Alright, a friend of mine brought me here bragging about "the best fried rice around" and I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. The fried rice was sticky, salty and sweet. The calamari appetizer blew me away and the salad rolls were the biggest I've been served. A little hole in the wall turned out to be somewhere I'll visit regularly. read more

This review is seriously 20 years overdue. This place is always packed for lunch and dinner, so it's no wonder that it's still in business after all these years. I've been coming here since I can remember as a kid, and the pho has been consistently delicious and satisfying. We come here at least once a month. While I wish the pho was still $5 a bowl, such is life with inflation. At $7.50 for a small bowl, it is still worth the taste and portion. The spring rolls and salad rolls are also delicious, and I highly recommend the House Fried Rice and Vietnamese Coffee. I would stay away from the Thai menu, though. After all, it is a Vietnamese restaurant. And yes, the service is at a bare minimum, but personally, I appreciate the no-fuss service and like to enjoy my food in peace and quiet. read more

This place is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver area. I started going here since they started the restaurant. The pho are very satisfying and the rest of the menu are well balanced. The price are good and portions of the food are good too. The only thing I don't like is the service. The staffs are either not care if the customer needed any service like more water, napkins, or soda (refill). You have to find them to ask for those things. But other than that, this place is wort to try. read more

We discovered this pho place not long ago and we have been coming there ever since. The pho soup comes in huge portions at great prices. The broth is full of flavor and the different types of beef go great with it. The side of veggies is always a good mix. We also enjoy the fresh rolls wrapped with rice paper with beef or shrimp. My friend ordered me a pork chop to go and it was tasty and it was enough for me to keep coming back. The portions were big, enough to make you full for the whole day (at least for a petite person like me.) The second time I came here with my friends, we still ordered pork chops to go. But the 3rd time, we decided to dine in. We ordered 4 pork chops and egg rolls. I called over the phone 15 minutes before we got to the place so we don't have to wait for our food but the waiter who answered got annoyed when I said it wasn't a "to go" order, he exclaimed "you make my life difficult." I forgot what I replied, I thought he was just kidding. But when we got there, the waiter who answered the phone looked like he hates his job. He looked very serious and didn't even smile. I thought it was just me but I've read the reviews and they said the same thing. So I still gave 5 star rating because the food was satisfying and actually although the waiter looked very serious, he provided the service we needed. And although he's rather reserved, he tried to make a joke when he delivered the last glass of water and he kinda reminded me of the male protagonist named Zhen Shui from one of my favorite Chinese Dramas "Love 020", so now I'm re-watching it, brought back some good memories. To the server, you can increase your customer's satisfaction if you weren't so obvious that you didn't love your job. read more

Place to go for some good Pho. It's usually pretty busy around lunch and dinner. Service is always good, nothing great but they are fast and keep your water filled. I've had many different types of Pho here and haven't had anything bad. For the price they quantity of meat is better than most I've tried in the area. Asked for extra meat one time and they charged me $1.00 extra but gave me so much meat. read more

I've been to many Pho places over the years, and I have to say this one is pretty good! Both the egg rolls and spring rolls were good, not spectacular, but their peanut sauce was excellent. The pho soup was a little bland at first, but if you add some of the condiments they provide on the table, then the soup tastes fine. The meatballs were good, and plump. My friend got the tasty Thai here and it was great. Excellent portion! Overall, this is a simple place, that serves pretty good Vietnamese and Thai food! read more

I've been patronizing Saigon just about from the time they opened up. Right from the beginning I found the owner and staff very courteous and professional. I've ordered quite a cross section of their offerings, vermicelli dishes, soups, salads, pad thai and various appetizers. They've never disappointed. I think any good pho dish is one in which the flavors of the ingredients evolve and meld together the further down the bowl you get. A good pho dish is one in which each bite tastes better than the last. Saigon is where I go in Vancouver for good pho. Every time I go, I leave happy. Their other dishes have always been good, but I come here for the pho. The service has always been good here as well. The interior of the restaurant isn't the nicest...it feels sort of bland inside and not the most comfortable place. Did not like very much. I got the potstickers as an appetizer and they were very doughy and tasted pasty. They were also very bland without the dipping sauce. I also didn't like the dipping sauce but it was very reminiscent of soy sauce and that isn't my favorite either. My brother, on the other hand, loved the potsticker dipping sauce. I got the eye of round steak pho as my main course.. #34 I think. It was also very bland and I had to add chili oil and salt. Still, it didn't have good flavor. Just isn't what I'm used to from vietnamese restaurants in Portland. My brother had gotten the pho that had the flank and eye of round steak. I noticed that there was a lot of fat on the flank and that there were pieces of cartilage in the soup as well, maybe tendon? We had also ordered two thai iced teas and the servers forgot about them --wouldn't blame them though, as it was a busy night. However, the drink was way too sweet and honestly felt a little slimy. Not what I want from my drink. Most of the servers were super nice and well-deserving of their tips. Prices are fair, but I would not return due to the lackluster food. read more

I requested "#20 please". She came out with a 23 and argued its what I ordered. I can see the misunderstanding however she brought out a bowl of meat and just tossed it in the bowl. No apologies. No explanation. Okay. I'm hungry so I want to eat. Food sucked. So combine the communication snafu, no apologies and below average food I will not be back. This is my favorite restaurant in Vancouver hands down. I've been coming here since I was 7, I'm now 32. It's family owned and the owner is always super nice. Their food is delicious, I try a few new things here and there but I usually get my favorites and it never disappoints. Their salad rolls are the best, their peanut sauce is my favorite. I could eat here everyday if I could. The price is also very reasonable, and the service is great. read more

