Every time I pass by. I've Been wanting to try this restaurant out for a while and I finally got a chance to check them out. I tried the Chicken w/ Garlic sauce lunch special, with an egg roll added to my order. The choices of fried rice that come with the lunch specials are pork fried rice or substitute for white rice. You have to request for chicken or shrimp fried rice. Chicken fried rice is $1.00 extra and Shrimp fried rice is $1.50 extra. The lunch special also comes with the choice of Egg Drop Soup, Wonton Soup, or Hot & Sour Soup. In my opinion the chicken w/ Garlic sauce lunch special was bland, and the portion was small. I had to add 2 soy sauce packets to get it to my liking. Also In my opinion the egg roll was very bland, lacking flavor as well. The Hot & Sour soup was very good with great flavor. I will Definitely get the Hot & Sour soup on days I'm on a budget. But for the most part, there portions are small for the price they charge. And a beverage is not included. This is the nastiest Chinese food I have ever eaten. They get business and stay in business because there are no other Chinese food restaurants in the area. I have never, ever, never, ever had a flat egg foo young patty. Where are the bean sprouts? You can see the vegetables but can't taste them. The gravy was thin as heck- poured like water. Always a great experience! The food is good, with good sized portions and the employees are always kind and friendly. The chicken with garlic sauce is good, and the fried dumplings are always tasty. The Egg Foo young patties were loose and runny, greasy; skimpy on the ingredients, only 2 shrimps per patty, and it was just basically a scrambled egg! The rice was overcooked and sticky. The egg rolls were small, dried out, flavorless, and dry. I couldn't even identify what ingredients when in there. Then on top of that I got a tummy ache directly after eating it. This is our "weekly" chinese place. We mostly eat in their nice dining room but sometimes we order carry out. It is really good, cheap chinese food. It is incredible how much food they give you for under $10. We've never been unhappy. Everyone who works there speaks Chinese (I assume anyway), and the children of the family who own it often can be seen playing or being kept busy in the dining room. For dining room ambience, this is the best Chinese restaurant in Homewood. And it is a short walk from several excellent bars and the whole downtown area. read more

Ordered take away this evening. Asked for NO corn (hate them) and NO broccoli (not my favorite veg) in my shrimp dish. Half the container was broccoli with significant corns. I would have been happy with a lot o' carrots and onions. My husband thinks it's good Chinese. I think it's mediocre. But, it's close to the house, therefore convenient. Bland and boring but perhaps leaving the orders up to my Irish brother in law led us down that road once again... Chinese cuisine that left us with full bellys and no cravings for our leftovers. The best part of the order was the texture of the Lo Mein noodles and tasty tasty fortune cookies... the bland chewy beef with Chinese vegetables made me sleepy and searching for some salt. I just don't get it... there are Billions of Chinese enjoying this food everyday but I just can't get it right at these locals spots. The hot and sour soup, wonton soup and eggrolls were good. The chicken with mixed vegetables was not great but edible. The chicken fried rice is so bland, there is almost no flavor to it at all. The kung pao chicken is disgusting. Also very bland. Very little ""chicken" and the chicken that is in there has no meat, its all fat. Which is hard for me to comprehend, I was questioning if it was even chicken I kept eating but there is nothing else in it that would be chicken. It has almost a very squishy tofu consistency to it. This USE to be my favorite Chinese restaurant. Over the years their food and service has decline. Tonight will be last night I'll be visiting Eat Rice. Tonight we dined in and the server was just plain rude. He didn't greet us. He dropped the menu and continue to other tables. now when I say drop, I mean drop the menus and left. Ok, I let that past. Came back took our drink orders and served us our drinks and just like the menus he dropped the straws. Now I'm just irritated. When he came back to take our order, he asked if we were ready and before I could answer he walked away. WTF?! Came back a few minutes later and took our order. We gave him the numbers on the menu like we've done past and he got upset and said, no what is the name. At this point I wanted to walk out but the kids were hungry and it was 8:30 p.m. Brought our food out but my husbands. Our fried rice had chucks of onions. Onions cut up for a stew, it wasn't even cooked. It was Like they added ingredient together to already made fried rice. My son had chicken tenders in his chicken fried. He didn't refill our water we had to ask. My children and I was half way through with our meal and my husband still didn't receive his meal. When we told the server to cancel his order he said, it was coming now. I told him no and cancel the order he told me to take it to go. I had to get loud and tell him no. Asked for to go boxes and brought us one small box for two separate meals. Writing this review has made me hate this restaurant. Just because I had to relive to experience. read more
