next day. Long time Woow customer which is owned by the same local chain. I believe the Woow location across the street will close. They have a good business with take out and get very busy. Great value and food quality. We have tried take out many times and also eaten in the restaurant. They will take care of any mistakes with great customer service. Very friendly staff that will take care of you! My favorites are the Dragon and Godzilla rolls. I ordered the Godzilla Roll for take out service. The roll is not made with crab but instead a FAKE KRAB stick. The eel is barely noticeable in most of the roll, I could only find a tiny piece in one slice after tearing that slice completely apart. The roll is deep fried but it makes the roll very tough and chewy. The roll was 90% rice, 8% wrapper & batter and maybe 2% actual seafood, which was fake. The avocado was such a tiny piece as well. Over all based on this first time visit I will be reluctant to order again. My total for one roll was $20.11 which is too much for rice and FAKE KRAB. SO DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

Edamame was brought right after the drinks, thank you...perfect. Then we reviewed our quite extensive dinner menu options! I mentioned to my husband I was in the mood for some sashimi tonite, and in the very back he found the sashimi dinner options which we selected from! The one we chose was a Sashimi & Sushi combo. It was a HIT! Also, the Presentation was out of this world as the quality of the fresh fish (which were chef's choice for us that evening) was second to none. Oh, we also had the miso soup and salad with ginger dressing...who does not love homemade Ginger dressing...cannot get the stuff at the grocery store that even comes close. All good. My husband ordered his salad separately for a larger portion and he wished he would have ordered the dressing on the side as the dressing was rather abundant on his salad. Other than that, we loved our dinner and experience there! I especially loved that the chef did such an amazing job on his selection of the cuts of fish for our sashimi order! The customer service is terrible and the food isn't good. My daughter and I went there last week. The waiter was rude as well as the manager. I wanted to sen d my food back because the shrimp were over cooked , the noodles were over cooked and stuck together the chicken was hard . My boyfriend ended up ordering the sizzling pepper steak which was also delicious. If you are use to eating sushi in Chicago I just have to warn you it most likely isn't going to be as good however this place is good especially compared to other sushi spots. My family and I came here about 2 weeks ago for dinner. The most surprising aspects of our first visit to Wu's House, were the humongous portions sizes and the incredible quality of some of their dishes. We definitely ordered way too much, but we were honestly expecting about half as much, based on other hibachi restaurants we've visited. We ended up taking most of our entrees to go. Quantity doesn't always equate to quality, but here it's actually pretty good, not the best, but I don't have the usual complaints (uncleared shrimp for example) I would have at cheaper Asian restaurants. We started with a few sushi rolls. I had the sweet potato, which I absolutely loved. It was still warm, which is how it should be prepared in my opinion. However, some restaurants that offer a sweet potato roll either serve it cold or take so long to bring it out that by the time you get it, it's cold. I also had a spider roll. I really liked it, except that you could really smell the seaweed in it. I'm not sure what causes that as overall the roll seemed pretty fresh and tasted very good. My wife had a California roll which was good. It wasn't exceptional, and it was made with imitation crab meat, but as far as those go, it was good. The other roll my wife had, had way too much going on in terms of flavors and components. I can't remember whether or not it was the volcano roll or a variation of the shrimp tempura roll, but either way it was a lot to handle. I actually liked it, more than my wife did for sure, but there were just too many sauces on top of it already being deep fried and topped with scallions and possibly even caviar? It's one of the rolls from the pictures i attached you my review. My aunt also had a dragon roll, which similar to the California roll, wasn't exceptional but it was good. We honestly would have been good on just the sushi. The main courses were just much too big. That's not a complaint, but just keep that in mind if it's your first time here and you're used to something like Benihana or Kona Grill. I had the lobster tail and scallops and my wife had the shrimp tempura, both pictured. The tempura was really good, although it was closer to that thicker flour based tempura, than the thin fluffy kind. It was still very good though. My lobster was giant, and that might've contributed to why it was more form rather than tender. I That's my preference in general for most meats so I actually appreciated that. The scallops were a little below average. They were too soft and they were the larger kind which I'm not a fan of. They just tasted texturally like they were lower quality. I also didn't like that there was a puddle of either some sort of really watery sauce or juices from the lobster, scallops, and noodles, condensing at the bottom of the plate. It really made parts of the meal inedible to me. The ginger salad was absolutely delicious, albeit over saturated with the dressing/sauce. The miso soup was also very good although I have the similar complaint of the seaweed smelling strongly. On a surprising note, they also served us some honeydew melon for desert. This was complimentary (it's difficult to say the price is in the meal with how cheap everything was) and unexpectedness from what I would consider a mid-quality restaurant line Wu's House. The pricing is one of the biggest surprises. Part of the reason we ordered so much is because we saw the prices and assumed we were going to get much smaller portion sizes. If they cut corners somewhere to make their prices so low, I can't figure out where. Once again, this isn't the best Asian/Asian Fusion food I've ever eaten, but it is much better quality than most places. The service was very good as well. My aunt got there some time before us and had been waiting quite a while for her roll, but other than that we had absolutely no problems. Our waitress was very nice and had a very positive energy about her. I really wish she would've warned us about their portion sizes, but that's not even a complaint. The only other issue that may be a dealbreaker for people is the fact that they're hibachi tables currently closed, which makes sense with the pandemic situation. They also don't take reservations, so it's first come first serve, but it didn't seem like they were anywhere near their current maximum capacity when we went on a Friday night. Overall I definitely recommend Wu's house. It's not perfect, as you can tell from my review, but they do a lot of things very well. There also aren't a ton of other hibachi options in the area, and if you live near this location, it's not worth driving to Lombard or Downtown Chicago over going to this place. I asked my neighbors,on an app called, Nextdoor about a sushi place and Wu's came highly recommended, so we tried it for my Mother's Day meal. My husband went to pick it up, he said everything was a mess, there were 20 people inside waiting for their sushi. When your food is ready they put it in a container and a bag. The ladies who were working were easily confused. The people from the back came to the front to help but they would just put the bag down on a table. People started looking thru the bags and putting their order together, and walking out. My husband got our order. And my family enjoyed our sushi. They need someone who speaks louder and can see that people can get order. My guess is that they did not know they would be so busy. Our sushi was very yummy and might go back again. read more

First time I've been to Wu's House. We went for lunch and had the sushi deluxe platter: 10 pieces of nigiri -- chef's choice -- and a California roll. Restaurant was quiet: we hit the place late lunch time. Service was courteous and fast. I'm used to slow sushi service but not here. The miso soup was good and hot; the ginger salad was up to normal expectations. Then came the sushi. Nice sized nigiri and impeccably fresh. Good sized and fresh California Maki. Tasty and served on a nice platter that made an impressive presentation. The pricing made this platter an outstanding value. It was nothing short of an excellent experience.
