Ordered $50.00+ in carry out. We were told this location was close to our favorite Chinese restaurant which was in Peotone but is now closed. I ordered chop suey with no rice but pan fried noodles instead but we got chow mein not chop suey. The pot stickers were made with the dough way too thick (at least 3 times thicker than it should be) and not fried. No flavor in the egg rolls. Ordered vegetable fried rice with no msg and no green peppers. So the rice had 3 water chestnuts and a couple pieces of onion. I had lunch there yesterday and for the first time the food was not good and the fried rice, hot n sour soup were different than in the past. The entire meal was not tasty at all. I at first thought maybe they had hired a new cook and hesitated to call and complain because of the lady's bad attitude. I did call and what a mistake that was she didn't take it well and said that it was the same cook as always and that nothing was different. I was also over charged. Yes, it is not decorated well. Yes it is the best chinese food I have ever eaten. No it is not more expensive than any other. Each dish has a unique flavor. The Pork/Shrimp egg rolls are amazing, they have a slightly cinnamon-y coriander-y aroma and a deeply porky flavor. I highly suggest the tangerine chicken or beef...NOT ORANGE CHICKEN..TANGERINE CHICKEN...also the kung pau is the best I have ever eaten. The sauce is a deep mahogany sweet/spicy flavor that will just make you swoon. (it has a dominant kecap manis flavor so expect some cane sugar sweetness). My wife gets the general tso's and it is delightfully different than the pedestrian sickly sweet versions I am used to refusing. On Friday and Sat I think, they serve a soup you gotta try. They call it beef veggie, but it is a beefy, red cabbage, sweet/salty concoction that has me scraping up every drop.I tend to time my visits with this soup. I often prefer to eat sit down in their Mokena locations because the staff have been there for at least twenty years. One of the asian waitresses would win a stare down contest with the statue in the lobby. She is not rude, just has the exact same look on her face when I tip 3.50 as when I tip twenty bucks. I love to say bizarre non-sequitur words in front of her and watch her simply wait for me to give her my order.Me: "frog fajitas!!....ahem, I will have the kung pau please". She completely straight faced: "Beef or chicken?" Bonus for this place being willing to give me food five minutes after closing. Oh yeah, the portions really are huge. I actually had Chinese here the day of my job interview. I really liked the food and the decor of the place. The service was good but the place was kind of empty. I would like to go back here soon and try something different. I believe I had my sesame chicken (pretty much my favorite dish) and my boyfriend had broccoli beef or something like that. I am in the south west Chicago area and wanted some Chinese. Well, I saw all the good comments about the Rising Sun. Its a hole in wall place to be sure. Had to really hunt for it because it was dark and snowing. After a 30 minute drive and hunt, I found it next to the Chevy dealership. Its a busy intersection so if you read my review and still want to go there....be patient! When you walk in the place, the you rest assured that they didn't splurge on decor....quite the opposite. They probably went to the city dump and found some siding that they used for their walls. The employees look like something out of a movie. The were rattling back and forth in Korean and all the cooks were dressed white shirts and aprons. They were constantly moving and cooking. Which is odd because I was the only one in the place but I was guessing they were cooking call in orders. I read some reviews on both google earth and yelp that mentioned how much cleaner this place was in comparison to another of their locations. After seeing this place, I have to think how bad must that other place been because I never would have thought clean was an adjective that I have thrown out there so freely when describing this place. I got the Mongolian beef (mild) and some crab Rangoon. The drive back to my hotel room was a little quicker, and when I got back the room, I discovered that this place doesn't give you any plastic to eat with, no plates, and no chop sticks. The food was really hot, and the beef container was good. It has a really sweet flavor but not that many onions. The rice (white) that came with it was cold and old! More old than cold by the way. The crab rangoons had a real odd smell to it. They are really big and they give you a tub of sweet and sour sauce that is really hot but cools quickly into this pudding like Overall, for take out purposes, it was a little too much money and not the stunning quality that I have read here on Yelp. Your experiences might be better. And to close, I opened my fortune cookie and it read, "Something strange is about to happen to you". I've been going to Rising Sun for about 6 years now, I used to always go to the Mokena location when I lived in Orland Park and I've always recommended Rising Sun for good Asian Cuisine. I moved to Frankfort a few years ago, so I started going to the Frankfort location, The food was basically the same exact thing from Mokena, Great food all around. The last 3-4 times I went there though, the old man who worked there was extremely rude to customers in front of me and customers who went before me, he was also extremely rude to me and short with me even though I was nice, he also was just picking up the phone and hanging up on everyone when they called which is CRAZY to do and I'm sure if the owner seen that he would probably be fired for it as they are losing business this way. Aside from this, the food has gone downhill lately and is EXTREMELY expensive, I don't mind as much about the food being more expensive (Even though $30+ for crab rangoon, orange chicken, and egg rolls is a bit high in my opinion) If the food is good I DONT CARE ABOUT IT BEING A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE THOUGH. But that's the thing, the crab rangoons are usually cold the past few times, the orange chicken had a TON of breading as opposed to how it used to be and also not as much inside of the tin as a whole, and the eggrolls (the eggrolls used to be the best thing) they have tasted like they were fried twice and leaking with oil. It just hasn't been the same, this used to be a 5 star review for this place all day long, but coming from a customer of 6+ years who loves your food, I won't be coming back for a long while due to these issues. read more
