Checked out this classic place in Tinley Park for Chinese. Dragon Palace is a long time favorite for locals. It isn't like the average strip mall restaurant. Has booze. There's also the regular noodle or rice items that everyone is familiar with to be honest. Basic looking from the outside without anything special just being basic. It's better inside with the classic atmosphere and looks. The prices are higher than these used to be though. A lot of the classics. It's about $11 for an entree. We got the General Tso's Tofu. It's the firm kind that's like crusty scrambled eggs. This is pretty light on the vegetables with just a few slices of green peppers. For sure it's better than it looks. It's closed Tuesdays. Although not our top go to for Chinese, only because a few of their recipes aren't to our preferences, we still won't turn down an opportunity to get some of their yummy dishes. I'm not sure what happened with Dragon Palace over the years, but they went downhill fast. The other poor reviews on here are not lying. Previously, we'd come here for carry out without issues. Today, we ordered online and picked up in person. Came home with the food, all to find out they didn't put our rice in with the order. On top of that, there's an added fee for ordering online, despite paying cash in person. We were hoping the poor reviews about the blandness of the food were an exaggeration, but it is not. No flavor or spice in anything that was ordered, on top of having to make our own rice at home. After calling the restaurant, no help was offered other than an "I'm sorry." We'll be finding a different restaurant for Chinese food from now on. read more

My family and I moved to Tinley Park a few years ago and we were looking for a nice Chinese restaurant in the area and we found dragon Palace in Tinley Park. They were the best in town, my family loves their foods. We ordered general taos chicken, hunan supreme, red hot dragon and Mongolian beef and the chicken wings. We also ordered the egg foo Yung special $10, you can't beat that! Friendly server and clean environment. They also have slots for you to entertain after your meal. Just no good no good no good anymore. Either it's all big uncut chunks of raw green bell pepper or it's tons of white rice and a few spoons of Mongolian beef or entre. It's been awhile since we ordered from here, but used to eat here quite often before Covid. They worked well w/ a bit of a difficult order due to food allergies. We were quite happy w/ how our food tasted. They even took the time to pack the food so it wouldn't fall over in the bag. Appreciate this courtesy. We stopped in due to the good reviews here on Yelp. Being so close we wondered how we missed a good chinese restaurant! For our first time we enjoyed the visit. We had Crab Rangoon, curry chicken meal, and the general Tao's chicken meal. The two meals had really good portions and flavor. The curry chicken meal came with white rice and the general Tao's chicken came with an egg roll and pork fried rice. The service was great and the waiter was very respectful. There wasn't much business when we went in and we were hesitant if the experience would be good. But it seems like a nice family run restaurant that has seen much success. Will we be back? Totally disappointed! The egg rolls were hard... really hard, I needed to open it up and eat the insides which was mushy. The shrimp with pea pods and water chestnuts was good but I didn't expect the carrot's and onions (this was a first for me), Mongolian beef completely dry with very little onions and no spice(heat) bland, bland, bland. The orange chicken was store bought chicken nuggets so over cooked I couldn't bite through it and it's sauce was flavorless, completely dull and bland... you would think the sauce would have softened up the chicken "pebbles " but it didn't. The soy sauce couldn't help this or the Mongolian beef dish. The pineapple fried rice was white, boring to look at and taste was uneventful, the Dragon Palace could have done much better in presentation, quality and taste. My last visit was 7 years ago and it was definitely much better. I've noticed since Covid-19 that a lot of the restaurants & the take outs places, that their quality of food and service is poor yet they've increased their prices. Wow. I'm totally confused by the bad reviews this place has gotten! I stopped in to get some take-out to take back to my hotel room the other day. I couldn't choose between the shrimp with broccoli or something spicy, and since the prices are so incredibly cheap, I went with both- I got the szechuan vegetables to pair with the shrimp. The employees were very nice to me, greeted me immediately when I came in, and the girl at the counter was patient with me while I was deciding. My order came out very quickly. (I didn't find the employees rude at all as some reviewers have said, although two girls were speaking a language to each other that I didn't understand. I know some people find that rude. I do not). When I got back to my hotel room, I found that everything was still hot and yummy. The sauce for the shrimp and broccoli wasn't overly flavorful (better bland than too salty, I say!) so I ended up mixing it in with the szechuan veggies and it was a yummy, yummy meal. BACKGROUND My family ordered from this place throughout my childhood, and I still make a point to order from this place when I'm in the area. I've probably ordered from this place over a hundred times throughout my life. As far as I understand, this place was established by Chinese immigrants and is still run by the same family. FOOD & VALUE The menu is huge and covers a wide variety of tastes, and you can comfortably feed a family for under $20. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite: the sauce is prepared with large chunks of fresh tomatoes, green bell peppers, and pineapples, and the chicken is usually crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I have yet to find a better egg roll in this class of restaurants. They serve fresh, hot tea with every dine in order in the same way that every table is served with bread at a greasy spoon style of restaurant. Their fried rice dishes have larger amounts of meat included than most other Chinese restaurants from which I have ordered. Of course, expect a fortune cookie at the end of your meal! If you are looking for fine dining, you will be disappointed as this is a Chinese take-out style of restaurant. Expect to have two large meals for under $10 when ordering, especially when eating lunch specials. SERVICE The servers are attentive to their tables, and food is prepared in about 10 minutes for dine-in customers. Some days are busier than others for take-out, so expect anywhere between 15-45 minutes for your order to be ready. I average about 20 minutes for pick-up. As with any restaurant, once in a while an order might not come out the way it should be. They are apologetic and quick to fix your order. ATMOSPHERE Immediately after entering the restaurant, you will find a large fish tank filled with exotic fish. A bar equipped with some Asian and domestic drafts is available if you would like to have a beer while waiting to get your order. Half of the restaurant feels like a Chinese take-out area with Chinese decor. The other half of the restaurant is mainly for dine-in seating. The walls are decorated with ethnic paintings and trim. A television is mounted in one of the corners. Overall, the atmosphere is clean and feels like a Chinese restaurant. I don't understand all the bad reviews this place is getting, especially the comment on the staff being rude - I think everyone that has helped me has been qutie friendly.