Been coming to this restaurant since it opened many years ago. Please don't ever dine here without ordering the salad rolls. Another favorite of ours (besides the pho) is the salad with shrimp and squid. Yummy. We often order the Chow Fun and are never disappointed. Once I asked where I could find a package of shrimp chips in Vancouver. (they were served with the salad) Instead of suggesting an Asian store, they gave me a package! What a gesture. It's situations like this and the great food that make us dine here often. You can always count on a good meal that is reasonably priced at the Saigon. It is a family run business and believe me they work very hard! I am all for supporting businesses like this. They all travel back to Vietnam in the summer when they can. So have a backup restaurant if you find them closed. They are closed Sundays as well. Our only complaint is that they have had FoxNews on the TV. That, I can't support. read more

Fri 2/24/12 3pm: Saigon Restaurant/Vancouver, WA/: Thanks to Oishi Sushi for turning us away, Saigon Restaurant showed up on our GSP. Surprisingly at 3pm, there were a constant flow of clienteles and half full. They also have a full 8 pages menu. We're always skeptical of those who would cook anything, they even have Thai's menu. We asked an older gentleman/waiter, perhaps the owner, what's the specialty here, what's served the most? His response was all are good, may be not the best, but will taste good. We were contemplating the family dinner or the listed specialties, but looked around, it seemed Pho is more popular and a couple grilled rice dishes went by. We ordered Pho special, though we were not drawn to it by its aroma like the authentic Pho. It took a while for the order to come out; Pho's not usually taken long, perhaps the extra Lotus salad we ordered. Yum the Pho, but its broth was not as hot, Pho needs broth that just bubbles from the pot, a bit salty, skimpy herb. Well, we were hungry. The large deep bowl sure silent the grumbles. Oh, the Lotus salad was superb, fresh and the sauce was not too sweet, just right, it came with a bowl of rice. We're stuff. We're used to the VN service, not all refill water nor check on you, minus the no smile service. No matter, we came, pleased, 10% tip, now we leave. We'd return when nearby. 3 stars for the food. read more

Service was not good, gave us water but never asked if we wanted to order any drinks. Server looked like he was in a bad mood, permanent scowl on his face even with other tables. I ordered the crispy chicken with sweet & sour sauce was listed as one of the chef specialties. The sauce was fine came with white rice but the chicken was basically fried grissly chicken fat. If you are a Pho lover, try Mi Hanh Tanh. It is an egg noodle, in chicken broth, with wontons and vegetables. My wife LOVES it! It seems that this place is more of a Vietnamese restaurant, not the best for Thai food. We like the service here. read more

I'm an egg drop soup fanatic. I stopped in here the other day on a whim and asked if they had any. Where has this place been? This was the best egg drop soup I have ever had. This soup comes loaded with vegetables and a huge side of rice. The service is fast and the owner and staff are very polite. Definitely one of my family's favorite Vietnamese restaurants ! We come here all the time - almost on a regular basis lol. I love the fresh lumpia (salad rolls) and their fried lumpia. My family and I do prefer they don't cut our lumpia but that's okay . Their soups are delish & one of my favs is the fried noodles combo. It's Amazing ! I definitely recommend the combination soup, the fried noodles combo & the beef broccoli. The service is okay, but because we are almost like regulars it's not a big deal for us. I don't like it when servers keep coming up to me when I'm eating anyways. When you call them they come but besides refilling drinks, they pretty much let you be until you say other wise. The restaurant definitely has a diverse set of customers. They always have a good group of customers, it's never "dead". I haven't felt a need to try any other Vietnamese restaurants, I'm veryy satisfied with the service and good & they also have a Thai menu ! I have yet to try it but when I do I will update ! This place is my secret vancouver Pho Jam. I used to work nearby and would come here weekly. This is where my true Pho obsesson began. One of my co-workers was Vietnamese and he always swore by this place. Major disappointment. We had Salad Rolls that were "ok" but the wrapper seemed stale and very chewy and elastic. The Pad Thai was mediocre although the Beef Curry was superb. The reason I will not return or recommend this place was the service. It took 15 minutes to place our order and we were the ONLY diners in the place! Then my order came about 5-7 minutes before my husbands and when the orders were delivered it was placed on the edge of the table like he didn't know who ordered what. The server seemed put out by us. He never spoke above a whisper and never smiled or seemed even mildly interested in actually delivering service. My husbands curry had no spoon to serve it, so we had to go ask for a spoon because the server was too busy playing on his phone to look up to see if the only couple in the place needed anything. The restroom was dirty and disgusting. We were never asked if we needed to-go boxes and again ended up going to the counter to ask for them ourselves and were eventually checked out by an older man who seemed utterly miserable. I really don't like feeling like I am "bothering" the wait staff at a restaurant. read more

Growing up my family and I have always gone here. I love the atmosphere. There food is one of the best that we have tried and trust me we have tried a lot of different places but Saigon has always been our all time favorite. We usually order their salt and pepper shrimp or squid and their shrimp fried rice. Their Pho is good if you love Pho. It is a very authentic place whatever you order will be full of flavor. Great food but dont expect to drink tea, been here a few times always same excuse, we have to brew the tea we ran out, so had to drink water. They cant afford a tea brewer have to worry about the food quality. read more
