This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver. It's one of those places that you likely have driven past a bunch of times before noticing it's there, then realize it is and want to try it, but don't until quite awhile later. And then you are hooked and keep going back again and again and again. The menu is incredible. All of it that I've tried, and I've tried quite a few things. They have these spring roll things with a spicy peanut sauce that are just like heaven. I'd love to tell you some of the other things, but I don't know the names without looking or asking. The staff is friendly, and if you accidentally leave your cell phone there overnight and are freaking out the next day because you are waiting for an important call, they will gladly help you find it and give it back to you with a smile (not that I'd ever do something silly like that). Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Oh, and the prices? If you read my reviews, you know that I can be kind of cheap, and I've declared this place not only reasonable, but almost (not quite) a bargain considering how yummy it is. I probably NEVER would have even thought to drop in for lunch, but I was desperately hungry after an extended wait for my car's oil change at Dick Hannah's Honda across the street. In the midst of my hunger, I stumbled on to this skinny strip mall, and figured that the hoards of people in the restaurant was a good sign. Considering my only other choice was Arby's or Wendy's, I figured I had nothing to lose. So here is that moral of the story section: never judge a book by its cover. I walked in to a rather basic interior, but a bustling environment with friendly staff. They seated me immediately, and I placed my order after viewing the Lunch Menu. I couldn't believe the prices! Only $6.95 for a bowl of rice noodle wonton soup bigger than the size of my face?! Cám n! The food was excellent, and I would highly recommend the Salad Rolls from the appetizer menu. Best Vietnamese food in Vancouver. This is the Vietnamese place where Vietnamese people eat. It's a well-hid family owned restaurant and a must-visit. Saigon is always clean and the food is very consistent. Today I got salad rolls which are truly awesome here. I recommend getting fish sauce to dip them in but the peanut sauce works too. I also recommend the bbq pork and shrimp on vermicelli noodles. That's my fave. I know the soups are also great. The servers have some language barrier but they are nice and smiley. They take care of you and you will be glad you gave this place a shot. I highly recommend it. 5stars for the food, 4stars overall. read more

Pho! This is the place to go in the 'Couve. The pho is traditional and tasty. The other dishes are just as yummy. The chicken and broccoli is savory. The wonton soup has crispy garlic on top that is the perfect garnish. There are lots of tables and they can easily accommodate a large group. The service is fast. You can get in and out of here for lunch with no worries of being late. The staff is friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable. This restaurant is in a strip mall and there is ample parking. Been coming here for years! Always very solid, affordable Vietnamese. The vermicelli noodle bowls as well as the pho and vermicelli soups are excellent, and portions are huge. Service is fast and friendly, and food never takes longer than 5 minutes to arrive after ordering. This is hands down the worst pad thai I've ever had. I don't understand why the noodles were pink, somehow...? There was no flavor other than grease. The chicken was also pink from some sauce, I assume, and in these big chunks--not like the small pieces of at other Thai restaurants. Very generous portion, but just gross. I've tried the spicy pho and the wonton noodle soups. Both are very well prepared and richly satisfying! I especially like that completely different broths are used for beef pho and the other soups. Some places use just one broth and change the meat/veggies but not here. The service is not that friendly but it is efficient and fast. I almost wanted to try the soup but from reading past reviews, one yelper said that they were actually using beef broth for vegetarian soup so I didn't bother to try to be on the safe side. Upon entering any restaurant, one would expect a friendly greeting. If you are expecting that here, don't. I don't believe I saw a smile on the faces of any of the staff during the duration of our lunch. I love salad rolls. The salad rolls here are 5 star plus! I have been coming back here for over 10 years because their salad rolls are the best in the Portland area!! I have tried salad rolls everywhere, none compare. I'm not sure why their salad rolls are so good. The only reason I cam imagine is the proportions of the ingredients are perfect. The rest of the menu is good too. Many of the dishes are heavy to a peanut flavor. If you have questions ask as they are very helpful in describing the dishes in detail. I went here based on the reviews and I'm sadly disappointed. Admittedly, I am an Asian food snob and I'll go for great food over great service any day. The place was clean which is a plus. The service was curt with very few words spoken which was fine with me though at least 1 smile from the wait staff would have been nice, even if it was a forced smile. It would have made my experience slightly better. Their salad rolls are the ONLY ones I've ever had that did not have the basil in it... big fail! The peanut sauce was very thin and lacked flavor though the meat the salad roll in it was a different twist, it wasn't enough for me recommend them. I had their large beef ball Pho and the broth was weak, the meatballs were cut in thirds which means they are cutting corners to make more of a profit. With soup, it's all about the broth... My dad took me here for lunch today, and as far as I know this is the first time I've ever had pho. My dad suggested the #20 for me, in a large size. He got the same, in a regular. We also had a regular sized order of salad rolls. The salad rolls were nice and fresh, so fresh the wraps stuck to each other when we tried to grab them. I thought it would have been nice had they come sliced in half, or if they don't cut them, to seal one end of the wrap so nothing falls out, but that's just me being picky. I thought the peanut dipping sauce was a bit bland, however, lacking the peanut flavor I love with salad rolls. The pho arrived, and when they put the big bowl in front of my dad, I wondered what I was in for. Thankfully, that was actually my meal. I was kind of surprised, that for only fifty extra cents my portion was nearly half again as much as my dad's. After dressing with Thai basil, cilantro, lime juice, bean sprouts, and Sriracha, I dug in. Holy wow, the flavor was amazing. I now know why my friends rave about pho so much! The thin rice noodles were nice and tender, and absorbed flavor from the broth. The different pieces of meat were tender and flavorful. I found a few pieces of cartilage and gristle, but that just means this is not stock from a can. I honestly can't believe I ate the whole thing! I'm going to make this place a regular addition to my Asian cuisine rotation. They've earned my business, and I can't wait to find out what more they have to offer on the dinner menu! read more

Cons: In the Top 5 worst food service experiences that I've ever had. The older man rushed us, and hard rolled his eyes at me when I ordered the salad roll as a starter. My friend ordered Chicken Curry SOUP and he brought her peanut curry. If he would have checked back just once the mistake could have been taken care of. Wait. Wait. Wait. Then get your own check and ask for boxes for the food we didn't actually order. Paid. Left. And probably won't return. I had high hopes for this place because my boyfriend would not stop raving about their food. Finally decided to give it a try and was pretty disappointed. The men working were kind of rude and didn't talk much. We ordered yellow coconut curry with tofu, chicken chow mein, and calamari. The calamari was delicious! The curry wasn't terrible, but I've definitely had better, the sauce was a little too thick for my liking. The chow mein.... lets just say I'd rather eat chow mein from Panda Express than ever eat it here again. The best way to describe the noodles (which is the 'mein' part of the chow) would be a birds nest made out of dry hay. Super thin noodles with no flavor. The chicken tasted boiled, which I'm personally not a fan of because it tastes like I was eating a weird rubber ball. The sauce was really slippery and weird, the entire dish was bland and half of the veggies were way too over cooked. I moved here from Beaverton and I have still yet to find a good curry place. I work nearby but had never eaten there but my coworkers have on numerous occasions. I had the salt and pepper shrimp. It was outstanding. Spicy, tastey and fresh.
