I was a little skeptical of trying this place after reading some of the old reviews. I ordered the orange chicken dinner. I will say this orange chicken was fantastic. Probably some of the best orange chicken I've ever had. It also came with rice and an egg roll, which were both good. I ordered a 6 pack of crab Rangoon, which I liked a lot. My fiancé had the sweet and sour chicken dinner, he did like his, but he said he preferred my orange chicken. The sauce on his chicken was like a red color, it was a little weird. read more

I've used this place a couple of times monthly for ten years and it has declined the food and quality are hit and miss. I almost stopped patronizing them this year and rarely ordered because they close @ 9:30 P.M. On 9-6-24 I ordered and the food was badly scorched the owner's son was working wearing a dirty greasy white undershirt. He placed the order by phone and never asked for a name upon pick up. There was an older middle aged woman who took my order. She was rude and very inpatient while taking my order. After taking my order, she said something in her native language as she walked away from the register. She definitely lacked customer service skills. Some people need to learn to have patience when working with the public. You never know, what other people's are going through. I had stopped ordering from here several years ago after finding copper in my food, like the scrubbers they use to clean the woks. A friend said they had gotten better, so decided to give them another shot. Big mistake! While I didn't find any foreign objects, I didn't find any flavor or quality either. The fried rice was garbage, literally rice and bean sprouts fried in soy sauce, nothing else. The governor's chicken was dry and tasted like some popcorn chicken you'd buy in the frozen section covered in some horrible sauce. After a few bites I just threw it out, which is probably a good thing because I got cramps and other stomach issues shortly thereafter. At one time I was a frequent visitor to Rice Garden and was familiar with the family that owned it, so I was surprised that I didn't recognize any of the faces on my last visit. When I inquired I was told that the business has been under new ownership for the past two years. My first impression of the shrimp egg foo yung was that it was undercooked because it lacked the slightly browned exterior that I'm accustomed to. Unfortunately, it didn't taste any better than it looked. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't anything that I would order again from them. However, I'm not one to waste food so I decided to make the most of it. What a mistake that was... less than an hour later I had severe stomach cramps and spent over half an hour in the bathroom. I had some ginger ale and fell asleep. Next morning, it was the same thing. I would NEVER EVER EVER eat there again. I am a very calm person and can count on my hand the amount of times that i speak about the bad when i experience less than perfect service. The way that i was spoken to on the phone when i called to place an order for delivery is obsurd. I understand there may be a language barrier but the way the woman working the phone spoke to me was ridiculous. I will not be ordering from here going forward and will make sure that as much as i can to influence those around me to do the same. At the end of the day, you provide a service and that is fast food, but you cant speak to customers anyway and expect them to sit back and accept it. Not too many restaurants in the South Suburbs deliver and if they do the delivery charge is 3-5 dollars, Rice Garden's delivery charge is $1.95. The prices are very reasonable, I spent $24 on a large Shrimp Friend Rice, Orange Sesame Chicken (regular), Three Egg Rolls, and a regular size Egg Foo Young. The price was definitely worth it, the food was hot and delicious and it didn't take long for them to deliver. I have already recommend Rice Garden to a few friends and I couldn't wait to put my review on Yelp because I enjoyed my meal so much. Ever since Golden Buddha closed (i could walk there in under 60 seconds), we have been getting our Chinese from Rice Garden. I can't recall ever getting anything that I wouldn't order again. I love that they deliver and they are super fast! The food is plentiful and we always have lovely leftovers! I have not experienced the egg roll "grease stick" as one other reviewer called it. I get an egg roll every time and they are always crispy and good. Orange Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice and the BBQ Pork Appetizer are our favorites!
